CHADRON, Neb. – Tickets for Chadron State's 2025 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony dinner are on sale online, with just over a week between now and the event on Friday, September 26. The ceremony will take place in the Student Center Ballroom on campus at CSC. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the program set to start at 7 p.m.

Tickets to the event, which include dinner, are $25 for adults and $15 for children with a food plate. Children not requiring their own food plate can get in free. This class features, among other highlights, the first-ever CSC Hall of Famer in women's golf history (Malzahn), the first two Hall of Famers for CSC softball from the second era of the reinstated program (Hendricksen and Williams), a 1,000-point scorer (Busch) and four inductees that won team or individual RMAC championships (Stropko, Wendling, Holden and Smith). 

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony falls on the night before Chadron State's 2025 Homecoming football game against Colorado Mesa on September 27 at 1 p.m.

CSC Hall of Fame Ceremony set for Friday, tickets are available

Lincoln - Caden Mickelson fired an eight-under par 134 through 36 holes to lead the Nebraska men's golf team to the top of the team standings after the first day of the Git-R-Done Invitational at Firethorn Golf Club on Monday.

Mickelson (pronounced MIKE-ull-son), a true freshman from Kansas City, fired an opening-round 66 (-5) before adding a second-round 68 (-3) on the 7,077-yard, par-71 layout at Firethorn. He ended the day in second individually, two shots back of tournament leader Alex Lindstrom from Kansas State. Lindstrom unleashed an opening-round 63 (-8), before adding a 69 (-2) to sit two shots ahead of Mickelson on the leader board.

Junior Rudy Sautron matched Mickelson stroke-for-stroke in the opening round with a 66 (-5) before ending the day with a 70 (-1) to sit alone in third individually at 136 (-6).

The Huskers also received a strong opening-day performance from Brodie Cunningham. The sophomore from Glasgow, Scotland, carded rounds of even-par 71 and 67 (-4) to close the day in a tie for fourth at 138 (-4).&nbsp;

As a team, the Huskers posted a 549 (-19) over two rounds, including an opening-round 272 (-12), before a second-round 277 (-7). The Big Red own a 12-stroke lead over Kansas State, which finished the day at 561 (-7) with rounds of 275 and 286. Iowa State enters Tuesday's final round at third in the team standings at 562 (-6), while Wichita State sits in fourth at 565 (-3).

In addition to the three Huskers in the top five of the individual standings, Lincoln freshman Thomas Bryson enters Tuesday's final round in the top 10, after firing a second-round 67 (-4). He closed the day at 139 (-3) in a tie for seventh place while playing outside Nebraska's lineup.

Redshirt junior Evan McDermott also worked his way into the top 15 in the individual standings, with rounds of 69 (-2) and 72 (+1) to end the day at 141 (-1) in a tie for 14th.

The Git-R-Done Invitational will conclude with Tuesday's final round beginning at 8 a.m. (CT).

Three Huskers enter Final Round among Top Five individuals

CHADRON, Neb. – After stealing headlines on Saturday with a historic upset win, Chadron State earned a double weekly award, with quarterback Aidan Thompson and linebacker Logan O'Brien sweeping the RMAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively, as announced by the league office Monday. 

O'Brien has now won the defensive award in back-to-back weeks while Thompson took home top weekly honors after making his first career start at Chadron State, with both playing critical roles in CSC's upset win over No. 23-ranked Colorado School of Mines. The victory over the Orediggers was CSC's first since 2012 and the Eagles' first win over a ranked opponent since the 2018 season. 

Stepping up in place of starter DJ Ralph, who was out with a concussion, Aidan Thompson played efficient and effective football and made plays with both his arm and his legs. The Abilene, Texas native completed 17 of 27 passes for 144 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, finding Tommy Thomas twice and Devon Sundgren once for scores. 

Thompson also rushed six times for 106 net yards, including a 73-yard rushing TD that was the longest by a Chadron State quarterback since 1977. Thompson also had a 47-yard scamper which put the Eagles in the red zone for the eventual game-deciding touchdown.

Logan O'Brien nearly mirrored his Player of the Week-winning stat line once again versus the Orediggers. The redshirt senior finished with eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and another two quarterback hurries. 

O'Brien made a series of plays in the fourth quarter that helped thwart Mines's comeback attempts. He stuffed reigning RMAC Offensive Player of the Week Landon Walker in the backfield on 4th-and-1 to turn the ball over on downs back to CSC with the Eagles clinging to a four-point lead. O'Brien had a sack on the Orediggers' next possession, then effectively ended the game with a quarterback hurry on 3rd-and-10 to force an incompletion with seconds remaining.

New Mexico Highlands senior Mike Jones earned the RMAC's Special Teams Player of the Week award.

After the win over the Orediggers, Chadron State is in a two-way tie for first atop the RMAC standings with a 2-0 conference record. The Eagles will face Colorado Mesa at Elliott Field for homecoming this upcoming Saturday, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.

CSC's Thompson, O'Brien each earn RMAC Player of the Week honors

GOLDEN, Colo. – Sparked by quarterback Aidan Thompson's two runs for 120 yards and three touchdown passes, the Chadron State College football team scored 17 points in the first quarter and 17 points in the fourth quarter while upsetting No. 23-ranked Colorado School of Mines 34-28 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game played in Golden Saturday afternoon. 

It was the Eagles' first win over the Orediggers since 2012 and their first win over a ranked opponent since beating then-No. 14 Colorado Mesa 38-34 in 2018. It also was only the sixth time an RMAC team has defeated Mines, which has won seven RMAC championships in the last 10 seasons, in 57 games dating back to 2017 and only the seventh loss in 63 games at home for the Orediggers since the re-opening of Marv Kay Stadium in 2015.

With the Eagles' previous starter at quarterback, DJ Ralph, unable to clear concussion protocol, Oklahoma Baptist transfer Thompson made his first Chadron State start at quarterback and led a terrific all-around performance. Chadron State finished with 405 yards of offense and the defense limited the Orediggers to 302 net yards after Mines had averaged 477 yards in their first two games, both victories. 

The Eagles, now 2-2, scored touchdowns on their first two possessions for the second game in a row. They earned first downs on four of their first five plays while going 73 yards with Thompson connecting with wide receiver Tommy Thomas with a 13-yard pass for the touchdown. 

Next possession, Thompson initially looked to pass but took off running for a 73-yard rushing touchdown to net the second TD. On their third possession of the first quarter, the Eagles also added a 44-yard field goal by Wilson Yee with 38 seconds left in the opening period for their 17-0 lead. 

Chadron State threatened to open it up farther early in the second period, but a red zone pass thrown by redshirt freshman Wyatt Sprague was intercepted by Mines safety Joe Gonzales in the end zone. Mines managed four quick first downs after the pass theft, but had to settle for a 37-yard field goal by Preston Lee. 

The Orediggers cut the Eagles' lead to 17-10 with about four minutes left in the second quarter. A 30-yard pass from quarterback Joe Capra to Tyson Mauck was the big gainer and the same combination connected on a nine-yard touchdown pass. 

Lee's 28-yard field goal provided the only points for either team in the third period. But a 26-yard run by Mines' Braelon Tate helped set up a four-yard touchdown run by tailback Landon Walker on the second play of the fourth period, putting Mines ahead 20-17. 

The Eagles soon regained the lead with a 47-yard rushing burst from Thompson down to the Mines nine-yard line providing the impetus. Two plays later, Thompson threw a seven-yard scoring strike to Devon Sundgren. Yee's extra point put the Eagles ahead again, 24-20. 

One of the game's most crucial moments soon followed. Mines had a fourth and one at midfield and gave the ball to Walker. But the Eagles' defense led by linebacker Logan O'Brien stopped the 6-foot-2, 225-pound senior for no gain and the Eagles were back in business. 

A roughing the passer penalty against Mines preceded a 10-yard pass from Thompson to tight end Preston Pearson. Running back Daytuawn Pearson, no relation, gained nine yards before Thompson connected with Thomas on an eight-yard pass on a fade route to put the Eagles on top 31-20 with six minutes remaining after Yee added the PAT. 

It appeared the Eagles were going to blow the game wide open seconds later after Capra threw an interception to CSC safety Dax Yeradi, who returned the ball 23 yards to the Mines' 38. It was Yeradi's ninth career interception. 

But on the second play after the Eagles took over, Mines' cornerback Jackson Zimmerman hit Thompson, who fumbled. Orediggers linebacker Sean Gilbert picked up the pigskin and took it 88 yards to the end zone to cut CSC's advantage to 31-28 after the hosts succeeded in making a two-point conversion. 

With 4:18 still to play, it appeared the Eagles might be in danger of absorbing a heart-breaker, particularly when they were penalized on their first play from scrimmage. But on third and 10, redshirt freshman Quincey Ryker broke off a 15-yard run for a first down, allowing CSC to maintain possession. 

The Eagles continued to thrive when the Mines defense was assessed a pair of 15-yard penalties, helping CSC get in position for Yee to kick a 32-yard field goal with only 59 seconds left on the clock. 

The Orediggers got a final possession, but netted just five yards on two passes, were penalized again and after the clock ran out as Cooper Walton tackled an Oredigger receiver short of the first down on 4th-and-10, the Eagles had broken their 11-game losing streak to one of Division II's most successful programs. 

Despite being sacked twice, Thompson's two terrific runs gave the Abilene, Texas native 106 net yards rushing. His 73-yard run is the longest touchdown scored by a CSC quarterback since Brad Fults went 88 yards against Minot State in 1977. 

Ryker also gained 101 on 21 carries, helping the Eagles finish with 261 yards rushing. Daytuawn Pearson also ran for 26 crucial yards on six carries late in the game. 

Eight Eagles caught passes, led by Thomas's five for 49 yards and the two TDs. Preston Pearson had three receptions for 28 yards and Ryker had three for 25. 

CSC linebacker Cooper Walton was the game's leading tackler with 11, seven of them unassisted. O'Brien had eight tackles, including two sacks and two quarterback hurries. Still another linebacker, Reese Jacobs, and cornerback Jadon Brown were each credited with seven tackles and Ryder True and Yeradi with six apiece.

With 4:18 still to play, it appeared the Eagles might be in danger of absorbing a heart-breaker, particularly when they were penalized on their first play from scrimmage. But on third and 10, redshirt freshman Quincey Ryker broke off a 15-yard run for a first down, allowing CSC to maintain possession. The Eagles continued to thrive when the Mines defense was assessed a pair of 15-yard penalties, helping CSC get in position for Yee to kick a 32-yard field goal with only 59 seconds left on the clock. The Orediggers got a final possession, but netted just five yards on two passes, were penalized again and after the clock ran out as Cooper Walton tackled an Oredigger receiver short of the first down on 4th-and-10, the Eagles had broken their 11-game losing streak to one of Division II's most successful programs. Despite being sacked twice, Thompson's two terrific runs gave the Abilene, Texas native 106 net yards rushing. His 73-yard run is the longest touchdown scored by a CSC quarterback since Brad Fults went 88 yards against Minot State in 1977. Ryker also gained 101 on 21 carries, helping the Eagles finish with 261 yards rushing. Daytuawn Pearson also ran for 26 crucial yards on six carries late in the game. Eight Eagles caught passes, led by Thomas's five for 49 yards and the two TDs. Preston Pearson had three receptions for 28 yards and Ryker had three for 25. CSC linebacker Cooper Walton was the game's leading tackler with 11, seven of them unassisted. O'Brien had eight tackles, including two sacks and two quarterback hurries. Still another linebacker, Reese Jacobs, and cornerback Jadon Brown were each credited with seven tackles and Ryder True and Yeradi with six apiece.

With just over 30 seconds left in the match, senior defender Lauryn Anglim took a corner kick straight into the net to help the Nebraska soccer team draw, 1-1, with the No. 8 Penn State Nittany Lions on Thursday evening in University Park, Pa.

Anglim took a shot on goal with less than a minute to go, which was tipped out of play by PSU’s goalie, to lead to the NU corner kick. The senior then curved the corner kick into the top left corner of the net to make the score 1-1.

The draw preserved the Huskers’ (5-0-4, 0-0-2 Big Ten) undefeated season. Penn State moved to 5-2-2 on the season with a 1-0-1 mark in conference competition.

The game was a defensive battle, as the Big Red took eight shots to Penn State’s nine. NU outdid the Nittany Lions in shots on goal, 4-3. Nebraska also had seven corner kick opportunities and only allowed one for PSU. Anglim led the Huskers with two shots, both on goal. Sadie Waite and Ella Rudney each added a shot on goal.&nbsp;

Cece Villa (4-0-4) played all 90 minutes in goal and logged two saves.&nbsp;

Penn State took a 1-0 lead into the break after a Kaitlyn MacBean goal.&nbsp;

The Huskers took just two shots in the first period, both of which were on goal. Ella Rudney had a scoring opportunity as the first half clock wound down, but her shot was saved by the Nittany Lion goalkeeper.&nbsp;

The Big Red will finish out its road trip with a match against the No. 22 Ohio State Buckeyes on Sunday, Sept. 21. The contest will kick off at 11 a.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+.

Keanrey, Neb. – The fifth-ranked Nebraska Kearney volleyball team got 28 combined kills from outsides Emilee Lane and Carly Purdy to sweep Truman State (-15, -20, -17) Thursday night in Kirksville, Mo.

This was the first of three matches in three days for UNK (10-0) as they travel to Illinois-Springfield Friday night and face Maryville (Mo.) Saturday morning at UIS.

The TSU Bulldogs (2-7) are glad they are a former MIAA member as they were previously swept by Emporia, Washburn, Missouri Western and Pitt State while owning a four-set win over Newman.

Lane (Hays, Kan.) and Purdy (North Platte) continued their torrid start to the season as they reached their combined kill total in 55 swings (.382 pct.). Purdy went for 16 kills and added two digs and two solo blocks with Lane having three digs. Next, sophomore right side Brynn Stowell (Olathe, Kan.) hit .348 and reached 11 kills for a second straight match with All-American setter Peyton Neff (North Platte) helping UNK hit .286 and seeing seven teammates record a kill. She finished with 42 assists, seven digs, two kills and an ace.

Defensively, senior DS Aleena Peterson (Kansas City, Mo.) had the second most digs of her Loper career (12) with junior Ellie Spang (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) at nine, two assists and a rare kill. Finally, Truman was led by senior middle Makayla Way (10 kills, .588 pct., three blocks and two digs).

Nebraska high school football scheduling has been a topic of conversation throughout the state for some time.&nbsp;

Thursday, the NSAA Board of Directors voted unanimously (8-0) to approve schedule changes for Class A football in the upcoming two-year cycle (2026-27).&nbsp;

Those changes include eliminating districts and using the previous two seasons’ wild card points as part of the guidance the NSAA, specifically NSAA Assistant Director Nate Neuhaus, uses to create the next two-year scheduling cycle.&nbsp;

Football is the only NSAA-sanctioned sport that uses the NSAA to create a statewide schedule for all schools.&nbsp;

The reason for the Approved Ruling, submission by the working competition committee (Class A school administrators), is the timing.&nbsp;

An Approved Ruling can circumvent the NSAA’s legislative process if a majority of schools in the specific class (A, B, C1, D1, D2, D6) are in agreement. For example, the board approved using shot clocks in basketball with an Approved Ruling by Class A schools only at first.&nbsp;

In the most recent scheduling cycle (2024-25), the NSAA requested schools make a declaration of participation or classification (11-man, 8-man, 6-man) before Nov. 30, 2023.&nbsp;

After collecting that data, district assignments for the 2024-25 football season were made using the previous two years’ wild card points and the serpentine method to put teams in their five or six districts, with the district champion and runner-up being automatic qualifiers to the state playoffs.

With the changes, the automatic qualifiers are gone, the top 16 teams in wild card points will make the Class A playoffs.&nbsp;

On Dec. 12, 2023, classifications and district assignments for the 2024 and 2025 football seasons were released.&nbsp;Schools were then asked to submit a priority list of non-district schools they would like to have on their 2024 and 2025 football schedules.&nbsp;

The one addition to the Approved Ruling that the board approved on Thursday is for the upcoming scheduling cycle. Schools will expand their priority list of opponents from four or five in previous years to, in some cases, seven or eight.Neuhaus and the staff at the NSAA will then use the wild card points from the previous two seasons to create evenly matched schedules using the priority lists as guidance. One thing that will do is keep traditional rivalries.&nbsp;

The elimination of districts will balance the schedules into tiers or buckets, if you will. Those will be the top 10-14 teams, depending on the number of schools in Class A each cycle.

With this approved for the 2026-27 scheduling cycle, Class A schools will play a schedule similar to what they have played the first four weeks of the season in the current scheduling cycle and eliminate the serpentine method, which forced lopsided matchups the last five weeks of the season.&nbsp;

Jackson Benge and Brodie Cunningham continued their solid play early in the fall season by claiming top-15 individual finishes to lead the Nebraska men's golf team to a fourth-place showing at the Bearcat Invitational in Cincinnati on Tuesday.

Benge, a sophomore out of Omaha Westside High School, finished as one of Nebraska's top individual finishers for the third consecutive tournament to open the fall by tying for 14th with a three-round total of 212 (-1). Benge closed with a final-round 73 (+2) Tuesday after opening with rounds of 69 (-2) and 70 (-1) Monday on the 7,279-yard layout of the Coldstream Country Club.

Fellow sophomore Brodie Cunningham (Glasgow, Scotland) matched Benge stroke for stroke, with matching rounds of 69 (-2), 70 (-1) and 73 (+2) to tie for 14th at 212 (-1). It was Cunningham's second straight top-15 showing.

Sautron, a junior from Reunion Island, France, fueled Nebraska's rise in the team standings over the final 36 holes that included NU's best round of the tournament with a 68 (-4) on Tuesday. Sautron, who settled for an opening-round 76 (+5), opened Monday's second round with six straight birdies on Nos. 10-15 to card a 69 (-2). He finished in a tie for 23rd in the final individual standings at 213 (E), vaulting 20 spots up the leader board in the final round.

Caden Mickelson added three consistent rounds of 72 (+1) to finish at 216 (+3) in a tie for 40th in the 96-player field. Mickelson started the final round on fire with birdies on three of his first four holes (No. 3, 4, 6) before taking double-bogeys on No. 9 and No. 11. He finished his round with nine consecutive pars.&nbsp;

As a team, the Huskers closed at 853 (+1) with rounds of 286, 281 and 286. The hosts from Cincinnati took the team title at 834 (-18), while Little Rock finished second at 845 (-7). Arkansas edged the Big Red by two strokes at 851 (-1).

In a strong 18-team field, the Huskers picked up wins over Big Ten counterparts Ohio State (856) and Maryland (866) along with wins over Louisville (854) from the ACC, Kentucky (859) from the SEC and Kansas (858), TCU (866), UCF (872) and Iowa State (873) from the Big 12.

Furman's Harris Barth took home medalist honors at 204 (-9), while John Daly II was the tournament runner-up at 207 (-6), three strokes behind Barth.

In other tournament action Tuesday, Evan McDermott and Bryson Oots earned top-five finishes at the Bluejay Invitational at Shadow Ridge Country Club in Omaha. McDermott carded solid rounds of 70, 70 and 71 to finish at 211 (-5), while Oots added back-to-back rounds of 69 (-3) Monday before closing with a 73 Tuesday to match McDermott in a tie for fifth at 211 (-5). McDermott's effort included an eagle on the par-5 12th hole on Tuesday, while Oots fired an eagle of his own on the par-4 14th hole in Monday's opening round.

Benge closed with a final-round 73 (+2) Tuesday after opening with rounds of 69 (-2) and 70 (-1) Monday on the 7,279-yard layout of the Coldstream Country Club.Fellow sophomore Brodie Cunningham (Glasgow, Scotland) matched Benge stroke for stroke, with matching rounds of 69 (-2), 70 (-1) and 73 (+2) to tie for 14th at 212 (-1). It was Cunningham's second straight top-15 showing.Sautron, a junior from Reunion Island, France, fueled Nebraska's rise in the team standings over the final 36 holes that included NU's best round of the tournament with a 68 (-4) on Tuesday. #5 Lopers sweep York, go 6-0 on homestand

OMAHA, Neb. - The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team went on the road and picked up a 3-2 (25-17, 21-25, 25-18, 24-26, 15-9) victory at No. 18 Creighton on Tuesday night at CHI Health Center Omaha.&nbsp;

The official attendance for the match at CHI Health Center Omaha was 17,675, an NCAA record for an indoor regular-season match.&nbsp;

The Huskers improved to 9-0 on the season heading into their final non-conference match against Arizona on Saturday. Creighton dropped to 5-5, though all five losses are to ranked teams.&nbsp;

Harper Murray had 17 kills and 10 digs, while Virginia Adriano sparked the Big Red with 13 kills on .320 hitting with a pair of aces. Andi Jackson chipped in 13 kills on .400 hitting with four blocks. Taylor Landfair added 12 kills, and Rebekah Allick had seven kills.

Bergen Reilly recorded 43 assists and 19 digs. Reilly moved to No. 6 in school history in career assists in the rally scoring era, passing Rachel Holloway. Olivia Mauch had a career-high 16 digs.&nbsp;

Nebraska hit .250, while Creighton hit .173. Ava Martin led the Jays with 16 kills.&nbsp;

Set 1: Nebraska's first lead came at 8-7 after back-to-back kills by Murray and Jackson. Kills by Landfair, Jackson and Reilly helped the Huskers to a 15-12 lead at the media timeout. Murray tipped a kill from the back row after the break, and the Huskers went up 17-12. Allick added a kill, and Murray and Jackson teamed up for a stuff block to make it 21-15. Murray and Jackson tacked on consecutive kills, and a Landfair kill and Jackson ace ended the set, 25-17.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Set 2: Creighton jumped out to a 3-0 lead, and while the Huskers tied it 3-3, the Bluejays controlled the early portion of the set. CU led 10-7 when Landfair and Allick struck back-to-back kills to cut it to 10-9. But CU answered with a 4-1 run and led 15-11 at the media timeout. The Jays pushed the lead to 17-12 and then 19-13 as the Huskers used their second timeout. Landfair and Murray scored three straight points to cut it to 20-17 and force a Creighton timeout. A service error and attacking error by Creighton let NU within two, and Murray roofed a Bluejay attack to cut the deficit to one, 22-21, as Creighton used its final timeout. But a service error by the Huskers and an ace by the Jays earned them set point, 24-21, and Creighton won 25-21.&nbsp;

Set 3: Adriano and Jackson each had a pair of kills to put NU up 5-3. Allick and Murray recorded kills to make it 10-7. Back-to-back kills by Adriano set off a 9-1 Husker run that made it 19-9. Adriano added another kill before two in a row by Murray, and an ace by Adriano had the Huskers up 19-9. Jackson sent one to the floor for a 20-11 lead, and a block by Allick and Landfair had NU ahead 22-12. Creighton scored four in a row, three via NU hitting errors, to pull within 22-16. A service error ended the CU run, and Adriano's sixth and seventh kills of the set earned the 25-18 win.&nbsp;

Set 4: The Huskers separated from a tightly contested beginning to go up 15-11 after a 4-0 run, keyed by Murray and Landfair kills. The Bluejays answered with a 5-1 run to tie it 16-16, and they claimed an 18-17 lead after a Husker hitting error. The teams traded sideouts for the next five rallies to a 20-20 tie after a block by Murray and Jackson, and Creighton hit wide for a 21-20 Husker advantage. The Bluejays then went under the net to make it 22-20 NU. Creighton answered with three straight points go up 23-22. The teams traded service errors to give CU set point at 24-23, but Reilly and Jackson blocked an attack to even the score. Nebraska attacked wide for another Creighton set point, and Martin terminated for the 26-24 win.&nbsp;

Set 5: Creighton started the set with back-to-back aces. Adriano tallied two kills to get the Huskers even at 3-3. CU led 4-3 when Murray posted back-to-back kills and Creighton hit long for a 6-4 Husker advantage. After a Creighton timeout, Jackson hammered a kill to make it 7-4. Allick found the floor for a 9-5 lead. The Jays got within two, but a hitting error made it 11-8 Big Red, and a tough serve by Teraya Sigler led to Murray's 17th kill for a 12-8 lead. Reilly set Allick for a 13-8 advantage, and Creighton hit long for match point. The Huskers finished off a 15-9 win on an Allick kill. &nbsp;&nbsp;

A service error and attacking error by Creighton let NU within two, and Murray roofed a Bluejay attack to cut the deficit to one, 22-21, as Creighton used its final timeout. A service error ended the CU run, and Adriano's sixth and seventh kills of the set earned the 25-18 win.&nbsp;Set 4: The Huskers separated from a tightly contested beginning to go up 15-11 after a 4-0 run, keyed by Murray and Landfair kills. The Bluejays answered with a 5-1 run to tie it 16-16, and they claimed an 18-17 lead after a Husker hitting error. The teams traded sideouts for the next five rallies to a 20-20 tie after a block by Murray and Jackson, and Creighton hit wide for a 21-20 Husker advantage. The Bluejays then went under the net to make it 22-20 NU. Creighton answered with three straight points go up 23-22. The teams traded service errors to give CU set point at 24-23, but Reilly and Jackson blocked an attack to even the score. Nebraska attacked wide for another Creighton set point, and Martin terminated for the 26-24 win.&nbsp;Set 5: Creighton started the set with back-to-back aces. Huskers hold off No. 18 Creighton in Five Sets

North Platte, Neb. – North Platte Community College volleyball opened Region IX play against No. 5 Northeastern Junior College on Tuesday night. The Knights fell in straight sets, 25-14, 25-16, 25-21 to the visiting Plainswomen.

Freshman Makenna Stephenson closed out the night with seven kills on 20 swings. Sophomore Nya Lual recorded six kills, while libero Zoe Maher led the defense with eight digs.

"I saw some glimpses of what we can do, but we need to be more consistent,” said head coach Alexa McCall. "We made some adjustments during the match, but we need to make them quicker.”

The Plainswomen came out firing and surged out to a 13-5 lead in the opening set. The Knights responded with a 3-0 run, but Northeastern held firm limiting NPCC to just 14 points to take a one set lead.

In the second set, the teams traded points early before North Platte took a brief 9-7 lead following a Northeastern attacking error. The Plainswomen quickly answered with a 5-0 run and never looked back, pulling away late to go up two sets.

The third set featured a tight battle, with the teams tied at 11-11. A solo block by Kiera Heaven Loe sparked a decisive run that sealed the sweep for the Plainswomen.
