Marjorie “Marje” A. Riley, 93, of North Platte, NE passed away on May 1, 2024 at Linden Court. She was born to Bernice (Lincoln) and Cline Vernon Eyestone on November 2, 1930 at Elbing, KS.&nbsp;

She grew up in Wichita, KS and went to Wichita High School where she graduated as valedictorian. Marje graduated from Colorado Women’s College and then went to CSU where she met her future husband, William Riley. They were married August 2, 1951 in Mitchell, NE. &nbsp;William served in the military and the couple ended up in Baltimore, MD. &nbsp;After the military they went to Limon, CO where they were on the family ranch. They moved to North Platte, NE in 1963 where they opened E &amp; R Automotive Supply. Marje worked for Town and Country Realtors for many years as a broker. &nbsp;She will be remembered for her excellent cooking and entertaining.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three children: Cody (Carrie) Riley of Loveland, CO, Bret Riley of North Platte, NE and Lindee (J.P.) Doyle of North Platte, NE; grandchildren, Tyler Riley of Lake McConaughy, NE, Travis (Patience) Riley of North Platte, NE, Austin (Hannah) Doyle of Hickman, Carolina Riley of Loveland, CO; great grandchildren, Oliver, Radley, Bexley and Banks; sister in laws, Kay Eyestone and Sunika Bergland both of North Platte, NE and many other family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband; brother, Frand Eyestone; and sister, Rosalee Ashenfelter.

Graveside services will be held at a later date Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell. Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements. &nbsp;Memorials may be made to the North Platte Catholic School Endowment.&nbsp;

Ashley Marie Pankonin, 44, of Grant, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2024, in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Ashley was born on January 6, 1980, in Ogallala, Nebraska to Charles and Barb (Schulz) Pankonin. She graduated in 1998 from Grant High School, where she loved playing basketball for Coach Richard Thurin, along with playing volleyball.

Growing up, she loved riding the horses on the family farm and won numerous ribbons at horse shows. She enjoyed working with her family with their traveling Funny Farm Petting Zoo. She was also quite the roofer with the roofing business owned by Barb, her mother, and Chris Leach.

After high school, she attended Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and continued her education at Metro Community College in Omaha and the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Following her education, Ashley strived to help underprivileged individuals and families, becoming a family advocate and later a director of Voices for Families. She was also appointed by the governor to serve on the State Advisory Committee on Mental Health Services. She also enjoyed working for other individuals and businesses, most recently for her uncle Todd at ASAP Construction.

Known for her kind and caring nature, Ashley dedicated herself to caring for her mom during her illness until Barb passed away in 2022. This love and devotion made it difficult for Ashley to reconcile her mother's death.

Ashley's personality was as radiant as her red hair. Her infectious laughter and distinctive dimples had the power to brighten any room she entered, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends alike.

Ashley was preceded in death by her mother, Barb Schulz; her grandparents, Vic and Hulda Pankonin, Carl and Alma Schulz; and uncles, Dan Schulz and Galen Pankonin.

Ashley is survived by her father, Charlie (Sally) Pankonin of Ogallala; bonus dad, Chris Leach of Ogallala; sister, Mandi Pankonin; brother, Zachary Pankonin; nephew, Naz Pankonin, all of Grant; niece Kyah ("T") Jangulo; great niece, Daudi and great nephew, DhaKari, all of North Platte.

She also leaves behind her aunts and uncles, Gilbert Pankonin of Temecula, California, Alvin (Lucretia Johnson) Pankonin of Madrid, Russell (Lori) Pankonin of Imperial, Kathryn Fattig of Grant, Judy (Gene) Dickinson of Sidney, Todd (Courtney) Schulz of Ogallala, and Joyce Schulz of Brule, along with many other relatives and friends.

Tom was proceeded in death by his wife Gloria, survived by sons, Aaron (Tracy) Bartek, Ethan Bartek, Jesse (Bambi) Bartek, and Ben (Samantha) Bartek, 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, brothers John “Jack” Bartek and Methodius “Matt” Bartek, sister, Phyllis Montello and many nieces and nephews. Tom chose his body to be Anatomically donated to science for study at Creighton University.

Tom Bartek was the oldest son of Methodius “Matt” and Phyllis Bartek. He was an Air Force Veteran, having served during the Korean War. Tom married his high school sweetheart, Gloria McIlvenna, celebrating over 50 years together.&nbsp;

Tom was an artist! He created acrylic paintings, assemblages, sculptures, and over 115 editions of serigraphs.&nbsp; He meticulously incorporated drawing, painting, and multiple exposure photography into his art. He exhibited widely throughout the country and culminated in a 3-venue retrospective in 2012.

Tom was deeply influenced by Thoreau and his boyhood summers on the Saunders County farm, using nature as an inspiration. Being a very involved hands-on father, he took his boys for walks, hikes, camping, and exploring. His sons all truly enjoy being outdoors and experiencing nature’s beauty and have passed this on to their children and grandchildren.&nbsp; He was an animal lover. He always had a dog as his trusted companion, often featuring them in his art.

Tom was a kind and generous man of faith. He lived a blessed and fruitful life full of many great friendships and a loving family. He was intelligent and had an eclectic sense of humor. He and Gloria were very non-traditional, they fought for Civil Rights, Feminism, and Racial Equality, influencing their family for many generations to follow. &nbsp;His sons rallied around him in his final years, Ethan made many sacrifices, and he moved in with him, providing comfort, love, and dignity until his final breath.&nbsp; Tom was deeply loved and will be forever missed.

Thomas J. Bartek (Age 91)

Betty Ruth (Lichtenberger) Sergun, age 95 of Arnold, died May 3, 2024, at the Callaway Good Life Center on her 95th&nbsp;birthday. What a great gift for her to see her Lord and Savior and her husband Al.

Betty was born May 3, 1929, in Callaway, NE to Roy and Alma Lichtenberger. &nbsp;She was the eldest of five children. &nbsp;She told stories of living near the river and swimming with her siblings. &nbsp;

Betty attended Callaway Schools and graduated from Callaway High School. &nbsp;After her graduation, she taught country school for two years. &nbsp;In 1949, Betty married Albert Sergun. &nbsp;To this union two sons, Danny and David, and one daughter, Ruth, were born. &nbsp;Betty and Al farmed for many years. &nbsp;Betty kept busy raising chickens and planting a large garden. &nbsp;Betty sold the eggs to Watson Grocery Store in Arnold. &nbsp;Betty always claimed that the egg money paid for all the groceries, and all the doctor bills after each child was born. &nbsp;

Al and Betty sold the farm in 1982 and moved to Arnold. &nbsp;Betty kept gardening and raising flowers. &nbsp;She also started cleaning homes and enjoyed talking with her clients. &nbsp;Betty and Al were very active in the Arnold Baptist Church. &nbsp;They taught Sunday School class and had a weekly Bible study in their home. &nbsp;Al passed in 1994. &nbsp;Betty continued to make her home in Arnold. &nbsp;Betty moved to the Callaway Good Life Center after breaking her hip. &nbsp;You could always count on Betty reading when you went to visit, and her favorite book was the Bible. &nbsp;

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Al, her two sons, Danny, and David, two sisters, one brother, and her parents. &nbsp;

Those left to mourn her death are her daughter Ruth, two grandsons Edward and Charles, two great granddaughters Anna and Ivy, and a sister Shirley. &nbsp;

Lynn "Sticky" Stockall was born March 6, 1947, to Robert and Marie Stockall in North Platte where he resided all his life. &nbsp;Lynn, a sports enthusiast, business owner, and community supporter, passed away on May 2, 2024.&nbsp;

He attended North Platte schools and graduated from NPPS, earned his Boy Scout Eagle Award, and went on to graduate from Mid Plains Community College. &nbsp;

Lynn was passionate about all sports, especially fishing, hunting and youth baseball. &nbsp;He went to work at Young's Sporting Goods while still in high school and was a longtime, devoted employee (clients often sought out Lynn's vast sports expertise to guide them) and he served as student manager of the men's basketball team while in college.

Lynn, often with his tobacco pipe and that familiar smell, spent many mornings in the duck blind or the Sandhills fishing lakes with friends. &nbsp;Lynn could always be found at the Legion Baseball Field where he devoted much of his free time helping wherever needed and he worked with the Legion Baseball program as often as he could.

Lynn's servitude was also witnessed in his membership and leadership positions of the Eagles, Moose Lodge and Ducks Unlimited. &nbsp;His dream to operate his own gun store came true when he opened River Valley Gun Gallery in 2013. &nbsp;He devoted these past years sharing his great knowledge of guns and gun safety with anyone who came through the door. &nbsp;

Lynn leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment to the youth of North Platte.

He is survived by his brother, Roger Stockall (Sandy) of North Platte; sister, Linda Morrison of Omaha; sister-in-law, Vicky Stockall of Aurora, CO; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. &nbsp;

Lynn was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents, Robert and Marie; brother, Mike Stockall; and brother-in-law, Howard Morrison.

Lynn Stockall (1947-2024)

Nina Maxine Hallett was born September 28, 1922, to Myrtle Helen Hallett (Finch) and Charles Martin Hallett on a farm one mile east of Enders, Nebraska. The family moved to a farm two miles south of Enders in 1929. Nina attended grade school at Enders School. She graduated from Chase County High School in 1940. After graduation, Nina taught her first year of teaching in Arthur County, Nebraska. Then she returned to Chase County and taught Prairie Gem School in 1942-43. She taught District 2 -2 years, Dist. 8- one year, Dist. 1- 2 years, Dist. 4- 2 years, Dist. 1- (again) 3 years, Lamar School – 2 years, District 66 – 12 years. Then she taught at Chase County High School 17 ½ years – and retired in the spring of 1985 – having taught a total of 43 ½ consecutive years.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Nina received the Degree of Associate in Arts from McCook College in June, 1950. She received the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Education from Chadron State College on July 25, 1962. She received the Degree of Master of Science Education from Chadron State College on August 10, 1967.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Nina thoroughly enjoyed her years of teaching and relished many memories of former students and incidents, some were invigorating, others were somber. &nbsp;After retirement Nina enjoyed her home life, gardening, lawn work, flower beds, house remodeling, and various other activities.

&nbsp;Nina’s hobbies were piano and organ playing. She loved to do needle work, especially needlepoint and finished and framed many beautiful pieces of her work, using them for house décor.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Nina found Jesus as her Savior in the year 1940. She lived a life that exemplified the change Jesus wrought in her life. She taught Sunday School classes for many years, a task she thoroughly enjoyed.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Nina was devoted to her family whom she loved dearly. She cared for her mother until her mother’s death. She cared for her sister, Marjorie, and her brother, Charles, until the time of their deaths.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her father, mother, 3 half brothers Roy, Welman, and Paul Ouderkirk, her sister Marjorie Hallett, her brother Charles Hallett, and her youngest sister Delores Grosvenor (94 years old) of Caldwell, Idaho.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She is survived by her nephew Bob Stumbaugh, niece Eileen Schoonover and husband Mick, all of Caldwell, Idaho; Loretta Moyer and husband Lance of Ketchican, Alaska, and several great nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. (MT) Friday, May 10, 2024 with visitation one hour prior to services at God’s Missionary Church in Wauneta, NE with pastor Gary Hunt officiating. &nbsp;Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Imperial, NE. &nbsp;

 </figure>Nina Maxine Hallett was born September 28, 1922, to Myrtle Helen Hallett (Finch) and Charles Martin Hallett on a farm one mile east of Enders, Nebraska. The family moved to a farm two miles south of Enders in 1929. Nina attended grade school at Enders School. She graduated from Chase County High School in 1940. After graduation, Nina taught her first year of teaching in Arthur County, Nebraska. Then she returned to Chase County and taught Prairie Gem School in 1942-43. She taught District 2 -2 years, Dist. 8- one year, Dist. 1- 2 years, Dist. 4- 2 years, Dist. 1- (again) 3 years, Lamar School – 2 years, District 66 – 12 years. Then she taught at Chase County High School 17 ½ years – and retired in the spring of 1985 – having taught a total of 43 ½ consecutive years.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Nina received the Degree of Associate in Arts from McCook College in June, 1950. She received the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Education from Chadron State College on July 25, 1962. She received the Degree of Master of Science Education from Chadron State College on August 10, 1967.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Nina thoroughly enjoyed her years of teaching and relished many memories of former students and incidents, some were invigorating, others were somber. &nbsp;After retirement Nina enjoyed her home life, gardening, lawn work, flower beds, house remodeling, and various other activities.&nbsp;Nina’s hobbies were piano and organ playing. She loved to do needle work, especially needlepoint and finished and framed many beautiful pieces of her work, using them for house décor.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Nina found Jesus as her Savior in the year 1940. She lived a life that exemplified the change Jesus wrought in her life. She taught Sunday School classes for many years, a task she thoroughly enjoyed.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Nina was devoted to her family whom she loved dearly. Nina Maxine Hallett (1922-2024)

Gloria Jean (Eng) Smith, age 79 of Merna, NE passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2nd at the Callaway District Hospital, in Callaway, NE surrounded by her loved ones.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 6th, at Govier Brothers Mortuary, at 10:30 am, burial will be in the Merna Cemetery. A lunch will follow the services at the Merna Community Center. Govier Brothers is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Anselmo-Merna Athletic Department. A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 5th, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with family greeting friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Govier Brothers in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Gloria was born on October 2nd, 1944, to Georg and Minnie (Schomburg) Eng in Seward, Nebraska. Georg &amp; Minnie moved to Merna when Gloria was very young, establishing Eng’s Tavern. Georg &amp; Minnie later welcomed daughter, Connie, and son, Gary. Gloria attended Merna Schools.&nbsp;

On February 12, 1967, Gloria was united in marriage to Danny Smith. To this union 4 children were born: Cynthia, Devin, Stephanie, and Dustin. Danny &amp; Gloria lived in various places in Nebraska moving to North Platte in 1971, to Gering in 1979, and returning to Merna in 1984.&nbsp;

Gloria was once a volunteer at the hospital in Scottsbluff, a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Gering, the Merna Lutheran Church, and a charter member of the Mixin' Mamas. Gloria enjoyed crafting, sewing, collecting LARGE rocks, and floral arranging. Gloria was very passionate about supporting any sport that her children or grandchildren participated in, traveling and attending many games around the country. She was most likely the loudest fan in the crowd!&nbsp;

Gloria worked several times at Becton-Dickenson over the years and was a homemaker, wife, and mother.&nbsp;

Gloria is survived by her husband of 57 years, Danny Smith of Merna, children Cynthia (Bobby Myers)Huhman, of Merna, Devin (Michelle) Smith of Seward, NE Stephanie McIntosh of Broken Bow, Dustin (Keri) Smith of Utah, and daughter-in-law Nancy Smith of Edgemont, SD. Also, grandchildren; Ryan (JaLisa) Province, Brittany (Zach McAlevy) Province, Reece Huhman, Bethany Huhman, Timmy Myers, Elijah (Kara) Smith, Addison Smith, Jacob McIntosh, Georgiee &amp; Graciee Smith, Brandon Smith, Kara Smith, 3 great-grandchildren; Ryker Province, Delilah Toof, and Alayna McAlevy, brother, Gary (Lisa) Eng, and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.&nbsp;

Gloria Smith (1944-2024)

Donald Glen Poe passed from this life on November 2, 2023 at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial, NE. Don was born in Holyoke, CO during a blizzard on January 14, 1931 to Glen and Della Walgren Poe. He graduated from Amitie School, Phillips County High School (1949) and Northeastern Junior College (1951). He and Esther Douglass were married in Holyoke on March 14, 1953. For the first few years of marriage, Don worked road construction around Colorado, including building the Valley Highway through Denver, and drove semi-trucks for Harms Brothers out of Fleming hauling grain across the entire Midwest. In 1957, Don and Esther took over operation of, and raised their children on, the family farm southeast of Holyoke that was homesteaded by Don’s great-grandparents in the 1890s. They farmed dryland and ran Hereford cattle, along with hogs and sheep on occasion. During the summers, Don drove trucks for Harms Brothers, Wendell Ahnstedt, James Scholl, Bob Davis and others to supplement the farm income. In 1976, they put in irrigation sprinklers, and Don and his son Mike committed to farming and ranching full-time.

Despite a childhood injury that left him with only one fully functioning hand, Don was a very hard worker. People often commented that he accomplished more with one hand than most people could with two. He rarely purchased new farm equipment, preferring to buy used machinery that he could cut up then weld together into the implement that worked the way he wanted. He was the perfect father for his children Patti and Mike, playing games, building toys, and teaching them to do farm chores, ride horses and drive tractors and farm trucks from the age of 3. He supported them through many years of 4-H, FFA and a variety of school activities. Don felt sorry for kids who had to live in town, and over the years, several sets of parents left their children with Don to let them experience the freedom and responsibility of living on a farm. His grandchildren remember him rescuing trapped baby kittens and teaching them all about the farm. He was active in Phillips County and Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, state and local politics, and the Pleasant Valley Ballpark. He was an early member, and current member, of the Sandhills Volunteer Fire Department and was always ready to lend a hand or tools or supplies when a friend or neighbor was in need.

Don is survived by his son Mike, daughter Patti, son-in-law Barry Logan, and grandchildren Brian and Holly Logan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dean and wife Esther.

A celebration of life for both Don and Esther will be held on Sunday, May 12th at the Champion Community Building in Champion, NE from 11:00 am to noon (mountain time).

 In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Chase County Hospital Foundation, or Chase County Museum.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Donald Glen Poe (1931-2023)

God called one of His angels home, for He knew her work on earth was done; now, her beautiful wings will shine brighter than the sun.

Our loving mother, Deborah Ann "Debbie" Santee, passed away on May 2, 2024, in North Platte, NE, at the age of 62. &nbsp;She was the heart and soul of our family. The unconditional love she had for her family now extends through generations.

Debbie was born February 23, 1962, in Wheatridge, CO, to Jim and Katy Storm. &nbsp;She had many wonderful memories growing up in Colorado with her parents and four siblings: Michael, Dave, Catt and Craig.

Debbie married her best friend Jerry Santee in 1979 and together they raised three wonderful children: Theresa, Melanie and Jamie. &nbsp;Each one brought her endless joy and laughter. &nbsp;She later became a doting grandmother who loved nothing more than spoiling her 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Debbie was the most wonderful homemaker and could make any space feel like home. Her favorite hobby was decorating for the holidays and making it so very special for her family. Debbie had such a love for music; you could always find her jamming to her favorite songs and playing her guitar and keyboard. She also had a love of gardening, shopping, baking and traveling. &nbsp;Debbie and Jerry loved traveling to Nashville, TN, where they attended the Grand Ole Opry several times, making many wonderful memories together. &nbsp;

Our mother will be remembered for her love of laughter, generosity and her compassionate heart. She had so much love in her heart to give that it extended to all God's creatures. Debbie was the most supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will forever be remembered as "Super Nana" and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.&nbsp;

Debbie was proceeded in death by her parents, Katy and Jim Storm; brothers, Michael and Dave Peters; and her most beloved dog, Peaches.&nbsp;

She leaves behind her beloved husband, Jerry of Sutherland, and their daughters, Theresa Bunting (Ivory), Melanie Santee (Mohammed), and Jamie Sosa (Nick); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her siblings, Catt Davies (Jeff) and Craig Storm; and many others who she loved like her own.

Debbie Santee (1962-2024)

Sandra Elizabeth Nelson was born May 27, 1937, in Wray, Colorado to John and Hilda (Mahoney) Vibber and departed this life on April 29, 2024, at the South Haven Living Center in Wahoo, Nebraska. &nbsp;She was 86 years old.

Sandra was united in marriage to Bernard Nelson in Raton, New Mexico, on April 6, 1955. &nbsp; They had one child, Jerry Lee. &nbsp; They resided on the Nelson family farm for 66 years. During many of those years she worked side by side with her husband, farming, driving truck and tending to the cattle. &nbsp;In 2021, they sold the farm and moved to Imperial, Nebraska.

Sandra had many talents. &nbsp;She was a seamstress and made many of her own clothes. &nbsp;She loved to quilt and was a member of the Crazy Quilters Quilt Guild. &nbsp; Many of her beautiful quilted creations have been handed down to family. &nbsp;She in later years took up knitting and made many prayer shawls for those with illnesses. &nbsp;She also made many lap blankets and baby blankets for friends and family. &nbsp;She was a member and very active in the United Methodist Church.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard; her son, Jerry; sisters Maxine Reckard and Dawala Hansen; and brothers, Larry Vibber and Jerry Vibber.&nbsp;

Survivors include: daughter-in-law, Debra Nelson (Randy) Crist of Ceresco, Nebraska; grandson, Zachary (Marian) Nelson of San Diego, California and granddaughter, Alyson Nelson of Wahoo, Nebraska; 3 great-grandchildren; Serenity Ray and Raelyn Nelson of Wahoo, Nebraska and Ilana Nelson of San Diego, California; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, May 17, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Imperial, Nebraska with Pastor Loy officiating. &nbsp; Inurnment followed at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.

&nbsp;Memorial, in Sandra’s Memory, has been suggested to the Donor’s Choice.

During many of those years she worked side by side with her husband, farming, driving truck and tending to the cattle. &nbsp;In 2021, they sold the farm and moved to Imperial, Nebraska.Sandra had many talents. &nbsp;She was a seamstress and made many of her own clothes. &nbsp;She loved to quilt and was a member of the Crazy Quilters Quilt Guild. &nbsp; Many of her beautiful quilted creations have been handed down to family. &nbsp;She in later years took up knitting and made many prayer shawls for those with illnesses. &nbsp;She also made many lap blankets and baby blankets for friends and family. &nbsp;She was a member and very active in the United Methodist Church.Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard; her son, Jerry; sisters Maxine Reckard and Dawala Hansen; and brothers, Larry Vibber and Jerry Vibber.&nbsp;Survivors include: daughter-in-law, Debra Nelson (Randy) Crist of Ceresco, Nebraska; grandson, Zachary (Marian) Nelson of San Diego, California and granddaughter, Alyson Nelson of Wahoo, Nebraska; 3 great-grandchildren; Serenity Ray and Raelyn Nelson of Wahoo, Nebraska and Ilana Nelson of San Diego, California; and many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held Friday morning, May 17, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Imperial, Nebraska with Pastor Loy officiating. &nbsp; Inurnment followed at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.&nbsp;Memorial, in Sandra’s Memory, has been suggested to the Donor’s Choice.

David T. Mullen of Tampa, Florida passed away January 1, 2024 from complications of renal cell carcinoma. &nbsp;

He was born June 7, 1975 to David B. and Jonna L. Mullen in Sacramento, California at Mather AFB Hospital. &nbsp;The family moved to North Platte in September 1975. &nbsp;He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School with the Class of 1994.

David worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, later moving to Austin, Texas and finally Tampa.

Karen (Mawhinney) Buckley, 74, of Arnold, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, in her home. A mother of seven, grandmother of 26, and great-grandmother of 15, Karen leaves behind a large loving family, including her devoted and loving husband of 36 years, Don.&nbsp;

Dwight Alan Hatch, age 80, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2024 at his home, surrounded by family.

Dwight was born on May 16, 1943 in Stratton, Nebraska to Kelham and Mildred Hatch. He will be remembered as a skilled educator, compassionate counselor, and devoted foster parent, who touched countless lives with his compassionate ear and wise counsel. He left an indelible mark on his family and generations of learners.

Dwight cherished spending time with family and friends, and his presence brought joy to all who knew him. He enjoyed family gatherings, expressing his creative outlet in woodworking, camping and fishing, and a love of classic cars and motorcycles. Dwight was always known for his calm demeanor and sage advice. He was the consummate straight man in his 62-year partnership with his wife, Bea. He was the Dean Martin to her Jerry Lewis, the George to her Gracie.

Born with a natural gift for teaching and a heart overflowing with empathy, he brought passion and creativity into the classroom, instilling not only knowledge but a deep sense of curiosity in his students. Beyond the confines of the classroom, Dwight extended his caring nature to serve as a counselor and foster parent, forever changing the trajectory of many lives for the better. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Calvin Wayne Evans, age 92, of Ansley and lifelong resident of Custer County passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at his home. Calvin was born on November 13, 1931, northeast of Broken Bow, NE to Wayne and Maude (Loyd) Evans. Calvin served over 2 years in the Marine Corps. Upon returning home Calvin worked construction for several years. In 1957 he married Frances Hoblyn and to that union, 3 children were born. Wade, Kent, and Tami were raised on their farm northeast of Mason City where they raised cattle, had horses and a wide variety of pets.

&nbsp;Calvin is survived by his wife of 67 years Frances (Hoblyn), two sons, Wade (Susan) Evans of Kearney, Kent (Sue) of Mason City, and a daughter Tami (Jim Boyles) of Mason City; grandchildren Darcie Campbell (Mark), Katie McCarthy (Jake), Janie Evans, and Jade Evans; great-grandchildren Cruz, Ryan, Cameron, Annie, and Cash.

Calvin Evans (1931-2024)

Marilyn Roberta (Talbot) Shinn passed away on April 29, 2024, at the age of 90, at Brookstone View in Broken Bow, Nebraska, surrounded by members of her family.

Marilyn was born January 22, 1934, in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Orin H. and Bertini (Joyner) Talbot. She grew up with three brothers: Charles, Tom, and Ted. Upon Graduation from Broken Bow High School in 1952 (she was voted by her class as “most likely to win the Indianapolis 500”), Marilyn attended the Colorado Women’s College in Denver Colorado and then finished her schooling at the University of Nebraska where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Marilyn taught in the Broken Bow School system for one year before getting married and moving to the Sandhills.

It was on a blind date that Marilyn met the love of her life, Richard F. Shinn. They were married on September 3, 1955, and to that union four boys were born who enjoyed growing up in the Sandhills along the Middle Loup River. She worked side-by-side with Richard in growing their business, Shinn Turkeys, Inc. She was also a great sport and hung right in there with the adventurous boys who never failed to keep her life “interesting.” Her patience was plentiful and so were the stories of their escapades. She should have authored a book.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Orin and Bertini (Joyner) Talbot, brother Charles Talbot, brother Thomas Talbot, great-grandson Marlowe Shinn and several angel great grandbabies.

Jeremy Gene Burnett, age 46 of Merna, NE where he lived with his mother Linda Darlene and stepfather Melvin Runningbear, died April 26, 2024.

Jeremy Gene Burnett was born May 22, 1977, in Callaway, NE to Dennis Paul and Linda Darlene (McAlevy) Burnett. Jeremy was baptized on June 26, 1977, at St. Anselm’s Catholic Church. His First Communion was on May 6, 1985.

Jeremy was raised and attended school in Merna. The family later moved to Berwyn, where Jeremy attended school in Broken Bow, later receiving his GED, then receiving a degree in Welding. Jeremy worked in Construction, building homes for Habitat for Humanity in Grand Island, NE, and then worked as a fabricator at Dewey Welding in Merna. Jeremy was supportive of anyone who needed help.

Jeremy enjoyed 4-H, camping, fishing, hunting, pickup trucks, carpentry work, mechanical work, and cutting wood with his family. Family was important to him. He was proud of his own Black Angus bull and cows.

Jeremy is survived by his mother Linda (stepfather Melvin) Runningbear of Merna, siblings Eric Lane Burnett of Broken Bow, Daniel Paul Burnett of Broken Bow, Terry Allen (Candice) Burnett of Callaway, and Christina Renea (Bill) Baxter of Broken Bow, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jeremy was preceded in death by his father, grandparents Luther &amp; Leona McAlevy, and Floyd &amp; Gladys Burnett.

The family later moved to Berwyn, where Jeremy attended school in Broken Bow, later receiving his GED, then receiving a degree in Welding. Jeremy worked in Construction, building homes for Habitat for Humanity in Grand Island, NE, and then worked as a fabricator at Dewey Welding in Merna. Jeremy was supportive of anyone who needed help.Jeremy enjoyed 4-H, camping, fishing, hunting, pickup trucks, carpentry work, mechanical work, and cutting wood with his family. Family was important to him. He was proud of his own Black Angus bull and cows.Jeremy is survived by his mother Linda (stepfather Melvin) Runningbear of Merna, siblings Eric Lane Burnett of Broken Bow, Daniel Paul Burnett of Broken Bow, Terry Allen (Candice) Burnett of Callaway, and Christina Renea (Bill) Baxter of Broken Bow, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.Jeremy was preceded in death by his father, grandparents Luther &amp; Leona McAlevy, and Floyd &amp; Gladys Burnett.

It is with heavy hearts we announce that Billie Louise Hayes, passed away on April 26, 2024, in North Platte, NE, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and hard work.&nbsp;

Born on September 1, 1960, in Imperial, NE, to Glen and Billie Hayes, Billie's early years were marked by a strong sense of community and dedication to helping others. She graduated from Chase County Schools in 1978 and soon after began her career at Imperial Manor in 1983. Her unwavering commitment to excellence led her to retire as the Environmental Services Supervisor in March after four decades of service.&nbsp;

Billie was not only known for her professional achievements but also for her love of hobbies such as crocheting, gardening, and playing board games and card games with her family. She was a devoted supporter of her loved ones, always ready to lend an ear or offer advice. In addition to her career at Imperial Manor, Billie also served as a volunteer EMT for 41 years and shared her knowledge by teaching EMS classes throughout Southwest Nebraska and the panhandle for over 29 years. &nbsp;Billie was also recently awarded the Imperial Citizen of the Year Award for calendar year 2023 for her outstanding commitment to serving her community throughout her life. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Billie will be dearly missed by her surviving family members: her daughter Sabrina Hayes; brother Jim (Deb) Hayes; sister Tammy (Ben) Villarreal; nephews Armando (Lora) and their children, Jaxsen, Benjamin and Koral, Glen (Crystal) Villarreal and children, Mariska and Braelyn, Tim Wilson, Tyler (Kristina) Neben and their children, Travis, Darin, Jaret and Cort; her niece, Angie (Shane) Ryan and children, Gunner and Berkeley; &nbsp;great nieces, Kristina Pflum and her boyfriend, Kayl Richardson, &nbsp; Alexandria Pflum and her daughter, Heather Barrett; numerous cousins, friends, and members of the Imperial EMS family. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Joe and Danny Hayes; sisters, Dona and Ruth Ann Hayes; and niece Angie Villarreal.

Billie Louise Hayes (1960-2024)

Delmar Dean VanCura, 81 of Ogallala, passed away Monday, April 29th, 2024 at Maples of Centennial in North Platte, NE, surrounded by family. Delmar was born April 19th, 1943 to Henry &amp; Lola (Lee) VanCura. Delmar attended Ogallala Public Schools and was a life long Ogallala resident.

Delmar and Deanna Casey were married in Oshkosh, NE on August 12th, 1969. This marriage continued for the next 53 years. Delmar worked for various employers over the years, including the Hi-Line Co-Op in Grant, City of Ogallala, Best Western, and Walmart all of Ogallala. Delmar enjoyed fishing, garage selling, camping, auctions, gambling with his wife, and most importantly - being Santa.

Delmar is survived by 4 of his children, Daniel VanCura, AJ Reimers, Leanne VanCura, and Lori Watts, 14 Grandchildren, and 26 Great Grandchildren. Delmar is preceded in death by his wife, Deanna VanCura, parents, son, Andrew VanCura, and 1 Grandson.

Delmar Dean VanCura (1943-2024)

Orville Dean Thompson Jr. known as Dean peacefully entered his heavenly home on April 27, 2024, from Indian Hills Manor, Ogallala, NE, where he had been tenderly cared for since October, 2023, when he could no longer live on his beloved ranch of 77 years.

Dean was born on February 15, 1926, to Orville Dean Thompson and Lena F. (Kruger) Thompson and came home to their ranch in McPherson County, joining his older sister Evelyn. The most important event of his life came at 11 years of age when he gave his life to his Lord Jesus and was baptized in Center Valley Lake. He only left the ranches of Arthur and McPherson County for his 18-month service to the nation in the Philippines and Japan during the end of World War II. The second most important event of his life occurred when he married Doris Jean Tiffany on August 24, 1947, and they set out on their life together on the ranch.

Besides ranching, Dean's life was centered on his service to God through the churches of Center Valley and Arthur Baptist Churches and to the surrounding communities. This included short-term mission assignments in Haiti and Bacone College in OK, serving as president of the American Baptist Men of NE and in various other roles within the American Baptist USA denomination, and contributions within the Gideons International. He fulfilled his community duties by serving as County Commissioner and on various school boards and Farm Bureau offices. His greatest ranch enjoyment was haying, and he took great pride in all his building projects throughout the community. Dean's creativity blessed many with his poetry, his book, Ninety Years on Short Grass and Sand, his article writing in the local papers and his woodworking projects.

Dean is survived by his children, Barbara Jean (Pat) Golden Perone; Sandra Deanne (Chuck) John; Brian Dean (Jerri); grandchildren Brian (Karen) Perone; Laura Golden; Thomas (Stacey) Perone; Jennifer (Warren) Mertz; Tiffany (Matthew Quinn) John; Bethanie (Kyle Reinhard) John; Drew Jetter; great-grandchildren Anna Perone, Logan Perone, Colin Perone, and Nathan Perone; sisters-in-law Helen Thompson and Doris Elaine Tiffany; many nieces, nephews and cousins, and scores of friends and neighbors. Orville "Dean" Thompson (1926-2024)

Marilyn&nbsp;Simon&nbsp;Mulligan peacefully passed away at the Sutherland Care Center on April 25, 2024, at the age of 97.

Marilyn was born June 12, 1926, to Francisco and Margarita Reyes in Windsor, CO. &nbsp;She grew up in the Sutherland and Hershey area with her brothers and sisters.

In 1956, Marilyn married Joseph Simon of North Platte and they had two daughters, Lesa and Elaine. &nbsp;After Joe passed away in 1989, she married Billy Mulligan of Hershey in 1992.

Marilyn was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked many years in North Platte for St. Mary's Hospital, Dr. Takenaga, Dr. Nakamura, People's Family Health Services and West Central Nebraska Area Agency on Aging. &nbsp;She was the quintessential care giver.

Along with her first husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Juan-Manuel, Joe, Manual (Inez) Frank (Evangeline), Moses (Pat) and Ralph; sister, Carmen Vieyra; and brothers-in-law, Johnny Vieyra, Vidal Navarro and Roger Peckham.

Marilyn Simon Mulligan (1926-2024)

Eugene Alan Waterman, age 71, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at his home in Ogallala.&nbsp;

Eugene was born July 15, 1952, in Grant, NE to Kenneth and Esteline (Lovenburg) Waterman.&nbsp;

Eugene grew up in Southwest Nebraska and then moved to Fort Morgan, CO in 1969. After graduating from Fort Morgan High School in 1971, he married Dixcie Slade of Bird City, Kansas. Eugene and Dixcie continued living in Fort Morgan where they were blessed with three children; Shana, David, and Michelle.&nbsp;

Eugene moved back to Grant in 1997 where he worked for CO-OP’s in the area driving trucks. He later worked for Flemming Farms driving harvest trucks. In 2000 he met and married Jeannette Kohler.&nbsp;

After retirement, Eugene became an avid pool player achieving a plaque honoring 500 games played in his leagues. Eugene and his team also made it to the finals tournaments in Vegas two different times. Eugene was well known in the area as the “Melon Man” due to his hobby of driving across the plains to the Melon Capitol, bringing back juicy melons for all to enjoy.&nbsp;

Eugene is survived by Shana (Bryan) Martin of Weldona, CO; David (Carole) Waterman of Ogallala; Michelle Waterman (Clifford Joyce) of Jacksonville, FL; Sisters Donna Carey of Brule, Darlene Waterman of Grant, Dianna (Nick) McCleary of Venango, Brother Jim (Amy) Waterman of Windsor, CO; six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Eugene was well known in the area as the “Melon Man” due to his hobby of driving across the plains to the Melon Capitol, bringing back juicy melons for all to enjoy.&nbsp;Eugene is survived by Shana (Bryan) Martin of Weldona, CO; David (Carole) Waterman of Ogallala; Michelle Waterman (Clifford Joyce) of Jacksonville, FL; Sisters Donna Carey of Brule, Darlene Waterman of Grant, Dianna (Nick) McCleary of Venango, Brother Jim (Amy) Waterman of Windsor, CO; six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette in 2020; his parents; one brother, Donald Waterman; and one brother-in-law, Dean Carey.&nbsp;A luncheon for friends and family will be held at the Grant Senior Center, Grant, NE on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Larry Hardy age 83 of Seneca, NE passed away on April 19, 2024, at The Maples at Centennial in North Platte, NE.

Larry Clinton Hardy was born December 26, 1940, in Alliance, NE to Clinton and Gentry (Burton) Hardy. Larry grew up in the Seneca area and attended grade school in Seneca, then attended high school at Thedford High School.

On February 5, 1962, Larry was united in marriage to Nina Ann Murphy in Julesburg, CO. After getting married the couple ranched in the Seneca area, then sold the ranch in the early 80’s. Larry drove truck for many years and had his trucking company Hardy Trucking and did carpentry work with his son Bo as Universal Contractors. The couple lived in various places, Merna, Brady, and Arnold, and in 1996 they returned to Seneca.

Larry’s greatest love was being a musician, he played the guitar and sang. He gave private lessons helping people get started in music. Larry played many benefits and County Fairs, even opening for Lori Morgan and Neil McCoy. Larry played with Roger McGooden in Larry's band Blue Ribbon Country.&nbsp;

Larry is survived by his wife Nina of Seneca, daughter Gennie (Ryan) Smith of Tryon, son Bo Hardy of Seneca, 11 grandchildren Tisha Jo, Tiffany, Eli, Aevyn, Elly, Gabby, Maddox, Amber, Ashley, Joshua, and James, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, son Larry Hardy in 2010, three brothers Burton, Robert, and John, and a grandson Trent Hardy.
