Karen Troyer, aged 79, a beloved figure of North Platte, Nebraska, sadly left our world on July 16th, 2024, after a life lived richly in service and kindness. &nbsp;On February 27th, 1945, she was born to Clifford and Margaret (Waugh) McNeel in Los Angeles, CA.

Karen married Dan Troyer on October 6, 1963, just a few months upon graduating high school. &nbsp;They were blessed with two sons, Brad and Kyle. &nbsp;The couple lived in North Platte as they raised their children and worked at several places, a memorable one being the Sale Barn, where Karen thoroughly enjoyed the people she became familiar with and enjoyed working around.

Being a grandma was especially important to Karen and she loved spending as much time with her grandkids as possible. &nbsp;She was a lifetime member and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in North Platte. &nbsp;Karen was a 50 plus member of the Velvet Spurs Riding Club, which celebrated their 55th anniversary just last year. &nbsp;She also became a member of the Buffalo Bill Rodeo Queen Committee in 1985, where she found her passion for pageants and rodeo queens. &nbsp;After the Miss Rodeo Nebraska title was moved to North Platte, Karen immediately joined the Association. &nbsp;Upon joining the Association 33 years ago, she has participated in nearly every volunteer opportunity; she chaired the pageant committee, served as assistant director, aided with sponsorships, chaperoned dozens of young ladies, and helped wherever she was needed. &nbsp;Karen dedicated 28 years to the Miss Rodeo America Inc. and the Miss Rodeo America Pageant, serving on multiple committees over the years. &nbsp;Karen was a member of The Troop, which is a group of her high school classmates, a Teammates mentor, and an elementary school class aid. &nbsp;She was a beacon of unwavering friendship and kindness and has left an incredible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. &nbsp;

Those that precede Karen in death include her parents; her son, Brad; and her brother, Kim. &nbsp;Karen was the last surviving member of the “Four Golden Girls”; the three preceding her being Mardee Swanson, Sharon Halligan, and Betty Priel.

Karen will be a guiding star for all who knew her and she is leaving a legacy through her husband of 60 years, Dan Troyer; her son, Kyle Troyer; sister, Kelly (Vern) Ehlers; grandkids, JD (fiancé, Cassie) Troyer, Landon (Taylor) Troyer, Lacey (Andrew) Dalton, Ryce Troyer, Calie Troyer; great granddaughters, Bradleigh Troyer, Logan Dalton, Collins Dalton; daughters-in-law, Jacque (Steve) Stadler of Minden, Yvette Troyer of Hershey; several other family members and a vast amount of friends. &nbsp;

Robert Lewellen Hazlitt died July 16, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, NE, just 5 days short of his 91st birthday. Robert was born in Sidney, NE to Harry E. and Lillian E. (Carlson) Hazlitt. He completed the 8th grade in Sidney and quit school to help his dad on the farm during the Depression. On April 3, 1953, he married Ann Roelle in Peetz, CO and to this union, four sons were born.&nbsp;

Robert went to work in the oil fields on drilling rigs and while working, he took a home study course on TV and radio repair. He repaired TVs and radios for several years. He then went on to pass his master electrician license and did electrical work in the Sidney area. He later got his GED while teaching electrical wiring at Western Nebraska Technical College (WNTC).&nbsp;

Robert enjoyed playing cards, traveling with Ann including trips to Alaska and Hawaii. He enjoyed going to the lake with kids and grandkids and loved his occasional stop at a casino. Bob and Ann traveled to watch kids and grandkids activities. Bob always had a project in his garage. He restored two Ford Falcons.

After Robert retired, they moved to Selden, KS where they lived for approximately 14 years. They later moved to McCook, NE.&nbsp;

Robert is preceded in death by Ann in 2017; his parents; brothers, Donald Hazlitt, Richard Hazlitt, and Rodney Hazlitt; and sisters, Gladys Belford, Bonita Kobbins, and Vicky Maple.

Robert is survived by his sons Lonnie (Andrea) Hazlitt of Lake Jackson, TX, Monte (Mary) Hazlitt of McCook, NE, Harry (Tifinae) Hazlitt of Linden, NC, and Robert L. (Georgette) Hazlitt, Jr. of Grass Valley, CA; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Willa Roelle, Trudy Fuller, and Darlene Hazlitt; brother-in-law, Carl Roelle; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, are suggested to any charity of choice in Robert’s name.&nbsp;

A celebration reception with family greeting will be held at the Peetz Community Center, 526 Main St, Peetz, CO 80747 at noon to 2 pm MT on Monday, July 22, 2024. A private family burial will occur prior to this.

Norma Jean (Shunk) Mayer, 86, of Grant, passed away on July 15, 2024, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Norma was born on March 5, 1938, in Shelby, NE, to Lester and Miriam (Kruse) Shunk.

Norma grew up in the Rising City and Columbus, Nebraska area and attended schools in Rising City and Columbus. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1955 and subsequently worked in the Platte County Treasurer's office in Columbus.

In September of 1956, Norma moved to Julesburg, Colorado, where she worked as a legal secretary.

Norma married Royston Mayer of Grant on September 1, 1957, and two children, Mikel and Monica, were born to this union.

Norma worked part-time as a legal secretary. When Mikel and Monica started school, she went to work at the K-8 public school in Grant as the school secretary and bookkeeper. Norma retired after 36 years at the school. She took the school census for 53 years and was a Board member of ESU #16 for 16 years.

Norma was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grant. She was a member of Ladies Aid and served on the Church Council.

Norma loved traveling, going to the sports events of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and taking long walks.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Royston, parents, grandparents, two sisters, and long-time friend Vince Lee.

She is survived by her children, Mikel (Donna) Mayer and Monica (Kevin) Poppe all of Grant; grandchildren, Molly Mayer, Drew (Caitlin) Mayer, Brad (Shelby) Mayer, Lauren (Jeremy) Klima, Adrianne Poppe; 6 great-grandchildren: Paisley, Callum, Brynn, Wells Mayer, Elle, Isla Klima; brother, Tom (Julee) Shunk; sister Gaylene Thelen, along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Norma Mayer (1938-2024)

Merlon Keith, “Sam” Bedke was born on May 23, 1939, at his family home in Ravenna Nebraska. He was the youngest of seven children born to Frank and Edna Bedke. Sam loved reminiscing about their farm family and the hard work, shenanigans, and love shared. His family loved hearing about the pet crow, and other special creatures on their farm. Fishing the sand pits in Nebraska was especially enjoyable to Sam. He attended Ravenna High School and told many stories of his high school football career and time with friends. He always kept his connection to Ravenna friends, families, and neighbors.

Sam moved to Omaha at the age of 16 and married Ruth Fletcher. Four daughters were born to this union. After a few years, they moved to Blair where Sam gardened, fished, and spent time with family.

Upon moving to Omaha, at 16, Sam apprenticed at Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist, boilermaker welder. He was employed with Union Pacific for his entire career of 45 years. In 1988 he was transferred to North Platte to finish his career. He was a member of the Boilermaker’s Union.

Sam was known for his pranks and humor among his coworkers, friends, and family. He told many stories of his adventures at work, fishing with friends, and pranks among family and friends. His Facebook followers enjoyed hearing about the book he was writing and his how-to-video posts. Both brought smiles to many.

February 19, 1989, he was united in marriage to Cindy Hancock Wiese. You often heard the two of them referring to each other as “partner “or “buddy” in their conversations. With this union, Sam’s family grew, adding two step-daughters and two step-sons with which to share life and love. Sam and Cindy lived in rural North Platte for 35 years. Together they loved the land and many animals in their 80-acre paradise. Enjoying nature and especially his many dogs, held a special place in Sam’s heart. You didn’t need to ask twice to see Sam’s pictures of his Great Danes. This acreage was welcoming to many family members and friends throughout the years.

Sam had a strong will and was known for overcoming obstacles. He returned to school later in life and earned his GED, he gave up smoking, sugar, and alcohol. Sam’s time with an Anonymous fellowship was a major part of his life and support. He grew through friendships developed there. Many deep friendships were formed. 2024 marked Sam’s 50th year in this fellowship.

Sam was always an advocate of taking care of his body and was faithful with physical exercise until his health failed, which was in his 80’s. One of Sam’s repeated quotes was, “You can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself.” He has been a role model to many in many ways.

Sam is survived by his loving wife Cindy; three daughters, Marlene Bedke, Julie (Monte) Flynn, and Teri (Mark) Otte; one step-son Tim (Stacy) Wiese; two step-daughters, Angie (John) Burrows, and Rebecca (Teak) Colson; Grandsons Heath (Jennifer) Reyzlik, Colin (Miranda) Warrick, and Jared Warrick; Granddaughters Natalie (Justin) Christensen, Jenna (Jan) Hilgendorff, Meredith (John) Rohwer, Morgan (Brandon) Echtenkamp, Maggie (Matt) Thomas, and Amanda (Zach) Edwards; Granddaughters, Maddie Wiese and Cassidy Ratliff; Grandsons Douglas Drake, Lucas Ratliff, Neathen Burrows, Declan Burrows, and Brody Colson; twenty great-grandchildren; one cousin Marge Ruder and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in-law, Harry and Phylis Hancock; two brothers, Ervin and Robert Bedke, four sisters Edith, Lois, Phyllis, and Marlene, and their spouses; daughter Debbie; son-in-law’s, Jim Reyzlik and Rich Warrick; step-son Ted Wiese; and many friends.

Sam entered into eternity on July 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 19th at Bethel Church, North Platte, Nebraska with Pastor Geoff Safford officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon – 8, Thursday July 18th at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home. Family will be receiving friends from 10-11 A.M., Friday July 19th at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home prior to the service.

Merlon "Sam" Keith Bedke (1939-2024)

Today we come together to grieve, to mourn, and to celebrate the life of Susan K. Jones. Susan was born Susan Todd on the 30th of April 1956 to Floyd Walter and Irene (Kragt) Todd in Holland, Michigan. She was the youngest of three sisters, with Bev and Nancy being the older ones.

Susan and her family stayed in Holland throughout her school years. She attended Holland Christian High School where she became prolific at Dutch dancing, known as Klompen. She loved Tulip Time and walking the Mackinac Bridge in the summers.

Susan moved to Alaska in the late '80s.&nbsp; There she did traffic for a local radio station and ended up meeting her husband, James L. Jones. They were married on February 3rd, 1989 in Soldotna, Alaska. Two years to the day, they welcomed a beautiful baby girl named Allison. Susan gladly stepped into the role of stay-at-home mom.

Susan loved being a mom, she would read to Allison in the hospital constantly, trying to distract her from her numerous medical complications and trying to make her smile. Where Allison went, Susan went.

In 1994, Susan and her family moved to Rodgers, Arkansas where they lived close to family. Then in the beginning of 1998, the family moved to Ogallala. Nebraska. At first, Susan was able to keep being a stay-at-home mom. When things got tight, she started working at Sixth Street grocery store, where she made many friends that would remember her for years to come. From there she became the traffic manager at KOGA radio station in 2001 and worked there for several years before retiring.

Susan was known for being an extremely caring and selfless woman. She was extremely generous and kind-hearted. She wanted the best for people and tried to see the good in everyone, and always had a smile. She was also known for her morbid sense of humor. She loved her family, loved the water, green tree frogs, hedgehogs, and foxes, but most of all, she loved her daughter Allison, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She had a profound faith in the Lord and believed that through Him, all things were possible.

She was the absolute best mom a daughter could ask for, constantly by Allison’s side through every medical procedure and surgery, guiding her through life’s big questions, and encouraging her faith in Jesus.

She is survived by her daughter Allison; sisters Bev Johnson (Bob), Nancy Schaafsma (Bob); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Today we come together to grieve, to mourn, and to celebrate the life of Susan K. Jones. Susan was born Susan Todd on the 30th of April 1956 to Floyd Walter and Irene (Kragt) Todd in Holland, Michigan. She was the youngest of three sisters, with Bev and Nancy being the older ones.Susan and her family stayed in Holland throughout her school years. She attended Holland Christian High School where she became prolific at Dutch dancing, known as Klompen. She loved Tulip Time and walking the Mackinac Bridge in the summers.Susan moved to Alaska in the late '80s.&nbsp; There she did traffic for a local radio station and ended up meeting her husband, James L. Jones. They were married on February 3rd, 1989 in Soldotna, Alaska. Two years to the day, they welcomed a beautiful baby girl named Allison. Susan gladly stepped into the role of stay-at-home mom.Susan loved being a mom, she would read to Allison in the hospital constantly, trying to distract her from her numerous medical complications and trying to make her smile. Susan Jones (1956-2024)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin Lawson was born October 3, 1948 in Cambridge, Nebraska to Frank E. and May E. (Phillips) Lawson. He passed away peacefully Sunday July 14, 2024 at Tri Valley Health System surrounded by loved ones.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He attended Bartley High School, graduating in 1966. He then attended and graduated from McCook Community College. He married Virginia Cochran in 1968 in Denver, Colorado. To this union, two daughters were born: Lynnette Rae and Teresa Jo. They resided in Denver for one year where he was the bookkeeper for The Record Stockman newspaper. In 1970, they moved to Wauneta, Nebraska where he was employed by the Wauneta Co-op. He was a loan officer for the Wauneta Falls Bank before going to work for Frenchman Valley Co-op, where he was a sales rep for the feed department for 35 years.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin was very active in the community. He coached several baseball teams and his daughter’s softball teams. He was a member of the JC’s, served on the city council, Methodist Church Board and Bronco Boosters. He and Virginia spent many years helping with the high school rodeo in Imperial, Nebraska. In 2015, they moved to Champion, Nebraska and in 2022 to Cambridge, Nebraska to be closer to family. He enjoyed golfing, but his fondest memories were the rodeo, particularly team roping. He shared those memories with many close friends and family.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin was a people person and would visit with anyone. He especially enjoyed telling people about his children and grandchildren. He, Virginia, and Teresa traveled many miles following Lynnette’s volleyball games and high school rodeos, and later to their grandchildren’s activities in Colorado.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia; daughters, Lynnette Arambula and husband, Hector, and Teresa; grandson, James, and granddaughter, Erika; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Jay) Alberts and Deb (Rod) Horst; brother-in-law, Edward (Teri) Cochran; as well as several nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was proceeded in death by his parents, Frank and May and brother, Dennis.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Trinity Community Church in Cambridge with Pastors Tim Burke and George Probasco providing words of comfort.&nbsp; Burial in the Bartley Cemetery will follow services.

Jacey Leeper, 44, of Lewellen passed away July 9, 2024 in Greeley, Colorado.

He worked multiple jobs around Garden County before moving to the Office of Human Development in Sidney in 2009. He lived at the Crestview apartments and worked at Play It Again Sam and as a Handy Man with Dan the Maintenance man.

&nbsp;He was involved in Special Olympics from the age of 6 and was still active. His favorite sport was bowling! He loved hats, fishing, Reese’s, Dr. Pepper, trucks, tractors, $5 bills, go-carts, his golf cart, and people. He never knew a stranger!

&nbsp;Jacey is survived by his mother, Jody (Eric) Lobner of Lewellen; sister, Abbey Reeves (KC Merrihew) of Ashby; nephews, Tyson, Dom, and Landon; aunt, Kelli (Kirk) Kuxhausen; cousins, Nick (Eva) Kuxhausen, Carlye (Creighton) Morris, Madi (Daniel) Rohrer; and many other family members and friends.

Jacey Leeper (1979-2024)

Myron Lamont Bassett, 76, of Ogallala, NE, passed away on July 8, 2024, at his home.

Myron was born on December 1, 1947, in Kimball, SD, the son of Vernon Glen and Virginia May (Ostrander) Bassett.

Myron spent his early years in York, NE, and on August 3, 1968, Myron married Dorisla "Doris" M. Kramer. Though the couple would later divorce, their union was blessed with four children: Tammy, Kevin, William, and Edward.

Myron moved to Ogallala in 1997 to be closer to family. He worked as a welder throughout his career, notably for Zimmatic and TA, before retiring in 2007. He was known for his ornery yet funny demeanor, love for the Huskers, and enjoyment of NASCAR, Coca-Cola, and Eagles. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and lived life to the fullest.

Myron is survived by his children, Tammy Rose of York, Kevin Bassett of McCool Junction, William (Amanda) Bassett of Aurora, and Edward (Tonya) Bassett of Ogallala; his siblings, Robert Myers, Glen Bassett, and Juanita Crago; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Glen Bassett and Virginia May Ostrander.

Interment of cremains will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Albion at a later date.

Donald&nbsp;Deck, Jr., age 75, peacefully passed away July 8, 2024, at his home in North Platte after a long battle with lung disease.

Don, the son of Lavawn and Don Deck, Sr., was born August 23, 1948, at Garden City, KS. &nbsp;The family lived in various states before settling in North Platte. &nbsp;In September of 1966, Don enlisted into the U.S. Army. &nbsp;During his service he did his basic training at Ft. Bliss, TX, then was stationed in Germany before being sent to Vietnam where he served from Febr. 1968 to Febr. 1969 during the TET Offensive. &nbsp;During his three years of active duty, Don received many accommodations including the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars.

Following his honorable discharge, Don returned home and was able to attend North Platte Voc Tech on the G.I. Bill. &nbsp;He was schooled in auto body then went to work for Joe Dye Ford. &nbsp;In 1979 Don hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad and spent 30 years with the railroad working as a fireman/oiler. &nbsp;

On November 14, 2008, Don married Cheryl Garrett in North Platte. &nbsp;He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Nebraska Cornhuskers and after retiring in 2009, he had more time to spend with his family and friends. &nbsp;Don will be greatly missed!

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lavawn Hagedorn; son, Lance Deck; grandson, Rolland Tockey, Jr.; and father-in-law, Roger Musgrave.

Don leaves behind his wife, Cheryl, sister, Janet Carlton, and daughters, Chasity Deck and Audrey Tockey, all of North Platte; stepchildren, Lindsay Madron (Lance) of Omaha, Jennifer Hagen (Jim) of North Platte, Nina Garrett of Hastings and Michael Garrett of Decatur, MI; mother-in-law, Barbara Musgrave of Kearney; 9 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other family.

Donald Edward Deck, Jr. (1948-2024)

Donna Marie Keithley, 92, life-long resident of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2024 at Great Plains Health Hospital. Donna was born on June 9, 1932 in North Platte, the daughter of Arthur and Getty (Greeley) Stewart. &nbsp;After the early passing of her mother, she was raised by her stepmother, Pearl (Larsen) Stewart.

Donna grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School. &nbsp;She became an apprentice beautician and opened several beauty shops in the North Platte area over her 45-year career as a beautician. &nbsp;She married Gerald Shaner and had two sons, Gary Shaner and Mark Shaner. &nbsp;She later was married to William “Bill” R. Keithley on January 21, 1984 in Las Vegas, NV. &nbsp;Donna was an active volunteer in the community especially with the soup supper. &nbsp;She was also an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. &nbsp;She loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and in her younger years enjoyed outings and spending time with her many friends. &nbsp;She also enjoyed interior decorating and design and was always very welcoming to others in her home, especially during the holidays. &nbsp;She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. &nbsp;

Donna was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Getty; stepmother, Pearl; husband, Bill; son, Gary Shaner; brothers, Lawrence, Chester, and Richard Stewart; sisters, June Gosnell, and Elnora Stewart; stepbrothers, Marion and Sherman Larsen.

Those left to cherish Donna’s memory are her son, Mark Shaner of North Platte; step daughters, Leisa (Donald) Klinge of Colorado Springs, CO, and Kristine Schwager of North Platte; daughter in law, Ulla Lehman Shaner of Germany; grandchildren, Cheyenne Shaner, Cimarron (Tessa) Shaner; step grandchildren, Derek Klinge, Kaitlyn (Kadyn) Moody, Tyler Johnson, Cole Schwager, and Savanna Schwager; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews who adored her.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery, near Maxwell. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16th with the family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Keithley on January 21, 1984 in Las Vegas, NV. &nbsp;Donna was an active volunteer in the community especially with the soup supper. &nbsp;She was also an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. &nbsp;She loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and in her younger years enjoyed outings and spending time with her many friends. &nbsp;She also enjoyed interior decorating and design and was always very welcoming to others in her home, especially during the holidays. &nbsp;She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. &nbsp;Donna was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Getty; stepmother, Pearl; husband, Bill; son, Gary Shaner; brothers, Lawrence, Chester, and Richard Stewart; sisters, June Gosnell, and Elnora Stewart; stepbrothers, Marion and Sherman Larsen.Those left to cherish Donna’s memory are her son, Mark Shaner of North Platte; step daughters, Leisa (Donald) Klinge of Colorado Springs, CO, and Kristine Schwager of North Platte; daughter in law, Ulla Lehman Shaner of Germany; grandchildren, Cheyenne Shaner, Cimarron (Tessa) Shaner; step grandchildren, Derek Klinge, Kaitlyn (Kadyn) Moody, Tyler Johnson, Cole Schwager, and Savanna Schwager; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews who adored her.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church.Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery, near Maxwell. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16th with the family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Janice J. Sanftner, of Albert Lea, MN, passed away on March 27, 2024, at home in Minnesota.

Jan was born on May 2, 1947, in Covington, KY, to Joseph and Hazel (Land) Mertes. She grew up in the Air Force, attending different schools nearly every year before marrying Gail Sanftner, whom she met in Colorado. They were wed and blessed with one son, David, who was the light of Jan's life.

Jan was an entrepreneur who excelled in sales all her life. She was a true businesswoman, from owning a Kirby Vacuum franchise to selling Tupperware and even running a ceramic shop. Later in life, she ventured into the world of mortgage brokering.

While operating the Kirby franchise, Jan met Alex Jara, and their friendship eventually blossomed into a long and fulfilling companionship. In 2015, Jan and Alex moved to North Platte, NE, to be near the Jara family. Alex passed away in 2016. Most recently, Jan had been making her home in Minnesota to be closer to her relatives.

Jan's love for playing cards and gambling was a testament to her adventurous spirit, making many memorable gambling trips "up the hill" with her lifelong friend, Judy Dumler. While living in Minnesota, she always looked forward to playing Pokeno with her sister and their friends, a game that brought them joy and laughter. Her creative spirit was always at work throughout her life, most recently in her newest hobby of creating beautiful diamond art paintings.

Jan is survived by her son, David, and his wife, Christine Sanftner; her five grandchildren: Orion Sanftner and his fiancée Jasmyn Wright, Isaiah Sanftner, Noah Sanftner, Josiah Sanftner, and Emma Sanftner, all of Idaho; a sister, Bev Loos; many nieces and nephews-special among whom were Brian and his wife, Jennifer Loos, and Brandi and her husband, Tim Dirkes, all of Minnesota-along with many other relatives and friends and her loving dog, Annie.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Gail Sanftner in 2000 and Alex Jara in 2016; and a brother, Steven Mertes.

William Darwin Hanlon, a skilled Millwright and Carpenter, passed away on June 27,2024, in Imperial, Nebraska. Born on February 10, 1942, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to William and Vivian (Sheeley) Hanlon, William's journey was one of dedication and craftsmanship.

William grew up and attended school in Sioux Falls, graduating from Washington High in Sioux Falls.&nbsp;

He proudly served in the Navy and received an Honorable Medical Discharge during his time of service. Apart from his military service, William's talents and passion for woodworking shone through in his career as a Millwright and Carpenter, where he left a lasting impact with his meticulous work.

Outside of work, William found joy in creating birdhouses and honing his woodworking skills. His love for these hobbies showcased his creativity and attention to detail. William also enjoyed being a member of the Free Mason MO, Moose Lodge and American Legion organizations.

William will be dearly missed by his surviving family and friends including his sons, James Hanlon, Wade Hanlon, daughter Sally Miles, ex-wife Carol Hanlon, brother, Dave Hanlon (Pat Borovsaky) and girlfriend, Joyce Groves; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

William was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Gwen Connley and sister-in-law, Heddy Hanlon.

Martha L. (Edelman) Donason, age 86 of Ogallala, died Monday, July 1, 2024, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala, NE.

Martha was born July 9, 1937; in her grandparent’s home in rural Thomas County near Seneca, NE. to Leo F. and Josephine M. (Morey) Edelman.

She attended rural school during the first and second grades, moving to Seneca for third grade through Junior High School. She graduated in 1955 after spending her Senior year at Thomas County High School in Thedford, NE. She then attended Chadron State College to receive her teaching certificate and continued taking classes in the summers and off-campus classes to keep her certificate current. From 1955 she taught for 17 ½ years in Sheridan, Dawes, Cherry, Garden, and Grant Counties. She stopped teaching in 1971.

She married Louis Jack Donason on July 1, 1958, at the Cherry County Courthouse in Valentine, NE. Together they lived on various ranches, where Louis worked and she taught in nearby schools. They leased land and began to fulfill Louis’s dream of ranching for himself. Martha became his main hired man and general helper. She was a cook, calving assistant and always worked in the hayfield. Her least favorite jobs were fencing and windmill repair.

She loved her horses and enjoyed calving and tagging her babies. In summer she always had a garden and canned much of her produce. She enjoyed knitting, and crochet and made clothing for her family. In 1983 she discovered craft shows and began selling her handmade items.

In 2004, they purchased a small acreage in Ogallala, NE, and retired there in 2005. Because of Louis's health was poor, they spent most of their time enjoying their home. They did enjoy attending horse sales and an occasional local roping.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Jean (Scott) Ladely, and son, Shane Donason; six grandchildren, Deri Ladely, Kassie (Fletcher) Hodges, Aron (Nancy) Ladely, Dalton, Colton and Morgan Donason; and six great-grandchildren Khain Ladely and Hunter, Blakely, Abbie and Ella Hodges and Sebastion Donason; her brother's and their wives,) John (Suzanne) and Mark (Dori), and Tom Edelman.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Louis Donason; her parents, Leo and Josephine Edelman, a sister Jill Edelman and brother Sidney (Linda) Edelman.

A private family inurnment will take place in the Lavaca cemetery in Irwin, NE.

He served on the Curtis Airport Authority, the Curtis Telephone Company Board and the Frontier County Extension Board. He was very active with the 4H program and worked as a leader and as the Livestock Superintendent for the fair for several years. He was instrumental in getting the hometown carnival started in Curtis and participated in the Curtis Easter Pageant for many years. He enjoyed working on the farm, spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids, working on his Model A and his grandpa Nutt’s '54 Ford pickup.

Survivors include wife, Joyce Petersen of Curtis, NE; daughter, Tonia Petersen Hlavac of Lincoln, NE; son Bert Petersen and wife Deb of Curtis, NE; grandchildren Samatha Scherbarth and husband Kyle of Curtis, Dallas Petersen and wife Kaetlee of Curtis, Rachel Hlavac of Lincoln, Gavin Hlavac of Lincoln; great-grandchildren Natalie Scherbarth, Kaylee Scherbarth, Henry Scherbarth, Gabe Petersen of Curtis; sister, Joan Werkmeister of North Platte, NE.

Dallas Peterson (1941-2024)

Ted Lunn, age 77 of Ogallala, NE passed away peacefully at his home and joined his soulmate and best friend, Rita on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Ted was born in 1947 in Kansas City, KS to Ted and June (Garst) Lunn.

He entered the Navy and this led to meeting his beloved wife, Rita. After they wed, Ted left the Navy and moved to Colorado. They welcomed their first child, a daughter Mandie in 1971, and then their son Ty came along in 1973.

Ted worked on various construction sites and even helped build the Chatfield Dam. Ted and his wife then moved and opened their first carpet store in Thornton, CO. After Rita had her first bout of cancer, they wanted a fresh start and moved to Ogallala in 1984. They opened a small carpet store on the west side of town.

They then bought the Arthur Bay C-store and ran that for many years. As the carpet store grew, they moved to a larger location and incorporated a little thrift area called Mr. Bargain. A few years later after he purchased Central Auto and Diesel they moved to a larger location and started a furniture store as well, working alongside his family.

After the loss of his beloved wife in 2003 he sold the carpet and furniture store along with the auto shop. Retirement didn’t sit well with him and he decided to start Central Lock and Key.

In life, he enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, and hanging out with his buddies.

In parting from this earth, he left behind his daughter Mandie (Marc) Block of North Platte, NE, and Son Ty (Tania) Lunn of Ogallala, NE; two grandsons Christopher and Benjamin Knudsen of Sandy, Utah.

In his passing a family reunion has been had with Ted and June Lunn, his parents; brothers Jim and Don Lunn, and best of all his beloved wife, Rita.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Dennis Allen, 80, passed away June 28, 2024 in Ogallala with his family at his side.&nbsp;

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home in Oshkosh. Services will conclude at the funeral home with a gathering of family and friends to follow at the Oshkosh Eagles Club.

Dennis Lee Allen was born in the Oshkosh Hospital on July 4, 1943 to Charles “Murl” and Gladys Alta (Nigh) Allen. He was welcomed home by his parents and older brother Herschell to the family homestead northeast of Oshkosh.&nbsp;

After graduating from Garden County High School in 1961, Dennis moved to California, where he worked at multiple bowling alleys, first as a manual pin setter, then maintenance. It was there that Dennis learned the trade of machining, which he would carry throughout his life. Dennis also became interested in Harley Davidsons and the open road while in California. In 1965, Dennis became a father to Dana Lee, and went on to raise her as a single father for the next decade.&nbsp;

Dennis and Dana returned to Oshkosh and Scottsbluff for a number of years before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the early 70s. It was in Milwaukee that Dennis would meet and marry Betty, combining their families in 1974. Tammy Lee was born to the couple in 1981.

In 1986, Dennis returned to Oshkosh and moved to the homestead Allen Ranch for good. He owned and operated Allen Machine Shop in Oshkosh until 1999. At that time, he joined the Garden County Road Department, where he was the Garden County Road Superintendent until retirement in 2008.&nbsp;

Dennis was known for his love of life and especially his boisterous laugh, which could be recognized in any crowd. Dennis was always creative, and it seemed like he could fix anything. He enjoyed working with his hands, building and restoring several Harleys and classic cars throughout his lifetime. He loved living on the Allen Ranch, knowing that after exploring in his youth, Garden County was his home. Dennis was able to live out the remainder of his life at the ranch he so loved.&nbsp;

Dennis is survived by his wife Betty of Oshkosh; daughters Dana Martinez of Oshkosh and Tammy (Craig) Chamberlin of Kearney; son Mert of North Platte: grandchildren Amanda, Nathan, Jesse, Scott, Trenton, and Madison; 8 great grandchildren; cousin Bill (Lynn) Jameson nephew Pat (Sue) Allen, niece Joanne Allen as well as many other relatives and friends.&nbsp;

Preceding him in death are his parents, brother Herschell, nephew Mike, and son-in-law Ryan.

He was welcomed home by his parents and older brother Herschell to the family homestead northeast of Oshkosh.&nbsp;After graduating from Garden County High School in 1961, Dennis moved to California, where he worked at multiple bowling alleys, first as a manual pin setter, then maintenance. It was there that Dennis learned the trade of machining, which he would carry throughout his life. Dennis also became interested in Harley Davidsons and the open road while in California. In 1965, Dennis became a father to Dana Lee, and went on to raise her as a single father for the next decade.&nbsp;Dennis and Dana returned to Oshkosh and Scottsbluff for a number of years before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the early 70s. It was in Milwaukee that Dennis would meet and marry Betty, combining their families in 1974. Tammy Lee was born to the couple in 1981.In 1986, Dennis returned to Oshkosh and moved to the homestead Allen Ranch for good. He owned and operated Allen Machine Shop in Oshkosh until 1999. At that time, he joined the Garden County Road Department, where he was the Garden County Road Superintendent until retirement in 2008.&nbsp;Dennis was known for his love of life and especially his boisterous laugh, which could be recognized in any crowd. Dennis was always creative, and it seemed like he could fix anything. He enjoyed working with his hands, building and restoring several Harleys and classic cars throughout his lifetime. He loved living on the Allen Ranch, knowing that after exploring in his youth, Garden County was his home. Dennis was able to live out the remainder of his life at the ranch he so loved.&nbsp;Dennis is survived by his wife Betty of Oshkosh; daughters Dana Martinez of Oshkosh and Tammy (Craig) Chamberlin of Kearney; son Mert of North Platte: grandchildren Amanda, Nathan, Jesse, Scott, Trenton, and Madison; 8 great grandchildren; cousin Bill (Lynn) Jameson nephew Pat (Sue) Allen, niece Joanne Allen as well as many other relatives and friends.&nbsp;Preceding him in death are his parents, brother Herschell, nephew Mike, and son-in-law Ryan.

Delores Leach, 86, of Chappell went to her eternal resting place Friday June 28th 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Delores was born May 6th 1938 to Lillie and Delbert Florom in Leadville, Colorado. She was the first daughter of 9 children. The family later moved to Sacramento, Nebraska where she attended school.

She met the love of her life, Ervin, and married him February 19, 1954. They made their home in Holdrege and had 5 children: Rick, Randy, Rita, Ronda, and Rudy.&nbsp;

In 1966, they moved to Chappell where they purchased the Wayside Café Motel and Conoco station. She became busy being a cook, waitress, dish washer, clerk, and maid.

But the most important aspect of her life was her family.

In 1969, they sold the business and moved to their present home where they lived for 55 years.

Later when the kids were grown, she traveled with Ervin and worked alongside of him for Werner Construction, always returning back to their home in the winter.

Delores is survived by her children, Rita Purcell, Ronda and Mike Ward, and Rudy Leach; daughter in law, Cheri Leach; brother, Danny Florom; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Delores was proceeded in death by her husband Ervin; sons, Rick and Randy; daughter in law, Debbie and son in law, Charlie Purcell.

Delores Leach (1938-2024)

Rhonda&nbsp;Kramer, age 88, formerly of Wallace, died June 16, 2024, at The Maples at Centennial in North Platte.

Rhonda was born September 12, 1936, to Henry and Hattie (Lair) Van Boening on the family farm 4 miles south of Wallace, Nebraska. She graduated from Wallace Public School in 1953, then attended Bryan Memorial Hospital School in Lincoln where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1957.&nbsp;

Before taking her first job at the Grant Hospital in Grant, Nebraska, she met Arnold Martin Kramer, whom she married November 27, 1957. The couple moved to Kansas City, KS, in 1958 where Rhonda worked at the Veterans Hospital while Arnold attended seminary, and during this time she bore two sons: Jonathan and Michael. &nbsp;From 1961 until 2000, the family lived throughout the northern Great Plains states where they pastored in five American Baptist Churches and three more sons, David, Timothy, and Andrew, were born. Additionally, they served four United Methodist Churches before retiring to Wallace in 2000.

In 2010 her fourth son, Timothy Lee, died an untimely death and she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. In 2015 Rhonda moved into full care nursing in Grant. Her third son, David Alan, succumbed to colon cancer in 2019.

When she was 10 years old, her older sister Bonnie Ruth died. &nbsp;Since Rhonda had no other sisters or daughters, almost everywhere she went, she gained friends that seemed to her as sisters or daughters. There was Phyllis and Elva from nursing training, Edna Smith and Pam Evelyth from Union Center, Janet Kocher and Hazel Wyss from Onega, Bev from Big Springs, Katie Shirm and Susie Hodges from Ravenna, Janet Kilgore of Wallace, and Kathy Peterson of Grant. &nbsp;Each of these women became lifelong spiritual sisters.

All her life, Rhonda was a woman of family and faith. &nbsp;She began attending worship services with her family at a country school east of the farm, then in the Wallace United Methodist Church. In the churches where Arnold pastored, Rhonda helped by teaching Sunday school, playing the piano, and leading Bible studies. &nbsp;Rhonda spent her entire life dedicated to others and loved being a mom and a pastor's wife.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold M. Kramer; sons, Jonathan Kramer (Miriam), Michael Kramer and Andrew Kramer (Becky); grandchildren, Nathan Kramer, Laura De Leon Fabian (Kevyn), Kyle Kramer, Henry Kramer, Isaac Kramer, Jenna Kramer and Adam Kramer; great-grandchildren, Leo De Leon Fabian and Thomas De Leon; step grandchildren, Jessi de Quevedo (Juan) &nbsp;and Paola Pineda; and step great-grandchildren, Alejandro Funes, Diego Funes, Elizabeth Quevedo, Zoe Quevedo and Juan Miguel Quevedo.

Rhonda was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dale and Gary Van Boening; &nbsp;and daughters-in-law, Mixamides del Transito Rojas de Kramer and Carmen Dalila Mejia de Kramer.
