Larry Dean Jameson was born March 10, 1938, to Ralph and Edith (Ricks) Jameson on the Dismal River Ranch south of Thedford, NE. Larry was the second to youngest of eight siblings. Larry attended K-8th grade at a country school on the Dismal River. He then attended and graduated from Thomas County High School- class of 1955.&nbsp;

After attending a semester at Nebraska State Trade School in Milford studying Diesel Mechanics, Larry was needed back on the family ranch to help his dad.

On September 30th, 1961, Larry married the love of his life, Betty Ann Ewoldt at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Thedford, Nebraska. Larry and Betty established their home out on the Jameson Ranch on the banks of the Dismal River. They had two daughters, Donna Kay and Teresa Lynn.

After 44 years of married life on the Dismal, Larry &amp; Betty moved to BJ Ranch Co on the east side of Highway 83 south of Thedford where they have lived the past 19 years.

Larry has been a member of Bethel Assembly of God church for the past 68 years. During those years he has served on the Deacon Board for several terms with several different pastors. Larry also served as Assistant Sunday School Secretary for many years. Most importantly, Larry loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart, soul, and mind. He loved his wife and family deeply. Larry also enjoyed ranching, John Deere tractors, and old cars (especially Ford retractables).

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph &amp; Edith Jameson; his brother, Edgar Jameson, his sisters, Shirley Jameson, Betty Neal, Deloris Little, Irene Piester, and Elsie Carr; and his grandson, Zachary Dailey.

Larry is survived by his wife-Betty Ann Jameson of Thedford, his daughters- Donna Kay Higgins (Terry) of Thedford and Teresa Lynn Dailey of Papillion, NE, his grandsons- Jared Jameson Dailey (Jordan) of Mishawaka, IN, and Trevor Dailey of Papillion, NE, his younger sister- Thelma Haynes (Dallas) of Syracuse, NE, as well as, numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Lisa Kay Waterman, 55, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Medical Center of Aurora after a three-week battle with cancer.

Lisa was born to Mike and Kathy (Tex) Smithberg on August 23, 1969 in Omaha, Nebraska. After high school, Lisa married Scott Glinn, and together, they had a daughter, Kelli. Later, they divorced, and she married Chad Waterman, and they had two boys together, Seth and Laine.

Lisa always had a love for animals and that gift stayed with her throughout her lifetime. With a love for dogs, she went to work at Cloverleaf Dog Track in Loveland, Colorado, until it was closed. She then moved back to Ogallala and went to work at the Perkins County Veterinary Hospital in 2012 as a dog groomer. Throughout this job, she met many clients who became close friends. In 2023, she decided to start her own business, Bubbles &amp; Biscuits Mobile Pet Salon, which grew rapidly successful. She absolutely loved working with all the dogs. She also had found other passions and adventures in the last couple of years with her best friend, Cody Stickley. They would go antler shed hunting in the spring. They would also go out and find arrowheads, rocks, and other artifacts. She enjoyed polishing the rocks they would find and collect. She has always been an outdoor person, but in the last few years, it has been her place of peace. When she wasn't outside, you could find her inside watching and rooting for her favorite football team, the New Orleans Saints.

She is preceded in death by her father, Mike Smithberg; grandfather, Clarence Tex; grandparents, Mable and Bill Palmer, and Kenny Smithberg.

Lisa Kay Waterman (1969-2024)

&nbsp; On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Donald Wayne Fleecs peacefully passed away at his home in Sutherland.&nbsp; He was 91 years old.

Don, the son of Charles and Alice (Rourke) Fleecs, was born in Sutherland on February 11, 1933.&nbsp; He attended country school then Sutherland High School, graduating in 1950.&nbsp; Don farmed with his father for three years before being inducted into the U.S. Army.&nbsp; After his honorable discharge in 1955 Don returned home.&nbsp; He continued farming, earned his private pilot's license, and was owner/operator of Fleecs Brothers Trucking with his brother "PeeWee".

On December 29, 1956, Don married&nbsp; Peggy Ann Priel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland.&nbsp; They were blessed with six children and 62 years of marriage.&nbsp; The family lived south of town until 1965 when they built their forever home just west of the church.

He was active in the Sutherland community and the church.&nbsp; Don served on the school board for 15 years, Twin Valley Co-Op for 25 years, and Sutherland Rodeo Committee for 34 years.&nbsp; He also served on the Sutherland Co-Op, fire district, Chamber of Commerce, 4-H Council, Lincoln County Extension Board, American Legion and Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; More notably, Don was District 3 Lincoln County Commissioner from 1993-2002.

Don was a farmer, loving husband, and a good father and grandfather.&nbsp; He and Peggy enjoyed traveling; their most memorable trip was to Italy where they met Pope Francis.&nbsp; After Peggy passed away in 2019 Don anxiously awaited their reunion but in the mean time, he stuck to his routines, was independent and a bit stubborn. 

Don was known to many around town as "Tiger" or "Chief" and could often be seen picking up cans while riding his scooter downtown to mingle with the town folk and tell his stories. Then, as his health declined, he took up residence at The Maples at Centennial in North Platte in 2023 and looked forward to visiting his home on the weekends.&nbsp; Before returning to The Maples, Don would pick flowers from Peggy's garden to give to the girls when he got back.&nbsp; And a passion of Don's was dancing- he was always looking for a dance partner at The Maples.

One of the last pleasures Don had was taking a drive across the new Sutherland bridge the morning of his passing.&nbsp; He was one of a kind and always had a smile!

Along with his beloved Peggy, he was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Alice Fleecs; parents-in-law, P.E. and Isabell Priel; brother, Jerome "PeeWee" (Norma) Fleecs; brothers-in-law, Tom Hoatson and Bud (Betty) Priel; sister-in-law, Mary Bryant; son-in-law, Stewart Williams; and nephews, Robert Hoatson and Jerre Rome Fleecs.

Don is survived by his children, Diane McConnell of North Platte, Jackie Williams of Kansas City, MO, Pat (Ruth) Fleecs and Joe Fleecs of Sutherland, Liz (Chris) Skov of Hershey and Tina Fleecs of Kansas City, MO; his sister, Kathleen Hoatson of North Platte; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other family.

Services will be on Friday, September 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.&nbsp; Rosary service begins at 10 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with celebrant Father Jonathan Sorensen. Donald Wayne Fleecs (1933-2024)

Faith Santo Hanzal, 97, of Stapleton, Nebraska, passed away on September 7, 2024 at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska. Beloved only daughter of Frank Lee Santo and Cecyle Leila (Hamm) Santo, Faith was born in her grandparent’s sod house west of Stapleton on October 4, 1926. &nbsp;

Riding on horseback to attend a country school in northwest Logan County, Faith completed the 8th grade there, and then for two years she attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis. She then moved to Stapleton, living with the Teichert family, and graduated from Stapleton High School in 1944. &nbsp;Continuing her education at Kearney State Teachers College in Nebraska, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Home Economics in 1950. Faith met her future husband, Joseph Hanzal, in a history class at Kearney. On July 8, 1950, Faith Lee and Joseph A. Hanzal were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church in Kearney, and from that union were born three daughters: &nbsp;Beverly Jeanette, Amy Elizabeth, and Carla Marie. Faith and Joe both taught school at Hayes Center, Nebraska, for two years and at Gresham, Nebraska for four years. &nbsp;

In 1956, Faith and Joe returned to the family ranch, Santo Land and Cattle Company, in northwest Logan County. The ranch began as a Kinkaid Homestead acquired by her father, and the young Hanzal family answered the calling of stewardship for the Sandhills, wildlife, water, and cattle. Returning to the ranch came naturally to Faith, and for 49 years she and Joe worked tirelessly to improve the ranch and cattle. &nbsp;As a girl, Faith had enthusiastically helped her father with feeding cattle, checking wells, and milking cows. She vividly recalled the 1934 drought, when the ranch received a massive herd of starving cattle from Kansas. Shipped by rail to Gandy, the cattle were driven north to the Sandhills, where the ranch’s abundant water saved the cattle, whose coats were thickly encrusted with dirt. The north side of Faith’s home was black with flies escaping the heat, and she and her mother shooed them with dishcloths, as they prepared the food for the hired help that built fences, moved the cattle, and tended pumpjack engines that ensured constant streams of water. The dusty winds that blew that year deposited new seeds, ultimately improving the ranch’s forage. &nbsp;

Faith’s childhood also included some remarkable adventures with her mother’s family, including attending the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair and viewing the original 1939 screening of The Wizard of Oz at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.

Known for her love of birds and chickens, Faith had a particular affinity for winged creatures. Migrating butterflies would see the beacon of Faith’s flower garden. She and Joe awoke one fall morning to see the cedar tree ablaze with thousands of monarchs. &nbsp;

Faith’s heart radiated with joy and gratitude. &nbsp;She loved her family and remained eager to hear all the news about her grandchildren. She was devoted to her community and dedicated her life to service. &nbsp;She loved to visit, and could usually determine how she might be related or know someone who was connected to you in some way. &nbsp;Faith had a particular gift for gardening and feeding people abundant meals. She remained devoted to her community throughout her life and participated in the Presbyterian Church Lifeboat Mariners, Lone Valley Extension Club, Farm Bureau, Sunshine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nebraska Cattle Women, and VFW Women’s Auxiliary, and was a member of the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.

Faith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant brother, Greyson Ray, and granddaughter Rachel Denise Johnson.

She is survived by daughters, Beverly (Gregg) Johnson, Amy (Mostafa) Kashi, Carla (David) Hanzal; grandchildren, Holly (Bobby) Graves, Kari (Shawn) Gerber, Michael Johnson, Evan, Ryan and Alex Kashi, and Helena Hanzal Childress; and great-grandchildren, Ryder, River and Rikely Graves.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stapleton Splash Pad Fund, the Logan County 4H Council or the Crane Trust.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 13, 2024 at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Stapleton, Nebraska. &nbsp;Rev Mark Rohrback will be officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. following lunch, at the McCain Cemetery, Stapleton, Nebraska. &nbsp;Visitation will be from noon-7:00 P.M. on Thursday with family receiving friends from 5-7 at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home who is assisting the family.

She was devoted to her community and dedicated her life to service. &nbsp;She loved to visit, and could usually determine how she might be related or know someone who was connected to you in some way. &nbsp;Faith had a particular gift for gardening and feeding people abundant meals. Faith Santo Hanzal (1926-2024)

Cole Wayne Welliver, 70, of Ogallala, formerly of Lexington, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala, Nebraska.

He was born on April 16, 1954, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Vernon "Doc" and Elleanor "Ellie" (Dodge) Welliver. He attended school in Lexington and graduated from St. Ann's High School with the class of 1972. Cole lived in Lexington his entire life until 2021, when he moved to Ogallala.&nbsp;

Cole was an avid sports fanatic, with his favorite teams being the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the New York Yankees. If he wasn't watching sports, he was watching some of his favorite old cartoons. Cole loved going to the local bowling alley, where he spent over 18 years as scorekeeper for the bowling leagues.&nbsp;

Survivors include his niece, Samantha (Shad) Mann of Brady, Nebraska; nephew, Travis (Chrystal) Welliver of Valentine, Nebraska; great niece and nephews, Trevor Mann of Brady, Nebraska, Mariah Welliver of Lead, South Dakota, and Andrew Philbrick of Valentine, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Phyllis Welliver of Lead, South Dakota; special friends, Larry and Tish Daugherty of Lexington, and his Bowling Alley buddies.

Besides his parents, Cole was preceded in death by his brother, Craig Welliver.

Karen K. Robertson, 87, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully to her heavenly home on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Linden Court. Karen was born on December 29, 1936 at her maternal grandparents’ home in Imperial, NE. She was the daughter of Harry Edgar and Matilda Mary (Malcolm) Kinner.

Karen grew up north of Imperial and graduated from Imperial High School. She was married to Clyde LaVerne Robertson in Imperial, NE in 1959 and together they had 2 children. Karen worked periodically as a medical office secretary and receptionist, but her focus remained on family and home. She was a member of the North Platte Berean Fellowship Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. &nbsp;Karen was known for her gentle humor, winning smile, unassuming compassion, and selfless service to others. Family members knew she would provide a listening ear for all manner of joys and concerns. She faced all of life’s hardships with quiet perseverance and dignity.

Karen was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Mary; daughter, Shelly Adee; brother, Harry Kinner, Jr.; niece, Deborah Kinner; nephew, Scott Howitt; mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law, Leota and Ernest Meyer; father-in-law, Clyde Robertson; brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Helen Robertson; and sister-in-law, Norma Howitt.

Karen K. Robertson (1936-2024)

Ralph G. Casey Jr., aged 81, of Ogallala, NE, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Linden Court in North Platte, NE.

In 1969, Ralph married Charlette Ann Hood, and together they made Ogallala their home, raising their family there. Ralph began working at Cornhusker Glass in 1977 and remained there until his retirement.

He had a passion for camping, enjoyed cruising with his son, and loved socializing with friends. Ralph was known for his creativity, engaging conversations, and above all, his love for all family gatherings.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Ray, and Martha Maben; his son, Andy Van Cura; his sisters, Dee Van Cura and Cheryl Terry; his brothers-in-law, Delmar Van Cura, Lionel “Pete” Brown, and Eugene Hood; and his grandson, James Van Cura.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Charlette; his sister, Jayne Brown; his sons, Ralph Casey III of Ogallala and Danny (Luanne) Van Cura of Hayes Center, NE; his daughters, AJ (Clyde) Reimer of Rockville, NE, and Darla (Terry) Walkenhorst of North Platte, NE; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ralph’s absence will be deeply felt by everyone who loved him.

Ralph Casey, Jr. (1943-2024)

Kelly Pflum passed away on August 30, 2024, in Castle Rock, Colorado, at the age of 61. She was born on September 4, 1962, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Lloyd A Pflum Jr. and Donna Ruthe (Roedel) Pflum. Kelly grew up in rural Chase County. She graduated from Chase County High School, laying the foundation for a compassionate career as a Licensed Practical Nurse.&nbsp;

Kelly was deeply committed to her profession working in Nursing Home Care. Her warmth and empathy left a lasting impact on both her patients and their families. The qualities she exemplified not only made her a respected healthcare provider but also a cherished friend to many. Kelly will be remembered not only for her professional contributions but for her deep love for her family and the friendships she nurtured throughout her journey.

Family was the cornerstone of Kelly's life. She loved spending time with her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kelly's love for her family was evident in every gathering and shared memory, which she cherished deeply.

Beyond her work and family, Kelly loved listening to country music and enjoyed attending concerts whenever possible. Her enthusiasm for life extended to her devotion to Husker Football, even at their worst, she was a committed fan.&nbsp;

Kelly is survived by her sons, Robert J. (Julie) Pflum and Steven A. Kelly Pflum (1962-2024)

On August 28, 2024, Dr. Louis Lamoine Hansen, aged 98, of Sutherland, formerly of Kearney and Omaha, passed away at the Sutherland Care Center. &nbsp;Among the many incredible achievements of his life, writing a 28-page memoir was one. &nbsp;Capturing the brightest memories of his mind, a condensed version of Louis’s memoir follows:

“On Mother’s Day, May 9th, 1926, a son was born to Louis and Sena Hansen on a farm nine miles south of Minden, Nebraska. &nbsp;The fifth of eight children, I was that son weighing 10 and ¾ pounds. &nbsp;I now recount the occurrences which have, in my mind, affected the ebb and flow of my life.

My grade school, Kearney County District 30, was a one-room building heated by wood and a coal burning potbellied stove. &nbsp;All eight grades were in the same room, I was the only student in my grade for all eight years. &nbsp;My first paying job, on the farm, came when I was ten. &nbsp;One of the neighbors gave me twenty-five cents a day to drive a team of horses hitched to a hayrack. &nbsp;

My senior year in high school, I tested and qualified for the Airforce Flight Program. &nbsp;I didn’t have 20/20 vision so I didn’t pass the physical. &nbsp;As a result, I was drafted into the Army and was sent to basic training on November 16, 1944. &nbsp;I served in the 158th Regimental Combat Team (Bushmasters) as a rifleman in WWII in the Philippines and Japan. &nbsp;On May 16, 1947, I mustered out and took a Greyhound bus from Monterey, California to Minden. &nbsp;I worked for my dad as a carpenter and painter the rest of that summer until a friend talked me into going to college with him. &nbsp;I majored in social studies and physical education. &nbsp;Without a doubt, my greatest feat in Lincoln was finding the perfect girl. &nbsp;A good friend of mine set me up for a blind date with Marian Hufman. &nbsp;After a couple of months, I asked Marian to wear my Fraternity pin, and she accepted. &nbsp;I went home for Easter break and bought a ¼ carat keepsake engagement ring. &nbsp;Our first date after Easter, I proposed, and Marian accepted the ring. &nbsp;I graduated from Wesleyan and went home to Minden. &nbsp;Midway through the summer, I accepted a teaching and coaching job in Cedar Bluffs. &nbsp;On July 21, 1951, I married my beautiful Marian, who I can truthfully say is the only girl I have ever loved with the exception of my family. &nbsp;We moved back to Lincoln and I took a job as a door-to-door salesman for Omaha Baking Company. &nbsp;The birth of our first child, Bill, came on December 16, 1952. &nbsp;On December 24, 1954, we experienced the birth of our beautiful daughter, Barbara. &nbsp;We were then blessed with the birth of our third child, Bob, on November 9, 1959. &nbsp;Life doesn’t get any better than the growth of a family. &nbsp;

After 5 years in sales, I was offered a job in York, NE, as a teacher of history and geography and an assistant varsity football and track coach. &nbsp;I became the York school counselor in the fall of 1964. &nbsp;I was then asked to come to Kearney to interview for a position with the newly established Educational Service Unit. &nbsp;I was hired specifically to develop an elementary school guidance and counseling program. &nbsp;After developing the counseling program, I was employed by ESU 10 to be their special education director. &nbsp;At the end of the first year, our administrator decided to retire. &nbsp;I decided I would pursue my doctorate in school administration. &nbsp;I began my service as administrator of ESU 10 in 1971 and then received my doctorate in 1973. &nbsp;I retired on June 30, 1988. &nbsp;I thoroughly enjoyed my chosen profession and my responsibilities at the ESU 10. &nbsp;

I am so proud of our family. &nbsp;I consider all of my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to be very good looking. &nbsp;I guess if you want to have beautiful offspring, you should always marry a smart, beautiful girl. &nbsp;I think I did that.”

Louis lived a long, engaging life, leaving behind an empire of love within his family: his daughter, Barbara Uhrmacher; son, Robert (Darla) Hansen; grandchildren, Shannon (Brian) Rotert, Andrew Uhrmacher, Britnee (Nolan) Cormier, Lauran Hansen, and Louis Dane Hansen; great grandchildren, Drew and Maddyn Rotert, Archer Uhrmacher; sister, Joan (Richard) Nelson; brother-in-law, James Hufman; many nieces, nephews, and other family.

Those that Louis joined upon his passing are his beautiful wife, Marian; son, William “Bill”; son in law, Darrel; parents; brothers, Virgil and Gene; sisters, Shirley, Lucille, Margery, Delores; parents-in-law, Lewis and Virginia; sister-in-law, Nancy.

 </figure>On August 28, 2024, Dr. Louis Lamoine Hansen, aged 98, of Sutherland, formerly of Kearney and Omaha, passed away at the Sutherland Care Center. &nbsp;Among the many incredible achievements of his life, writing a 28-page memoir was one. &nbsp;Capturing the brightest memories of his mind, a condensed version of Louis’s memoir follows:“On Mother’s Day, May 9th, 1926, a son was born to Louis and Sena Hansen on a farm nine miles south of Minden, Nebraska. &nbsp;The fifth of eight children, I was that son weighing 10 and ¾ pounds. &nbsp;I now recount the occurrences which have, in my mind, affected the ebb and flow of my life.My grade school, Kearney County District 30, was a one-room building heated by wood and a coal burning potbellied stove. &nbsp;All eight grades were in the same room, I was the only student in my grade for all eight years. &nbsp;My first paying job, on the farm, came when I was ten. &nbsp;One of the neighbors gave me twenty-five cents a day to drive a team of horses hitched to a hayrack. &nbsp;My senior year in high school, I tested and qualified for the Airforce Flight Program. &nbsp;I didn’t have 20/20 vision so I didn’t pass the physical. &nbsp;As a result, I was drafted into the Army and was sent to basic training on November 16, 1944. &nbsp;I served in the 158th Regimental Combat Team (Bushmasters) as a rifleman in WWII in the Philippines and Japan. &nbsp;On May 16, 1947, I mustered out and took a Greyhound bus from Monterey, California to Minden. &nbsp;I worked for my dad as a carpenter and painter the rest of that summer until a friend talked me into going to college with him. &nbsp;I majored in social studies and physical education. &nbsp;Without a doubt, my greatest feat in Lincoln was finding the perfect girl. &nbsp;A good friend of mine set me up for a blind date with Marian Hufman. &nbsp;After a couple of months, I asked Marian to wear my Fraternity pin, and she accepted. &nbsp;I went home for Easter break and bought a ¼ carat keepsake engagement ring. &nbsp;Our first date after Easter, I proposed, and Marian accepted the ring. &nbsp;I graduated from Wesleyan and went home to Minden. &nbsp;Midway through the summer, I accepted a teaching and coaching job in Cedar Bluffs. &nbsp;On July 21, 1951, I married my beautiful Marian, who I can truthfully say is the only girl I have ever loved with the exception of my family. &nbsp;We moved back to Lincoln and I took a job as a door-to-door salesman for Omaha Baking Company. &nbsp;The birth of our first child, Bill, came on December 16, 1952. &nbsp;On December 24, 1954, we experienced the birth of our beautiful daughter, Barbara. &nbsp;We were then blessed with the birth of our third child, Bob, on November 9, 1959. &nbsp;Life doesn’t get any better than the growth of a family. &nbsp;After 5 years in sales, I was offered a job in York, NE, as a teacher of history and geography and an assistant varsity football and track coach. &nbsp;I became the York school counselor in the fall of 1964. &nbsp;I was then asked to come to Kearney to interview for a position with the newly established Educational Service Unit. &nbsp;I was hired specifically to develop an elementary school guidance and counseling program. &nbsp;After developing the counseling program, I was employed by ESU 10 to be their special education director. &nbsp;At the end of the first year, our administrator decided to retire. &nbsp;I decided I would pursue my doctorate in school administration. &nbsp;I began my service as administrator of ESU 10 in 1971 and then received my doctorate in 1973. &nbsp;I retired on June 30, 1988. &nbsp;I thoroughly enjoyed my chosen profession and my responsibilities at the ESU 10. &nbsp;I am so proud of our family. &nbsp;I consider all of my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to be very good looking. &nbsp;I guess if you want to have beautiful offspring, you should always marry a smart, beautiful girl. &nbsp;I think I did that.”Louis lived a long, engaging life, leaving behind an empire of love within his family: his daughter, Barbara Uhrmacher; son, Robert (Darla) Hansen; grandchildren, Shannon (Brian) Rotert, Andrew Uhrmacher, Britnee (Nolan) Cormier, Lauran Hansen, and Louis Dane Hansen; great grandchildren, Drew and Maddyn Rotert, Archer Uhrmacher; sister, Joan (Richard) Nelson; brother-in-law, James Hufman; many nieces, nephews, and other family.Those that Louis joined upon his passing are his beautiful wife, Marian; son, William “Bill”; son in law, Darrel; parents; brothers, Virgil and Gene; sisters, Shirley, Lucille, Margery, Delores; parents-in-law, Lewis and Virginia; sister-in-law, Nancy.Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11 AM at the Sutherland Methodist Church with Rev. Tina Delores Tyan was born on August 10, 1966, in Sutherland, NE, to Edward and Cleo (Slater) Tyan. &nbsp;

At a young age, Tina lost both of her parents and took on the selfless responsibility of caretaking for her younger siblings. &nbsp;After attending North Platte Public Schools, Tina went on to complete some college and then began working as a self-employed interior painter. &nbsp;She brought two sons into the world: Joshua and Chandler. &nbsp;She was so proud of her boys.&nbsp;

Tina was known to be stubborn but incredibly strong and was always the “mom” to those around her. &nbsp;She loved to read, garden and scrapbook in her spare time. Tina was no stranger to anyone and loved to visit and talk. If you know Tina, you know that she had a story for everything.&nbsp;

Survivors of Tina include her son, Chandler (Danin) Tyan of Edmonds, WA; siblings, Camie (Matthew) Cox of Wauneta, Tim (Tracy) Tyan of Wallace, and Dusty Tyan of Godley, TX; a close niece, Heather (Mitch) Pappas of Godley, TX; along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family. Tina is also survived by many friends that she considered to be family.&nbsp;

Tina D Tyan (1966-2024)

Misty Kay McDaniel was born on February 12, 1971, in O’Neill, Nebraska to Connie and Curtis Hood. Later in life, Misty gained a stepmother, Alisha, when Curtis remarried in 1986. The family then moved to Ogallala, where Misty attended school.

&nbsp;Misty and Kevin Davison welcomed a baby girl (Katie) into their lives on November 19th of 1995.&nbsp; It brought her so much joy and happiness to become a mother.

&nbsp;Misty worked at Hoke’s Café as a waitress for many years and later managed the kitchen at the bowling alley in Ogallala. She enjoyed fishing, and cheering on the Huskers, and she almost always solved the Wheel of Fortune puzzles before anyone else.

Later in life, Misty met Rhett Morlang and was able to find true happiness and friendship, although the two would frequently battle each other over rounds of Yahtzee. Misty had recently been able to take a camping trip and use a friend's fifth wheel, which she referred to as “glamping” because all she had known growing up and as an adult was roughing it in the tent, no matter how bad of a storm there was at Lake McConaughy.

Misty was a dear friend and mother-like figure to many, and she will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Katie Davison; Sister, Tina Graham and her daughters Jenette and Paulette, and brother Curtis Hood, half-sister Kendra Schlem (Randy) and their children Logan, Joshua, Kenian, and Heather, half-sister Brandy Rowe and her son Zachary, stepmother for many years, Alisha Siebenthal, aunts Tammi Parker, Mary Skinner, Cathy Casey and her children Ralphy and Darla, best friends Donna Crain and Lori Roberts, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, four-legged companion Buddy, and a grand puppy, Moose.

Misty McDaniel (1971-2024)

&nbsp;On Saturday morning August 17, 2024, during Betty’s last days of her stay in the Perkins County Hospital, Elizabeth Joyce (Fhuere) Frederick, age 89 a resident of Imperial, NE, took up her citizenship in heaven and is now seated in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3).&nbsp;

&nbsp;Betty was born November 19, 1934 in North Platte, NE to Louis S. and Thelma R. (Wells) Fhuere. Betty was the second child and only daughter in her family of five children. Betty lived her childhood in North Platte and then on November 25, 1951 Betty was united in marriage to John A. Frederick of North Platte. The newlyweds made their first home in North Platte. While living there God gave them three daughters: Rogene Katherine, Frances (Fran) Elizabeth, and Jacqueline Patricia. The family then moved to Papillion, NE where God gave them a son, Stewart Paul Nelson and later a foster daughter Heidi Jo.

&nbsp;Betty was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker, active in raising her children. Betty was a master working with needle and thread. Betty made the majority of the families clothing and taught her daughter to be thread artists also. Betty enjoyed sewing, knitting, crochet, various types of embroidery and quilting.

&nbsp;Bey realized because she was a sinner she was separated from God and her good deeds could not please God enough to outweigh her sin. The earnings of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Betty also learned that Jesus the Perfect Lamb of God shed His blood on the cross in payment for and the forgiveness of her sin. Betty put her trust in this truth of forgiveness. One of Betty’s favorite Bible verses is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."&nbsp;

&nbsp;One of Betty’s favorite activities was being a part of the ministry of The Gideon's International. For 48 years Betty was a member of the Auxiliary. Betty was a prayer warrior and zealous about distributing scriptures and telling people how they too could know the forgiveness she received from God.

&nbsp;In January of 1975, Jack and Betty moved to Grant, NE where Jack and Betty purchased a motel and trailer park, then the Dairy Queen in Ogallala, NE, raised ostriches and eventually retired in Imperial, NE. Betty was a caring, loving, praying, and giving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Her family has been greatly blessed by her influence and love.

Elizabeth Frederick (1934-2024)

Owen Max Foster, age 15, of Big Springs, NE passed on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Children’s Hospital in Aurora, CO as a result of a tragic auto accident on May 18, 2024. Owen was born March 15, 2009, at Julesburg, CO to Kendall and Jennifer (Loomis) Foster.

He attended South Platte Schools and had just finished his Freshman year of high school. While he hated the schoolwork, he loved the social aspect and being around teachers and friends. In school, Owen was involved in football, basketball, track, Knight vision and FFA.

Owen enjoyed spending his Wednesday evenings at the Assembly of God church learning God’s word while participating in the Royal Rangers Youth group. He also attended pow-wows at Lexington where his teams often won the obstacle course race.

He was also highly involved in the Pride of the Plains 4-H Club and loved showing his animals. He has taken many static projects over the seven years he was enrolled in 4-H. He has shown lambs, goats, pigs and beef at fairs. The beef had become his favorites and he had set a goal to win a buckle with a steer out of his own herd.&nbsp; He was also involved with the South Platte Shooters 4-H Trap Team and participated in many trap shoots including the Cornhusker State Trap Shoot at Doniphan. He was also a member of the Deuel County Shooters where he participated in hunting skills, BB gun, air rifle, pistol and archery.

Outside of his busy schedule, he loved to ride motorcycles and four wheelers, go hunting and fishing with friends and family, welding, working on his pickup, riding horses and raising his own cattle. He had a profound love of music and could always be found listening to it. Mostly, Owen loved spending time talking to people, friends, family, and anyone that would take interest in his stories.

Owen is survived by his parents, Kendall and Jen Foster, brother Kris Kopetzky and fiancé Megan Orth, grandparents Greg and Deb Foster and Diana Loomis, great-grandmother Mary Krems, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Raymond Loomis, great grandparents Max Krems, Evelyn and Charles Foster, Samuel and Maude Loomis and Elmer and Helen Mundt.

A Celebration of Life will be held, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. in South Platte High School Auditorium with Pastor Todd Lanman officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Big Springs Cemetery in Big Springs, Nebraska.

A memorial has been established in Owen’s name.

Owen, your kind heart, ornery smirk, big smiles, contagious laugh, and those beautiful blue eyes will forever be missed by all.

In school, Owen was involved in football, basketball, track, Knight vision and FFA.Owen enjoyed spending his Wednesday evenings at the Assembly of God church learning God’s word while participating in the Royal Rangers Youth group. He also attended pow-wows at Lexington where his teams often won the obstacle course race.He was also highly involved in the Pride of the Plains 4-H Club and loved showing his animals. He has taken many static projects over the seven years he was enrolled in 4-H. He has shown lambs, goats, pigs and beef at fairs. The beef had become his favorites and he had set a goal to win a buckle with a steer out of his own herd.&nbsp; He was also involved with the South Platte Shooters 4-H Trap Team and participated in many trap shoots including the Cornhusker State Trap Shoot at Doniphan. He was also a member of the Deuel County Shooters where he participated in hunting skills, BB gun, air rifle, pistol and archery.Outside of his busy schedule, he loved to ride motorcycles and four wheelers, go hunting and fishing with friends and family, welding, working on his pickup, riding horses and raising his own cattle. He had a profound love of music and could always be found listening to it. Mostly, Owen loved spending time talking to people, friends, family, and anyone that would take interest in his stories.Owen is survived by his parents, Kendall and Jen Foster, brother Kris Kopetzky and fiancé Megan Orth, grandparents Greg and Deb Foster and Diana Loomis, great-grandmother Mary Krems, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. Owen Max Foster (2009-2024)

Betty JoAnn Bernhardt passed away on August 25, 2024, in Imperial, Nebraska. She was born on November 1, 1939, in Greeley, Colorado to Philip and Pauline (Stroh) Williams, she was the youngest of two children with her brother, Kenneth. JoAnn, as she was known, brought immediate joy to the family.&nbsp;

From her early years spent in the Gill, Colorado area she never shied from helping on the farm or tending to chores with the livestock, always wanting to be with her dad. This led to a strong work ethic which carried out the rest of her life until her passing.&nbsp;

&nbsp;She attended school in Gill from elementary until high school where she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen, graduating in 1957. While in school she became a social butterfly with a personality that attracted many friends whom she carried the rest of her life.&nbsp;

On December 2, 1957, at St. Paul's Congregational Church in Greeley, Colorado she exchanged vows with her husband Donald Bernhardt with the marriage lasting until his passing in 2021. To this union they welcomed sons Kerry and Kurt with daughter Darcy completing the family. Together they raised their children on a small farm in the Gill area. Joann was always very active in her children’s lives during school, 4-H, FFA, and livestock shows.&nbsp;

In pursuit of their farming dreams, the Bernhardt family took a chance and relocated to Champion, Nebraska, in January of 1976. Joann played a key role in establishing their family farm, whether it required driving a tractor, flood irrigating or driving a truck during harvest. Later in the 1980s she helped establish Triple B Commodities, a family trucking company where she took care of the record keeping and dispatching the many trucks where they needed to be. This endeavor continued until her health began to fail in 2018.&nbsp;

Joann found joy in gardening and keeping an immaculate yard after her and Donnie purchased their home in Imperial in 1989. She was particularly a good cook specializing in German dishes. When Joann served a meal, small portions were never an option. In early years, Joann enjoyed going to Dutch Hop dances and found comradery in the sport of bowling. Yet, her greatest joy came when she became a grandparent and was able to cheer on her grandchildren at their many activities. She also cherished the many trips she was able to take to Ft. Myers, Florida to visit her daughter.&nbsp;

For over two decades JoAnn embraced her role at the Imperial Inn as a front desk clerk, where she formed lasting connections with guests and took pleasure in creating a welcoming atmosphere. Her positive and joyful attitude always helped uplift the spirits of her coworkers, making her an invaluable team member at the Inn.&nbsp;

As a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, Joann found fellowship as well as being a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. Her community involvement reflected her unwavering commitment to helping others and bringing a smile to anyone she came into contact with.&nbsp;

JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Donald; and her brother, Kenneth Williams.&nbsp;

She is survived by her sons, Kerry and Kurt (Kristi) Bernhardt all of Chase County, NE; her beloved daughter, Darcy Bernhardt (Joseph Mooney) of Fort Myers, Florida; four grandchildren, Preston Bernhardt, Alexa Banks (Jeff), Austin Bernhardt and Ryan Bernhardt, two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Kinsley; and numerous other relatives and friends who will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.&nbsp;

Visitation for JoAnn will take place on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. (MT) at Liewer Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. (MT) at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, with Pastor Scott Adle officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Imperial.&nbsp;

JoAnn Bernhardt (1939-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;William Seymour "Bill" Richardson, age 82 of Valentine, Nebraska, was born on November 19, 1942 in Valentine, Nebraska to William J. and Ennis Lovejoy Richardson.&nbsp; He passed away on August 25, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Bill attended Valentine Elementary and Valentine High Schools.&nbsp; He later attended El Centro, CA and Chadron State College and ran track.&nbsp; Bill married Julie Kotrous on January 2, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada and on July 26, 2018 in Valentine, Nebraska. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Bill was a retired rancher and truck driver.&nbsp; He was a 50+ year Master Mason of the Silver Cord Lodge No. 244 and attended St. John's Episcopal Church.&nbsp; He had a great lover for Harley Davidson Motorcycles and that started with a ride on his Uncle Lorne's Harley in the 1960's.&nbsp; Buying his first brand new Harley in 1978, that same motorcycle still remains in the family today.&nbsp; He enjoyed being on the road, whether it be a day trip or a two week trip, gathering over 4 million miles in a semi-truck.&nbsp; Bill loved to visit, whether he had known you for&nbsp; years or just met, he always loved to engage in conversation.&nbsp; Bill had a very strong work ethic which he has passed down to his children.&nbsp; After a long week of work, Bill would enjoy a Black Velvet and water (the amount of water depended on if any speeding tickets were involved that week). &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He was very proud that at 73 years old, he had all of his points on his driver's license since first getting his license at 16 years old.&nbsp; After his 3rd retirement, he enjoyed yard work and scooping snow for his neighbors, having coffee with his friends and motorcycle trips with his motorcycle gang.&nbsp; Bill was always a willing dance partner, a constant jokester, a phenomenal friend, and a seamless father. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Preceding Bill in death were his parents, William J. William Seymour "Bill" Richardson  (1941-2024)

Merlyn grace, age 83, of rural Lewellen, Nebraska passed away Thursday evening, August 22, 2024 at the Garden County Health Services Hospital in Oshkosh, Nebraska after a courageous battle with cancer.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT at Ash Hollow Cemetery near Lewellen, Nebraska with Brenda Tophoj, PMA officiating.&nbsp; A time of fellowship and a meal will follow at the Lewellen Tiger Den.&nbsp; Please come as you are, cowboy boots and jeans are just fine, and share stories and memories of Merlyn.

Merlyn George Grace was born on July 22, 1941 to Dale and Vi Grace at their home on the ranch near Lewellen, Nebraska.&nbsp; Merlyn attended school in Lewellen, graduating in 1959.&nbsp; As a little boy, many days were spent spearing catfish in the river with his brothers.&nbsp; While in high school, Merlyn was active in all sports, as well as a member of band, chorus, and a boy's quartet.

After high school, Merlyn moved to the family ranch in the Sandhills, 40 miles north of Lewellen.&nbsp; This is where he would call home for the next 37 years being a rancher.

He met Arlene Mekelburg while attending the stock show in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp; They later married on may 14, 1967.&nbsp; Merlyn and Arlene had two daughters, Geri in December 1969 and Julie in October 1973.

Merlyn was the definition of a true cattleman; God made him to be a rancher.&nbsp; He loved the Sandhills and his family.&nbsp; He had a great compassion for the cattle and believed in working hard for the family brand.&nbsp; Living in the Rackett community, Merlyn always felt grateful for all the good neighbors.&nbsp; Every first Saturday in June, at the Grace branding, was the perfect example of the value of good neighbors and friends who gathered from miles around.

Merlyn also had a passion for flying, following in his dad's footsteps, he got his pilot's license at an early age.&nbsp; Whether he was checking cattle, windmills, fences on the summer range, being the "eye of the sky" locating grass fires for the Rackett Volunteer Fire Department, or making that quick landing by a blowout to look for that perfect arrowhead, Merlyn always loved the view of the Sandhills from above in the Supercub.

Merlyn and Arlene retired and bought a home outside Lewellen in 1997.&nbsp; After moving closer to town, Merlyn stayed actively involved in the family farming operations.&nbsp; In the snowy months, on non-Husker gamedays, of course, Merlyn discovered a new hobby of woodworking in his shop.&nbsp; Being self-taught, he spent many hours building wishing wells while listening to the songs of Marty Robbins, Willie Nelson, and Merle Haggard.&nbsp; Merlyn and Arlene celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in may 2024.

Merlyn is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Lewellen, Nebraska; daughters, Geri (Larry) Alworth of Oshkosh, Nebraska and Julie (Rick) Kreuter of Big Springs, Nebraska; grandchildren, Melissa (Brandon), Jenna, and Nick; great-grandchildren, Jailyn, Ember, Conner, Peyton, and Sage; sister, JoAnn Podkonyak; brother, Butch (Jeannie) Grace of Lewellen, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

Merlyn Grace  (1941-2024)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Echlyn Michael Ogier, who left us too soon at the age of 17 on August 15, 2024.

 A cherished son, brother, and friend, Echlyn was known for his infectious energy, kind heart, and bright future. Born on May 15, 2007, Echlyn was feisty, hard headed and determined. He loved listening to music, dancing, playing sports and hanging out with friends. 

Echlyn is survived by his parents, Amber and Jason Grafford of Minot, ND and Paul and Jami Ogier of Alma, NE; his siblings, Brayten Ogier, Zaxtyn and Kortyn Grafford, and Kaylan and Hendryx Ogier, and numerous other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He is remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the countless moments of joy he shared with those he loved. 

A memorial service to celebrate Echlyn's life will be held on Saturday, August 31 at 10:00 am at Draucker Funeral Home with Pastor Wesley Harmon of the New Life Church in Ogallala officiating. A cherished son, brother, and friend, Echlyn was known for his infectious energy, kind heart, and bright future. Born on May 15, 2007, Echlyn was feisty, hard headed and determined. He loved listening to music, dancing, playing sports and hanging out with friends. Echlyn is survived by his parents, Amber and Jason Grafford of Minot, ND and Paul and Jami Ogier of Alma, NE; his siblings, Brayten Ogier, Zaxtyn and Kortyn Grafford, and Kaylan and Hendryx Ogier, and numerous other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He is remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the countless moments of joy he shared with those he loved. A memorial service to celebrate Echlyn's life will be held on Saturday, August 31 at 10:00 am at Draucker Funeral Home with Pastor Wesley Harmon of the New Life Church in Ogallala officiating. Echlyn Michael Ogier (2007-2024)

John Irwin Lloyd Piepho, 66, passed away on Friday, August 23rd, 2024. John was born in Keystone, Nebraska on February 20th, 1958 to Lloyd Carl Piepho and Eleanor Irene Graham Piepho. John graduated from Ogallala Senior High School in 1976. He went on to earn an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from Eastern Wyoming College in 1979. 

He married his wife Kimberly Ann Robertson on May 15th, 1982 and the two made a life together raising their two children: Meghan Xanthe Piepho who was born May 8th, 1984 and John Clements Piepho who was born May 10th, 1987. John was a dedicated man who lived his life in service to his family and his friends. He went to work for Haythorn Land &amp; Cattle at the age of 15 and he spent the next 46 years being a cowboy - the only thing he had ever wanted to be. 

In 2019, John and Kim moved into town and he began a new career with his son at a plumbing company where he learned a new way of life and got to serve his community in a new way. He was a champion, a husband, a father, and a man of God. John loved God with all his heart, soul and strength. He was the spiritual leader in his home and offered guidance, support and wisdom to others. John was known for his strong sense of purpose in work and in his faith. 

John is survived by his wife Kimberly Ann Piepho, his daughter Meghan and Tyler Griffin, his son JC and Megan Piepho, his two twin granddaughters, Jem and Belle Griffin, and his sister Julie Piepho and David Bee. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Eleanor Piepho and his grandparents Carl and Della Piepho and Lloyd and Mabel Graham. Memorial Services will be 3:00 pm Thursday, August 29th, 2024 at the New Hope Church in Ogallala with Pastor Matt Waitley officiating.

 A memorial has been established to the Ogallala Roundup Rodeo. Private family Committal service will be held at a later date. John I.L. Piepho (1958-2024)

Eugene Marion “Geno” Vapenik, 76, of Cassville, Wisconsin, passed away on May 14, 2023.&nbsp;

Born on November 4, 1946 in Imperial, Nebraska, he was a devoted father, brother and friend, known for his compassionate spirit and dedication to his community.&nbsp;

Gene graduated from Madrid High School in 1964 and furthered his education at McCook College, graduating in 1966.

Shortly thereafter, he entered the United States Navy, where he served valiantly during the Vietnam War. After basic training, he attended Basic Hospital Corps School and Field Medical Service School. Gene was attached to a Marine unit, earning the title of “Devil Doc.” His service included commendable achievements and he was honorably discharged in November of 1970, decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Cross Gallantry, Vietnam Service Medal with Marine Corps device and one bronze star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V.”

Following his military service, Gene relocated to Wisconsin where he continued his career in the medical field. He obtained his PA license and dedicated many years to caring for others as a Physicians Assistant and later as a nurse, until his retirement.

Gene had a passion for the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He was skilled in various crafts including gun tinkering, carving, engraving, and gardening. An avid collector and sharpener of knives, Gene also enjoyed sitting back, smoking his pipe and watching the birds, especially hummingbirds that visited his Wisconsin home.&nbsp;

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers were his favorite dog breed and he had several. Horus was his last and best “Chessie,” and Gene later shared him with Tim and his family. He also kept a keen eye on governmental affairs, which he followed with great interest.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Dawn Marie-Elizabeth.&nbsp;Military Services will be held on August 30 at 11 a.m. CT at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska. A luncheon will follow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at 3301 Echo Drive, North Platte.&nbsp;Gene’s life and service will be honored in a manner benefitting his significant contributions to his country and community.&nbsp;
