Lockport, Ill. - After going 11-2 over the weekend, the first-ranked Nebraska bowling team finished in third place, tallying a 14,589 total pinfall with a 208.4 average.

The Cornhuskers matched up with No. 2 Vanderbilt in its first round best-of-seven baker match, with a chance to still move up as high as third place. The last time the two teams met, the then nation-leading Commodores edged the Huskers 1,087-1,076 in a traditional match at the Prairie View A&amp;M Invite. The Big Red started with Haley Swindle, Kayla Starr, Kayla Verstraete, Anna Callan and Jillian Martin. The Huskers topped the Commodores in game one, 208-201, despite Vanderbilt’s late four strike spurt. The Cornhuskers rolled a 182 in game two, topping Vanderbilt’s 167 as the Commodores recorded only one strike. Vanderbilt bounced back in the third, rolling a 209 to top Nebraska’s 186, bringing the match to 2-1 in favor of NU. In game four, the Big Red tallied eight strikes and scored a 255 to take a 3-1 lead. In the fifth, the Huskers bowled a 224 including five strikes in a row, but were topped by the Commodores, 235-224. The Cornhuskers were again defeated in game six, 200-171, as Vanderbilt forced a game seven. In the final game, Nebraska recorded five strikes, with two coming from Callan, as the Huskers topped Vanderbilt, 214-161, and defeated Vanderbilt.

With a chance to go to the third-place match, the Huskers played No. 5 Youngstown State. The Big Red started off hot in game one with three strikes and hit another four later in the match to take down the Penguins, 239-215. In game two, the Cornhuskers put together a five strike run to put them over Youngstown State, 213-189, to go up 2-0. In the third, NU rolled a 200 and were topped by Youngstown State’s 221. The Penguins got hot in the fourth, hitting eight consecutive strikes to score a 267, bringing the match to an even 2-2. In the fifth, the Huskers started with eight strikes, as Martin recorded her eighth consecutive strikes, to score a 278, the team’s highest this tournament, taking down the Penguins once again. In the sixth, the Cornhuskers bowled a 210 to take down Youngstown State, 3-1.

In the match for third, Nebraska faced No. 7 Wichita State. In the first, the Cornhuskers took down the Shockers, 175-172, off of a Martin spare in the 10th. In game two, Wichita State hit six consecutive strikes, taking down the Huskers, 253-195. The Big Red recorded 11 strikes to end game three, topping Wichita State, 278-191, to take a 2-1 lead. In game four, Martin recorded her eighth straight strike, her second time in two matches, as NU topped the Shockers again, 212-166. Wichita State ended game five on a five strike run, leading them over Nebraska, 214-187, bringing the match to a 3-2 advantage for NU. The Huskers struggled in game six, rolling a 157, and were topped by Wichita State, 190-157, forcing a game seven. In game seven, the Cornhuskers started with five strikes, finishing with nine total as the Big Red topped the Shockers, 234-203, to claim third place.

Four Huskers finished in the top 25 for individual performances. Verstraete was seventh overall with a total pinfall of 1,089 and a 217.8 average. Starr was in eighth with a total pinfall of 1,088 and average of 217.6. Callan finished at 10th with a total pinfall of 1,076 and a 215.2 average. Swindle was 23rd with a total pinfall of 1,040 and average of 208.

The Huskers return to action Feb. 14-16, as the Big Red travel to Jonesboro, Ark., for the Mid-Winter Invitational, hosted by No. 4 Arkansas State.

Huskers finish Third at Storm Flyer Classic

The Nebraska rifle team finished fifth at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships on Sunday with an aggregate score of 4,699. The Big Red shot a 2,369 in the air rifle.

No. 2 Alaska-Fairbanks took first place with a score of 4,758. No. 6 Ole Miss (4,746) took second, No. 5 TCU (4,732) placed third, and No. 7 Air Force (4,706) grabbed fourth place. No. 9 NU (fifth, 4,699), No. 12 Ohio State (sixth, 4,694), and No. 16 UTEP (seventh, 4,670) rounded out the seven-team field.&nbsp;

“It was a tough weekend in a tough conference, and we fell short of where we wanted to be as a team,” said Head Coach Richard Clark. “We had a couple of great individual performances from Emma in air riflem making the top 8 final, and Alivia in both guns which was great to see and fun to watch. Over the next two weeks, we need to get back to doing us and focusing on doing the little things right to be ready for qualifiers at OSU.”&nbsp;

Junior Emma Rhode led the team in the air rifle with a mark of 597. Her preliminary score qualified her for finals, and she placed sixth overall. Freshman Alivia Perkins took 14th with a score of 595, followed by Camillla Johannessen in 28th with a mark of 591. Maddy Moyer (41st, 586) and Grace Corbett (49th, 573) rounded out the lineup for the Huskers in the air rifle.&nbsp;

The Big Red will get a weekend off before heading to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State in the NCAA-qualifying match on Feb. 22. The match is slated to begin at 9 a.m. (central).

Huskers finish in Fifth at PRC Championships

Lincoln, Neb. –&nbsp;Behind a double-double from&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/brice-williams">Brice Williams</a>, Nebraska won its fourth straight with a 79-71 win over Ohio State Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Huskers (16-8, 6-7 Big Ten) overcome an eight-point second-half deficit, out-scoring Ohio State, 45-32 in the final 20 minutes.

Williams led three Huskers in double figures with 24 points and a season-high 10 rebounds, as he posted his first double-double of the season and sixth of his career.&nbsp; &nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/juwan-gary">Juwan Gary</a>&nbsp;(19) and&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/berke-buyuktuncel">Berke Büyüktuncel</a>&nbsp;(15) also finished in double figures, as Nebraska shot 51.9 percent from the field and had 15 assists to just 10 turnovers.

Gary scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half after sitting most of the first half with foul trouble, while Büyüktuncel hit a trio of 3-pointers grabbed six boards and dished out three assists in his best performance of the season.

Nebraska trailed 42-34 in the opening minutes of the second half before the Huskers responded with an 8-0 run to get the Pinnacle Bank Arena crowd on their feet. Gary scored NU’s first five points before Büyüktuncel’s 3-pointer knotted the score at 42-all with just over 17 minutes left.

The Huskers would take control with an 11-0 run, turning a 48-44 deficit into a 55-48 lead on Williams’ 3-point play, the last of five straight points by the senior. The run was sparked by a pair of hustle plays, a putback from&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/connor-essegian">Connor Essegian</a>&nbsp;to tie the game before&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/andrew-morgan">Andrew Morgan</a>’s diving steal and eventual basket gave NU a 52-50 lead it would not relinquish.

Ohio State (14-10, 6-7 Big Ten) would come right back, using an 8-2 run of their own to pull within 58-56 after 3-pointers from Micah Parrish and John Mobley Jr with 6:25 remaining.

Leading 62-60, a 3-pointer from&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/rollie-worster">Rollie Worster</a>&nbsp;off a timeout, and a Williams jumper on the next possession extended the Husker lead to seven, at 67-60, with 2:28 left. From there, the Huskers held on, going 6-of-6 from the line and using a pair of Gary dunks off the press to stretch the lead to 11 before closing out the eight-point win.

Nebraska went 18-of-21 from the foul line, including 15-of-17 in the second half.

Parish led Ohio State with 30 points, including five 3-pointers, while Mobley Jr. added 21, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. NU limited Brice Thronton to just nine points in 39 minutes after he had 31 points in OSU’s comeback against Maryland on Thursday. ‘

In the first half Nebraska trailed 10-8 before battling back with a 13-2 spurt to build a 21-12 lead after a Williams basketball at the 12:23 mark. Williams had six of his 13 first-half points in the run.

The Buckeyes carried behind Parrish, who scored eight straight OSU points, including a 3-point play that pulled OSU to within 25-20. Nebraska eventually led 27-20, but OSU used a 7-0 spurt to take a 32-29 lead on a Mobley jumper. NU, which had four players pick up a pair of first half fouls, stayed close by getting a major contribution from&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/braxton-meah">Braxton Meah</a>, as the senior scored all five of his points to pull NU within 36-34, with 2:36 left in the half.

Girls Wrestling Districts begin today

Lincoln&nbsp;- Alexis Markowski produced her eighth double-double of the season and 48th of her career with game highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds, but visiting Michigan used a huge second quarter to run to a 78-60 victory over the Nebraska women's basketball team at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday night.

With the loss, Nebraska slipped to 16-7 overall and 7-5 in the Big Ten, while Michigan improved to 16-7 and 7-5 in the league.

Markowski was a bright spot for the Huskers, while freshman Britt Prince added 10 points, three rebounds and three assists. Jessica Petrie pitched in six points, while Callin Hake and Kendall Coley each contributed five points for the Huskers. Kendall Moriarty, Logan Nissley and Petra Bozan all contributed four points in a sluggish offensive effort for the Big Red.

Greta Kampschroeder led three Wolverines in double figures with 16 points, including a career-high-tying five three-pointers. Jordan Hobbs added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Syla Swords contributed 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.

The difference in the game for Michigan came largely at the three-point line, where Michigan hit 9-of-21 from beyond the arc, while the Huskers hit just 3-of-15, accounting for the 18-point margin in the game.

The Huskers hit just 37.3 percent (22-59) overall from the floor and just 13-of-21 free throws (.619). The Huskers were 19-of-38 (.500) from inside the arc, while Michigan was 19-for-39. Both teams pulled down 38 rebounds on the night, while Michigan hit 13-of-18 free throws. The Wolverines also won the turnover battle, 17-13, including a lopsided 14-4 margin in the first half.

Michigan took control by erupting on an 18-0 run during a five-minute stretch spanning the first and second quarters to build a 42-21 halftime lead.

Nebraska struggled through its roughest half of the season, committing 14 turnovers and hitting just 8-of-28 (.286) first-half shots to fall behind the Wolverines. The Huskers, who trailed 15-14 with just 30 seconds left in the first half, got outscored 24-7 in the second quarter.

Markowski led the Big Red with 10 points and four rebounds in the half, but hit just 3-of-9 shots from the field, including one of Nebraska's two three-pointers. Prince managed six points on 3-of-9 shooting of her own, but the rest of the Huskers managed just five total points.

Swords led all scorers with 12 first-half points, including 10 in the final six minutes of the half. Hobbs added eight points and Te'Yala Delfosse scored the first six points of the second quarter to give the Wolverines their first double-digit lead. Michigan had eight different players score in the first half, as the Wolverines hit 16-of-33 shots (.485), including 4-of-9 threes.

Nebraska bolted out of the locker room to start the second half, using an 8-0 run to quickly cut the lead to 42-29 with 8:05 left in the third. After a Michigan timeout, Kampschroeder calmed things down with a three-pointer, but Markowski answered with a traditional three-point play. After an Olivia Olson bucket for Michigan, Petrie, Markowski and Moriarty combined for five straight points to trim the margin to 47-37 with 5:46 left in the quarter.

Nebraska could get no closer, and a Kampschroeder three ended the scoring in the period to send the Wolverines to the fourth with a 58-42 edge.

Markowski opened the fourth with a quick bucket, but Kampschroeder dashed Nebraska's comeback hopes with back-to-back threes over the next minute to put Michigan back up by 20 points at 64-44.

Nebraska returns to Big Ten home action on Monday, when the Huskers play host to Iowa. Tip-off between the Big Red and the Hawkeyes is set for 7 p.m. (CT), with tickets available at Huskers.com. Huskers Stumble to Wolverines

The No. 19 Nebraska softball team scored five two-out runs in the fifth inning en route to a 7-1 victory over the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers on Thursday night at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla.&nbsp;

<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/softball/roster/player/jordy-bahl">Jordyn Bahl</a> made her return for the Huskers and collected the win in the circle. The Papillion, Neb., native tossed a complete-game five-hitter and allowed only one run. Bahl (1-0) also totaled seven strikeouts and did not walk a batter. She won a battle of first-team All-Americans as Tennessee's Karlyn Pickens (0-1) took the loss.

Offensively, NU got a runner on base in six of its seven innings and enjoyed six hits, three of which came from <a href="https://huskers.com/sports/softball/roster/player/samantha-bland">Samantha Bland</a>, who had a double and two RBIs in addition to going 3-for-3. Bahl notched the first home run of her career - a two-run shot - to cap Nebraska's five-run fifth inning.

Tennessee opened up the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning when a Sophia Nungent hit a two-out bloop double that scored Zoie Shuler, giving the Vols a 1-0 edge.

Nebraska answered back in the top of the fifth. After the first two hitters were retired, <a href="https://huskers.com/sports/softball/roster/player/abbie-squier">Abbie Squier</a> singled before <a href="https://huskers.com/sports/softball/roster/player/lauren-camenzind">Lauren Camenzind</a> reached on a Tennessee error. With runners on first and third, Bland reached on an infield singled and another Vols error allowed Camenzind, Squier and Bland to all score and give the Huskers a 3-1 lead. The Big Red continued its offensive assault as <a href="https://huskers.com/sports/softball/roster/player/ava-kuszak">Ava Kuszak</a> got on base with a line drive to right field before Bahl hit her first career home run to push the lead 5-1.

Both teams went scoreless in the sixth and Nebraska maintained its 5-1 advantage going into the final inning of the night.

<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/softball/roster/player/lauren-camenzind">Lauren Camenzind</a> walked to kick off the top of the seventh, and Bland notched her third hit of the night, a double to center field, to score Camenzind. Bland went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Kuszak sacrifice fly to make the score 7-1.&nbsp;

Tennessee put two runners on base with one out in the bottom of the seventh but the Huskers ended the upset when Kuszak, Camenzind and <a href="https://huskers.com/sports/softball/roster/player/bella-bacon">Bella Bacon</a> combined for a double play to end the game.

The Huskers will continue NFCA Leadoff Classic action tomorrow, Feb. 7 with a matchup against Bethune-Cookman at 3 p.m. (CT) and one against Southern Miss at 6 p.m. (CT). Both games are free to watch on GameChanger and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.

No. 19 Huskers upset No. 6 Volunteers in season opener

Kearney, Neb. –&nbsp;The fourth-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team had eight bonus point victories and a forfeit to overwhelm Newman, 54-0, Thursday night in Wichita.

The Lopers (9-6, 3-0) improve to 15-0 all-time against the Jets (1-6, 1-3) with the last five duals by a tally of 220-12. The 54-point margin of victory is UNK's biggest since a 55-0 decision over a club team from Texas-Arlington in 2009-10.

The match of the night came at 165-pounds where sixth-ranked&nbsp;Trenton Munoz&nbsp;(Santa Clarita, Calif.) edged 13th-ranked Jace Fisher, 4-2. Fisher came in with a 20-3 record, but Munoz tallied a second period take down and a third period escape to win by two. He is now 15-4 on the winter.&nbsp;

At 125-pounds, second-ranked&nbsp;Zach Ourada&nbsp;(Omaha Skutt) returned to action after an injury break and promptly recorded a fall in just 1:36. Fifth-ranked&nbsp;Jackson Kinsella&nbsp;(Creston, Ia.) almost matched that time with a pin at 1:42 with top-ranked&nbsp;Crew Howard&nbsp;(Clarinda, Ia.) working over Caleb Wunsch, 18-2. Wunsch came in leading D2 in falls against D2 competition (12) and ranking sixth in point average (3.95).

UNK has a much tougher test Friday night against the fifth-ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos. UCO got past UNK, 22-14, at the Nationals Duals back in January.

Kearney, Neb. –&nbsp;Central City freshman southpaw&nbsp;Jerzie Schindler&nbsp;picked earned her first collegiate with and&nbsp;Rylyn Nelson&nbsp;and&nbsp;Alyssa Fortik&nbsp;had big days at the plate to help Nebraska Kearney beat Lewis (Ill.),&nbsp;[/documents/2025/2/7/stats_1738901714.html]7-6, and Chaminade,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://lopers.com/sports/softball/stats/2025/chaminade/boxscore/8170">4-2</a>, Thursday in Honolulu.

These games were part of the four-day&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.titletown-events.com/events/ulili-softball-invitational">Ulili Invitational</a>&nbsp;held at Sand Island State Park, home complex of both Chaminade and Hawai'i-Hilo.

UNK (3-1) turned to Schindler against the CU Silverswords (1-7) and she promptly allowed one earned run over the first five innings. Schindler worked around two wild pitches and five walks by fanning three and getting seven fly outs. At the plate, Fortik (Raymond) was 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI.

The Lopers erased a 1-0 deficit with a three-run third and then tacked on an insurance run in the fifth. California sophomore&nbsp;Daniella Morillas&nbsp;threw the final two innings and picked up a save as she got the 'Swords to ground out five times. CU did load the bases with one down in the seventh, but back-to-back fielder's choices brough home only a run and ended the game. CHADRON, Neb. - The annual Chadron State College Hoop Shoot, a two-day tournament for teams around the region in grades 4-8, will be held March 22-23, 2025 across multiple facilities on the Chadron State College campus. 

The cost to enter the tournament is an entry fee of $200 per team, which includes player passes and two coach passes per team for admission. The tournament will include pool play to determine seeding on Saturday, followed by a single-elimination tournament to determine a champion on Sunday.

To register, teams must first register their team through TourneyMachine at this link under the "Register" tab. There are individual divisions for both boys and girls teams at each grade level from 4th grade through 8th grade. Please ensure your team registers in the correct division. Once registered, the site will redirect to our Hometown Ticketing payment portal. Teams must be paid by March 21 to guarantee participation.

Annual CSC Hoop Shoot kids basketball event set for March 22-23

The Nebraska men's basketball team wraps up its West Coast trip on Wednesday night, as the Huskers travel to Seattle, Wash., to battle with Washington. Tipoff between the Huskers and Huskies from Alaska Airlines Arena is set for shortly after 9:30 p.m. (central) and the contest will be televised on BTN and carried on the Huskers Radio Network, as well as on Huskers.com and the Huskers app. The game will also be available on the Fox Sports App. &nbsp;

Nebraska (14-8, 4-7 B1G) enters the game with a two-game win streak following Sunday's 77-71 win at then No. 16 Oregon. That marked NU's fourth win over a ranked opponent this season.&nbsp;

Seniors Brice Williams and Juwan Gary shined in the win over the Ducks, combining for 51 points. Williams totaled a game-high 28 points along with seven rebounds and six assists as he posted his 10th 20-point game of the season. Gary chipped in 23 points and five rebounds as he posted his fourth 20-point performance of the year. As a team, Nebraska shot 51 percent from the field and went 21-of-29 from the line, including 16-of-20 from the charity stripe in the second half.&nbsp;

While Williams and Gary were the headliners, Nebraska got contributions up and down the rotation. Rollie Worster and Andrew Morgan combined for 19 points on 8-of-8 shooting while Braxton Meah, who had not played in NU's last two games, provided quality minutes off the bench as Nebraska battled foul trouble. Sam Hoiberg played a season-high 37 minutes and played a major role in helping limit Oregon guards Jackson Shelstad and Keeshawn Barthelemy to a combined 7-of-26 shooting &nbsp;

Washington (11-10, 2-8 B1G) comes off a 71-68 road win at Minnesota on Saturday afternoon. Tyler Harris led four Huskies in double figures with 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-4 from 3-point range. Great Osobor added 16 points and 10 rebounds as Washington snapped a six-game losing streak.

The Huskers return home following Wednesday's game for a two-game homestand featuring games against Ohio State and Maryland.

Numbers to Know1998-99: Nebraska has now won four games against ranked teams for the first time since the 1998-99 season and just fourth time in school history.

32: Fred Hoiberg has 32 wins over ranked opponents, including 11 career wins against top-10 teams, in his collegiate coaching career following Sunday's win at Oregon. In addition, his five road wins against ranked opponents is second only to Danny Nee (seven) all-time among NU men's basketball coaches.

.620: Over the last three seasons, Nebraska has played some of its best basketball down the stretch. NU is 17-11 in Big Ten games after Feb. 1 over the last three-plus seasons, including 6-2 in 2022-23 and 7-3 last season.

2: A pair of former Huskers will be in action during All-Star Weekend in San Francisco. Bryce McGowens will be the Castrol Rising Stars on Friday, Feb. 14, while Keisei Tominaga is part of the NBA G League Up Next Game on Sunday, Feb. 16. McGowens is currently second in the G League in scoring at 27.7 ppg.

25.1: Nebraska has gotten great production from its bench, averaging 25.1 points per game this season. &nbsp;Nebraska has gotten 22 double-figure efforts from its bench this season (Morgan-10, Essegian-10, Ulis-1; Worster-1). The Huskers led the Big Ten in bench production last season, averaging 21.4 points per game.

Worth Noting• With back-to-back wins over No. 18 Illinois and No. 16 Oregon, Nebraska has tied a school record for wins in a season with four. It tied the school record set three other times, most recently in 1998-99.&nbsp;

• Nebraska has won multiple games against ranked foes in three of the past four years and is now 9-9 in its last 18 games against ranked teams dating back to March 1, 2022.&nbsp;

• Nebraska comes off a streak of three straight games against ranked opponents, going 2-1 in that stretch. It marked the first time since Dec. 4-10, 2022, where NU faced three straight ranked teams.

• The Huskers will be looking for their fourth road win of the season at Washington on Wednesday. NU is 3-5 on the road this year and 5-6 away from Pinnacle Bank Arena. Two of NU's three road wins are against ranked foes. During non-conference action, NU was 4-1 in road/neutral games while its two wins (at Creighton and at Hawai'i) were half of the Big Ten's entire non-conference total.&nbsp;

• A pair of players will be facing their former team on Wednesday. Nebraska's Braxton Meah played two seasons (2022-23, 2023-24) at Washington while Washington's Wilhelm Breidenbach began his college career at Nebraska and spent the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons with the Huskers.&nbsp;

• While Wednesday's meeting is the first between the programs since the 1996-97 season, two members of the Husker roster have squared off with the Huskies previously. Rollie Worster averaged 9.4 ppg and 5.2 apg in five games against Washington at Utah, while Berke Büyüktuncel averaged 7.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg in two matchups last season while at UCLA.

• Of the six games in NU's recently ended losing streak, Nebraska has been within three points in the final 10 seconds of regulation four times.

• Nebraska had its fourth multiple 20-point game this season at Oregon with Brice Williams (28) and Juwan Gary (23). It marked the fourth time this season and 15th time in Fred Hoiberg's tenure that Nebraska had multiple players score 20+ points in a game.&nbsp;

• Nebraska is No. 50 in the NET on Feb. 2 and has plenty of opportunities to jump in the coming weeks. Nebraska picked up its fourth Quad 1 win on Sunday at Oregon. Five of the Huskers’ next six games are against Quad 1 opponents (OSU, MD, at PSU, at NW and Mich.). Eight teams are currently in the top 30 of the NET while 17 of 18 Big Ten teams are inside the top 100 as of Feb. 3.

• On Jan. 26, Brice and his father, Henry, became the seventh father-son duo to combine for 4,000 career points at the college level. Brice now has 1,646 career points and is now only 127 points away from reaching 1,000 as a Husker. Henry Williams, who passed away in 2018, was Charlotte's all-time leading scorer with 2,383 career points.

• Over the last 26 games dating back to last season, Brice Williams is averaging 19.2 points per game on .473 shooting and has 13 20-point efforts in that span, including 27 in Thursday's win over Illinois and 28 at Oregon. He has been in double figures in 24 of the last 26 contests. Williams averaged just 12.5 ppg over his first 30 games at Nebraska in 2023-24.

• Nebraska has put together two solid defensive efforts holding Illinois (0.94 ppp) and Oregon (1.02 ppp) in check offensively. &nbsp;NU is 11-0 when holding opponents to under one point per possession, but 3-8 when opponents are above 1.0 PPP. Nebraska has won its last 28 games dating back to the 2022-23 season when holding an opponent under 1.0 PPP.

• Connor Essegian has been one of the Big Ten's best sixth men, as the junior guard enters Wednesday's game at Washington averaging 11.0 points per contest. Essegian is one of only three Big Ten reserves currently averaging double figures while making five or fewer starts.

• Following his 23-point night at Oregon on Feb. 2, Juwan Gary has more 20-point games in his last 12 games (four) as in he did in his first 114 games of his career (three).

• Nebraska comes into Wednesday's game at Washington averaging 75.6 points per game. &nbsp;NU has scored 70+ points in 13 of 22 games, including eight games with at least 80 points. Last season, NU averaged 77.7 points per game for 34 games, its highest offensive total since the 1995-96 season.&nbsp;

• NU has relied on its depth with six players averaging at least 6.8 points per game. Eight players have posted double-figure efforts, while three players (Brice Williams, Connor Essegian and Juwan Gary) have recorded 20-point games. &nbsp;Williams is the only Husker in the top 30 of the Big Ten in scoring as of Feb. 3.

• With its 14-8 record in 2024-25, Nebraska is 43-22 over the last 65 games dating back to the start of February 2023. NU's .662 winning percentage ranks fourth among Big Ten programs in that stretch. &nbsp;NU went just 33-80 from the start of the 2019-20 season until Feb. 1, 2023.

• A pair of Huskers eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for their career on Jan. 19 at Maryland. Andrew Morgan reached the mark in the first half on his way to a season-high 17-point effort, while Juwan Gary reached the milestone late in the second half. NU's roster now has five career 1,000-point scorers (Brice Williams, Rienk Mast, Rollie Worster, Andrew Morgan and Juwan Gary).&nbsp;

• Brice Williams is just the sixth Husker in the Big Ten era to have multiple 30-point games. &nbsp;He had 30 points in the win over Indiana on Dec. 13 and tied his career high with 32 points against Hawai’i on Dec. 23. He is one of eight Big Ten players with multiple 30-point games this season.

• Ahron Ulis dished out a career-high 10 assists on Jan. 19 at Maryland. It more than tripled his previous season high of three and marked the first time a Husker had 10 assists in a game since Alonzo Verge Jr. in 2022. &nbsp;It also marked the first 10-assist game by a Husker reserve since Tom Wald had 11 in a win over Appalachian State on Dec. 31, 1994. &nbsp;According to Stathead.com, Ulis became the first Big Ten player to come off the bench and have 10 assists in a Big Ten game since A.J. Huggard had 10 assists against Purdue in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament.&nbsp;

• For most of the season, Nebraska was one of the most prolific teams in the Big Ten in getting to the foul line. Nebraska averaged 26.8 attempts per game during the first 14 contests but averaged just 16.3 attempts per game heading into Sunday's game at Oregon. In that game, NU went 21-of-29 from the line, including 16-of-20 in the second half.&nbsp;

• Nebraska is averaging 7.7 steals per game to rank sixth in the Big Ten as of Feb. 3. Four Huskers average at least one steal per game led by Sam Hoiberg, who is 14th in the conference with 1.3 spg.&nbsp;

• The Huskers are 38-6 over the last two seasons when out-rebounding opponents. NU had won 27 straight games when out-rebounding opponents before the streak was snapped against Saint Mary's on Nov. 17. Nebraska has been out-rebounded just five times in 22 games this season, and Thursday's win over Illinois marked the first time NU has been out-rebounded and won since Feb. 21, 2021 at Indiana.

• NU went 10-1 in non-conference action, only the seventh time since WWII that NU finished its non-con slate with one loss (also 10-1, 2023-24; 10-1, 2018-19; 10-1, 2003-04; 12-1, 1991-92; 15-1, 1990-91; 11-1, 1977-78).

• Nebraska's 2024 Diamond Head Classic title marked the program's first MTE event title since the 2000 San Juan Shootout. With the win, Nebraska Coach Fred Hoiberg became the first coach to win multiple Diamond Head Classic titles, as he coached Iowa State to the 2013 championship.

• Brice Williams earned MVP honors at the Diamond Head Classic, as he averaged 22.0 points per game on 56 percent shooting, 3.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Williams averaged 19.3 ppg on 57 percent shooting in seven December games following his 11-point, seven-rebound effort against Southern.&nbsp;

• Nebraska is 38-7 (.844) inside Pinnacle Bank Arena over the last three seasons. The Huskers had a school-record 20-game home win streak snapped against Rutgers on Jan. 16.&nbsp;

• Nebraska comes off one of its most successful seasons in program history. Sunday’s result marked the first time in franchise history that the Supernovas have been swept, ending its streak of 33 consecutive matches with at least one set win.&nbsp;

Omaha received career days from several of its rookies, including opposite Londot who hammered down six kills (.263) and seven digs, plus a team-leading three blocks in only two sets. Wait put on display her all-around talent with 14 assists, eight digs, one kill and an ace after entering the match in the second set. Awoleye — who was one of the NCAA’s top blockers in all her five of her college seasons — recorded her first pro block in the third set. All stat lines from each player are career highs.&nbsp;

Cooper recorded double figure kills for the fourth match this season while also leading the team in terminations for the third-straight contest. Although, she was the lone Supernova to reach double digits as&nbsp;Brooke Nuneviller&nbsp;posted eight kills and 12 digs.&nbsp;Kelsie Payne&nbsp;was limited to four kills and four digs, but had her second ace of the season.

Starting middle blockers&nbsp;Kaitlyn Hord&nbsp;and&nbsp;Kayla Caffey&nbsp;struggled as Hord was held to no kills with two digs while Caffey tallied two kills. Setter&nbsp;Natalia Valentín-Anderson&nbsp;dished out 13 assists and six digs. Libero&nbsp;Camila Gómez&nbsp;had 17 digs on the afternoon, which marks her fourth double-figure dig total in a match this season.&nbsp;

As a team, Omaha hit .159 with five blocks and a pair of aces.&nbsp;

Brittany Abercrombie continued her MVP campaign with a match-high 16 kills (.244), 12 digs, three blocks and one ace. Fellow star hitter Adora Anae tallied 13 kills on a .312 clip with nine digs and one block. South Korean setter Pornpun Guedpard racked up 44 assists and eight digs in three sets. The Valkyries hit .305 in the match with eight blocks and Abercrombie’s lone ace.&nbsp;

The Supernovas continue their three-match road swing next week when they face the Indy Ignite for the first time in franchise history on Thursday, February 6. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CST at Fishers Event Center. Omaha follows up with a rivalry showdown against the Atlanta Vibe on Saturday, February 8 at 6 p.m. at Gas South Arena.&nbsp;

Set 1:&nbsp;Nuneviller grabbed an early kill to start things early as Cooper followed up for a kill of her own to give Omaha a 4-3 lead. Anae teed off on the Supernovas defense from the beginning with a pair of kills as part of a 5-1 run to give Orlando an 8-5 advantage. Payne slammed down one of her four kills to keep her team within striking distance at 12-9 Valkyries. Cooper tallied another kill, but two more terminations from Anae pushed the lead to 17-12. Payne and Nuneviller answered with back-to-back kills to garner some momentum. Anae and former Supernova Lindsey Vander Weide put away balls to put the Orlando lead at 19-15. Omaha rallied for its biggest scoring run of the afternoon as two Nuneviller kills, plus Payne’s ace tied the set at 19. Later tied at 20, the Valkyries burst out for a quick 3-1 run with Anae and Vander Weide slamming down kills. Cooper kept the Supernovas in it with a tally, but Anae and Abercrombie recorded back-to-back points for a 25-22 set win for Orlando.&nbsp;

Omaha produced offensively with a .290 hitting percentage in the opening set including a team-high five kills from Nuneviller (.455) and three each from Cooper and Payne (.400). The Valkyries were just better in that regard, recording a .429 clip with nine kills from Anae (.500) and four from Abercrombie (.444). &nbsp;

Set 2:&nbsp;Orlando continued its momentum from the first set with a 5-1 scoring run which was stamped by two kills from Abercrombie and the first of eight kills from Courtney Schwan. Payne, Caffey and Nuneviller contributed offensively with one kill each to make it 10-5 Valkyries. A 3-1 burst from the Supernovas — aided by two Valkyrie service errors — cut the lead to 11-8, but that’s the closest Omaha would get in the set. Guedpard went on to serve an 8-0 run to give Orlando a commanding 19-8 lead. Anae had two kills and a block while Abercrombie contributed a kill and one block in the set-deciding scoring run. Omaha responded with a flurry of substitutions, including Wait and Londot. The two rookies provided a spark as the Supernovas went on a 5-1 run with two kills from Cooper and a block each from Nuneviller and Londot. In fact, after the 8-0 run by Orlando, Omaha outscored the Valkyries 10-5, but Abercrombie was responsible for three of Orlando’s final five points in a 25-18 set win.&nbsp;

The Supernovas hit just .079 with a team-high four kills from Cooper. The Valkyries continued their offensive prowess with a .333 hitting percentage and a team-leading seven kills from Abercrombie.&nbsp;

Set 3:&nbsp;Omaha kept its rookies in following the intermission and they rewarded the Supernovas with a 6-2 run to start the third set as Wait recorded a kill on a setter dump, plus her first career ace. Londot got into the action with a kill of her own. 2024 PVF Blocker of the Year Kaz Brown recorded her first and only block of the afternoon, which was followed by an Abercrombie ace and kill to cut the lead to 6-5. A Cooper kill combined with an Orlando hitting error put the advantage back to 8-5. The Valkyries tied the set at eight following a 3-0 run, but Londot answered with back-to-back terminations to put the score back in Omaha’s favor at 10-8. However, Omaha couldn’t contain Orlando's star attackers in a 22-25, 18-25, 20-25 sweep Sunday afternoon at Addition Financial Arena.&nbsp;Sunday’s result marked the first time in franchise history that the Supernovas have been swept, ending its streak of 33 consecutive matches with at least one set win.&nbsp;Omaha received career days from several of its rookies, including opposite Londot who hammered down six kills (.263) and seven digs, plus a team-leading three blocks in only two sets. Wait put on display her all-around talent with 14 assists, eight digs, one kill and an ace after entering the match in the second set. Awoleye — who was one of the NCAA’s top blockers in all her five of her college seasons — recorded her first pro block in the third set. All stat lines from each player are career highs.&nbsp;Cooper recorded double figure kills for the fourth match this season while also leading the team in terminations for the third-straight contest. Although, she was the lone Supernova to reach double digits as&nbsp;Brooke Nuneviller&nbsp;posted eight kills and 12 digs.&nbsp;Kelsie Payne&nbsp;was limited to four kills and four digs, but had her second ace of the season.Starting middle blockers&nbsp;Kaitlyn Hord&nbsp;and&nbsp;Kayla Caffey&nbsp;struggled as Hord was held to no kills with two digs while Caffey tallied two kills. Anae teed off on the Supernovas defense from the beginning with a pair of kills as part of a 5-1 run to give Orlando an 8-5 advantage. Payne slammed down one of her four kills to keep her team within striking distance at 12-9 Valkyries. Cooper tallied another kill, but two more terminations from Anae pushed the lead to 17-12. Payne and Nuneviller answered with back-to-back kills to garner some momentum. Anae and former Supernova Lindsey Vander Weide put away balls to put the Orlando lead at 19-15. Omaha rallied for its biggest scoring run of the afternoon as two Nuneviller kills, plus Payne’s ace tied the set at 19. Later tied at 20, the Valkyries burst out for a quick 3-1 run with Anae and Vander Weide slamming down kills. Cooper kept the Supernovas in it with a tally, but Anae and Abercrombie recorded back-to-back points for a 25-22 set win for Orlando.&nbsp;Omaha produced offensively with a .290 hitting percentage in the opening set including a team-high five kills from Nuneviller (.455) and three each from Cooper and Payne (.400). The Valkyries were just better in that regard, recording a .429 clip with nine kills from Anae (.500) and four from Abercrombie (.444). &nbsp;Set 2:&nbsp;Orlando continued its momentum from the first set with a 5-1 scoring run which was stamped by two kills from Abercrombie and the first of eight kills from Courtney Schwan. Payne, Caffey and Nuneviller contributed offensively with one kill each to make it 10-5 Valkyries. A 3-1 burst from the Supernovas — aided by two Valkyrie service errors — cut the lead to 11-8, but that’s the closest Omaha would get in the set. Guedpard went on to serve an 8-0 run to give Orlando a commanding 19-8 lead. Anae had two kills and a block while Abercrombie contributed a kill and one block in the set-deciding scoring run. Omaha responded with a flurry of substitutions, including Wait and Londot. The two rookies provided a spark as the Supernovas went on a 5-1 run with two kills from Cooper and a block each from Nuneviller and Londot. Cooper and Rookies Stand Out, but Supernovas swept by Valkyries

Norfolk, Neb.– Neveah Golden recorded 16 points and nine rebounds to help North Platte earn the win over Northeast Community College, 60-45, on Saturday.

Golden’s 16 points came on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Sophomore Kateria Gooden harnessed 10 rebounds to accompany her nine points, while Jada Thompson added nine points and three steals.

"We had a great defensive effort today against a solid, well-coached Northeast team," said head coach Jeff Thurman. "Extremely proud of our attention to detail on the defensive end and how we executed on the offensive end.”

A balanced offense helped North Platte hold the Hawks to just three points in the opening ten minutes. A jumper from Thompson triggered a 16-0 run that was broken up by a Clara Garrote free throw with 29 seconds remaining.

Northeast settled into their offensive rhythm early in the second quarter, as they cut the margin to 10 with 5:56 to play. A three from Thompson triggered a 7-0 spurt to push the Knights lead to 30-13. Northeast held the Knights to just three more points over the final 2:01, but North Platte still held a commanding 33-18 lead at the break.

The Knights maintained their double-digit lead throughout the final twenty minutes, as the Hawks could only manage to trim the deficit to 13.

A late run midway through the fourth quarter gave the Knights their largest lead of the game on a layup by EmmaJo Locks, 57-34. Northeast responded by narrowing the deficit to 15 at the end of regulation.

North Platte (14-10) will host McCook Community College on Tuesday. Tip is scheduled for 5 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

Knights stretch win streak to four games with win over Northeast

Nebraska slipped to 16-6 overall and 7-4 in the Big Ten, while the Hoosiers improved to 14-7 and 6-4 in the conference.

Bozan, a 6-5 center from Croatia, scored all of her team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter, including a 7-0 run for the Big Red to open the period and cut Indiana's lead to 57-48 after the Hoosiers carried a 57-41 lead after three quarters.

But Shay Ciezki and Yarden Garzon answered with back-to-back threes to push the Indiana margin back to 15 and squelch NU's comeback hopes. Garzon, who led four Hoosiers in double figures with 19 points, connected on 5-of-9 threes. Chloe Moore-McNeil pitched in 15 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting while adding seven rebounds and seven assists, as Indiana hit 13-of-30 threes on the afternoon.&nbsp;
