OMAHA, Neb. — The opening two days of the NSAA State Track and Field Championships brought impressive performances and dramatic finishes as athletes from across Nebraska left their mark on the Class A and B competitions.

North Platte’s track and field team showed grit over the first two days of Class A competition, with standout performances in both individual and relay events.

Senior Keyala Williams earned a bronze medal in the girls long jump, soaring 18 feet, 2 inches. Katie Titus added key points to North Platte’s total, finishing fifth in the discus (124-11) and later competing in the shot put for 13th place.

Mackenzie Bruns cleared 9 feet in the girls pole vault to place 16th, while the girls 4x800-meter relay squad clocked a 10:23.87 to finish 13th.

Kori McClain turned in a pair of strong distance races, placing fifth in the 800-meter dash and ninth in the 1600.

On the boys' side, North Platte’s 4x800 relay team ran an impressive 8:08.06 for a fifth-place finish. They added a ninth-place result in the 4x400 with a time of 3:25.11. Aiden Hawks highlighted the distance events, placing third in the 1600 (4:17.17), while Luke Tegtmeier secured a top-10 finish in the 800 (1:58.09).

Lathan Huntsman finished 13th in the pole vault, clearing 12-3.66, and Jack Hughes placed 22nd in the 300-meter hurdles (42.69).

Ogallala’s Story Rasby delivered one of the top performances of the meet so far, blazing to gold in the girls 400 meters with a time of 56.12. Teammate Shaydyn Rasby nearly reached the podium twice, finishing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.05) and second in the 300 hurdles (44.11).

Chase County made its presence felt across eleven boys events, highlighted by Noah Rau’s record-breaking gold medal in the boys discus with a 203-09 throw, setting a new state mark. Rau also placed 11th in shot put (49-3). In the long jump, Kole Clevenger finished sixth (22-03), while Camron Lempke (19-03) was 24th. Lempke also ran 52.10 for 15th in the 400 meters.

Chase County saw solid relay efforts, finishing 10th in the 4x400 (3:26.48) and 11th in the 4x100 (43.63), while the 4x800 boys relay took 16th. In hurdles, Lukas Fries missed the finals in the 110s (15.38) and finished 21st in the 300s (43.51). Tristan Jablonski placed 17th in the 800 (2:00.71). In pole vault, Tate Hubbard finished seventh (14-06) and Spencer Kelly 17th (12-06).

For the Chase County girls, Emily Randall took 8th in the 800 (2:21.09), and the girls 4x800 relay placed 8th (9:44). Riley and Hayley Rusher both competed in the 100 and 200 meters, but did not advance to finals. Hayley added a 10th-place finish in pole vault (10-00), while Adelle Eskew finished 15th in long jump (16-04.5). The girls also placed 7th in the 4x400 (4:03.20) and 10th in the 4x100 (50.03).

Gothenburg featured strong efforts across the board. Tyler Hetz led the boys team with a sixth-place finish in the 3200 (9:35.38) and 10th in the 1600 (4:26.66). Bryson Neels placed 13th in the 800 (1:58.39). The boys 4x800 relay claimed 7th (8:10.94), while the 4x400 (7th, 3:25.07) and 4x100 (9th, 43.49) also scored.

In the hurdles, Even Johnson (10th, 40.97) and Preston Nichols (20th, 43.46) competed in the 300s. In field events, Zander Hruza (21st in discus), and Jax Rickertsen (9th in pole vault at 14-00) contributed solid performances.

On the girls’ side, Scout Bell placed 12th in the 3200 (11:34.96) and 16th in the 1600 (5:27.43). Adalyn Carlson ran 2:28.13 for 20th in the 800. Taryn O’Hare took 10th in shot put (37-06), and Halsey Thomalla finished 20th (34-02). Amaiya Carlson threw 113-03 for 11th in discus.

Over the last two seasons UNK went 41-12 in duals, won two MIAA regular season titles, and reached the NCAA Sweet 16 twice. Last year, the Lopers beat Azusa, 4-1, to reach the Elite Eight for the first time in program history. Azusa (21-4) will face defending national champion Nova Southeastern (Fla.) Thursday morning in this year's Elite 8.&nbsp;Today's rematch came in 90-degree weather with 50% humidity. There were many of the same names from last year's dual but only one rematch (four singles) with the Cougars getting things started with a close win in doubles.

At two, APU won 6-0 with UNK having a a big lead at three and the Cougars the same at one. However, both sides rallied so the team point was up for grabs. But the Cougars&nbsp;literally hung on at one (7-6; 7-5) to go up 1-0&nbsp;with Lincoln redshirt junior&nbsp;<b>Clare Plachy</b>&nbsp;and Venezuelan sophomore&nbsp;<b>Fabiana Gamboa</b>&nbsp;recording a 6-4 decision at three.&nbsp;&nbsp;The 50th-ranked tandem of Julia Jordan and Vini Bautista won at one over 17th-ranked&nbsp;<b>Narindra Ranaivo</b>&nbsp;(Madagascar) and&nbsp;<b>Tanya Midzi</b>&nbsp;(Zimbabwe). Last year, Jordan and Bautista won at two, but UNK was victorious at three, 7-5, and, ironically, 7-6 (7-5) at one to grab the point.&nbsp;APU won in straight sets at six singles (-1, -1) to take a 2-0 lead with the 13th-ranked Gamboa doing the same at one (-2, -2) to get UNK (20-6) on the board. Broderick was named All-Big Ten Second Team, while Nunez was selected to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.

Broderick is 3-2 on the season in 24 relief appearances and leads the Big Ten with 11 saves, which is tied for ninth nationally. The junior’s 11 saves ranks eighth-most by an NU reliever in a season, one shy of tying Josh Roeder (2014) in seventh. Broderick has totaled a 4.13 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 28.1 innings while limiting opposing hitters to a .240 batting average.

Nunez has appeared in 35 games, including 26 starts, and is hitting a team-best .308 at the plate for the Huskers this season. The freshman has tallied a double, four home runs, 20 RBI and scored 18 times to go with 10 multi-hit games and four multi-RBI contests in his first season with the Huskers.

Nunez was named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week earlier this season after leading the Huskers at the Frisco Classic with a home run, three RBI, four runs scored and 7-for-14 effort at the plate.

Also announced on Tuesday morning, Dylan Carey was selected as Nebraska’s recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

Robby Bolin came through in the clutch, hitting a walk-off RBI single to give the Huskers a 5-4 win in 10 innings against Michigan State at the Big Ten Baseball Tournament on Tuesday night in Omaha.

Nebraska (29-27) scored five runs on 12 hits and an error, while Michigan State (28-26) totaled four runs, seven hits and two errors.

Case Sanderson was 3-for-5 with two RBI, and Cayden Brumbaugh went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Bolin drove in one run and scored once on a 2-for-4 night, while Riley Silva, Gabe Swansen and Will Jesske had one hit each.

Ty Horn allowed three runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts and three walks in two innings of work. Tucker Timmerman tossed three innings in relief, allowing an unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Drew Christo dealt 1.2 scoreless innings with just one hit allowed.

The Huskers and Spartans exchanged runs in the opening frame to send a 1-1 game into the second inning.&nbsp; A leadoff single and sacrifice bunt had a runner on second with one out in the top of the first for Michigan State. The Spartan plated the game’s first run of the night with an RBI double that was lined to the wall in right-center field.

Nebraska evened the game at one behind a pair of hits in the bottom of the first. Silva drilled a 1-2 pitch in the alley in left-center field, while Brumbaugh had a single ricochet off the bag at first to put runners on first and third with one out for the Big Red.

Swansen lifted a 1-2 pitch to right field for a sacrifice fly that scored Silva and locked the game at one.

Michigan State scored two runs without a hit or an error in the top of the second to take the lead back at 3-1. Three consecutive one-out walks loaded the bases for the Spartans, while a balk gave MSU a one-run lead. An RBI groundout to second after the balk doubled the lead to 3-1 through two innings.

The Spartans added a run in the top of the fifth inning to extend the lead to 4-1. A leadoff and a plunked batter with two outs had runners on first and second, before an infield single loaded the bases for MSU. An errant throw on a pickoff attempt at second allowed the runner on third to trot on home to stretch the lead to three.

Nebraska plated two runs with three hits and an error in the bottom of the sixth to climb back within 4-3. Consecutive singles from Brumbaugh and Swansen had runners on first and second with one out, while a wild relay throw advanced the duo to second and third.

Area District Boy's Golf results from 5-19

Nebraska softball pitcher and utility player Jordyn Bahl was named a Top 3 finalist for the USA Softball/ESPN Collegiate Player of the Year, the organization announced on Monday. Bahl is the first Husker to be a top-3 finalist for the award, and she is a top-3 finalist for the first time after being a three-time top-10 finalist.

The other two finalists are Arkansas’ Bri Ellis and Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady, the reigning Collegiate Player of the Year.&nbsp;

A Papillion, Neb., native, Bahl continues to rack up the accolades, as she was named both the Big Ten Player of the Year and the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. She was the first player in the conference's history to earn both of those awards in the same season. She also was a member of the All-Big Ten first team. Bahl has also been a two-time national player of the week this spring, and she has won six Big Ten weekly awards, including five pitcher-of-the-week honors and one player-of-the-week award.

Bahl is the first Husker in school history to record 15 doubles and 15 home runs in the same season. She also became the second Husker to record 60+ runs, hits and RBIs in a season. Bahl has 23 home runs, 69 runs scored and 41 extra-base hits on the season, all of which are program-record marks. With 23 home runs and 25 wins in the circle, Bahl is one of five players in NCAA history to have 20+ home runs and wins in the same season.

At last weekend’s Baton Rouge Regional, Bahl went 5-for-5 with four home runs, seven walks, eight runs and seven RBIs at the plate, while going 2-0 in the circle, allowing just one run and two hits in 12.0 innings with 16 strikeouts.

At the plate, the junior has notched 69 runs, 76 hits, 66 RBIs, 16 doubles, 2 triples and 23 homers on a .475 batting average. She has only struck out 14 times and has a slugging percentage of 1.031 and an on-base percentage of .568.&nbsp;

In the circle, Bahl has an ERA of 1.50 and a record of 25-6 across 186.11 innings pitched. She has struck out 270 batters and allowed only 40 earned runs.&nbsp;

Bahl ranks in the top 10 nationally offensive in slugging percentage, runs per game, batting average, extra-base hits, hoem runs per game and on-base percentage while also ranking in the top 10 nationally in the following pitching categories: opponent batting average, hits allowed per seven innings, strikeouts per seven innings, shutouts, wins, ERA and complete games.

The winner will be announced on Tuesday, May 27 at the athlete’s banquet prior to the Women’s College World Series.

Bahl named top three finalist for Player of the Year

CHADRON, Neb. – National qualifiers Chayton Bynes and Trace Hanchett both won shares of special awards as the RMAC announced their all-conference honors for the 2025 men's and women's outdoor track season on Monday. 

Bynes was voted as the Co-Field Athlete of the Year, matching his award win from the indoor season, while Hanchett was voted as the league's Co-Freshman of the Year. 

In addition, six Eagle athletes, including Bynes and Hanchett, made first or second team All-RMAC based on their performances at the RMAC Championships from April 25-27 in Golden, Colorado. Athletes who finished first through third in an event were given first-team honors, while fourth through sixth place earned second-team awards. 

The Chadron State First Team All-RMAC honorees are Bynes (1st, long jump; 2nd, triple jump) and senior Creighton Trembly (2nd, 110 hurdles). CSC's five Second Team All-RMAC honorees include Christopher Cormier (4th, 400 meters), Parker Gonser (4th, hammer throw), Hanchett (5th, javelin) and Nicquaine Henry (4th, 400 hurdles) on the men's side, along with freshman triple jumper Camila Salvucci (4th) on the women's side. 

Chayton Bynes doubled up on his Co-Field Athlete of the Year honors from the indoor season with another special award win, sharing the honor with UCCS's KJ McInnis. Bynes is the only RMAC athlete to repeat a 2025 indoor season special award win and take home the same award in the outdoor season. 

The redshirt sophomore starred at the RMAC championships, winning the long jump and finishing second in the triple jump at the conference meet. Bynes never finished lower than second in either the long jump or the triple jump during the outdoor season, winning at three meets in each event prior to the conference meet. The Chadron High School grad will compete at nationals this weekend in the triple jump, entering with a school-record leap of 15.54 (51 feet), which ranks 10th in Division II. 

Trace Hanchett burst onto the scene during his true freshman campaign out of Philipsburg, Kansas, sharing the co-freshman honors with Colorado Mesa's Aidan Brownell. Hanchett broke the school record in the javelin twice, most recently with an RMAC-best mark of 66.93 meters (219 feet, 7 inches) at the 2025 Loper Twilight Meet on May 10, and cleared 200 feet four times. Although Hanchett's fifth-place finish in wet conditions at the RMAC Championships matched his worst finish in a meet this year, Hanchett set the facility record at the site of the RMAC Championships earlier this season with a 65.60 meter (215-3) throw at the Kit Mayer Classic in Golden.

Bynes, Hanchett and Nicquaine Henry will be competing at the Division II National Championships in Pueblo, Colorado from May 22-24. Henry qualified after setting a school-record time of 51.56 seconds in the 400 hurdles, over 1.4 seconds faster than his time at the RMAC Championships. 

Colorado Mesa's Mateo Casados was named the Track Athlete of the Year. UCCS Head Coach Ross Fellows was named the RMAC Coach of the Year. In addition to splitting Co-Field Athlete of the Year with Bynes, UCCS's KJ McInnis was given the Dr. Randy Rhine Men's Outdoor Track Performer of the Meet award after winning both the high and triple jumps and placing third in the long jump event won by Bynes.

Pair of CSC Track & Field Stars Earn Major RMAC Seasonal Awards

Lincoln - Three-time Missouri Valley Conference Coach-of-the-Year Breanne Hall has been named the next head coach of the Nebraska women's golf program, Director of Athletics Troy Dannen announced on Thursday, May 15.

“We are thrilled to have Breanne Hall join us as the head coach of our women’s golf program,” Dannen said. “Breanne has built an impressive resume, first starting a program from the ground up at UNC Asheville, before raising the profile of Illinois State women’s golf to the top of the Missouri Valley Conference. She has great connections at all levels of the game and has a record of success recruiting student-athletes both throughout the United States and internationally. We look forward to Breanne’s leadership and exciting times ahead for Nebraska Women’s Golf!”

Hall, who won back-to-back MVC Coach-of-the-Year honors at Illinois State the past two seasons, led the Redbirds to three NCAA Tournament appearances over the past four seasons at ISU. She was also the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year.

"I am incredibly honored and grateful to accept the position as head women's golf coach at the University of Nebraska. I want to sincerely thank Director of Athletics Troy Dannen, Deputy AD/Senior Woman Administrator Kristen Brown, and Associate Director of Compliance Jena Johnson for their belief in me and the vision we share for this program," Hall said. "Nebraska is a place with deep tradition and pride, and I'm beyond excited for the opportunity to lead these student-athletes and build on the foundation of excellence that defines Husker Athletics. While I'm incredibly excited for this next chapter at Nebraska, I also want to take a moment to thank Illinois State and UNC Asheville. I'm deeply grateful for the opportunities I had to grow as a coach and to lead so many outstanding student-athletes at both programs."

Hall's 2025 Illinois State team won the Missouri Valley Conference title by 31 strokes before finishing 11th at the NCAA Columbus Regional. Redbird Jinyoung Yun was named the MVC Golfer of the Year for the second straight season, while Morgan Jones was named MVC Newcomer of the Year and Elise Fennell was honored as the MVC Freshman of the Year. All three Redbirds were also named All-MVC and to the MVC All-Tournament Team, while teammate Jessica Jolly added All-MVC honors for the season.

In 2024, Illinois State won the Missouri Valley Conference title by 12 strokes with Ali Schrock sharing the tournament title. Yun was named MVC Golfer of the Year and joined Schrock on the all-tournament team. Avalon Woodward also captured All-MVC honors. The Redbirds went on to finish 12th at the NCAA East Lansing Regional. Schrock also capped her career as a three-time CSC Academic All-American with first-team honors in 2024.

The Redbirds earned their first conference title under Hall's direction in 2022 and their first MVC title in a decade, edging Missouri State by one stroke. Schrock was named the MVC Golfer of the Year while taking runner-up honors in the tournament. Woodward and Kehler Koss joined Schrock on the All-MVC team. Illinois State capped the year with a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Stillwater Regional.

During her time at Illinois State, Hall coached three MVC Golfers of the Year and 15 all-conference selections. Her teams produced the five best single-season scoring averages in school history over the past five years, while also putting up 15 of the top 16 three-round tournament scores in the ISU record book. Her teams also delivered 14 of the top 15 single-round scores in Redbird history.

Hall was a three-time All-MAC selection as a golfer at Toledo, after beginning her career at Northern Kentucky. The winner of the Michigan Women's Open in 2003, Hall competed in the Futures Tour Q-School after earning her bachelor's degree in organizational management from Toledo in 2004. Hall, who began her instructional career as an assistant professional at Manasquan River Golf Club in Brielle, N.J. (2005-06), served as an assistant professional at Grove Park Inn Resort &amp; Spa in Asheville, N.C. (2007-08), before spending four years as the head professional at the resort (2008-12) and one year as the club manager (2012-13). She became a PGA Class A member in 2012.&nbsp;

She served as the director of golf instruction at Mountain Air Country Club in Burnsville, N.C. (2013-16) prior to embarking on her collegiate coaching career.

Hall’s hiring comes two months after Jeanne Sutherland announced her retirement as Nebraska’s head coach on March 14. Hall becomes the sixth head coach in the 50-year history of the Husker women’s golf program.

Redbird Jinyoung Yun was named the MVC Golfer of the Year for the second straight season, while Morgan Jones was named MVC Newcomer of the Year and Elise Fennell was honored as the MVC Freshman of the Year. All three Redbirds were also named All-MVC and to the MVC All-Tournament Team, while teammate Jessica Jolly added All-MVC honors for the season.</p><p>In 2024, Illinois State won the Missouri Valley Conference title by 12 strokes with Ali Schrock sharing the tournament title. Yun was named MVC Golfer of the Year and joined Schrock on the all-tournament team. Avalon Woodward also captured All-MVC honors. The Redbirds went on to finish 12th at the NCAA East Lansing Regional. Schrock also capped her career as a three-time CSC Academic All-American with first-team honors in 2024.</p><p>The Redbirds earned their first conference title under Hall's direction in 2022 and their first MVC title in a decade, edging Missouri State by one stroke. Hall named Husker Women's Golf Head Coach

Nebraska mounted its largest comeback since 2010 to pick up an 11-9 win at Purdue on Thursday night at Alexander Field in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Huskers trailed 8-0 after three innings, making it the Big Red’s largest come-from-behind win since rallying from a 10-run deficit against North Dakota on March 30, 2010.

Nebraska (27-26, 14-14 Big Ten) scored 11 runs on 14 hits and an error, while Purdue (30-22, 10-18 Big Ten) totaled nine runs, 11 hits and two errors.

Dylan Carey was 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored. Cayden Brumbaugh drove in three runs on a 2-for-6 night with a double. Riley Silva, Joshua Overbeek and Case Sanderson pieced together two-hit performances.

Robby Bolin drove in two runs and had a hit, while Gabe Swansen and Devin Nunez had RBI doubles and Hogan Helligso recorded a hit.

Tucker Timmerman surrendered eight runs on six hits across two innings. Caleb Clark, Pryce Bender and Grant Cleavinger teamed up to deal four scoreless innings in relief. Drew Christo improved to 2-2 on the season after allowing an unearned run on two hits in 1.2 innings of action.

Luke Broderick picked up his 11th save of the season, climbing to eighth on the single-season chart at Nebraska. The junior didn’t allow a run on a pair of hits across 1.1 innings on Thursday night.

Purdue scored five runs behind three hits in the bottom of the second to sprint out to a five-run advantage. The Boilermakers had the bases loaded with no outs after a single, walk and plunked batter. A second consecutive hit batter broke the scoreless deadlock, while an RBI single up the middle and a sacrifice fly to center had Purdue out front 3-0.

The Boilermakers stretched the lead to five in the second with a two-RBI single through the right side.

Purdue tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third to grow the lead to 8-0. A leadoff homer to begin the inning, followed by two straight singles, extended the lead to seven. A sacrifice bunt with runners on first and third and one out brought home a third run in the inning and had the Boilermakers ahead 8-0 through three innings.

The Huskers responded with six runs on four hits and an error in the top of the fourth to climb back within 8-6. Carey scored the Big Red’s first run of the day with a leadoff homer over the wall in left-center field. Will Jesske reached on a fielding error, and Sanderson was plunked on full count to put runners on first and second with no outs.

A one-out RBI single to left field plated Jesske from second, while Silva was hit by the pitch on 0-1 count to load the bases. Brumbaugh cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to right field, before Swansen laced a first-pitch RBI double to the gap in left-center field to score Brumbaugh from second and bring the Huskers within two runs.

Nebraska had runners on the corners with one out in the top of the fifth after Sanderson singled through the right side and Helligso reached on a fielding error. Bolin laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Sanderson from third, and Helligso scored from second on Silva’s two-out RBI double to center field that locked the game at eight.

Bender, Cleavinger and Christo combined to keep the Boilermakers off the scoreboard in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to send an 8-8 game into the top of the eighth inning.

Kearney, Neb. – The 22nd-ranked Nebraska Kearney women's tennis team won four singles matches in straight sets to upset 14th-ranked Washburn, <a href="https://lopers.com/sports/womens-tennis/stats/2024-25/washburn/boxscore/8394">4-2</a>, in an NCAA Central Regional second round match Tuesday in Topeka.&nbsp;

The third seeded Lopers (20-5), who beat Central Oklahoma on Monday, advance to the "<a href="https://www.ncaa.com/news/tennis-women/article/2025-05-13/2025-ncaa-dii-womens-tennis-championship-bracket-scores-schedule">Sweet 16"</a> in Altamonte Springs, Fla., for a second consecutive season. They'll play an opponent to be determined on May 21 (Wednesday) with duals held every day until the National Championship May 25. UNK now has 11 all-time NCAA wins with the 2008 and 2009 Loper squads having back-to-back Sweet 16 trips as well. Last year, the Lopers reached the Elite 8 for the first time behind seniors Melisa Becerra and Jazmin Zamorano.

Earlier this year at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center, Washburn (17-4) beat UNK by a 4-3 score as they took the doubles point and then won in straight sets at one, three and five singles. Today, they again won doubles but almost had a completely new singles lineup.

The Lopers, who lost 6-3 and 6-2 at one and two doubles, fell behind 2-1 after a 7-6 (5), 6-1 loss at five singles. However, UNK won the first set in the other five matches to be in good shape.

Lincoln redshirt junior Clare Plachy notched the first team point at six (-3, -4), Colorado senior Alexis Bernthal rolled at four (-2, -4) with Zimbabwe sophomore Tanya Midzi almost winning at the same time at three (-3, -5). Finally, Madagascar senior Narindra Ranaivo closed the door on the 'Bods with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at two. She is up to 178 combined wins, most in school history. At one, 13th-ranked Fabiana Gamboa won the first set over 19th-ranked Renske Ubachs with that match going unfinished.

UNK's starting lineup is up to 651 career combined wins with Ranaivo, Bernthal and Hatouka all in the Top 11.

UNK Women's Tennis #22 Lopers return to NCAA Sweet 16 after road win at Washburn

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney track and field team has qualified two women and three men for the <a href="https://results.leonetiming.com/?mid=7870">2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships</a> May 22-24 in Pueblo, Colo.

Based on times and marks achieved throughout the spring, the top 22 in each individual event and the top 16 relays qualified; tiebreakers were used when needed.

Heading to Colorado are Kearney redshirt junior Lily Novacek (1st/hammer), Omaha junior Nick Abdalla (21st/steeplechase), Kansas junior Kenyon Forest (8th/javelin), Hastings sophomore Nolan Studley (4th/high jump) and Gothenburg freshman Madison Smith (7th/discus).

Novacek is in her fourth national meet (one indoor and three outdoor) and aiming to repeat her first-team All-American performance (8th in the weight throw) from this year's indoor championships. She leads D2 in the hammer by 10 feet and hopes to be UNK's sixth AA in the hammer; places one through eight in any event are good for first-team honors with nine through 12 named second-team AA's. Next, Studley returns to this meet after placing 10th last spring. He leaped a career-best 7-1 at the Concordia Invite in early April, cleared 7-0.50 at the Central Nebraska Challenge and recently went 6-8.25 at the Loper Twilight.

Forest also is a two-time NCAA qualifier as he finished 18th in the jav last spring. He had the second-best toss in school history (226-5) at the Loper Invite in mid-April to punch his ticket and had a heave of 214-9 at Concordia. Finally, both Abdulla and Smith are first-time NCAA track qualifiers. Abdalla, who ran at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships, reached Pueblo thanks to a great race at a California Last Chance meet with Smith throwing the discus 164-9 at Wichita State in April. She also won the MIAA title this year with an effort of 156-0.

B-6 District Track Results & State Qualifiers

ESPN announced Tuesday afternoon that Nebraska’s season-opening matchup with Cincinnati in Kansas City on Thursday, Aug. 28, will be televised on ESPN with kickoff set for 8 p.m. Central.&nbsp;

The Huskers and Bearcats will square off at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Nebraska’s first contest in the stadium since the 2006 Big 12 Championship game and NU’s first regular-season game in Kansas City since 1998. The matchup was originally scheduled as a Cincinnati home game before being moved to a neutral site. It marks just the second all-time meeting between the schools and the first since a 1906 matchup in Lincoln.

The matchup with Cincinnati in Kansas City marks Nebraska’s second neutral-site opener in four seasons after opening the 2022 season against Northwestern in Dublin, Ireland.&nbsp; It also marks the fourth time in the past five seasons Nebraska has opened the season either in Week Zero or on a Thursday night. Nebraska opened the 2023 season at Minnesota in a Thursday night contest.

Tuesday’s announcement is the first kickoff time set for the Huskers’ 2025 season. Additional game times and television designations for the upcoming season are expected to be announced by the end of May.

Tickets for the Cincinnati game are only available through Ticketmaster.com. Fans interested in ordering 2025 Husker football season tickets can join the Season Ticket Request list by visiting Huskers.com/tickets.&nbsp;

Huskers Open Under The Lights At Arrowhead In Season Opener

A Nebraska native with a long, successful history as a professional player, Marissa Kastanek will join the Nebraska women's basketball program as a graduate assistant manager for the 2025-26 season, Husker Head Coach Amy Williams announced on Monday, May 12.

“Marissa is a home run hire for our program," Williams said. "Our student-athletes can lean into her vast playing experience both collegiately and professionally.&nbsp; We have seen her utilize her positive, upbeat teaching style while coaching at many of our summer camps. We are excited to add her to our Husker family!”

Kastanek produced an impressive 12-year professional career in Poland, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Puerto Rico following a decorated college career at North Carolina State (2009-13). She also competed for the Polish National Team. She graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 2009, after competing her first two seasons at Crete High School.

Kastanek was a starting guard for VBW Arka Gdynia in Poland in 2024-25, averaging 9.6 points and 2.5 assists per game. She led Gdynia to a 15-3 record and a league championship in the Poland-OLBK. She also played in eight EuroCup games in 2024-25. Kastanek played continuously in Poland from 2015 to 2025, including her final six seasons with VBW Arka Gdynia.

"I am so excited to announce that I will be a Husker," Kastanek said. "I am so thankful to Coach Williams and the University for allowing me to step in and be a part of something special. I am so excited to share what I have learned over the years with the next generation of players. I could not think of a better place to start the next chapter of my life. Go Big Red!"

A four-year starter at NC State, Kastanek was a first-team All-ACC selection on the court for the Wolfpack after earning honorable-mention All-ACC accolades as both a sophomore and a junior. She was the 2010 ACC Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American while helping the Wolfpack to the 2010 NCAA Tournament. She was also a first-team ACC All-Tournament pick as a junior in 2012, while claiming a second-team ACC All-Tournament selection as a freshman in 2010.

She capped her college career as the HC Kennett Award winner presented annually to NC State's top athlete. She was also the runner-up in the 2013 State Farm 3-Point Championship at the NCAA Men's Final Four in Atlanta.

The 5-9 guard ranks among the top-10 scorers in North Carolina State history, coming in ninth with 1,655 points with 131 starts over 133 games for the Wolfpack, averaging 12.4 points per game over her career. She hit 240 career three-pointers (.359), while connecting on 80.3 percent of her free throws. She added 499 rebounds, 203 assists and 172 steals in her career.

A star in the classroom as well, Kastanek was a first-team CSC Academic All-American as a senior in 2013, after earning second-team Academic All-America honors in 2012. She was also a two-time ACC Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year (2012, 2013).&nbsp; A three-time CSC Academic All-District honoree, Kastanek also earned NCAA and ACC postgraduate scholarships. She majored in psychology with minors in coaching, sports science and Spanish at NC State, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.

Kastanek also represented the United States at the 2011 Pan Am Games, averaging 5.8 points over four games for Team USA in Guadalajara, Mexico. She tied for the team lead with six three-pointers.

Kastanek founded the WISDOM Fellowship for professional players in Europe in 2019, which continues to do charitable work around the globe.

This was the third straight meeting with UCO (14-6) as the two teams met in the regular season finale in Edmond, then played in the MIAA Tournament semifinals a week later in Springfield, Mo. The Lopers won in Oklahoma, 5-2, but the 'Chos turned the tables in Missouri, 4-2 and then won the following day to take the title and earn the MIAA's auto bid to the championships.&nbsp;Today, UNK reversed course from that dual by winning the doubles point. The Husker men are ranked fourth, and the women are ranked 19th.The men lead the nation in the high jump, javelin and decathlon event groups, and are top 10 in the discus, long jump, hammer and shot put. For the women, they top the high jump and javelin rankings, while second in shot put, sixth in pole vault and seventh in both discus and long jump.</p><p>Steinforth Secures Big Ten Weekly Honor</p><p>Nebraska track and field’s Steinforth was announced as the Big Ten Men’s Field Athlete of the Week by the conference office.</p><p>Steinforth, a senior from Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, scored the top world decathlon mark last weekend in Iowa, setting a new Drake Relays record of 8,265 points. Steinforth earned the 100m (10.65), long jump (7.90m, 25-11), shot put (15.28m, 50-1 ¾), 400m (47.96) and 100mH (14.09) event titles on his way to the decathlon win.</p><p>This marks Steinforth’s fourth career Big Ten weekly award, and as a team, the Huskers have won five awards this indoor and outdoor season combined.</p><p>Nebraska's 2025 Big Ten Track &amp; Field Weekly Awards</p><p>Dec. 18: Jenna Rogers, Co-Field Athlete of the WeekDec. 18: Dyson Wicker, Freshman of the Week</p><p>Feb. 26: Jacelyn Neighbors, Freshman of the Week</p><p>Feb. 26: Henry Zimmerman, Field Athlete of the Week</p><p>April 30: Till Steinforth, Field Athlete of the Week2024 Indoor Season Recap</p><p>The Husker men and women closed the indoor season inside the top 25, with the men finishing 12th and the women claiming 20th at the NCAA Championships. Out of 12 Husker entries, five earned First Team All-America honors by placing in the top eight.</p><p>The women saw three shot putters earn all-american status for the first time in school history and the women had six total all-americans, the most for the Huskers at the indoor championships since 2004. High Jumper Wilson became the first Husker indoor national champion since 2009, as he cleared an indoor PR and the third-highest mark in school history, 2.28m (7-5 ¾). With the win, Wilson grabbed his fourth first team all-america honor and wrapped up his senior indoor season with six event titles.&nbsp;</p><p>Axelina Johansson claimed her second shot put national championship and the first Husker indoor title since 2005, throwing 19.28m (63-3 ¼). The school-record holder earned her sixth all-america honor and finished the indoor season with five event titles. Henry Zimmerman finished eighth in the weight throw, Meyer placed eighth in the shot put and Micaylon Moore grabbed runner up in the triple jump to round out Nebraska’s First Team All-Americans.&nbsp;</p><p>At the Big Ten Championships, the Husker men finished fifth and the women placed sixth. Rogers (high jump), Wilson (high jump), Adria Navajon (heptathlon) and Johansson (shot put) brought in conference titles. Additionally, during the season, five Huskers set or improved their school records and 33 performances either broke into the all-time list for the first time or moved up the list during the indoor season.</p>
