Roger Guggenmos, age 63, died July 30, 2024, in his home in Brewster, NE.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Brewster Community Center in Brewster, NE. Burial will follow in the Brewster Cemetery. &nbsp;Roger Guggenmos was born January 6, 1961, to Walter “Bill” Guggenmos and Ramona (Holmes) in Sargent. His parents, brother, and sister lived on their family ranch in Brewster. Roger graduated from Dunning High School in 1979. He completed some coursework at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Hastings Central Community College. He then dedicated the remainder of his life to working and maintaining the Guggenmos Ranch. Through this partnership, the ranch was later given the title, “Guggenmos River Ranch.” On April 8, 1989, he married Cynthia Rooney of Ojai, California. They met through mutual friends at the 1982 Guggenmos family reunion. They carried on this tradition and hosted several more family reunions at the ranch together. They were married 35 years and had 4 children and 3 granddaughters together.

&nbsp;Roger lived a life of service to the ranch and his community. He served over 40 years as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician for Blaine County. He additionally had served as the Blaine County Commissioner since 2013. He was a member of the Region 26 Council and Mid Planes Behavioral Health Board. Those who knew Roger know that he often went out of his way to help neighbors and animals in need. Roger enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the National Rifleman Association. He had a passion for aviation, enjoyed attending air shows, and owned his own plane which was most often used to serve his community members.

&nbsp;Roger is survived by his wife Cindy; 4 sons: Cody (Roxy) Guggenmos, Cory (Jennie) Guggenmos, Tyler (Sherry) Guggenmos, and Brayden Guggenmos; 2 granddaughters: Nikida Guggenmos and Mazikeen Guggenmos. Roger was preceded by his parents and granddaughter Alayah Guggenmos.&nbsp;

Roger Guggenmos (1961-2024)

Roberta Ann (Ruppert) Werkmeister, age 94, of Palisade, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.&nbsp;

Roberta was born January 11, 1930, at Quick, NE to Clifford and Nellie (Boson) Ruppert. She attended grade school at District 101 which was located across the road from her parents’ home. She then attended high school at Curtis, NE where she lived in a dorm during the week and went home on weekends, a 30 plus mile trip!

Growing up, Roberta was her dad’s “boy”: she worked fields, tended cattle, milked cows, and fed hogs and chickens. After graduating high school, she began teaching rural school immediately. She also attended summer school at Kearney State College where she earned her teaching certificate.

Roberta met Raymond Werkmeister when he brought and picked up his twin sisters Arlene and Darlene from the school where she taught. They started dating within 4-5 months. Their common interest was dancing, and dance they did! Hadley Barrett and Polka Dances were readily attended!

Roberta married Raymond on February 16, 1952 at the Quick Methodist Church. To this union five children were born: Shirley, Melody, Roger, Barbara Joy and Terri.

Roberta raised and sold fryer chickens. In her biggest year, she sold 500. The income helped pay the bills along with the cream and eggs she sold. Roberta continued to teach at country schools until 1962 when the couple moved to the farm south of McCook.

In 1967, Raymond and Roberta purchased a farmstead near Palisade, NE. Roberta worked at Ruppert Locker, Butler Beef Acres, as a janitor for McCook District 8 and a substitute teacher in Palisade and later the Librarian.

Roberta worked for Palisade Coop for many years, retiring at the young age of 86.

In her free time, Roberta drove an ensilage truck, cooked meals during harvest and delivered them to the fields, raised sweet corn and chickens to sell, and helped with irrigation. She also enjoyed baking cinnamon rolls and pies, working crossword puzzles, reading and jigsaw puzzles. Roberta crocheted numerous afghans over the years for friends and family to enjoy. She loved a good card game and did whatever it took to win including not even going easy on the little ones.

Roberta was an avid sports fan. She loved to watch and critique every good pitch, catch, swing, and shot or every missed pitch, catch, swing or shot her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren took as they competed. She played softball while in Kearney attending summer school and enjoyed watching college football, volleyball, baseball and basketball. Her favorite pro sports were baseball, basketball and football.

Roberta was a member of the Palisade UMC, Friendly Neighbor Club, a past member of the Palisade Public Library Board, Eve’s Circle, Pioneer Café Volunteer (Monday Night Pizza) and a 4-H Leader for many years.

Roberta is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant daughter, Barbara Joy; son-in-law, Bill Wilson; sister, Norma Sorge; great grand children, Erik Werkmeister, Austin Herbert and Olivia Herbert.

Roberta is survived by son, Roger (Janet) Werkmeister of McCook, NE; daughters, Shirley (Dennis) Ferguson of Palisade, NE, Melody Herbert of Chadron, NE and Terri Wilson of Palisade, NE; brother, Otis Ruppert of McCook, NE; brother-in-law, Roger (Phyllis) Sorge of Loveland, CO; sisters, Viola Greenlee of Columbia, MO and Shirley (Larry) Schlem of Ogallala, NE; sisters-in-law, Lois Bennett, Arlene Werkmeister and Pat Werkmeister. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Memorials contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made in her name to be designated at a later date.

A memorial service will be held Monday, September 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Palisade United Methodist Church in Palisade, NE with Rev. Jacob Keega, officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in the Palisade Cemetery.

Roberta Ann Werkmeister (1930-2024)

Manford "Al" Thornton, 68, passed away on July 27, 2024, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Al was born December 5, 1955, at Fort Carson, Colorado to Manford O. and Barbara Ann (Link) Thornton. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before studying Theology, Greek, and Hebrew languages at Grace Bible College and Grace University, respectively.

Al's formal studies spilled into a lifelong commitment to the study of the Scriptures and the noble pursuit of honing exegetics based on careful analysis of the original languages of the biblical texts. Al wrote substantially throughout his life, from short novels to personal translations of the Gospels and epistles. At the time of his passing, Al was even working on a website to promulgate his work, aside from the standard means of publication. A cancer diagnosis would hamper his plans, in addition to his health. However, Al's work will find new life in the hands of his family, who intend to see his work to fruition.

Al was preceded in death by his father, Manford O. Thornton.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Thornton, and his sister, Peggy (Gordon) Hayden, all of Chappell, along with several other relatives and friends.

Manfred Alton Thornton (1955-2024)

Deborah Kay Willson Harvey, born to Maxwell and Larena Willson in North Platte, Nebraska, on February 13, 1951, peacefully passed away in Loveland, Colorado, surrounded by her family. Preceding her in death were her parents and three sisters: Jean Humphrey, Betty Humphrey, and Joanne Grady.

Debbie, as she was fondly known, graduated from North Platte High School and later married Frank Aloi. She is survived by her daughter Robyn Drake, her husband Shawn, and grandchildren Frankie, Max, and Rowan; her son Ryan Aloi, his wife Katherine, and grandchildren Cianna, Mateya, and Solomon; and her son Scott Aloi, his wife Natalie Savage, and their children Merrily, Wellan, and Jones.

In 2006, Debbie found love again with Randy Harvey, and together they enjoyed years of travel and companionship until his passing in 2010. Later reconnecting as friends with Frank Aloi, they bonded over family and shared interests in westerns. In 2020, Debbie relocated to Colorado to be closer to family and found companionship with Jim Craddock, enjoying evening walks, dining out in Loveland, and drives in his Mustang convertible. Jim passed away in September 2022.

Debbie's warm smile and love for her family and friends endeared her to many. She was joyfully present at her eldest granddaughter's wedding in September 2023, cherishing every moment with her loved ones.

Debbie's internment will be held at the North Platte cemetery on Monday, August 12th at 9:30am. Immediately following at 10:30am, a Celebration of Life brunch will take place at the Community Playhouse (Canteen room) at 301 E. 5th St, North Platte, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mickey Alan Brunkhorst was born in Imperial, Nebraska on January 10, 1948 to Ansel and Delpha Brunkhorst. Mickey departed this life on July 26, 2024 at the age of 76. Mickey attended school in Wauneta, Nebraska and graduated high school with the class of 1966. Mickey then attended Parks School of Business in Denver, Colorado. Mickey married his high school sweetheart, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Stute on October 15, 1967. To this union two children were born: Kelly and Kimberly.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mickey enlisted into the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mickey and Gwen moved from Colorado back to Wauneta to farm and raise their family. Mickey enjoyed farming and ranching. Mickey was an active member Redeemer Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 304.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mickey was proceeded in death by his parents, infant brothers, Woodrow and Loren and step-father, Floyd Nordhausen.

&nbsp; &nbsp; He leaves to mourn his wife of 56 years, Gwen; son, Kelly (Carey); daughter, Kimberly (Brandon) Kuykendall; brother, Lynn (Rhonda) Brunkhorst; and step-mother, Sandra Brunkhorst; grandchildren: Seth (Emma) Brunkhorst, Alex Brunkhorst, Christien Kuykendall and Jaelyn Kuykendall; great-grandchildren Elliot and Charlie Brunkhorst and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mickey Alan Brunkhorst (1948-2024)

Virginia O. (Woods) Hixon of Grant, NE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Imperial Nursing Home in Imperial, NE, at the age of 101 years. Virginia was born on January 13, 1923, to Guy and Mary Edith (Leetch) Woods in Blue Hill, NE.&nbsp; Virginia was the middle of five children. The family later moved to the Imperial, NE area. She graduated from the Imperial High School.

She met Lloyd Vernon Hixon, the love of her life, in Imperial. Lloyd Vernon (Vern) and Virginia were married on August 27,1940. In this marriage, they were blessed with two children - Shirley (Hixon) Clayton and Lloyd Dean Hixon. Vern and Virginia were involved with farming and cattle for a number of years in the Grant area. Vern and Virginia moved to Grant in 1974. It was then that she worked in the kitchen at the Perkins County Hospital for 20 years. She was also very active in 4-H, the New Life Fellowship Church and an extension club called the Texas Trail.

Virginia was a loving, caring, and faithful woman, and she deeply loved her family. Virginia believed in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as she was a strong Christian woman. She always had a way of finding the good things, even in the hardest of situations. She was always so positive and polite. She loved children and did not know a stranger. Not only was she a wonderful grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt to her family, but she was also considered a grandmother to a lot of people who knew her. She also loved animals, especially her beloved dogs Tiger and Daisy. She loved being outdoors, whether it be mowing her lawn, planting flowers, or just enjoying sitting on her porch swing. Virginia was an amazing woman who will be greatly missed.

Virginia is survived by her grandchildren Nilla Claymon of Amherst, Colorado; Jeana Hixon of Payson, Arizona; Daren (Liz) Claymon of Lincoln, NE; and Matt (Heidi) Hixon of Loveland, Colorado. Great-grandchildren Lacey and Beau Taylor, Dietrich and Audrey Hitt, and Hayden (Wes Salyards) and Drake Hixon. Niece Isla (Dwayne) Powell of Central City, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.

Virginia was born on January 13, 1923, to Guy and Mary Edith (Leetch) Woods in Blue Hill, NE.&nbsp; Virginia was the middle of five children. The family later moved to the Imperial, NE area. She graduated from the Imperial High School.She met Lloyd Vernon Hixon, the love of her life, in Imperial. Lloyd Vernon (Vern) and Virginia were married on August 27,1940. In this marriage, they were blessed with two children - Shirley (Hixon) Clayton and Lloyd Dean Hixon. Vern and Virginia were involved with farming and cattle for a number of years in the Grant area. Vern and Virginia moved to Grant in 1974. It was then that she worked in the kitchen at the Perkins County Hospital for 20 years. She was also very active in 4-H, the New Life Fellowship Church and an extension club called the Texas Trail.Virginia was a loving, caring, and faithful woman, and she deeply loved her family. Virginia believed in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as she was a strong Christian woman. She always had a way of finding the good things, even in the hardest of situations. She was always so positive and polite. She loved children and did not know a stranger. Not only was she a wonderful grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt to her family, but she was also considered a grandmother to a lot of people who knew her. She also loved animals, especially her beloved dogs Tiger and Daisy. She loved being outdoors, whether it be mowing her lawn, planting flowers, or just enjoying sitting on her porch swing. Virginia was an amazing woman who will be greatly missed.Virginia is survived by her grandchildren Nilla Claymon of Amherst, Colorado; Jeana Hixon of Payson, Arizona; Daren (Liz) Claymon of Lincoln, NE; and Matt (Heidi) Hixon of Loveland, Colorado. Great-grandchildren Lacey and Beau Taylor, Dietrich and Audrey Hitt, and Hayden (Wes Salyards) and Drake Hixon. Virginia Hixon (1923-2024)

Dorothy Rachel Bricker, 89, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on January 26, 1935, in Paxton, Nebraska to Wilhelm and Olinda (Heinrich) Langmacher. She attended Paxton Public Schools and graduated from Paxton High School with the class of 1953. She transitioned to Nebraska State Teacher's College at Kearney where she earned her degree in teaching. Dorothy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Vance Bricker on October 9, 1955, at the Lutheran Church in Paxton, Nebraska. Six children were blessed to this union: Vance, Alan, Bruce, Laurie, Shelly and Kevin.

Dorothy dedicated many years teaching pre-school children in Ogallala and Lexington. She worked in the Lexington Public Schools as well, working for the special education department and the library. She retired from Lexington Public Schools once she turned 62. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Grace Lutheran Church. &nbsp;She was known to be a meticulous seamstress, with her specialty being dresses and jackets. Dorothy and Vance spent twenty-two years wintering in Arizona where they made many lifelong friends and enjoyed dancing as well as creating beautiful jewelry out of fixed glass. She enjoyed spending her afternoons outdoors, doing some yard work or maintaining her garden. She also enjoyed baking her favorite cinnamon rolls for her kids and canning garden staples.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish her legacy are her children, Vance Ryan Bricker of Lexington, Alan (Theress) Bricker of Kearney, Bruce (Betty) Bricker of Holdrege, Laurie (Steve) Hamit of Greeley, Colorado, Shelly (Jack) Pietenpol of Lincoln and Kevin (Anita) Bricker of Ashland; grandchildren, Amber Herrington, Kelli Riley, Aspen Workman, Kraig Hamit, Kyle Hamit, Adam Neil, Devin Rausch, Halie Bricker, Chelsie Stowe-Rains, Eli Bricker, Gretchen Bricker, and Sophie Bricker; great-grandchildren, Lane, Lawson, Ledger, Carter, Austin, Lucas, Lainey, Bricker, Cavanaugh, Cora, Ellie and one on the way; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.&nbsp;

Dorothy Rachel Bricker (1935-2024)

Charles “Charlie” B. Schluckebier, 78, passed away on July 21, 2024, in Imperial, NE. He was born on August 15, 1945, in McCook, NE, to Paul D and Rosalie B. (Baxter) Schluckebier. Charlie attended high school in Jackson, MI, graduating with the class of 1964.

On April 27, 1984, Charlie married Evelyn M. Lines in Atwood, KS. They shared 33 happy years together before Evelyn’s passing in 2017. From their union, they were blessed with two children: Dan and Donna. Charlie also had a son, Paul, from a previous marriage.

Charlie enjoyed traveling from Michigan to Nebraska to visit and help on the McClatchy Family Farm. Charlie had a diverse career, as a welder for many years at Miller Manufacturing in Stratton, NE, Shroeder Cattle Company, was as a hired hand for Bob and Alta Keating and later served as a ditch rider for the H&amp;RW Irrigation District until he retired.

Charlie's interests and hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit. He enjoyed catching snakes, shooting prairie dogs, tinkering with old cars, and attending gun shows as an avid gun collector. He was a member of the Palisade Methodist Church, and the Palisade Masonic Lodge. Charlie supported his family's events and was known for helping Evelyn with church activities, such as delivering the church bulletin or food to the housebound. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on the swing outside the ditch house, watching the various wildlife.

Charlie will be remembered by many for his adventurous spirit, warm generosity, and his ability to bring a smile to everyone he met.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Schluckebier; son, Paul Schluckebier; daughter, Donna Whitney.

Those left to celebrate Charlie’s life include his son, Dan (Desi) Schluckebier of Hays, KS; son-in-law and granddaughter, Shane and Evelyn Whitney of Scottsbluff, NE; brothers, Rich (Sharon) Schluckebier of Palisade, NE, and Ken Schluckebier of Jackson, MI; and numerous friends and extended family.

Helen always had a servant's heart and passion for being a guiding light to others in a time of need or struggle.

Helen was also very active in her church, wherever that may have been, she was an integral and contributing member of the congregation. She spent many hours and days volunteering her time at the Salvation Army as well, further demonstrating her desire to do her part in helping the less fortunate, not to mention the frigid cold days where Helen could be found ringing the donation bell, a dedicated advocate for those who could benefit from these donations.

Vivacious, good willed, and welcoming are all words that can be used to describe Helen. She opened her home and heart to many students and folks who were in the process of immigrating the the U.S. from Russia, and even China. She had a strong will and was active throughout her 80's, notably making a trip from Flagstaff, AZ to Denver, CO, completely on her own. Helen will be remembered for being spontaneous, kind-hearted, modest and humble.

Left to cherish her memory are sons Eric (Diana) Hartsough of Colorado and Rex (Mary Ann) Hartsough of Nebraska, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Helen Elizabeth Widdifield (1925-2024)

On Monday, July 22, 2024, Lloyd Eugene Marquardt, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away in Holyoke, CO, at the age of 91.

Lloyd grew up in Hastings, NE, graduating from Hastings High School in 1950. After graduating, he found himself working at the Carter Hotel, where he met his wife of 71 years. Lloyd joined the Air Force on May 7, 1952. While on leave, November 1, 1952, he married the love of his life, Joan Joyce Houck, at her parents' home in Hastings, NE. After four years of service, he was discharged on May 6, 1956. From May 7, 1956, to May 6, 1960, he was a part of the Air Force Reserves.

Lloyd was a member of the Venango Community Church, Rocky Mountain Society of Aviculture, and Elks Lodge (in Ft. Collins).

During his lifetime, Lloyd called three locations home: Hastings, NE, where he grew up as a kid; Wellington, CO, where he raised his kids and lived for 44 years; and Venango, NE, where he retired and lived for 22 years.

Passing before Lloyd were his parents, James "Frank" Marquardt and Myrtle Goldie (Smith) Marquardt, five sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Marquardt; his children Cindy Summers, Gloria Zamparelli, James and Debbie Marquardt, and Dennis Marquardt; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was also honored to be the foster parent to 4 teenagers, John, Gary, Becky Summers, and David Clarke.

A memorial has been established in Lloyds's memory for later designation.

Lloyd Eugene Marquardt (1933-2024)

On July 22, 2024, Ali Michelle Crow, loved and cherished daughter, sister, cousin, and friend, left this world at her home in North Platte, at 20 years old. &nbsp;The baby of the family and only girl, she was welcomed into the world by Michael Crow and Mindy Crow on February 6, 2004, in North Platte.&nbsp;

At a young age, Ali found a passion for the sport of gymnastics. &nbsp;Her dedication throughout her childhood took her all over the country to compete and she was even invited to train with a competitive team at the US gymnastics facility. &nbsp;After graduating from North Platte High School with the class of 2022, Ali began working at The House Bar, an environment that her outgoing and spicy personality thrived in. &nbsp;Her colleagues quickly became her family and she possessed an intense amount of love for them and all who she crossed paths with. &nbsp;Ali was the queen of making her dad uncomfortable, always telling him the things he wanted to know and the things he didn’t want to know. &nbsp;She was described as the “Beth Dutton” in their relationship. &nbsp;Regardless of her straightforward personality, Ali was gentle and loyal as well. &nbsp;Every disagreement ended with an “I love you” and she was thought to be a genuine and deeply loving friend. &nbsp;Said with confidence, if you met Ali, you loved Ali. &nbsp;She possessed a talent for fashion; revamping and selling thrift store clothes being a favorite hobby. &nbsp;She owned more Jordan’s than one could imagine and her makeup and skin care collection filled the bathroom counter. &nbsp;Her little black cat, Binx, was her pride and joy.&nbsp;

Ali Michelle Crow (2004-2024)

Arthur J. Gardner (AJ), 75, of North Platte, NE, completed his earthly journey on Thursday, July 18, 2024, passing of heart failure at his peaceful ranch and returned home to heaven. Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

AJ was born January 21, 1949 to Roy and Carolyn (Wood) Gardner in Aberdeen, SD where he grew up with his two sisters Jamie and Karen. After high school he attended college in Sioux Falls, SD and moved to Omaha in 1970 to work as a security guard for Union Pacific Railroad where he met the one true love of his life Suzanne C. Davis. They married on February 16, 1974 in Omaha, NE; AJ adopted her two beautiful girls, and together had another. That same year, AJ was promoted to North Platte to work as a Special Agent for the Union Pacific Railroad and also specialized in hazardous materials, remaining in North Platte ever since.

His greatest passion in life was to be a cowboy and work in law enforcement; he succeeded in both to the fullest extent. &nbsp;After retiring from the railroad, AJ enjoyed being home on his ranch where he had raised and bred American Paint and Quarter horses for over 40 years. He spent his life loving animals, raising his part Japanese girls, being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, golfing, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his horses and participating in rodeo events as a team roper, bronco rider, and for a short time entertained as a rodeo clown with his daughter and dearest lady friend and went by the name of Apple Jack. He also loved playing the guitar, singing, dancing, spending time with dear friends, neighbors, international visitors, and thoroughly enjoyed having a good time. His big personality made him known and loved by many and he really lived life abundantly with a sincere heart. He encouraged all of his kids to be hardworking, strong-willed, and independent, which was led by example. &nbsp;A sincere humanitarian, AJ was an active member of the community, always a voice for change, and was one of the founding members who helped facilitate the creation of The Connection Homeless Shelter in North Platte.

AJ is survived by his three daughters, Laurie Gardner (James Taylor IV), grandson Jimmy Taylor V, Jaqie Gardner (Jeff Davis), Nicole (Chris) Kolopanis, sister(s), nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Carolyn Gardner.

Nathaniel Sandoval (2005-2024)

Sandra Lee (Stark) Nye, age 81, passed away on April 8, 2024, at her home at Lake McConaughy.&nbsp; She was born August 27, 1942, in Kearney, Nebraska to Glenn and Maryferne Stark.&nbsp; Sandy graduated from Kearney High School in 1960. She received a bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Sandy taught elementary vocal music and junior high instrument music courses in the Ogallala public schools. She was an influential teacher and mentor to many community members throughout her career in education.

Sandy was married to Larry Robb Nye of Ogallala, Nebraska on March 29, 1969.&nbsp; They welcomed a son Shane Patrick Nye in October of 1972.&nbsp;

Her love of music was always present.&nbsp; She sang in the Methodist Church choirs and community choirs of both Chadron and Ogallala. Highlights include directing the Ogallala summer band, performing in weddings, and participating with many other vocal groups from around the area.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sandy was a proud Scouting Den Mother with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorer Post.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking and led a group of AAUW ladies in Gourmet cooking.

Larry and Sandy Nye celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this March.

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Glen and Maryferne Stark and brother Glen Eric Stark.

Sandy is survived by husband Larry Nye, son Shane Nye and his wife Amanda, grandchildren Kinley and Colton Elliott and Sheyden Nye, sister Deborah Day, and family.

Memorial Services for Sandy Nye will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church at 421 North Spruce, Ogallala, Nebraska.

Sandra "Sandy" L. (Stark) Nye (1942-2024)

Robert Crosby age 81 of Kearney, NE formerly of Merna passed away July 18, 2024, at the Central Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Kearney, NE.

Robert Alan Crosby was born February 28, 1943, in Norfolk, NE to Lyle and Alice (Eacker) Crosby. Robert grew up on the family farm North of Spalding. Robert attended school at Barlett, graduating from Wheeler Central High School.

July 26, 1967, Robert joined the United States Navy, he was Honorably Discharged November 17, 1969. After the Navy, Robert farmed in the Spalding area for a while before moving to the Merna area, working for Karl Safranek for 17 years, then working for Frank and Lynn Bartak until September of 2001, when Robert had a stroke and retired, working for the Bartak’s part time. In 2019, Robert moved to the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, where he resided until his death.

Robert’s hobbies included driving the back roads and spending time with family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Alice, two brothers Dick Crosby and Jerry Crosby, and a daughter Becky Crosby.

Robert is survived by his children Tina Crosby of Cairo, Brenda Crosby Holtorf of Gladstone, MO, Laura Crosby Goldade of Timberlake, SD, David Crosby of Cairo, and Andy Crosby of Kearney, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Spalding Auditorium at 231 E St Joseph Street in Spalding, NE. Robert Crosby (1943-2024)

Johny Joe Foster, 80, of Kearney, Nebraska, died July 20, 2024 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.&nbsp;

Johny was born Johnny Wilson in North Platte, Nebraska to John Daniel and May Elizabeth (Sukraw) Wilson on October 8, 1943. He spent most of his childhood in and around the North Platte area. Johny graduated from North Platte High School in 1962. John Daniel was killed in a car wreck when Johnny was about 6 years old. In 1949, May married Frank Foster, bringing along three little boys: Johny, Raymond, and Ivan.

Johny spent from 1965 to 2003 working for the UP Railroad out of North Platte. He was drafted into the army in February of 1967 and was sent to Vietnam. He spent many months in the jungle where he earned a purple heart. He came home with many issues from being exposed to agent orange.

Johny married Phyllis Scofield/Brown in Cheyenne, WY on February 14, 1991. They resided there until moving back to Nebraska in 1997. They lived overlooking Lake McConaughy and in Ogallala until 2012 when they moved to Johnstown, CO for 10 years, then back to Nebraska in 2022. They remained in Kearney, Nebraska until his death.

Johny's favorite thing to do was ride his motorcycles and travel. After he retired, he and Phyllis enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in their motor home. They were fortunate enough to travel to almost all of the states in the United States, visiting Canada and Mexico also. In his later years he enjoyed collecting guns and spending time at the gun range.

Johny is survived by his wife of 33 years Phyllis, three children: Robin, Rebecca, Steven; three step children: Kendra (Mike) Anderson, Kevin(Shelia) Brown, Greg (Zhonette) Brown; one brother, Raymond (Cheryl) Foster; many grandchildren great grandchildren, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, his parents, one brother, Ivan, and one niece, Kim Foster.

Celebration of Life will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, August 9, 2024 at 10:00 am.&nbsp;

Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.

Johny Joe Foster (1943-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lennie Gene Spady, aged 73, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024, in Omaha, Neb. He was born on Jan. 25, 1951, to Harold and Donna Spady, in Imperial, Neb. He graduated from Chase County High School in 1969 and married Teri Smith in 1973. They made their home and raised their four sons in Imperial. They recently moved to McCook, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp;An accomplished carpenter by trade, Lennie’s skill and passion for his work were evident in every project he undertook. His hands shaped wood into beautiful creations, reflecting his meticulous nature and commitment to excellence as evidenced by the many homes he touched in some way throughout Chase County.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Beyond his trade, Lennie’s dedication to his family was evident throughout the years. He shared 51 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Teri, building three homes and completely remodeling another while creating many cherished memories over all those years. Lennie was a proud father and grandfather enjoying taking his boys hunting and fishing in their younger years, coaching baseball, and then making memories teaching his grandsons to drive and following their love of sports.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lennie’s life was also deeply rooted in his faith. He had a profound love for the Bible, drawing strength and guidance from its teachings throughout his life.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lennie was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Donna, brothers-in-law Gary Greeley and Steve Smith, and son Adam, whose memory he cherished deeply.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Lennie is survived by his wife, Teri, sons Troy, Nick (Leah), and Jon (Amber), daughter-in-law Lynn, siblings Garry (Sharon), Dawanna Greeley, Dwight, Kyle (Dana), grandchildren Mason (Danae), Tyler, Trevor, Trea, Toby, and Daisy, mother-in-law Rosie Molzahn, brothers-in-law Mike (Ann) Smith, Dick (Susie) Smith, sister-in-law Peggy Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Lennie Spady’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, craftsmanship, and faith.

 </figure>&nbsp; &nbsp; Lennie Gene Spady, aged 73, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024, in Omaha, Neb. He was born on Jan. 25, 1951, to Harold and Donna Spady, in Imperial, Neb. He graduated from Chase County High School in 1969 and married Teri Smith in 1973. They made their home and raised their four sons in Imperial. They recently moved to McCook, Nebraska.&nbsp; &nbsp;An accomplished carpenter by trade, Lennie’s skill and passion for his work were evident in every project he undertook. His hands shaped wood into beautiful creations, reflecting his meticulous nature and commitment to excellence as evidenced by the many homes he touched in some way throughout Chase County.&nbsp; &nbsp; Beyond his trade, Lennie’s dedication to his family was evident throughout the years. He shared 51 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Teri, building three homes and completely remodeling another while creating many cherished memories over all those years. Lennie was a proud father and grandfather enjoying taking his boys hunting and fishing in their younger years, coaching baseball, and then making memories teaching his grandsons to drive and following their love of sports.&nbsp; &nbsp; Lennie’s life was also deeply rooted in his faith. He had a profound love for the Bible, drawing strength and guidance from its teachings throughout his life.&nbsp; &nbsp; Lennie was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Donna, brothers-in-law Gary Greeley and Steve Smith, and son Adam, whose memory he cherished deeply.&nbsp; &nbsp;Lennie is survived by his wife, Teri, sons Troy, Nick (Leah), and Jon (Amber), daughter-in-law Lynn, siblings Garry (Sharon), Dawanna Greeley, Dwight, Kyle (Dana), grandchildren Mason (Danae), Tyler, Trevor, Trea, Toby, and Daisy, mother-in-law Rosie Molzahn, brothers-in-law Mike (Ann) Smith, Dick (Susie) Smith, sister-in-law Peggy Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; &nbsp;Lennie Spady’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Lennie Gene Spady (1951-2024)

Karen Troyer, aged 79, a beloved figure of North Platte, Nebraska, sadly left our world on July 16th, 2024, after a life lived richly in service and kindness. &nbsp;On February 27th, 1945, she was born to Clifford and Margaret (Waugh) McNeel in Los Angeles, CA.

Karen married Dan Troyer on October 6, 1963, just a few months upon graduating high school. &nbsp;They were blessed with two sons, Brad and Kyle. &nbsp;The couple lived in North Platte as they raised their children and worked at several places, a memorable one being the Sale Barn, where Karen thoroughly enjoyed the people she became familiar with and enjoyed working around.

Being a grandma was especially important to Karen and she loved spending as much time with her grandkids as possible. &nbsp;She was a lifetime member and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in North Platte. &nbsp;Karen was a 50 plus member of the Velvet Spurs Riding Club, which celebrated their 55th anniversary just last year. &nbsp;She also became a member of the Buffalo Bill Rodeo Queen Committee in 1985, where she found her passion for pageants and rodeo queens. &nbsp;After the Miss Rodeo Nebraska title was moved to North Platte, Karen immediately joined the Association. &nbsp;Upon joining the Association 33 years ago, she has participated in nearly every volunteer opportunity; she chaired the pageant committee, served as assistant director, aided with sponsorships, chaperoned dozens of young ladies, and helped wherever she was needed. &nbsp;Karen dedicated 28 years to the Miss Rodeo America Inc. and the Miss Rodeo America Pageant, serving on multiple committees over the years. &nbsp;Karen was a member of The Troop, which is a group of her high school classmates, a Teammates mentor, and an elementary school class aid. &nbsp;She was a beacon of unwavering friendship and kindness and has left an incredible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. &nbsp;

Those that precede Karen in death include her parents; her son, Brad; and her brother, Kim. &nbsp;Karen was the last surviving member of the “Four Golden Girls”; the three preceding her being Mardee Swanson, Sharon Halligan, and Betty Priel.

Karen will be a guiding star for all who knew her and she is leaving a legacy through her husband of 60 years, Dan Troyer; her son, Kyle Troyer; sister, Kelly (Vern) Ehlers; grandkids, JD (fiancé, Cassie) Troyer, Landon (Taylor) Troyer, Lacey (Andrew) Dalton, Ryce Troyer, Calie Troyer; great granddaughters, Bradleigh Troyer, Logan Dalton, Collins Dalton; daughters-in-law, Jacque (Steve) Stadler of Minden, Yvette Troyer of Hershey; several other family members and a vast amount of friends. &nbsp;

Karen Troyer (1945-2024)

Robert Lewellen Hazlitt died July 16, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, NE, just 5 days short of his 91st birthday. Robert was born in Sidney, NE to Harry E. and Lillian E. (Carlson) Hazlitt. He completed the 8th grade in Sidney and quit school to help his dad on the farm during the Depression. On April 3, 1953, he married Ann Roelle in Peetz, CO and to this union, four sons were born.&nbsp;

Robert went to work in the oil fields on drilling rigs and while working, he took a home study course on TV and radio repair. He repaired TVs and radios for several years. He then went on to pass his master electrician license and did electrical work in the Sidney area. He later got his GED while teaching electrical wiring at Western Nebraska Technical College (WNTC).&nbsp;

Robert enjoyed playing cards, traveling with Ann including trips to Alaska and Hawaii. He enjoyed going to the lake with kids and grandkids and loved his occasional stop at a casino. Bob and Ann traveled to watch kids and grandkids activities. Bob always had a project in his garage. He restored two Ford Falcons.

After Robert retired, they moved to Selden, KS where they lived for approximately 14 years. They later moved to McCook, NE.&nbsp;

Robert is preceded in death by Ann in 2017; his parents; brothers, Donald Hazlitt, Richard Hazlitt, and Rodney Hazlitt; and sisters, Gladys Belford, Bonita Kobbins, and Vicky Maple.

Robert is survived by his sons Lonnie (Andrea) Hazlitt of Lake Jackson, TX, Monte (Mary) Hazlitt of McCook, NE, Harry (Tifinae) Hazlitt of Linden, NC, and Robert L. (Georgette) Hazlitt, Jr. of Grass Valley, CA; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Willa Roelle, Trudy Fuller, and Darlene Hazlitt; brother-in-law, Carl Roelle; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, are suggested to any charity of choice in Robert’s name.&nbsp;

A celebration reception with family greeting will be held at the Peetz Community Center, 526 Main St, Peetz, CO 80747 at noon to 2 pm MT on Monday, July 22, 2024. A private family burial will occur prior to this.

Norma Jean (Shunk) Mayer, 86, of Grant, passed away on July 15, 2024, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Norma was born on March 5, 1938, in Shelby, NE, to Lester and Miriam (Kruse) Shunk.

Norma grew up in the Rising City and Columbus, Nebraska area and attended schools in Rising City and Columbus. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1955 and subsequently worked in the Platte County Treasurer's office in Columbus.

In September of 1956, Norma moved to Julesburg, Colorado, where she worked as a legal secretary.

Norma married Royston Mayer of Grant on September 1, 1957, and two children, Mikel and Monica, were born to this union.

Norma worked part-time as a legal secretary. When Mikel and Monica started school, she went to work at the K-8 public school in Grant as the school secretary and bookkeeper. Norma retired after 36 years at the school. She took the school census for 53 years and was a Board member of ESU #16 for 16 years.

Norma was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grant. She was a member of Ladies Aid and served on the Church Council.

Norma loved traveling, going to the sports events of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and taking long walks.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Royston, parents, grandparents, two sisters, and long-time friend Vince Lee.

She is survived by her children, Mikel (Donna) Mayer and Monica (Kevin) Poppe all of Grant; grandchildren, Molly Mayer, Drew (Caitlin) Mayer, Brad (Shelby) Mayer, Lauren (Jeremy) Klima, Adrianne Poppe; 6 great-grandchildren: Paisley, Callum, Brynn, Wells Mayer, Elle, Isla Klima; brother, Tom (Julee) Shunk; sister Gaylene Thelen, along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Merlon Keith, “Sam” Bedke was born on May 23, 1939, at his family home in Ravenna Nebraska. He was the youngest of seven children born to Frank and Edna Bedke. Sam loved reminiscing about their farm family and the hard work, shenanigans, and love shared. His family loved hearing about the pet crow, and other special creatures on their farm. Fishing the sand pits in Nebraska was especially enjoyable to Sam. He attended Ravenna High School and told many stories of his high school football career and time with friends. He always kept his connection to Ravenna friends, families, and neighbors.

He was employed with Union Pacific for his entire career of 45 years. In 1988 he was transferred to North Platte to finish his career. He was a member of the Boilermaker’s Union.Sam was known for his pranks and humor among his coworkers, friends, and family. He told many stories of his adventures at work, fishing with friends, and pranks among family and friends. His Facebook followers enjoyed hearing about the book he was writing and his how-to-video posts. Both brought smiles to many.February 19, 1989, he was united in marriage to Cindy Hancock Wiese. You often heard the two of them referring to each other as “partner “or “buddy” in their conversations. With this union, Sam’s family grew, adding two step-daughters and two step-sons with which to share life and love. Sam and Cindy lived in rural North Platte for 35 years. Together they loved the land and many animals in their 80-acre paradise. Enjoying nature and especially his many dogs, held a special place in Sam’s heart. You didn’t need to ask twice to see Sam’s pictures of his Great Danes. This acreage was welcoming to many family members and friends throughout the years.Sam had a strong will and was known for overcoming obstacles. He returned to school later in life and earned his GED, he gave up smoking, sugar, and alcohol. Sam’s time with an Anonymous fellowship was a major part of his life and support. He grew through friendships developed there. Many deep friendships were formed. 2024 marked Sam’s 50th year in this fellowship.Sam was always an advocate of taking care of his body and was faithful with physical exercise until his health failed, which was in his 80’s. One of Sam’s repeated quotes was, “You can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself.” He has been a role model to many in many ways.Sam is survived by his loving wife Cindy; three daughters, Marlene Bedke, Julie (Monte) Flynn, and Teri (Mark) Otte; one step-son Tim (Stacy) Wiese; two step-daughters, Angie (John) Burrows, and Rebecca (Teak) Colson; Grandsons Heath (Jennifer) Reyzlik, Colin (Miranda) Warrick, and Jared Warrick; Granddaughters Natalie (Justin) Christensen, Jenna (Jan) Hilgendorff, Meredith (John) Rohwer, Morgan (Brandon) Echtenkamp, Maggie (Matt) Thomas, and Amanda (Zach) Edwards; Granddaughters, Maddie Wiese and Cassidy Ratliff; Grandsons Douglas Drake, Lucas Ratliff, Neathen Burrows, Declan Burrows, and Brody Colson; twenty great-grandchildren; one cousin Marge Ruder and many special nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in-law, Harry and Phylis Hancock; two brothers, Ervin and Robert Bedke, four sisters Edith, Lois, Phyllis, and Marlene, and their spouses; daughter Debbie; son-in-law’s, Jim Reyzlik and Rich Warrick; step-son Ted Wiese; and many friends.Sam entered into eternity on July 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 19th at Bethel Church, North Platte, Nebraska with Pastor Geoff Safford officiating.
