Ogallala, Ne - Brent Bauer, the head football coach at Ogallala High School since 2017, is heading to Alliance to become the new Athletic Director and Assistant High School Principal. 

Bauer made the move public on social media Monday. Bauer a Pleasanton native just celebrated his 25th year in coaching. He said, "

Wendy and I are so excited to get the opportunity to work with the coaches, sponsors, school and community of Alliance!  Just as we did at Ogallala, we will give Alliance all we have. Bauer replaces Alliance Athletic Director Michael Baker. Baker has accepted the same position at Lincoln Lutheran High School. Former Ogallala Football Coach headed to Alliance to become Athletic Director

The No. 18 Nebraska softball team is set to host the Indiana Hoosiers for a two-game Big Ten series on April 18-19. Friday’s game is set to start at 5 p.m. (CT), while Saturday’s matchup will start at 1 p.m. (CT).&nbsp;

NU was tabbed No. 18 by the NFCA Coaches Poll this week, No. 21 by USA Softball and D1 Softball and No. 22 by Softball America.

Last weekend, the Huskers traveled to Evanston, Ill., to take on the Northwestern Wildcats. The Big Red came out of the weekend with a sweep, where the first two games came in run-rule fashion. It was the first time that Northwestern had lost a conference series since 2022 and the first time they’d been run-ruled twice in a row since 2016. Jordyn Bahl pitched two complete games in the series and struck out 25 batters while allowing only one run. She earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors for her performance. Kylee Magee threw the second game of the series, her first complete game of the year, and allowed one run and only three hits. Offensively, Bahl had eight RBIs, six hits and two homers, while Ava Kuszak, Samantha Bland and Hannah Camenzind added a homer apiece in the series.&nbsp;

Friday’s game will be on B1G+ and Saturday’s contest will be televised on Nebraska Public Media. Every game will&nbsp; have a free radio broadcast with Nate Rohr on the call. The radio broadcast is available at Huskers.com/listen and on the official Huskers app. Fans are reminded that Bowlin Stadium is cashless and reentry will not be allowed.&nbsp;

The Nebraska softball team has enjoyed a solid season at the plate, most notably with its home run numbers.&nbsp;

Nebraska softball pitcher and utility player Jordyn Bahl has not only had an impact in the circle, but her offense is a force to be reckoned with.

Nebraska utilized the transfer portal this offseason, bringing in six new players -- Hannah and Lauren Camenzind and Kacie Hoffmann from Arkansas, Olivia DiNardo from Arizona, Kylee Magee from Arizona State and Ava Kuszak from Wisconsin.

Nebraska’s 2025 roster consists of 25 total athletes. Fourteen of those are returners.

Nebraska faced significant adversity in 2024, as a total of six players suffered season-ending injuries, including four that are returning for the 2025 season. Additionally, Arizona State transfer Kylee Magee had to use the offseason for rehab.&nbsp;

Indiana is 28-12 on the season with an even 7-7 mark in Big Ten competition. As a team, the Hoosiers bat .384, which is the best average in the conference. Their pitching staff owns an ERA of 4.26.&nbsp;

She is tied with Kaylan Jablonski, Christie McCoy and Ava Kuszak, who knocked three homers against Montana earlier this season.</li><li>Bland had a nine-game hitting streak that started on March 29 against Purdue and ended on April 13 at Northwestern. She had the highest average on the team at .536 during that streak, along with 14 RBIs, five homers, 15 hits and two doubles.&nbsp;</li><li>There are only 20 players in the nation that average more than one hit, one run and one RBI per game. She hit .244 and logged 16 doubles, 15 home runs and 47 RBIs.&nbsp;</li><li>Kuszak earned second-team All-Big Ten honors and third-team NFCA All-Great Lakes Region accolades in 2024. During her two seasons at Wisconsin, she played in 76 games with 65 starts and notched 16 doubles, 10 home runs and 33 RBIs on a .278 batting average.</li><li>Magee was named a member of the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team at Arizona State in 2023. She suffered an injury early in the 2024 season. She pitched in 27 games with 24 starts and compiled a 3.51 ERA and two saves, along with striking out 79 batters in 89.2 innings.</li>

 <li>Indiana and Nebraska have common opponents in Texas Tech, Iowa and Ohio State. Both teams lost to Texas Tech -- the Hoosiers did twice -- but the Huskers went 2-1 against Iowa while Indiana was 0-2. Both NU and IU were 1-2 against Ohio State.</li><li>Indiana’s batting average of .384 is the highest in the country. Every player that has started more than 15 games for the Hoosiers has an average above .335.</li><li>The Hoosiers are first nationally in doubles per game (2.11) and third in total doubles (78). They also rank first in the nation with an on-base percentage of .475.</li><li>Taylor Minnick leads the Hoosier bats in almost every offensive category. She has a .513 batting average, which is sixth nationally, along with 59 hits, 50 runs scored, 18 doubles, 12 homers, two triples, 49 RBIs and 117 total bases. She owns a slugging percentage of 1.017 and an on-base percentage of .615.</li><li>Two-way player Brianna Copeland has racked up 12 home runs and 38 RBIs this season, along with 86 total baes, 47 runs scored and nine doubles on a .339 average.</li><li>Avery Parker has 10 homers and 12 doubles on the season, along with a .431 batting average. She adds 50 RBIs on 53 hits.</li><li>Melina Wilkinson has started every game this season and has 45 hits, 32 RBIs, six homers, 10 doubles and four triples.&nbsp;</li><li>Kinsey Mitchell has started every game for the Hoosiers and has 32 RBIs on 42 hits, including 13 doubles and two home runs.&nbsp;</li><li>Aly VanBrandt has 20 RBIs on the year with two homers, eight doubles, a triple and 45 hits.</li><li>Madalyn Strader has the second-highest batting average on the team at .439. She adds nine RBIs, three triples and two doubles in 82 at bats.</li><li>Alex Cooper owns 20 RBIs, 51 total bases, three homers, seven doubles and 28 runs scored across a .340 batting average.</li><li>Copeland has thrown the majority of the Hoosiers’ innings at 101.2 and has an ERA of 4.96 with a 12-5 record. She has struck out 117 batters and allowed 72 earned runs.</li><li>Jasmine Reyes is 6-3 on the season with an ERA of 4.05. She has pitched 64.0 innings, the second-most on the team, and struck out 31 batters while allowing 37 earned runs.</li><li>Jenae Berry has the best ERA on the team at 3.41 and has pitched 51.1 innings. She has a record of 9-4 and has allowed 25 earned runs and struck out 19 batters.</li><li>Kentucky transfer Taylor Hess is 1-0 with a 3.61 ERA across 21.1 innings. She has allowed 11 earned runs and struck out 10 batters.</li><li>Shonda Stanton is in her eighth season at Indiana and 27th overall. She has a career record of 825-606-2 and 238-151 with the Hoosiers.</li>

Huskers welcome Indiana for two-game series

For its final duals of the regular season, the No. 73 Nebraska women’s tennis team is heading west. The Huskers (12-10, 2-9 Big Ten) will face No. 18 Washington (17-3, 9-2 Big Ten) on Friday, April 18, at 3 p.m. (CT). NU is set to take on Oregon (8-12, 1-10 Big Ten) on Sunday, April 20, at 11 a.m. (CT).

On the east coast, Maria Taranova claimed her 21st singles win of the season, the sophomore’s second time accomplishing 20+ victories in a year. Taranova leads the team with 14 spring singles wins, followed by Zamburek’s 12-3 mark. On the doubles side, Emma Rizzetto and Tiziana Rossini have tallied five victories together. The Big Ten weekend against the Huskies and Ducks will conclude regular season play for the Huskers.

History: 1-0 NU leads; The Huskies and Huskers have met once before on the court, in which the Big Red won.

UW split its last road Big Ten weekend, with a 4-0 sweep of Michigan State and a 1-4 loss to Michigan. Washington’s Reece Carter is on both sides of the current ITA rankings, coming in at No. 94 in singles and No. 52 in doubles with partner Alexia Jacobs. Heading into the weekend, UW is tied with Ohio State for third place in the Big Ten with a 9-2 conference record - the most conference wins by Washington since at least 1998.

History: 2-1 NU leads; In their three matches, the Big Red have won two against UO. Their last meeting was 30 years ago in 1995.

There are no Ducks in the current ITA rankings. In its last outing, Oregon nearly pulled off an upset of No. 58 Michigan State, pushing the match to its final point in a 4-3 defeat. UO got singles wins from freshman Patsy Daughters and Young in addition to the doubles point. The Ducks will host Iowa on Friday.

The Huskers are coming off the fall individual season in which the team tallied 34 singles wins. Taranova led the Big Red in fall singles wins with seven, and had a stellar freshman season in which she earned a 23-8 record, the most wins by a freshman since 2010.

In the 2023-24 season, led by head coach Dalmagro, his first year at NU, the Huskers went 14-11. The team accomplished two Big Ten Tournament wins for the first time in program history and senior Raphaelle Lacasse was named an All-Big Ten First Team honoree.

John Sims IV of Omaha Westview is the first recruit for the 2025-2026 season for second-year head coach Jacob Brandl. Sims averaged 11.2 points per game with 4.2 rebounds per game and 4.2 assists per game. Sims helped lead the Wolverines to their best finish in school history last season where they finished the year 22-3 falling one game shy of a State Championship bid in only their third year as a school.

After notching its seventh conference win at Wisconsin, the No. 41 Nebraska men’s tennis team will host No. 26 USC and No. 21 UCLA this weekend to close the regular season. The Huskers (14-7, 7-4 Big Ten) face the Trojans on Friday, April 18, at 6 p.m. (CT). Then on Sunday, April 20, the Big Red meet up against the Bruins at noon (CT).

Both Big Ten matchups are the first between programs. Friday’s match will feature an iPad giveaway, while Sunday’s match is Senior Day. The Huskers will be honoring their five senior student-athletes prior to the match.

NU has three Huskers in the rankings as of April 15. Senior Calvin Mueller is currently ranked No. 63 in the ITA National Rankings, while doubles duo Lars Johann and Anton Shepp hold the No. 56 doubles spot.

History: 0-0; Friday will be the first meeting between NU and USC.

Trojan Peter Makk comes to Lincoln as the most recent Big Ten Player of the Week after his 4-0 performance at Michigan and Michigan State. Makk is currently ranked No. 17 by the ITA, and is the only Trojan in the rankings. USC is coming off a 4-0 sweep against No. 21 Michigan.

Supernovas outside hitter&nbsp;Brooke Nuneviller&nbsp;led the charge with a match-high 14 points compiled by 10 kills, two blocks, two aces and six digs.&nbsp;Reagan Cooper&nbsp;tied her teammate with 10 kills while adding eight digs and one block. Creek Valley Twilight Track & Field Results

Former Nebraska volleyball libero Lexi Rodriguez made history Tuesday night, becoming the first Nebraska volleyball student-athlete to win the AAU James E. Sullivan Award, presented annually to the most exceptional athlete at the collegiate, Olympic, or other similarly elite level in the United States.

Rodriguez was announced as the winner of the 95th AAU Sullivan Award at the New York Athletic Club. The other finalists were Trey Augustine (Ice Hockey, Michigan State), Cooper Flagg (Basketball, Duke), Ashton Jeanty (Football, Boise State), Lee Kiefer (Fencing, USA) and Ilia Malinin (Figure Skating, USA). 

As well as honoring athletic excellence, the AAU Sullivan award also recognizes the chosen athlete’s character and honors their quality of leadership, citizenship and sportsmanship.

A native of Sterling, Ill., Rodriguez joins a renowned list of recipients. Last year, Caitlin Clark became the first two-time winner of the award. Other prior winners include Michael Phelps, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Michelle Kwan, Peyton Manning, Simone Biles, Carl Lewis and Carissa Moore. Rodriguez is just the third volleyball player to earn the award, joining Lauren Carlini (2016) and Kathryn Plummer (2018). 

Rulon Gardner (2000) is the only other University of Nebraska student-athlete to receive the award. Four other Nebraska volleyball players had previously been finalists for the honor: Kelsey Robinson (2014-15), Mikaela Foecke (2016-17 and 2018-19), Kelly Hunter (2017-18) and Annika Albrecht (2017-18). 

Rodriguez finished her Husker career in December as a four-time AVCA All-American, a four-time All-Big Ten selection, and a three-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. She was an AVCA National Player of the Year finalist and a Honda Sport Award for Volleyball finalist in 2024, and she became the first-ever libero to be named AVCA Region Player of the Year.

Rodriguez is Nebraska's all-time career leader in digs with 1,897. She is also a three-time Academic All-American, including two first-team accolades. Rodriguez completed her first professional season over the weekend with LOVB Omaha, as they finished as runner-up in the inaugural season of League One Volleyball.

Rodriguez wins AAU James E. Sullivan Award

Dylan Carey went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a pair of RBI in Nebraska’s 6-3 win at Creighton on Tuesday night at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.

Nebraska (17-20) scored six runs on 12 hits, while Creighton (20-12) totaled three runs, seven hits and two errors.

Case Sanderson was 2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored, while Joshua Overbeek drove in a run on a 2-for-5 night. Robby Bolin and Hogan Helligso recorded a double, while Tyler Stone, Max Buettenback and Cayden Brumbaugh had one hit apiece.

Ryan Harrahill surrendered a pair of runs on two hits in one inning of work. Gavin Blachowicz tossed a pair of scoreless frames, while Pryce Bender moved to 2-0 on the season after working a season-high 2.2 innings. The freshman allowed one run on two hits and struck out three with one walk.

Grant Cleavinger and Casey Daiss teamed up to throw 1.1 scoreless innings, followed by Luke Broderick dealing scoreless eighth and ninth innings to pick up his eighth save of the year.

Creighton jumped out to a two-run lead behind a pair of hits in the bottom of the first. A leadoff double down the left-field line and a plunked batter put runners on first and second with no outs.

An RBI single through the right side broke the scoreless tie, while a sacrifice fly lifted to deep center field tacked on another run to make it a 2-0 game through the first.

The Huskers answered with a run on two hits to cut the deficit in half in the top of the second. Carey’s one-out single to center, and a full-count walk to Cael Frost had runners on first and second, before Overbeek’s RBI single to center plated Carey from second base to trim the CU lead to 2-1 through two innings.

Nebraska added another run in the top of the third to tie the game back up at two apiece. The Huskers had runners on first and second with one out after Buettenback singled to left field, followed by a full-count walk to Stone. Carey smacked a 1-0 pitch for an RBI double down the right-field line to score Buettenback and even the game at two.

Creighton took the lead back at 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out solo home run down the right-field line.

The Huskers responded immediately with a run of their own in the top of the fifth to tie the game back up at three. Stone’s leadoff single down the left-field line, and Carey plunked on a 1-1 pitch had runners on first and second with no outs for the NU offense. Frost reached on a throwing error, allowing Stone to score all the way from second to lock the game at three with four innings to play.

Nebraska added a pair of runs with two hits in the top of the sixth to grab a 5-3 lead over the Bluejays. Sanderson began the inning with a triple off the center-field wall and trotted home on an RBI single off the bat of Brumbaugh. Buettenback drew a walk, while a groundout to first by Stone moved Brumbaugh and Buettenback to second and third with one out.

Carey lifted a 1-2 pitch to center field for his team-leading sixth sacrifice fly of the season, scoring Brumbaugh from third and doubling the lead to 5-3.

The NU offense added an insurance run in the top of the eighth with back-to-back two-out doubles off the bats of Carey and Bolin.

Creighton threatened in the bottom of the eighth, bringing the tying run to the plate with one out after a pair of singles. Broderick eluded any damage, inducing an inning-ending, 4-6-3 double play to send a 6-3 lead into the ninth inning.

Nebraska welcomes Northwestern to Lincoln for a three-game series this weekend at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park. First pitch between the Huskers and Wildcats in the series opener on Friday night is set for 6:02 p.m. on B1G+.

Carey, Huskers tame Bluejays on Tuesday

Hastings, Neb.&nbsp; – The Knights opened their road trip by splitting games with Hastings College JV on Tuesday.

An RBI double by Heaven Hutchison scored the opening run in the top of the first inning to kick start an action-packed game one. Hastings capitalized in the bottom half of the frame with two runs, but eight runs over the next two innings pushed the Knights comfortably out front.

Hastings added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but North Platte countered with two runs in the top of the seventh to stretch their lead to 11-3. Down to their final three outs, the Broncos managed to push three runners across the plate, but the Knights held on to claim the win.

Sarah Perez got the start in the circle and pitched 6.2 innings. She allowed six runs on seven hits and struck out three, while Alieze Moreno came on in relief and allowed no runs on no hits.

Hastings grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Gracey Graf. The Broncos stretched their lead while adding three runs in the third and fifth innings. North Platte was held to just four hits in the final four innings as the Broncos earned the split.

Moreno took the loss for the Knights while allowing four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings. Victoria Arellano pitched the final 3.1 innings allowing three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking two.

Knights (5-21) will continue their road trip as they head to Sterling, Colo. for a doubleheader with Northeastern Junior College. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22.

CHADRON, Neb. – Lauren Zimmerman finished with an RBI in each game to become Chadron State's all-time program RBI leader as Chadron State took three of four games in the series against Fort Lewis, splitting the two games on the day with an 8-1 victory followed by a 10-2 loss. 

Tori Haug continued her impressive pitching on the weekend, allowing one run on five hits in seven innings for her second victory of the series after a five-inning shutout the day before. Aside from Zimmerman, Ashland Baca and J'lyssa Martinez also drove in two runs apiece on the day. 

Chadron State's record now sits at 17-25 overall with a 13-23 record in the RMAC. Fort Lewis sits at 9-31 overall and 8-27 in the RMAC after Sunday's split. 

The Eagles continued their momentum from a dominant Saturday that saw CSC outscore Fort Lewis 10-0 over the first doubleheader of the series. Chadron State exploded for a five-run second inning that set the home team on its way to win its third straight in game one of Sunday's action. 

Freshman Skyhawk starter Addison Gavigan lost the strike zone, with four walks to Brogan Allen, Sophia Brennan, Angelina Quezada and Elizabeth Thorngren plus a wild pitch putting the Eagles on the board. Gavigan recovered with a strikeout and a sacrifice fly from Jazlyn Arvizo, which made it 2-0 CSC but also put a second out on the board. 

Then, it was Zimmerman's moment. The senior third baseman doubled to the left-center field gap, scoring Quezada standing up. It was Zimmerman's eighth double and 39th RBI of the season, and it gave her 140 RBI for her career, passing alum Allison Hendricksen for first on CSC's all-time lists. 

Ashland Baca continued the inning with another double to straightaway center that just missed going over the fence, scoring Thorngren and Zimmerman to run CSC's lead up to 5-0. 

Fort Lewis got on the board in the fourth on back-to-back doubles, but Haug recovered to end the inning with the help of a line-drive double-play from third baseman Zimmerman to second baseman Arvizo. 

The Eagles answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-out rally, as Arivzo singled before Zimmerman and Baca walked to load the bases and J'lyssa Martinez came through with an opposite-field double down the left field line to score two runs and make it 7-1. Kenzi Garner, pinch-hitting at the plate before her game two start in the circle, went yard to left center for her second home run of the year to cap the CSC scoring. 

For as many things went right for the Eagles in the first three games of the series, everything seemed to unravel in game four. Garner allowed five runs on six hits in three-plus innings, Chadron State made five errors defensively and Fort Lewis hit three home runs in the fourth and fifth innings to end the series finale by run rule in the minimum five innings. 

Zimmerman added to her RBI total by scoring Arvizo, who had doubled to lead off the bottom of the first, with a one-out single. Zimmerman's program-record career RBI total now sits at 141 and counting. The Eagles got their other run on the day on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Elizabeth Thorngren. 

Chadron State now hits the road to face Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction next Friday and Saturday. The Mavericks (31-11, 29-7 RMAC) are in the RMAC title hunt and lead by half a game over MSU Denver and a full game over Colorado Christian, who CMU just split a four-game series with. First pitch Friday is set for 12 p.m.

Zimmerman sets CSC softball RBI record as Eagles take three games from Fort Lewis

CHADRON, Neb. – The 2025 Eagle Athletic Auction fundraiser and 2025 Don Beebe Golf Classic will officially take place this Memorial Day weekend from Friday, May 23 through Sunday, May 25. 

The weekend serves as an opportunity for Chadron alumni, supporters and community members to hear from CSC coaches, student-athletes and athletic administration in a variety of social settings. Registration is now open.

The weekend of festivities will begin with the Eagle Athletic Auction on Friday night. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Elliott Field at Don Beebe Stadium will host a social featuring registration and games, including a chip-in golf event. 

The auction program includes dinner at 6 p.m. and both silent and live auction items, including branded apparel, golf trips, handmade local items, outings to local attractions and experiences with Chadron State teams and coaches. 

Individual entry tickets for the auction are $50, or $25 when combined with the purchase of a Don Beebe Golf Classic entry. Dinner is provided and included in the ticket price. Another option is to purchase a table for $500, where eight guests will be joined by two CSC coaches or student-athletes. Table pricing includes two drink tickets per seat. 

The 2025 Don Beebe Golf Classic at Ridgeview Golf Club presented by Monument Health will take place on Saturday and Sunday. There will be two flights, both with shotgun starts, and various hole prizes. The morning flight will tee off starting at 7 a.m. while the afternoon flight will begin at 1:30 p.m.

There will also be a social at The Ridge in downtown Chadron on Saturday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Awards presentations will take place for the morning flight at noon and at 6 p.m. for the afternoon flight on Sunday.

Registration prices are $200 for an individual and $800 for a full four-golfer team. There are limited team slots available, so teams are encouraged to register as soon as possible to lock down a spot. Competing golfers can also purchase discounted Eagle Athletic Auction tickets for $25 instead of the non-golfer rate of $50.

Registration open for CSC's annual Don Beebe Classic golf tournament

The No. 21 Nebraska softball team notched its second straight run-rule win with a 10-1 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats in five innings on Sunday in Evanston, Ill.

The Huskers moved to 31-10 (10-3 Big Ten) on the year, while Northwestern fell to 20-14-1 (9-3 Big Ten). With the series win, the Big Red snapped the Wildcats’ streak of winning 20 consecutive Big Ten series.&nbsp;

Samantha Bland and Kacie Hoffmann each had three hits, and Bland added a home run. Jordyn Bahl and Ava Kuszak both had two hits and two RBIs with a home run. Olivia DiNardo contributed two RBIs.

Kylee Magee (5-3) claimed the win in the circle after pitching 5.0 innings for a complete game. She allowed one run on only three hits and struck out four batters. Riley Grudzielanek (8-8) took the loss for Northwestern.&nbsp;

Huskers claim Series with second consecutive Run-Rule

Lincoln, NE - The home of Nebraska Volleyball will now officially bear the name of one of the legendary coaches in the history of the sport, as the University of Nebraska Board of Regents on Friday approved the naming of John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Cook retired in January following a remarkable 25-year run as the Huskers’ head coach. He guided the Huskers to four national championships, 12 NCAA Semifinal appearances and 14 conference championships. Cook achieved a career record of 883-176 (.834), the fifth-best winning percentage all-time for a Division I volleyball coach. His record of 722-103 at Nebraska is the best winning percentage (.875) for any DI program over the last 25 years.

The success of Nebraska Volleyball under Cook extended off the court to record-setting attendance. Since moving home matches to the Devaney Center in 2013, Nebraska has led the nation in attendance every season in the 8,309-seat venue which will now be named to honor Cook’s accomplishments.

In addition to the naming of John Cook Arena, the project also includes a bronze statue honoring Cook on the north side of the Devaney Sports Center. Nationally recognized sculpture artist and Nebraska native George Lundeen has been commissioned to produce the life-size tribute to Cook and his career.

“John’s success as the leader of our volleyball program is unmatched,” Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said. “His impact goes beyond what his teams accomplished on the court, from our athletic department, our university, community and state of Nebraska. To recognize John in a manner that will be visible for generations to come is a fitting honor.”

The court inside John Cook Arena will continue to hold the name of Terry Pettit Court to recognize Cook’s predecessor and fellow Hall of Famer. Additionally, the full athletics complex will continue to be named the Bob Devaney Sports Center in honor of Nebraska Hall of Fame football coach and long-time athletic director Bob Devaney.

"This is an incredible honor. I am truly humbled by all of it,” Cook said. “I am so grateful to Troy, the entire Nebraska administration and the Board of Regents for this recognition. The Bob Devaney Sports Center and Terry Pettit Court are named after two legendary coaches, and it's an honor to be able to share the name of the facility with them. The first-place Supernovas (16-5) are set to defend its title in Vegas for the PVF Semifinals on Friday, May 9 before the Championship “Match for a Million” on Sunday, May 11 back at Lee’s Family Forum. The semifinals are set for 7 p.m. CDT between the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds with the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds to follow at 9:30 p.m. CDT. The two semifinal winners will play at 3 p.m. CDT on Sunday. Both semifinal matches and the championship will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.&nbsp;

Payne was nearly unstoppable for most of the evening, tallying a PVF career-high 27 points on 22 kills with a .396 hitting percentage, 11 digs, four blocks and one ace. Outside hitter&nbsp;Brooke Nuneviller&nbsp;started slow for Omaha, but turned it up late to finish with 13 kills, 12 digs and one block to be one of four Supernovas with a double-double.&nbsp;Ally Batenhorst&nbsp;joined that quartet with 12 kills, 10 digs and one ace.&nbsp;

Middle blocker&nbsp;Kayla Caffey&nbsp;slammed down five kills on a .300 clip with four blocks.&nbsp;Kaitlyn Hord&nbsp;chipped in two kills, but added three blocks to move her league-leading total to 70 on the season, matching the PVF single-season record of former Supernova&nbsp;Hristina Vuchkova.&nbsp;

The Supernovas hit .274 as a squad with 13 blocks and five aces. Omaha’s defense limited Vegas to a .155 team clip while the Thrill posted seven blocks and five aces.&nbsp;

The high-flying Hannah Maddux recorded a team-best 21 kills, 10 digs and two blocks to nearly keep up with Payne. 2025 PVF All-Star Adora Anae hammered 11 kills and 13 digs in her Thrill debut while passing for a match-high 86% positive rate on 22 receptions.&nbsp;

Set 1:&nbsp;Payne started the match with a block while Kayla put away an overpass to give the Supernovas a quick 3-1 out of the gate. Hord jumpstarted a 3-0 run behind back-to-back stuffs from the league’s block leader for an 8-5 Supernovas lead. Anae and Willow Johnson hammered back-to-back kills to cut the deficit to one. Hord terminated on a middle set and Caffey followed with another block for a three-point Omaha edge. Leading 13-10 after Caffey and Maddux traded kills, the Supernovas rallied for a 3-0 run behind two kills from Batenhorst and one from Payne for a 16-11 lead. A service error ended the run, but Payne sided out for Omaha with a kill. Camryn Hannah sneaked one by the Supernovas defense, but Payne and Nuneviller swatted back-to-back kills to force a Thrill timeout at 20-14.&nbsp;Lindsay Krause&nbsp;came in and served dimes off the bench, securing her second ace of the year before forcing an overpass kill for Payne as Vegas called another timeout at 22-14 Omaha. Maddux and Carly Graham posted a pair of kills, but a Hannah hitting error secured a 25-17 set win for the Supernovas.&nbsp;

The Omaha offense went off for a .323 hitting percentage while posting five blocks and the one ace from Krause. Payne earned a team-high six kills on a .600 clip while Hord and Caffey each had two blocks. Vegas had 10 hitting errors en route to a .054 hitting percentage in the set. Maddux slammed down a team-leading six kills while the Thrill had one block and no aces.&nbsp;

Set 2:&nbsp;Maddux got the Thrill going early with a pair of kills, plus a Johnson tally for a 3-1 Vegas advantage. Payne responded with another kill, but a Maddux swing and Omaha hitting error extended the Thrill edge to three. But then Vegas committed a pair of errors before Batenhorst tied the set at five with a kill. Anae made her presence felt with two swings finding the floor to send the set into a media timeout with an 8-7 Thrill lead. Maddux and Carly Graham posted a pair of kills, but a Hannah hitting error secured a 25-17 set win for the Supernovas.&nbsp;The Omaha offense went off for a .323 hitting percentage while posting five blocks and the one ace from Krause. Payne earned a team-high six kills on a .600 clip while Hord and Caffey each had two blocks. Vegas had 10 hitting errors en route to a .054 hitting percentage in the set. Maddux slammed down a team-leading six kills while the Thrill had one block and no aces.&nbsp;Set 2:&nbsp;Maddux got the Thrill going early with a pair of kills, plus a Johnson tally for a 3-1 Vegas advantage. Payne responded with another kill, but a Maddux swing and Omaha hitting error extended the Thrill edge to three. But then Vegas committed a pair of errors before Batenhorst tied the set at five with a kill. Anae made her presence felt with two swings finding the floor to send the set into a media timeout with an 8-7 Thrill lead. Payne terminated on another swing to tie the set before Caffey came up with a block to give the Supernovas a 10-9 advantage. The Thrill recorded back-to-back points, but a Payne block ignited a 6-0 run as Nuneviller tallied three consecutive kills to establish a 16-11 Omaha lead. Johnson ended the run with a kill down the line before Graham served an ace off Batenhorst to give the Thrill a burst of momentum. Payne flew from the right side for a kill to keep the lead at four. Graham split the defense with a setter dump while Luper followed with an off speed kill to cut the Supernovas lead to two. Batenhorst answered with back-to-back kills for a 20-16 Omaha lead to force a Thrill timeout. Valentín-Anderson stamped the lead with an ace out of the break before Batenhorst added on with a kill. The run ended at five as Anae sided out for the Thrill. Hord gave Omaha set point with a middle attack, but Vegas strung together a trio of points before Payne ended the set with her 13th kill for a 25-20 win for the Supernovas.&nbsp;The Omaha offense hit even better in the second set with a .406 hitting percentage and adding two blocks and one ace. Payne paced the Supernovas attack with seven kills on 10 swings for a .700 clip. Batenhorst recorded four kills (.444) with Nuneviller chipping in three. Vegas hit .205 with two aces, but had zero blocks. It was a balanced attack for the Thrill with Maddux posting a team-high four kills while Johnson and Anae each had three.&nbsp;Set 3:&nbsp;Former Supernovas middle blocker&nbsp;Sophie Davis&nbsp;started the set off with a kill, but Caffey tied the score by dropping in a ball into the campfire. Payne followed with an ace for Omaha to grab the lead. Berkeley Oblad posted only the second block for Vegas, but Payne followed with a kill by nicking a Thrill finger to tie the set again. Oblad terminated a ball off the slide before an Omaha setting error gave Vegas a 5-3 edge. Caffey sided out with a kill. Valentín-Anderson fooled the defense with a setter dump, but a 3-0 run for the Thrill — which included a Johnson kill — put the lead at 9-5 Vegas. Payne stuffed a Thrill attack and Nuneviller capped a 3-0 run with consecutive kills to tie the set again. The Thrill regained the momentum off two Omaha errors, a Maddux block and Anae kill to go ahead 16-12 into the media timeout. An Alisha Glass Childress block extended the run to five, but Nuneviller sided out with a kill. Batenhorst roofed a Thrill attack before ending a long rally with a kill to force a Thrill timeout at 17-15. Maddux stopped the Supernovas run with a kill, but Batenhorst snuck in a tough angle ball for a point. Krause followed with her second ace of the night to get Omaha within one again. Payne and Nuneviller terminated on swings as the two teams traded points in the red zone, but back-to-back kills from Maddux gave the Thrill set point. Glass Childress ended the set with a kill for a 25-22 Vegas win.&nbsp;The Supernovas offense struggled to a .163 hitting percentage with four blocks and two aces. Nuneviller led Omaha with four kills while Payne and Batenhorst each tallied three. The Thrill hit .244 in the set with four blocks and one ace. Maddux and Anae hammered a team-leading four kills.&nbsp;Set 4:&nbsp;Batenhorst gave Omaha a positive start to the set by tooling the block. Valentín-Anderson aced Maddux before Hord earned her third block of the night to give the Supernovas a 3-0 lead early. Davis took advantage of some Omaha confusion in serve receive to get her second ace, but Nuneviller kept the lead at two with a pair of kills. A batch of errors followed both teams, but two hitting mistakes from the Thrill opened up an 8-5 Supernovas lead going into the first media timeout. A trio of hitting errors followed Omaha out of the break to tie the set before Davis and Maddux recorded consecutive kills to give Vegas an 11-9 edge. Valentín-Anderson ended the 5-0 run with a kill, but two more points by the Thrill extended the advantage to three. Payne dropped a shot in the back corner. Maddux responded with another tally and then Johnson delivered an ace to force a Supernovas timeout at 15-11. Payne found the floor out of the timeout before Anae quickly sent the action to the second media timeout with a kill to give Vegas a 16-12 advantage. Oblad narrowly missed a serve, which jumpstarted a 3-0 run for the Supernovas as Caffey stuffed an attack before Batenhorst slammed down a kill to cut the Thrill lead to 17-16. Payne slammed down another kill and a Vegas error tied the set at 19. Maddux and Johnson stepped up for the Thrill to break the tie with back-to-back points, but Payne answered with consecutive kills of her own to equal the score. A Vegas hitting error forced a timeout at 22-21 Omaha, but the Thrill clawed back using a Maddux kill and block to retake the lead at 23-22. Nuneviller took charge in crunch time for the Supernovas with two kills in a row to give Omaha set point, but Maddux responded with a kill to send the set into extra points tied at 24. Anae sent her next swing wide with Nuneviller ending the match with her 13th kill to give the Supernovas a 26-24 set win and their spot in the postseason.&nbsp;Omaha hit .250 in the fourth with two blocks and one ace. Payne (6 kills) and Nuneviller (5 kills) combined for 11 of the team’s 15 kills in the set. Vegas limped to a .103 team clip with eight hitting errors compared to 12 kills. The Thrill had two blocks and two aces in the set as Maddux was responsible for seven kills.&nbsp;

The No. 21 Nebraska softball team blasted three home runs to bring its season total to a program-record 79 homers and downed the Creighton Bluejays, 8-2, on Wednesday night at Bowlin Stadium.

The Huskers (29-10, 8-3 Big Ten) came into the game tied for first on the program home run charts. Samantha Bland, who tied the school record with three home runs in last Saturday’s game at Iowa, knocked a homer in the bottom of the second to secure the record. Ava Bredwell and Ava Kuszak followed with back-to-back homers in the bottom of the fifth.&nbsp;

Bland was a solid 3-for-4 on the day. Kacie Hoffman went 2-for-4 with a career-high two doubles and Kuszak was 2-for-2 with a home run and a double.&nbsp;

Jordyn Bahl (16-4) claimed the win in the circle for the Big Red. She tossed 6.0 innings and allowed only one run while striking out eight batters. Hannah Camenzind threw the final inning and allowed one run. Abby Rusher (1-2) took the loss for the Bluejays (15-20, 5-7 Big East).&nbsp;

The Huskers got on the board in the bottom of the first. H. Camenzind was hit by a pitch and scored on a Hoffmann double. Emmerson Cope singled to send Hoffmann across the plate and give NU a 2-0 lead.

Kuszak doubled to kick off the bottom of the second and crossed the plate on a Lauren Camenzind single. Bahl singled and advanced L. Camenzind to second, and Bland blasted a three-run homer – which put the team at a program-record 77 home runs on the season – to grab a 6-0 lead.

Creighton made the score 6-1 in the top of the fifth on a solo homer.

In the bottom of the fifth, Bredwell and Kuszak knocked back-to-back home runs to extend the lead to 8-1.

The Bluejays sent in a run on an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn’t enough, and the Big Red locked up the 8-2 victory.

The Huskers will head to Evanston, Ill., to take on the Northwestern Wildcats from April 12-14. Saturday’s game is set for 2 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+. The game can also be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.&nbsp;
