SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Creighton men’s tennis team opened the 2026 fall season with a 7-0 sweep of Gustavus Adolphus and followed it up with eight wins on day one of the Augustana Invite in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday, Sept. 12.
The Bluejays opened the day with its first dual win of the season, dominating Gustavus Adolphus with a 7-0 sweep to improve to 1-0 on the season.
CU stormed out to a 1-0 lead with victories on all three doubles courts. Sophomore Mathis Dahler and Neil Saxer captured a 6-4 win on the No. 2 doubles court, before freshman Timothee Lustig and junior Rocky McKenzie clinched the doubles point with an identical 6-4 win at the No. 3 doubles position. Sophomores Jack McMahon and Lucas Mommessin, meanwhile, opened their season with a 7-5 win on the top doubles court.
In singles, the Jays continued on the same path, earning straight set victories on five of the six singles courts. McKenzie rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph on the No. 4 singles court, while Sebastian Papp cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 victory at the No. 6 singles position to give the Jays a 3-0 advantage.
Dahler then clinched the match moments later with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 singles spot. Saxer kept things rolling with a 6-3, 6-4 victory on the No. 2 singles court to give Creighton a 4-0 edge, before closing out the sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 victory from Mommessin at the No. 5 singles spot and a 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-0) three-set triumph from Lustig at the top singles position.
The Bluejays then opened play at the Augustana Invite with three doubles victories in Flight 1 and 2 to advance to Sunday’s semifinal round.
Dahler and McKenzie teamed up for an 8-4 win over Nebraska Kearney’s Jakub Strzelecki and Ilan Fuentes, while Maxime Gruenig and Saxer combined for an identical 8-4 win over Gustavus’ Noah Hakim and Owen Skanse in Flight 1. McMahon and Mommessin then rallied late for an 8-7 (7-3) tiebreaking win over Gustavus’ Yash Bahlkar and Quinn Monson to advance in Flight 2.
Singles play saw Lustig cruise to the Flight 1 Main Draw Finals following a 6-2, 6-1 straight sets win over Monson. Papp, meanwhile, advanced to the Flight 2 Main Draw Finals with a 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 three-set victory over Augustana’s Thomas Kano and a 6-1, 6-3 straight sets win over Owen Skanse.
Gruenig also picked up a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 straight set win over Gustavus Christopher Dencker in Flight 2, before dropping a 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 11-9 decision to Augustana’s Pedro Pino in the semifinals.
Creighton will wrap up play at the Augustana Invite on Sunday morning with action beginning at 9 a.m.
