Ira Dale Elder, age 88 of Aurora, NE formerly of Ogallala passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, at Memorial Care Center in Aurora, NE.&nbsp;

Ira Dale Elder was born August 14, 1936, to Ira and Dorothy (Keefer) Elder in Stuart, NE. He was baptized on March 28, 1937, in Atkinson, NE. At the age of five, his family moved to Ogallala, NE. where he attended school and graduated from Ogallala High School in 1955.&nbsp;

Dale was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Darlene Gordon on July 17, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ogallala. In 1958 a son, Barry Dale, was born to them.&nbsp;

Dale served with the military from April 30, 1956, to April 29, 1959, in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia where he taught liquid oxygen school. After discharge, Dale and his family moved back to Nebraska. Dale worked for Rolfsmeier Dairy in Seward, NE. He was confirmed and became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church on Feb. 26, 1963. A daughter Debra Jean was born in 1962 and a daughter Cheri Lynn was born in 1963.&nbsp;

In 1973 Dale and his family moved to Aurora, NE where he worked for Wortman Motors and later for Aurora Coop Elevator where he retired in 2004.&nbsp;

Camping and fishing with their children and grandchildren and the trips they took every year were his enjoyment, yard work and flowers were also an enjoyable part of his life. Music was always a part of his life and he played keyboard and guitar. &nbsp;Dale and Darlene loved to attend community camping events around Nebraska where they would perform gospel and county music together.&nbsp;

On July 17, 2006, Dale and Darlene celebrated their 50th anniversary.&nbsp;

Preceding Dale in death is his loving wife, Darlene; son Barry Elder; two sisters Lois Jean (Mrs. Rex) Peterson and Helen (Mrs. Willis) Peterson.&nbsp;

Left to cherish his memory include his two daughters, Debra and husband Wayne Wehmeier of Hampton, NE., and Cheri and husband Matthew Keyes of Omaha, NE; Grandchildren, JariAnn Dunekacke (Tom), Jordan Wehmeier, Jacob and Rachel Keyes and Katherine Elder. Great grandchildren Parker Dale Dunekacke and Dylan Dunekacke&nbsp;

Dale also has many nephews, nieces, and friends who will miss him.&nbsp;

A funeral service will be Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at St John's Lutheran Church of Ogallala, NE&nbsp; at 10:30 A.M. (MT) with Rev.&nbsp; Albert Bader officiating.&nbsp;

Internment will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.&nbsp;

Ira Dale Elder (1936-2024)

Byron E. Daly, 92, passed away September 26, 2024 at Gothenburg Health. &nbsp;He was born May 28, 1932 in a home near Hat Creek Stage Station in Wyoming to Charles E. and Hazel (Winters) Daly. &nbsp;

Byron had four brothers and two sisters. &nbsp;The family moved back to the Tryon area in 1953 where he attended school and graduated from Tryon High School with the class of 1949. &nbsp;Byron married Wanda F. Allen of Stapleton on September 17, 1950 in North Platte. &nbsp;

Byron worked on ranches in the Arthur, Tryon, and Stapleton area. &nbsp;He enjoyed team roping and travelling. &nbsp;In 1971, Byron became a part time brand inspector. &nbsp;He liked it well enough that he became a full-time inspector in 1973. &nbsp;They moved him to Thedford, Kearney, and Broken Bow. &nbsp;After 25 years of brand inspecting, he retired and Byron and Wanda moved to Stapleton with Wanda passing away in 1996.

Survivors include son, Dan (Deb) Daly of Mullen; daughter, Kristy (Dan) Kramer of Stapleton; son-in-law, Joe Downing of Seneca; sister, Vera (Bill) Jividen of Stapleton; grandchildren, Jillana (Chris Valentino) Downing, Nancee (Mike) Welling, Kodi (Greg) Weigel, Kylee (Ty) Duncan, Kaylee (Julian) Assibey; great grandchildren, Leonardo Valentino , Matteo Valentino, Ainslee (Camryn) Morrison, Kwade Welling, AbbyGayle Welling, Kinley (Lucas) Simmons, Kole Weigel, Arriana Duncan, Sophia Duncan, Malachi Assibey, Elijah Assibey; great great grandchildren, Violet Erickson, Ryker Erickson, Alora Simmons; numerous other family members and friends.

Byron was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; daughter, Gayle; brothers, Walter (Emory), Lloyd (Swede), Clinton (Heavy) and Richard (Dick); sister, Phyllis Priest. &nbsp;

Wanda&nbsp;Franklin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully September 26, 2024, at Prairie View Gardens in Kearney. &nbsp;Wanda lived a full life marked by her faith, love for the family farm, her family, her generosity to the community and her unwavering strength.

Wanda was born September 22, 1933, in Wallace. &nbsp;She married her high school sweetheart, Lowell Franklin on December 27, 1951. &nbsp;To his loving union three children were born: Mark, Carol and Kurt. &nbsp;Lowell preceded her in death in 1998.

In 2001, Wanda moved to Kearney. &nbsp;She met and later married Leonard Skov and they were together until he passed away.

Wanda grew up with a passion for helping others, which she carried throughout her life. &nbsp;Known for her warm spirit and dedication to her loved ones, Wanda always put others first and brought joy to everyone she encountered. &nbsp;Whether through her kind words or thoughtful gestures, Wanda's presence was a source of comfort and inspiration.

Wanda was also preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Donna Clemens.

Wanda's legacy of kindness, love and resilience will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. &nbsp;She is survived by her children, Mark, (Lynell) Franklin, Carol (Curt) Wegner and Kurt Franklin (Natalie Jahnke); grandchildren, Jason (Shawna) Franklin, Jeremy Franklin (Lyndsey Stevens), Dave (Tiffany) Favinger, Dustin (Lindsey) Favinger, Ashley Franklin, Mariah (Tyler) Wiseman, &nbsp;Casey Wegner, Carly (Zach) Claussen; great-grandchildren, Paige, Colt and Joe Franklin, Riley, Haylee and Eddie, Johnathan, Blaine and Josie Franklin, Boone and Bodey, Jaden and Kinsley Favinger, Dylan Favinger, Lucas and Whitney Wiseman, Evelyn Wegner, and Maxwell and Logan Claussen; and a wide circle of friends who cherished her deeply.&nbsp;

Wanda Franklin (1933-2024)

Linda B. Straka (Fuehrer) passed away on September 14, 2024, at Hampden Hills Post Acute Care Center in Aurora, CO. Linda was born on October 8, 1952, in Imperial, NE. She was the daughter of the late Edwin and Dorothy Fuehrer. Linda attended District #22, in rural Chase County and graduated from Chase County High School in 1970. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Y-Teens, the “Longhorn” paper staff, and Junior class play. Linda married Ted Colton in Imperial in 1978. She married Timothy Straka in Aurora, CO in 1995. They later divorced.&nbsp;

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE, she taught high school in Imperial, NE and Denver, CO. She later transitioned to a career with Mutual of Omaha in Omaha, NE. &nbsp;

Beyond her professional life, Linda was passionate about sewing and jewelry making, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her artistic nature. Linda accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior later in her life and loved reading her Bible. &nbsp;

Linda is survived by her three siblings: Paula, and her husband, Terry Clifton, of Fort Collins, CO; Mark Fuehrer, and his wife, Debra, of Lincoln, NE; and Kurt Fuehrer of Imperial, NE. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

A family graveside service, to honor Linda, will be held at a later date. Linda was in Hospice care the last few months of her life. We suggest any memorial gifts be given to your local Hospice organization.&nbsp;

Jacob Dean Byrd (1988-2024)

Joan Elaine (Nelson) Mahnken, age 84 of Ogallala, NE passed away, Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Ogallala Community Hospital in Ogallala, NE.

Joan was called Jo and she always had fun telling everyone she didn’t care what she was called; “Jo, Joanne, or whatever” as she would say.

Joan was born in Lewellen, NE to Walter and Dorothy (Evans) Nelson Garner on September 13, 1940, and was very proud that she was born on Friday the 13th. In 1942 the family moved to Otis, CO where she attended school until 1955 then moved to Ogallala, NE with her mother and two brothers and attended Ogallala School. As a teenager she worked as a car hop at Tastee Snack.

Joan was baptized on April 6, 1941, and Confirmed on April 11, 1954, at the Presbyterian church in Otis, CO. She then joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogallala, NE on December 28, 1961 and later transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church South of Ogallala.

On October 1, 1961, Joan married Walter Mahnken at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogallala, NE.

In the early 1960s, she worked as a maid at the new Holiday Inn. She was a housewife, a cook, and lunch counter manager at Variety Center for Jon and Pat Davis from 1974 to 1998 where she received the Employee of the Month Award. She also worked at Sixth Street and Sun Mart off and on for 10 years and worked at A&amp;W from 1998-2006. She lived on the farm until 1993 when she moved into Ogallala and was still active on the farm until 2023.

Joan was a Volunteer at the Senior Center and other places, she enjoyed all the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League events being an officer in local, Zone, and District, and attended District and National conventions which she thoroughly enjoyed, and loved attending Church. She had also been a member of the K&amp;P Extension Club, and Blue Bells 4-H club leader.

She enjoyed playing cards, reading, and using her computer - that was her fun time.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter; her brother Martin Nelson and her grandparents.

Joan is survived by the family she loved so much; her two daughters Dianne Elaine (Les) Peterson and Sheila Marie Mahnken both of Ogallala, NE.; one brother Bill (Phyllis) Nelson of Lincoln, NE; Grandchildren Leslie Deanne Peterson of Sitka, Alaska, Robert Alan (Marta) Peterson of Hastings, NE, and Joshua Alan Shallow of Iowa. Great- Grandchildren Rory Marie Peterson, Blake Le Ann Peterson, and Alexis Shallow; several nieces and nephews, Rebecca (Dan) Padilla, Vicki Lierhammer, Greg (Laura) Nelson, Eric (Gina) Nelson, Sean (Ashley) Nelson, and great nephews and nieces, and many more family and friends which she enjoyed.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 27, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 P.M at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel of Ogallala.

Funeral Services will be on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Jon Dickmander officiating.

Internment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her memory.

 </figure>Joan Elaine (Nelson) Mahnken, age 84 of Ogallala, NE passed away, Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Ogallala Community Hospital in Ogallala, NE.Joan was called Jo and she always had fun telling everyone she didn’t care what she was called; “Jo, Joanne, or whatever” as she would say.Joan was born in Lewellen, NE to Walter and Dorothy (Evans) Nelson Garner on September 13, 1940, and was very proud that she was born on Friday the 13th. In 1942 the family moved to Otis, CO where she attended school until 1955 then moved to Ogallala, NE with her mother and two brothers and attended Ogallala School. As a teenager she worked as a car hop at Tastee Snack.Joan was baptized on April 6, 1941, and Confirmed on April 11, 1954, at the Presbyterian church in Otis, CO. She then joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogallala, NE on December 28, 1961 and later transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church South of Ogallala.On October 1, 1961, Joan married Walter Mahnken at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogallala, NE.In the early 1960s, she worked as a maid at the new Holiday Inn. She was a housewife, a cook, and lunch counter manager at Variety Center for Jon and Pat Davis from 1974 to 1998 where she received the Employee of the Month Award. She also worked at Sixth Street and Sun Mart off and on for 10 years and worked at A&amp;W from 1998-2006. She lived on the farm until 1993 when she moved into Ogallala and was still active on the farm until 2023.Joan was a Volunteer at the Senior Center and other places, she enjoyed all the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League events being an officer in local, Zone, and District, and attended District and National conventions which she thoroughly enjoyed, and loved attending Church. She had also been a member of the K&amp;P Extension Club, and Blue Bells 4-H club leader.She enjoyed playing cards, reading, and using her computer - that was her fun time.She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter; her brother Martin Nelson and her grandparents.Joan is survived by the family she loved so much; her two daughters Dianne Elaine (Les) Peterson and Sheila Marie Mahnken both of Ogallala, NE.; one brother Bill (Phyllis) Nelson of Lincoln, NE; Grandchildren Leslie Deanne Peterson of Sitka, Alaska, Robert Alan (Marta) Peterson of Hastings, NE, and Joshua Alan Shallow of Iowa. Joan Mahnken (1940-2024)

A quiet man has left this world of pain and turmoil for an exceedingly better one of joy and celebration. Gerald Lee Werner, born November 1, 1926, departed this earthly life on September 23, 2024, in Grant, Nebraska.

He was a man of determined conviction that anything was worth doing correctly, a man of great humor mixed with a little bit of orneriness, and a completely humble man of all things he did throughout his long life. The second-born to Henry J "Hank" and Amanda (Fuchshuber) Werner and baptized in the Christian faith in Seward, NE, the family moved to Grant, NE, when he was five years old, where he graduated from high school. Gerald served in the U.S. Air Force until his honorable discharge following WWII. He returned to Grant, where he worked in the family construction business with his father and brother, Omer. Shortly thereafter, he met and married his bride of 73 years, Bernadine Anne "Bernie" Reiselman, on June 1, 1951. To this union one daughter, Shelly Ann was born to give them joy and teach them patience beyond their wildest imagination.

As a civil servant, Gerald obtained a job with the local post office, from which he retired 34 years later. Those lucky enough to have him as their carrier saw him as a true example of the motto, "Neither hail, nor rain, nor sleet, nor snow..." In his free time, he built the house that he and his wife lived in and took great pride in maintaining it. He was involved in the building of Zion Lutheran Church in Grant (the original building and each new one), and he also served as a congregational trustee for many years.

He was an avid sports enthusiast of the local and NU teams, attending all he could until he was unable. He served as bowling league secretary for both the Grant and Ogallala bowling alleys at a time when all stats were done manually. He was also a member and held various offices in the Grant Cemetery Board, Grant Golf Course Board, Nebraska Association of Rural Mail Carriers, and the local American Legion.

Gerald helped friends and family in any way he could, most likely with his carpentry skills and ingenuity of jury-rigging until the correct method of repair could be obtained.

Gerald said he never expected to outlive nearly all of his friends and family, but those of us who are still here will live on with many great memories. May he rest in peace in the Lord's House.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Bernie of Grant; daughter, Shelly (Paul) Shellabarger; 2 grandchildren, Cody (Becky) Shellabarger and Katie (Tyrone) Beasley; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Karen Brown; sister-in-law, Fern Troy, along with many nieces and nephews.

Gerald L. Werner (1926-2024)

Todd Allen Schumer, age 54, of Wallace, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at The Birch in Sutherland.

Todd was born on March 18, 1970, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Leonard and Coleen (LaLonde) Schumer. He graduated from Wallace High School in 1988 and earned an associate's degree in Colorado Springs.

Following his education, Todd moved to Ogallala, where he worked at the Super 8 motel for nearly a decade. He later lived and worked in Denver and Grand Island, holding desk clerk positions at various motels, including the Mainstay Inn. In 2022, Todd returned to Wallace as his health declined, eventually moving to Imperial Manor and then Sutherland.

Todd was a hardworking man who was quiet by nature and preferred the background to the spotlight. Despite his soft-spoken demeanor, when Todd spoke, people listened. He enjoyed collecting Southwest-themed items and playing Bingo. Todd was also a devoted Madonna fan.

Todd was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wallace, where he had served many Masses, alongside his brother, as a boy.

Todd was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Schumer; grandparents, Norbert and Beatrice Schumer, and Frank and Dixie LaLonde; as well as his aunt, Loretta Weiss, and uncle, LaVern Schumer.

Survivors include his mother, Coleen Schumer of Wallace; brother, Brad Schumer of North Platte; nephews, Gavin Manery Schumer and Kasen Manery Schumer; many cousins, relatives, and friends.

Todd Allen Schumer (1970-2024)

Eleanor May (Molzahn) Wagner was born May 19, 1931 to Emil and Carrie (Weiss) Molzahn. She was baptized May 20, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, Nebraska by Pastor Fred A. Elze and confirmed on May 20, 1945 by Pastor Herbert J. Schulenburg also at Zion Lutheran Church. She was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She attended school at rural District 23, Imperial Grade School and Chase County High School.

Eleanor married Arthur Wagner on February 5, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Walter A. Meyer. Four children blessed this union.

Eleanor taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She belonged to Fireman’s Auxiliary, Garden Club and Senior Saints.

Eleanor cleaned houses and her house was always spotless. She worked at Arnison’s clothing store and Colonial Kitchen.

She enjoyed gardening and crafting with her husband Art. She also enjoyed reading and sewing and sewed clothing for children and grandchildren. In her later years she did a lot of embroidery work.

Eleanor Passed away at Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 21, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Bertha Molzahn and Evelyn McCormick and brothers Herman Molzahn and Edward Molzahn; grandsons Jonathan Wagner and Alan Wagner; and grandson-in-law Nick Ryan.

Survivors include her husband, Art; her children Mike (Deb) of Longmont, Colorado, Terry (Joan) of Imperial, Nebraska, Tim (Cynthia) of Beatrice, Nebraska and Gina (John) Allen of Bozeman, Montana: Grandchildren Alicia (Daniel) Terrill, Amanda (Ken) Allen, Angela Wagner, Audra (Ryan) Clark, Crystal Wagner, Teresa (Tim) Ledford, Sheena (Daniel) Smith: Liz (Jeff) Elgan, Timothy (Holly) Wagner. Eleanor May Wagner (1931-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott L Porter, 52, reunited with his dad, Gary, unexpectedly on September 18, 2024. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, grandpa, and coach/teammate/friend, who will be deeply missed by all.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott was born on March 25, 1972 in Hastings, NE. He graduated from Clay Center High School in 1990 and went on to play football and pursue his Bachelor’s of Science in Education at Wesleyan University. Scott met Tandi (Kramer) in Lincoln, NE in 1996 and they were united in marriage on May 23, 1998. He took his first teaching/coaching position at Silver Creek, NE in 1997, which later consolidated to Twin River. While in Silver Creek, Scott and Tandi started a family with two beautiful girls: Bailee and Shaye. In 2004, Scott and Tandi moved to Blue Hill to continue his career, where they were blessed with two more daughters: Karstyn and Bentlee. In 2015, Scott’s career led him to Cambridge, NE. Scott continued his career at Hitchcock County in 2018, where this would unknowingly be his final field. This is also where he was proud of his new role of becoming a grandpa.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott’s lifelong passion was sports, where he was known for his dedication to offer his guidance and support to the youth. He was a devoted dad. In his free time, he enjoyed following his girls in their activities, coaching young men and women on the field or on the court, spending time with his dear friends and family whether it be playing cornhole, going to the lake, watching football, chasing storms or just sharing stories.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Coach Porter’s greatest accomplishments started in high school where his team was the state champion in 1986. As a high school and college player he received numerous accolades. As a football coach he was a four time state finalist with two state championships with over 90% of his seasons ending in the state playoffs.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Scott is survived by his loving wife, Tandi; children: Bailee, Shaye (Keaton) Soucek, Karstyn, and Bentlee; and his granddaughter, Porter Soucek; parents, Cindy and Duane Pool of Raymond Ne; sister, Lisa (Eric) Bales of Lincoln; in-laws, Chet (Danele) Kramer of Lemoyne, Karma Kramer of Arthur, NE, Margaret Kostman of Arthur, NE, Tara (Brian) Bender of Kearney, NE, Reed (Micki) Kramer of Oshkosh, NE, and Jalen (Jesse) Snyder of Salida, CO, and numerous “favorite” nieces and nephews, aunts/uncles/cousins.

&nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his dad, Gary Porter; grandparents, Dale “Tub” and Betty Porter and Veron and Gladys Head; aunts, Judy, Donna, and Marsha and uncle Terry.

Mary Jane Cohn, 97, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Linden Court.

Mary was born on March 20, 1927 in North Platte, NE the daughter of Clarence and Fern (Greeley) Stearns. &nbsp;

Mary grew up and attended school in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School. &nbsp;She married Wilbur “Shorty” M. Cohn on October 13, 1946 in Oberlin, KS and together they had 5 children. &nbsp;Mary was a member of the First Christian Church, Moose Club, Eagles Club, Old Timers, RSVP, R&amp;R, and the Shriner’s Auxiliary all in North Platte. &nbsp;She and her husband Shorty did a lot of traveling and camping over the years. &nbsp;She volunteered in recent years with the Thrift Center and Great Plains Health Hospital.

She is survived by her children, Dennis Cohn of Topeka, KS, Larry (Shirley) Cohn of North Platte, Kathy (Steve) Mentzer of North Platte, and Dannie Cohn of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Wendi, Brandon, Alicia, Melissa, Tracy, Cindy, Travis “T.J.”, Jeremy, Amber, Daniel, Nicole, Ashley, and Savannah; 26 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Claire Shields and Shirley Simpson both of Omaha; sister in laws, Jean Stearns of North Platte, and Laurel Cohn of Grand Island; daughter in law, Brenda Cohn of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane Cohn (1927-2024)

Stanley Eugene Bonde, 84, of Kearney, formerly of Callaway, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society - St. Johns in Kearney, Nebraska.

He was born on January 22, 1940, in Callaway, Nebraska to Oscar and Dorothy (Sterner) Bonde. He attended school in Callaway and graduated from Callaway High School with the class of 1958. After school, he entered into the Army Reserves where he spent six months on active duty. On August 3, 1962, Stanley was united in marriage to Judy Griffith and two boys were blessed to this union: Frankie and Jamie. Their marriage would later end in divorce. He spent the majority of his life living in Callaway until 2023, when he moved to Kearney.

Stanley enjoyed the simple things in life. He spent many years doing what he loved the most, farming and ranching. When it came time for him to slow down, he still managed the farm with his knowledge of market trends, cattle prices, and connections with those that rented his land. He still drove, stopped at Co-op, Peg Stryker would get him a Mountain Dew, and he would be off to check on land and cattle, and visit with farmers. In his free time, he enjoyed trips to Lake McConaughy, demo derbies, tractor pulls, and going to cattle and bull sales with his son, Frank.

Those left to honor his memory are his sons, Frank (Susie) Bonde of Kearney, and Jamie (Lori) Bonde of Callaway; grandchildren, Dylan (Kailey) Bonde, Tiana Bonde, and Ty Bonde, all of Callaway; great-grandchildren, Carson Bonde, Brooklyn Bonde, Brock Bonde, and Brianna Bonde, all of Callaway; sister, Mercedee (Rod) Clifton of Providence, Rhode Island, as well as extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar Bonde, Jr.

Stanley Eugene Bonde (1940-2024)

Leona Marie Loveless, 80, of Gothenburg, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 15, 1944, in Venango, Nebraska, to Edwin and Elnora (Suhr) Steinke. She attended school in Venango and graduated from Venango High School with the class of 1962. She transitioned to community college where she received her Associate degree in Business. On May 25, 1984, she was united in marriage to Carl William Loveless at the Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada, Colorado. They made their home in Arvada before moving to Lexington, Nebraska in 1995, where she spent many years working in the loans and receivings department at the Homestead Bank before retiring. In 2014, the couple made their home in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Leona loved spending her days outdoors, working on her garden, watching her stargazer lilies bloom, and taking an evening to go fishing. If she wasn't outside, she was meticulously working away on a quilt or playing cards with her friends and family. She enjoyed spending quality time with her children but always held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, making sure they felt her love wherever they were.

Leona was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington for many years until her move to Gothenburg, where she began attending their Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a woman with an unwavering faith which helped her endure and persevere during some of the toughest moments in life. She rarely missed a Sunday service. Over the years, she assisted with teaching Sunday school, managed finances at her local church, as well as being a member of their Bell Choir.

Those left to cherish her memory is her children, Peter (Roxanna) Graham of Omaha, Veronica (Gene) Shepherd of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Patty (Ian) Stewart of Maxwell, Nebraska; grandchildren, Sarah Marie Shepherd, Josephine Nicole Stewart, Trace William Stewart, and Kort James Stewart; sisters, Eileen (Larry) Lacy of Juanita, Nebraska, and Linda (Gary) Newth of Venango, Nebraska, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Leona Marie Loveless (1944-2024)

Robert Keith Brennan, known to many as "Bob," was born on November 5, 1951, in Brush, Colorado to John and Anna Mae (Randall) Brennan. Bob passed away on September 17, 2024, in Kearney, Nebraska. Bob's journey was one of relentless dedication and a passion for fishing and hunting that many will remember fondly.

From his formative years in Stratton, where he graduated from Stratton High School in 1970, Bob developed a character molded by hard work and traditional values. In his earlier days, he embraced the rugged life of truck driving and construction. Bob later lent his work ethic to Midlands Construction, though the call of the open road eventually led him back to owning his truck.

Life for Bob was not only about work; it thrived in the richness of familial bonds and friendships. His beloved wife, Linda Rains, whom he met in high school and the two were later married at St. Joseph Catholic Church on March 11, 1972. Linda stood by him as a partner in every sense of the word. Together they nurtured a family that filled their lives with abundant love and laughter. Bob cherished every moment spent with his children, creating lasting memories that will linger in the hearts of the entire family.

Bob's passions were woven deeply into the fabric of his life. He found joy in the wilderness, hunting and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to share his knowledge and love for nature. His heart soared with pride as he watched his grandchildren grow and shared with him the love of hunting and fishing. As a devoted leader in 4-H, he focused on shooting sports, guiding young minds into the beauty of the great outdoors and securing a sense of safety when it came to handling firearms. His commitment to the community didn’t stop there; he was actively involved in the Stratton Boy Scouts and served dutifully as Chief of the Stratton Volunteer Fire Department for several years, embodying the spirit of service that so many admired.

He had a special bond with his horse, Jack, and his favorite dog, A.J., companions that accompanied him through life's ups and downs. Bob's personality shone brightly with a sense of humor that endeared him to many. His laughter will echo in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him, a reminder of the warmth he brought into their lives.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda; his daughters, Jody (Adam) Parsons and Laci (Tommy) Glatfelter; his son, Clint (Dana); grandchildren, Caleb, Corey, Samantha, Emma, Parker, Ella, Hudson, and Huntley; brothers, Buck, Paul and Frank; and his sisters, Carol Hanes and Mary Brennan. Robert Keith Brennan (1951-2024)

&nbsp; Ruth ‘LaVonne’ Hudson, age 90, died peacefully on September 17, 2024, in Walnut Creek, CA. She was born on July 14, 1934, in Spearman, TX. LaVonne is survived by her daughter, Marta Lucille Hudson, brothers Butch Baker [Irene], Phillip Baker [Diana], and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Russell Baker, mother, Ruth Lucille Baker [Tevebaugh], husband, Donald Byron Hudson, son, Nicholas Byron Hudson, an infant son, and brother, Don Russell Baker [Barbara].

LaVonne graduated from high school in Cheyenne Wells, CO in 1953. After graduation, she attended secretarial school in Denver, CO. On December 29, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald B. Hudson, at the United Methodist Church in Cheyenne Wells. As a devoted wife and partner, LaVonne supported Don during veterinary school at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO by working as a receptionist for an ophthalmologist and cashier at Safeway. After graduation in 1960 Don and LaVonne purchased a veterinary practice [Twin Forks Clinic] in Benkelman, NE, and started their family. LaVonne fielded after hours veterinary calls to Don on the Motorola Radio and shuffled Marta and Nick to 4H Horse Shows, while actively serving the community. In 1977 Don and LaVonne sold the veterinary practice and moved to North Platte, NE, where Don accepted a position as UNL Extension Research Veterinarian.

LaVonne was a classy lady, devoted homemaker, mother, and community member. She was an active member of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary, Nebraska Cattlewomen, United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge, Extension Club, Winter Dance Club, North Platte Senior Center, and PEO. When Don pursued his passion for steer roping, LaVonne traveled with him across the country to the PRCA Senior Steer roping events. Reflecting on his cheerleader wife, Don once said that “LaVonne could have fun in a dirt storm”. &nbsp;As a side note, Don had to take ballroom dancing lessons in exchange for steer roping. When Don retired, LaVonne took great pride in the refurbishment of the century old house at Clearview Ranch in Benkelman. On the ranch, there was always a place for cowboys to congregate in LaVonne’s kitchen for a homecooked meal, laughter, conversation, and a pitch card game [which she won]. LaVonne enjoyed gardening, cooking, dancing, and entertaining. Her love and compassion for her kittens, Corgi dogs, and Marta’s cow herd were a source of joy in recent years. Throughout her life, she was an avid rodeo fan. She was loved by all who met her and encouraged others always to have a positive attitude.

 </figure>&nbsp; Ruth ‘LaVonne’ Hudson, age 90, died peacefully on September 17, 2024, in Walnut Creek, CA. She was born on July 14, 1934, in Spearman, TX. LaVonne is survived by her daughter, Marta Lucille Hudson, brothers Butch Baker [Irene], Phillip Baker [Diana], and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Russell Baker, mother, Ruth Lucille Baker [Tevebaugh], husband, Donald Byron Hudson, son, Nicholas Byron Hudson, an infant son, and brother, Don Russell Baker [Barbara].LaVonne graduated from high school in Cheyenne Wells, CO in 1953. After graduation, she attended secretarial school in Denver, CO. On December 29, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald B. Hudson, at the United Methodist Church in Cheyenne Wells. As a devoted wife and partner, LaVonne supported Don during veterinary school at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO by working as a receptionist for an ophthalmologist and cashier at Safeway. After graduation in 1960 Don and LaVonne purchased a veterinary practice [Twin Forks Clinic] in Benkelman, NE, and started their family. LaVonne fielded after hours veterinary calls to Don on the Motorola Radio and shuffled Marta and Nick to 4H Horse Shows, while actively serving the community. In 1977 Don and LaVonne sold the veterinary practice and moved to North Platte, NE, where Don accepted a position as UNL Extension Research Veterinarian.LaVonne was a classy lady, devoted homemaker, mother, and community member. She was an active member of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary, Nebraska Cattlewomen, United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge, Extension Club, Winter Dance Club, North Platte Senior Center, and PEO. When Don pursued his passion for steer roping, LaVonne traveled with him across the country to the PRCA Senior Steer roping events. Reflecting on his cheerleader wife, Don once said that “LaVonne could have fun in a dirt storm”. &nbsp;As a side note, Don had to take ballroom dancing lessons in exchange for steer roping. When Don retired, LaVonne took great pride in the refurbishment of the century old house at Clearview Ranch in Benkelman. On the ranch, there was always a place for cowboys to congregate in LaVonne’s kitchen for a homecooked meal, laughter, conversation, and a pitch card game [which she won]. LaVonne enjoyed gardening, cooking, dancing, and entertaining. Her love and compassion for her kittens, Corgi dogs, and Marta’s cow herd were a source of joy in recent years. Throughout her life, she was an avid rodeo fan. She was loved by all who met her and encouraged others always to have a positive attitude.Family and friends are invited to a visitation on September 26, 2024, 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM [with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM] at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home, 421 W 4th Street, North Platte, NE. The funeral will be held on September 27, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 1600 W E Street, North Platte, NE followed by dinner. Ruth "LaVonne" Hudson (1934-2024)

Roger Nice, 83, of Fayetteville, NC, died August 28, 2024 at his home.

Roger was born April 21, 1941 in Alliance, NE, to Aaron and Eleanor (Stroy) Nice.

Aaron, Eleanor, his brother DeLane and Roger moved shortly after to Broken Bow, Nebraska, where Roger attended Broken Bow schools and graduated in 1959.

After high school he worked doing electronics repair, and also obtained a private pilot's license. In 1964 he married Charlene K. Golden and together they had a daughter, Sheila Marie, in 1965.

He enlisted in the army in 1968 and was sent to Vietnam in 1970-1972. When he returned to Nebraska, Charlene and Roger parted ways and he moved to Fayetteville, NC. In 1973 he was stationed at Ft. Bragg. During his military service he was deployed to Germany for a short time and then returned to Ft. Bragg, where he volunteered in 1978 to go to Ft. Bliss for paratrooper training before returning to Ft. Bragg to finish his military career, where he retired with an honorable discharge. During his army career he received the Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Pro. Development Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Parachute Badge, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

After his army career he started driving truck for a few different companies before starting his own business, Nice Transport. He drove for himself until his health stopped him from doing so at age 78. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with electronics, home repair, flying, motorcycles, boating, gardening. Roger resided at his home until he passed away on August 28, 2024.

Survivors include daughter, Sheila Marie (Kevin) Brown of Curtis, NE; four grandchildren, Joel (Melynda) Linden, and their children Kenna, Caleb, Kameryn, Cicely (Ben Gitzen), Higginbotham, and their children, Garrett, Maddison, Christopher, Logan Brown, and his children Renesmae, Jaxon, Evangeline Brown, Rylie Jo Henderson.

Roger was preceded in death by parents, Aaron and Eleanor Nice, his brother, DeLane Nice, nephew, Terry Nice.

Graveside Services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, September 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm.&nbsp;

Roger Nice (1941-2024)

Donald Dean Chartier was born December 25th, 1931, in Yuma County Colorado to Frank and Bertha Chartier and he passed away in Globe, Arizona while visiting family September 6th 2024. &nbsp;Donald served in the Army during the Korean conflict and since was a member of the American Legion. In 1956 he went to Voc-Tech school in Milford to be a watchmaker. He also drove a truck for many years with CF and had never been in an accident and was a member of the Brotherhood of Teamsters.

 Donald moved to North Platte Nebraska and started his own business called Windbroom in 1981, which was a parking lot cleaning, marking and stripping business. He was very proud of his business working until he was 89 and still wore his Windbroom hat all the time even after retiring. Donald was involved with 4-H and the Lincoln County Fair, he would donate funds for awards, ribbons, and belt buckles and never missed a fair. He also volunteered time and donated funds to the hospital in North Platte, you can find his name on one of the benches there. 

Donald loved driving trucks, cooking, baking, and canning. One of the things that Donald treasured was his Rodeo Belt Buckle that he won for bull riding when he was a young man. He also had over 75 clocks running in his house that he bought broken and fixed as a hobby, his beloved watch that he wore he would hand wind every day. 

He is survived by two sisters and one brother, Phyllis Lowe of Crete, NE., Shirley Trembly of Globe, Az., and Dallas Chartier of Benkelman NE. 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and eight other siblings, he will be laid to rest beside his mother Bertha in Wray, Colorado at his request.

 There will be a grave side service on September 25th, 2024 at Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado at 2pm.

Don Chartier (1931-2024)

Sister Shirley Ann Simmons, OSU, 99, died in the 82nd year of her religious life on June 9, 2024, at Nazareth Home-Clifton. A native of Heartwell, Nebraska, she graduated from St. Patrick High School, in North Platte, where she was taught by the Ursulines, then received a scholarship to attend Ursuline College in Louisville. She entered the Ursulines in 1942 at age 17.

Sister Shirley Ann began her 55-year ministry as a teacher in Louisville at St. Boniface parish school in 1944, then later taught at Our Lady of Lourdes parish school and served as principal of St. Elizabeth parish school. She also taught in Cumberland, Maryland and in Omaha and North Platte, Nebraska. She served as principal at three schools in Nebraska: St. Patrick Elementary in Sidney; Blessed Sacrament School in Omaha; and St. Luke School in Ogallala from 1975 until her retirement in 1999. She then served in parish ministry in St. Luke parish until she returned to Louisville in 2012. She volunteered at United Crescent Hill Ministries and in the Ursuline Sisters' archives for several years.

She earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from the former Ursuline College (now Bellarmine University) in Louisville, and a master of arts degree in education from Creighton University, Omaha.

Sister Shirley Ann is the daughter of the late Niles and Ella Porterfield Simmons. She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Joe Dodson; brother John "Jack" Simmons; and brother and sister-in-law Niles Simmons and Joan Cohen. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as her community of Ursuline Sisters and Associates.

Robert Thomas White, age 70, of Lemoyne, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Ogallala Community Hospital in Ogallala, Nebraska from complications of COPD.&nbsp;

He is survived by his daughter, Aimee (Rohan) Willson, and grandson Devin of Florida; his son, Ryan White of Oregon; brother George (Diane) White of Georgia; sister Beverly (Billy) O'Donnell of Texas and significant other Janan Lockman of Lemoyne, Nebraska.
