Mark Edward Armstrong, age 71 of Big Springs, Nebraska passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024, with his wife Michelle (Soper) Armstrong by his side.

Mark Armstrong was born on July 20, 1953, in Grant, NE to Allen and Arlene (Donahue) Armstrong of Big Springs, Nebraska. Mark graduated high school in 1971 in Grant, Nebraska. Mark then married his sweetheart Michelle (Soper) Armstrong on September 8, 1979, and have been married for 45 years. Together Mark and Michelle enjoyed raising their family together.

Mark enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking trips to Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Texas. He loved fishing in Estes Park, Colorado, and Wyoming.

Mark lived in Brule, Nebraska, Whitman, Nebraska, and Big Springs. In his adventures in his lifetime, Mark enjoyed his ranch life, raising cattle and having his roping horses. Mark was involved in team roping in which he won several jackpots.

He held offices involved in the American Quarter Horse Association. Mark also loved doing the wild horse races and riding cows at the local fairs. Mark also served on the Junior Board at the elevator and 4-H in Deuel County.

Mark enjoyed going on trail rides on horseback with his children. He loved dancing at rodeos it was one of the highlights of life that brought him so much joy, he even once danced at the Elks Lodge in Westminster, Colorado. If there was a rodeo dance, you would more than likely find Mark kicking up his boots.

Over the years Mark worked for Garth Ogier, of Whitman, Nebraska, Duanne Hoover of Brule, Nebraska, Max Soper of Big Springs, Nebraska; as a self-employed farmer for a time, HS&S of Brule, Nebraska and; Darrell and Brian Armstrong of Brule.

Mark fought prostate cancer and bone cancer for five years traveling to North Platte, Nebraska, Fort Collins, Colorado, Seattle, Washington and Blaine, Washington for treatments. When Mark wasn’t traveling for treatments, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Mark is survived by his wife Michelle (Soper) Armstong; his children, Kandace (Alex) Footman of Blaine, Washington, Dixie (Tim) Chilzer of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and Chase (Emma) Armstrong of Sidney, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Zander, Savii, Mark, and Riggs; three siblings, Beverly (Jerry) Baker of Northglenn, Colorado, Connie (Jack) Barker of Knoxville, Tennessee and Roger (Elaine) Armstrong of Berthoud, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Arlene Armstrong; his grandparents and infant sister Gloria Armstrong.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. in The Assembly of God Church with Chaplain Robin Storer and Pastor Jared Mitchell officiating in Big Springs, Nebraska.

Inurnment will be in the Big Springs Cemetery, Big Springs, Nebraska.

A memorial has been established for The Big Springs Fire Department.
