Katherine “Katie” Groves, age 42, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

She was born September 16, 1982, in North Platte to Bill and Linda (Mowers) Groves. Katie was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was a faithful member. After a successful career in high school debate, she graduated from North Platte High School in 2001. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from Chadron State College in 2005. After graduating, Katherine began working for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. While working for the state, she felt a calling for helping children and moved to Probation Services. There her passions were fulfilled and she found that children were her heart. After falling ill, Katie had to step back from her job and commitments. But ever looking to volunteer, Katie was instrumental in implementing the After School Care Program at Our Redeemer Lutheran School. This program allowed working parents childcare after school hours. Even while battling brain cancer, she still found the energy to be an active member of the Lincoln County Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) Board.

Although she was always busy, Katie never neglected her passions. Among her loves were shoes and clothes. She was also an accomplished cook; she cooked for brandings and was never afraid to try new dishes and techniques for her loved ones to enjoy. She was known to be quite crafty, with a penchant for diamond painting and a drive for quilting, keeping her friends’ babies warm with hand-made quilts. Even with all her commitments and hobbies, she always made time for family and was a frequent attendee of her younger relatives’ soccer and basketball games. Kate loved her Lord Jesus Christ and is now blessed to be in His presence.

Those left to cherish Katie’s memory are her parents Bill and Linda Groves and her dog Loki, as well as many, many more friends, family, and children whose lives she touched.

She is preceded in death by her Uncle Matt, grandparents, and many other aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family for church and school projects important to Kate.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Curtis Cemetery. Judy was always a mother first, a wife, a hog farmer, and a property manager/landlord. She kept her mind strong with daily crossword puzzles, sudoku, word finds, and jigsaw puzzles. She will be remembered by her friends and family as having a love for arts and crafts and many sewing projects over the years. Judy had a special love of painting with her beloved group of paint friends which created many paintings displayed at her home and at her family’s homes. Judy dedicated many years of volunteering at the Salvation Army, reading with school children, and at the Lincoln County Historical Museum.

Judy was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years, having served as treasurer, teaching Sunday School, tending to the little ones in the nursery, and helping with vacation bible school.

Judy’s greatest joy was her family. She treasured each of them dearly!

Judy is survived by her husband, Bill, her children, Lori Jensen, her husband, Nate and their children, Nathan (Renita) and Lindsee (Joseph) Fryatt, Jerry Stone, Brad Stone, his children, Courtney and Jacob, and their mother, Toni, Ted Stone, his wife Traci and their children Ashley and William, and five great grandchildren. Judy is also survived by her siblings, Casey and Tod Morgan, her sister, Jill Woodward, a special sister in-law, Helen Fassnacht and Becky Audus, who she cared for like a daughter.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jerry Morgan.

Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike Murray officiating.

Visitation will be from Noon to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Judith Ann Stone (1944-2025)

Charles Richard Heinis, 83, a long-time resident of Ogallala and North Platte, passed away peacefully at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his family. Charles was born March 5th, 1943, in Ottawa Kansas to the parents of Charlie (Ben) and Agnus (Harms) Heinis.

He attended and graduated from Wallace High School in 1961. Charles “Butch” “Chuck” Heinis met his soul mate, Connie Rae Heinis in 1960 at the roller-skating rink in Grant. Butch and Connie dated for four years. They were married on May 24, 1964, at the Ogallala United Methodist Church. Charles was in the Air Force, and they were stationed in Great Falls, Montana, and Austin, Texas. When Charles was discharged from the Air Force, they lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Everett, Washington before settling in Ogden, Utah, in 1971 where he worked at Hill Air Force Base. Then moved back to Ogallala, Nebraska and then North Platte, Nebraska.

Charles worked at Hill Air Force Base for 32 years as an F-16 mechanic and later moved to the control room. While he was working at HAFB he started his own business, Chuck’s Saw Filing. He continued this passion through his retirement. After he retired, he and Connie moved to Ogallala, NE where he turned his business into his full-time hobby.

Charles was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease over 20 years ago. He never let that stop him from doing anything he wanted to do. Whether it be riding in a NASCAR, traveling, sharpening saws, bowling, working on cars, working with wood, gardening, and no one will ever forget his amazing paintings.

Charles lived life from his heart and was a proud Dad, Uncle, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa. Just like his wife, he loved family, regardless if you were related by blood. He loved to have fun in life. He was always the first one to lend a hand or the first to crack a joke. He always made it a point to make sure everyone was included in his life.

Charles was welcomed to Heaven with golden wings by his wife Connie Heinis, parents, Ben and Agnus Heinis, mother and father-in-law, John and V. Wanaleen Preitauer; Brother, Benni Heinis; Son in law, Shane Payne and Grandsons, Kenny Lambertus and Candon John Heinis.

Charles is survived by; his son, Corban (Johanna) Heinis of North Platte; daughters, Carma Payne of Plain City, Utah, and Kaohu (Ko) Kanakaole of Ogden, Utah, daughter in law Kim Heinis of Comstock; 2 children not by blood but welcomed as family- a Son Travis (Kara) Lee of North Platte, NE, a daughter Lesley (Brian) Cunningham of Ogden, Utah. He also leaves behind a brother Terry (Anita) Heinis of Hastings, NE. Sisters Charlotte (Herb) Ruser of Ogallala, NE, Barbara (Lowell) Eleo of Mason City, NE. Several Nieces and Nephews.

Charles R Heinis (1943-2025)

&nbsp; Mary Elizabeth Fairley was 94 years old when she peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on March 16, 2025, while residing at Linden Court in North Platte, NE. &nbsp;Mary was born February 8, 1931, to Emmett and Grace (Lay) Eagan at Hutchinson, KS, where she grew up.&nbsp; After graduating from Hutchinson High School in 1948 she attended Hutchinson Junior College, graduating from there in 1950.&nbsp; Years later Mary went back to school and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Kearney State College in 1976. On June 2, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Carol C. Fairley at the First Christian Church in Hutchinson then the couple moved to North Platte a few months later.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two girls and two boys. Mary was an elementary substitute teacher for North Platte Public Schools then became a librarian at the North Platte Public Library in 1959.&nbsp; She worked as a children's librarian for 32 years until retiring in 1991. When Mary was a youth, she earned her Girl Scout Gold Bar Award then when her girls were young she served as a Girl Scout Leader and was Secretary to Guiding Star Girl Scout Council.&nbsp; Mary was also an R.S.V.P. volunteer for many years and an active member of First Christian Church where she served as Diaconate, Elder and Elder Emeritus, taught Sunday School and was secretary to the board and the C.W.F. Carol and Mary celebrated over 61 years of marriage and enjoyed traveling.&nbsp; Together they visited the Holy Land, Europe, South America, Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii.&nbsp; Mary also got to enjoy a Caribbean cruise with the girls.&nbsp; In her free time, Mary liked to knit, making many prayer shawls over the years, and loved reading.&nbsp; She also enjoyed sewing when her kids were younger.

She is survived by her children, Marilyn Kolesar of Sun Lakes, AZ, John(Linda) Fairley of Minatare and William (Mary) Fairley of North Platte; son-in-law, Calvin Clinger of North Platte; grandchildren, Shaun Clinger, Lt. Col. Jared (Jennifer) Clinger, Crystal (Santos) Contreras, Timothy (Shannon) Kolesar, Joshua (Christy) Fairley, Tammy Reynolds, Dr. Ryan (Kaitlin) Fairley and Amy Fairley; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; two nephews, Ron Knerr and Lawrence Kemper; and other family. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Carol, and daughter, Patricia Clinger; parents, Emmett and Grace Eagan; her sister, Caroline Knerr; niece, Judy Knerr; and grandson, Paul Kolesar.

Mary Elizabeth Fairley (1931-2025)

Fred Ward Goodell was born on March 11, 1946 to Ward and Helen Goodell in Jacksonville, Florida. He passed away in his home in North Platte, Nebraska on March 14, 2025 at the age of 79.

After being born in Florida, they moved to Redfield, South Dakota and then later to Omaha, Nebraska where Fred spent most of his growing up years. He enjoyed playing baseball and football and his athletic claim to fame was tackling Gale Sayers in high school. He graduated from Omaha Benson High School.

After graduating high school, he joined the United States Navy and served as a petty officer, an officer over 10-20 men. During his time of service, he served during the Vietnam War. After serving in the navy for four years he then returned to Omaha, Nebraska.

He married Kathleen Dowd May 17, 1969. They were blessed with their only child, a son, John Goodell. He spent the majority of his working career working as a salesman at Nebraska machinery.

In his free time, he coached little league and Fred especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved and adored his grandchildren. He loved spending time with them and doing all sorts of activities with them that they enjoyed including sledding, fishing, hunting, or taking them to the arcade or bowling. He was a generous, fun-loving man who enjoyed a good harmless prank with his grandchildren every now and then. In 2018, Fred professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized.

Fred is survived by his wife Kathy Goodell; his son, John (Angela) Goodell; his grandchildren, Jordan, Charis, Elijah, Andrew and Ally Goodell; and his great-grandchildren Audrey and Addalyn; his siblings, Patty (David) Miller, Mark (Jann) Goodell, and David (Tammy) Goodell.

Fred is preceded in death by his dad, Ward Goodell; his mom, Helen Goodell; his brother, Steve Goodell and his granddaughter, Tatum Goodell.

Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, March 19. 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Gavin “Peanut” or “Boy” Michael Cable passed away unexpectedly in Aurora, CO, at the age of 19. Gavin earned the nickname “peanut” when he entered this world, weighing 3 lbs, 5 oz, on June 25th, 2005, in Ogallala, NE. “Boy” was given to him by his dad and grandma; with Gavin running with his arms open for a hug every time they said it.

Gavin was so carefree with the biggest heart; no matter where he went, he made friends. Gavin had an out of this world laugh and a smirk when he was up to no good. Regardless of what Gavin did or where he did it, he knew the definition of fun and lived for it, from his “Steve Irwin” dives at snakes to screaming and running from spiders. Gavin poured his heart into the things he loved, whether that be fishing, hunting, drawing, video games, football, wrestling, and most importantly, frequenting the gym. The love he held for his two brothers, his family, and friends was immense. Gavin had a special bond with his cousin, Cheyenne.

Gavin lived, laughed, loved, lost. He did what he wanted to do, when he wanted, with a smile on his face.

He is survived by his parents, Mark (Jami) Cable of North Platte, and Melissa (Adam) Kendall of Wallace; brothers, Ryder and Trysten Cable; step-brother, Hunter Swanson; grandparents, Ila and Casey Kendall of Sutherland, Bonnie Cable of South Carolina, and Lynn and Kathy Swanson of Wallace; aunts, Chelsea Cable of South Carolina, Amy (Jeremy) Weiler of Remsen, IA, Lisa (Nick) Brand of Yukon, NE, and Dyanne Smith of Ogallala; uncles, Jamey Kendall of Sutherland and Daniel Swanson of Wallace; many cousins, great uncles and aunts.

Gavin Cable (2005-2025)

Ralph Kenneth Ogier passed away peacefully listening to Pink Floyd on Wednesday, March 11, 2025 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Ralph was born on March 17, 1959 to Garth Kenneth and Bethel Jolyne (Andrews) Ogier in Grant, Nebraska.&nbsp; He was the second of five children and was named for his paternal grandfather.

Ralph grew up on a ranch north of Hyannis, Nebraska.&nbsp; He spent many hours playing in the Sandhills.&nbsp; I'm sure if you look, you will find buried G.I. Joes who bravely died in battle!

If you knew Ralph, you knew he couldn't sit still.&nbsp; He either was tapping out a rhythm or had his foot moving.&nbsp; I think this helped him as a percussionist in band, where he earned the John Phillip Sousa Award.&nbsp; He graduated from Hyannis High School in 1977.&nbsp; He then enrolled at Milford SCC for diesel mechanics.&nbsp; On the first day there, he met John Stone and that friendship has continued to this day.

Ralph and Charlene met at an R.E.O. Speedwagon concert in July 1988.&nbsp; They were married on July 28, 1989.&nbsp; Ralph became a step-dad to Nichole Renee and Whitney Dru.&nbsp; In December of 1990, their family was completed with the birth of a son, Timothy Garth.

Ralph was always a kid at heart.&nbsp; He played cops and robbers with the neighbor kids.&nbsp; Many hours were spent on the floor playing Lego's with Tim.&nbsp; If nieces or nephews wanted to go to the part, they'd ask Uncle Ralph, as he would most likely take them!&nbsp; Memories the kids shared include a time of fishing at the canal with Nichole and a bird landed on his head.&nbsp; Ralph didn't shoo it away, he just let it be!&nbsp; There were many other memories with the boys fishing, camping, dove hunting, trap shooting, kayaking, and even a canoe trip or two down the Snake River with his sister Jo's family.&nbsp; Enrique remembers playing GI Joes in the sandbox with Papa.

Ralph was happiest when he could be outside.&nbsp; That was where he felt closest to God.&nbsp; He was very spiritual and accepted Jesus into his heart at a young age.&nbsp; If you knew Ralph for a friend, you had a loyal friend for life!&nbsp; If there was something he could help you with, he would be there.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Charlene Louise (Palmateer); his father, Garth; daughter, Nichole (Patrick) Maez; son, Timothy (Andrea); grandsons, Talbot (fiancé, Elizather Menzer) and Enrique Maez; and soon to be great-granddaughter, Gracelynn Dru Buchholz; brother, Jim (JoAnn); sisters, Nicki (Doug) Brennemann, Rosalie (Wayne) Morgan; brother-in-law, Roy Westover; plus many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Bethel; daughter and son-in-law, Whitney and Roy Buchholz; parents-in-law, Allen and Carol Palmateer; and sister, Jolyne Westover.

Ralph, you are so loved and missed, but we are so glad you are no longer suffering.&nbsp; This isn't good-bye, but see you later.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg, Nebraska with the family present from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Ralph Kenneth Ogier  (1959-2025)

Carolyn Kay Kemp (82) of Tryon, Nebraska passed away on March 10, 2025 at Linden Court in North Platte. She was born on August 12, 1942 in North Platte to Roy and Ila (Banks) Black. Carolyn grew up on the family ranch 10 miles north of Ringgold. She had an older sister, Marilyn and younger brother, Dale. The kids were taught hard work at a young age. Carolyn attended Hall School – District 7 a small country school north of Ringgold. She graduated from McPherson County High School with the Class of 1959. After graduation, she worked for Goodalls in Ogallala winding condensers. Carolyn married Richard Kemp on July 3, 1960 at the Tryon Methodist Church. To this union, two children were born: Gaylene Kay and Lamar James.

Carolyn had a deep love for Jesus and loved to sing. You would often hear her humming a tune or singing one of her favorite songs, The Old Rugged Cross. One of her special moments was a four-generation baptism, where Carolyn was baptized with her daughter Gaylene, granddaughter Jessica, and great-granddaughter Josie.

Carolyn was a great cook! Without a doubt, she made the best potato salad and fried chicken. It wasn’t a family picnic without her potato salad and she always picked out the best watermelon. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch and canasta. Carolyn loved her family dearly and had a special love for animals, especially her cats, dogs and cattle. She was a long-time member of the Willing Workers Extension Club. Carolyn loved to garden and spent many long hard days working alongside her husband, Richard, on the family ranch.

Survivors include her daughter Gaylene (John) McCall of North Platte; brother Dale (Carol) Black of Ringgold; five grandchildren, Jessica (BJ) Wilson, Jennifer (Josh) Staab, Ben (Alexa) McCall, James Kemp, and Christopher Kemp, all of North Platte; ten great grandchildren, Hali, Levi, Carsen, Josie, Oakley, Axel, Hadlee, Hagen, Heston and Remyton; two great-great grandchildren, Waylon and Welder as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends. She was proceeded in death by her husband Richard, her parents, son Lamar, sister Marilyn, and infant granddaughter Rebecca Leanne Kemp.

Memorials are suggested to the McPherson County Fire &amp; Rescue or donor’s choice. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 1:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte with Pastor Mike Evans officiating. Burial will follow at the Miller Cemetery near Tryon. Visitation will be Sunday, March 16th from 2 to 6pm, with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Terry grew up in Sutherland where he graduated from high school then attended the Vo-Tech program at Mid Plains Community College. &nbsp;He went on to work in construction and liked to do wood work and build furniture. &nbsp;He also liked classic cars and putting together model cars. &nbsp;

Terry Yonker (1976-2025)

&nbsp; Rowena "Rae" Gullion was born October 24, 1933, to Clarence and Stella Worley in North Platte where she has resided all her life.&nbsp; She peacefully passed away at home on March 10, 2025, at age 91. Rae graduated from North Platte High School in 1951 then married a few months later on August 17, 1951, to Donald Gullion. Rae worked for Platte Valley Finance then North Platte Trust. After 30 years she retired and went to work for Bonnie Bade at the North Platte Travel Agency.&nbsp; She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was involved in a variety of activities.&nbsp; She volunteered with R.S.V.P. and was an avid bowler, bowling her way into the North Platte Hall of Fame. Rae's hobbies were quilting and cross stitching.&nbsp; She loved her family and supported her children and all her grandkids in their various sporting activities.&nbsp; With the support and care of family and her special friend, Robin Brown, Rae was able to stay in her home up to the end.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents, Clarence and Stella Worley; and sister, Judie and husband Phil Leibfried. Cheryl Ann Stanford (Moser)  [1964-2025]

Kenneth L. “Kenny” Keck, age 68, of North Platte passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Kenny was born December 20, 1956, in Columbus, NE, to William “Bill” Charles and Shirley Ann (Blair) Keck. Kenny spent his youngest years in Columbus where his Dad worked for Union Pacific Railroad. The family moved west to Grand Island and on to North Platte during his sophomore year of high school. In 1975 Kenny graduated from St. Patrick’s High School, lettering in basketball and football. He left behind a legacy as one of the hardest hitters on the football field.

Just out of high school, Kenny worked in construction briefly before being hired on at the Union Pacific Railroad at the age of 19. He was a loyal and valued employee for 49 years that included time spent being active in their Total Safety Culture Program that brought recognition for his commitment to improved safety in the workplace. In addition to the railroad, Kenny started Keck Sharpening Service, or more commonly referred to as the “Shop”, where he became a Master Sharpener. At the Shop he ensured blades were sharp to include over 20 years serving customers in North Platte and surrounding communities in west central Nebraska. Through the shop Kenny supported sporting events, sharpening the mower blades for St. Patrick’s School and many large blades used at the local Premdor Company.

Kenny was always a hard-worker, yet knew how to have fun with every free moment spent with family and friends. In 1997 Kenny met the love of his life, Teresa Wood. The two were wed October 2, 1998, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. To this union was born his beloved daughters Leela and Josie. Through the years of spending time with his many nieces and nephews, being the favorite Uncle, it was the birth of his girls he called his “squirrels”, that he found new interests serving as a parent coaching their softball and basketball teams. Then a most true love when they were blessed with their granddaughter Paisley Marie Barker.

Kenny’s passion for life was seen through his smile, generosity, sharp wit and sometimes uncalculated memorable moments. Whether it be on the train and pulling a Willie, manicuring the home lawn or spending time with family and friends. Through the years he fully enjoyed whipping the Fun Deck boat around the lake, hosting 4th of July parties, helping at church events and supporting local sports teams. Kenny was always checking in, making friends and spreading smiles, or possibly groans with his jokes. Of course, he saved the best of himself for his expanding family to include the addition of his new son-in-law Brayden Barker. Kenny took pride in his daughters, their sports and above all their education. His memory will always live on through all the lives he touched.

Those left to cherish Kenny’s memory are his wife of 26 years Teresa L. Keck; daughters Leela Marie Keck of Lincoln and Josie Lynn (Brayden) Barker of North Platte; brothers Allan Keck of Grand Island, Steve (Cindy) Keck of North Platte, Keven (Alice) Keck of North Platte, and Dick Keck of Kearney; sisters Kathy Buck and Dorothy (Hubert Sorrells) Savory of North Platte; granddaughter Paisley Marie Barker; and many more cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A book signing will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Robert Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at North Platte Cemetery. Barbara Jean Edmonds, 80, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away March 1, 2025 at North Platte Care Center. She was born on February 17, 1945, to Elmer and Margaret (Grooms) Smith in Nemaha, Nebraska.

Barbara grew up in Nemaha, Nebraska and graduated from Nemaha High School with the class of 1963. She was united in marriage to Paul Edmonds and to this union a daughter, Deanna, was born. While living in Nemaha, Barbara worked as a seamstress at the sewing factory in Auburn, Nebraska. In the early 1980’s she began working at Peru State College in the custodial department and worked there until the late 1990s. Before she retired, Barbara worked for Region 5 as a caregiver in Auburn, Nebraska. In 2022, she moved to North Platte to be closer to her family. Barbara will be remembered for her giggles. She enjoyed listening to bands, dancing, and crocheting. She loved her family, especially her grandson, Ryan Pennington.

Survivors include her daughter, Deanna (Ed Knotts) Pennington, North Platte, Nebraska; grandson, Ryan Pennington, South Sioux City, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Sylvia Smith, San Antonio, Texas.

Esther Louise Rutan, 100, of North Platte, NE passed away February 27, 2025 at North Platte Care Center with her family by her side. Esther was born on April 9, 1924 to George and Addie (Hunt) Razes in North Platte.

Esther graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1942. She worked at Coreyll Café for a time. Esther met Melvin Rutan at a dance, and they were married in May of 1948, in Ogallala, NE. They lived in Ogallala before moving to North Platte where Esther and Melvin raised their family, in the home Melvin built. Esther will be remembered as an excellent wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother. Esther enjoyed cooking, cleaning and entertaining all of her family. Decorating her home and repurposing old items were things she was very good at and enjoyed doing. Esther was always painting, planting or sanding something within her home. Esther enjoyed spending time in her yard gardening and planting flowers. Esther always enjoyed music she was always singing and dancing. Her grandchildren always looked forward to spending time with grandma. Esther’s house was open to anyone and the key place for holidays and dinners.

&nbsp; Roger Wesley Adkins II was born July 30, 1945 in Omaha, NE to Roger Wesley Adkins and Marion Virginia (Howell) Adkins. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 28th, 2025 at Ogallala Community Hospital. Roger was raised in Omaha, NE, along with his 2 sisters. They, alongside their 18 first cousins, all grew up in the area as near siblings. He attended Omaha North High School until his family relocated to Alliance, NE. He graduated in 1963 from Alliance High School and in his senior year, Roger was told by his school counselor that “he should just join the Army because he will never amount to anything.” He did go on to serve 7 years in the Army National Guard, including a few of his self-proclaimed “lost years”, filled with adventures and good times. When his younger sister, Elaine, was loading up her car getting ready to go off to college, he said he was packing up his bags and going along because his girlfriend Judi’s dad would never let him marry her unless he went to school. Roger then married his lifelong love Judith Ann (Chamberlin) on August 18, 1968, in their hometown, Alliance. He graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Chadron State College in 1971. He taught vocal music and was the Media Specialist at Genoa Public School for 10 years while he attended the graduate program at UNL, where he received his Masters Degree in Education Administration. Following that, he was working towards his Specialist Degree at UNO, where he proudly said that he finally quit school. He then worked as the Elementary Principal at Genoa until 1990, when he and his family moved to Ogallala, NE. There he was hired as the first Media/Technology Director of ESU #16 and took much pride in building that program. Roger retired after 40 fulfilling years in education in May of 2011. Roger was a very active member and faithful servant of his church and he always had a song in his heart. He started singing in the choir at Olivet Baptist Church in Omaha as a child. He eventually became the choir director at the First Methodist Church in Genoa and at the United Methodist Church in Ogallala. He even frequently sang with the choir at St. Mark’s Methodist Church in Lincoln as a visitor. He loved nothing more than blaring his music and singing along and it was always infectious. Over the years he also participated in multiple men’s Bible studies, for a decade he played Peter the disciple in the Last Supper production, and he sang in a Christian quartet, Messengers 4. He found great comfort and strength in his salvation and lived his life for Jesus. The summer of 2011, he and his brother-in-law Paul went on the trip of a lifetime to Israel and he talked and gave presentations on it for years afterward. Roger was a friend of many and an enemy of none and was loyal to those he held dear. He lived his life with optimism, generosity, and impeccably -timed humor. Nearly every story shared about him involves a joke or prank, how he made everyone feel welcome, and how he always had an extra hand for helping. He adored his family and friends and loved spending time with them, supporting their activities and being present. His most honored roles were that of husband, son, brother, father, Poppie, uncle, and friend. Some of his many other accolades were being a member of professional teachers associations, Lions Club, Kiwanis, CASA, Community Emergency Response Team, Moose Lodge, Cowboy Capital Consultants, Masonic Lodge, Promise Keepers, Brother’s Keeper, Walk to Emmaus, Christian Motorcycle’s Association, Chadron State College Eagle Aire’s, Teammates, Chadron State College ping pong champ (which won him a year’s worth of free hamburgers), and the little old ladies technology education club. In his SPARE time, he enjoyed woodworking, going to funny car races, owning 60+ cars, motorcycle rides, a good shoot ‘em up movie, helping others with projects, flying kites, collecting eagles, shooting pool, and finding his golf ball. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judi; his 2 children: JJ Adkins of Ogallala and Amanda (Heath) Smallcomb of Kearney; grandchildren Cooper and Charleigh Smallcomb; sister Elaine (Darrell) Mason of Broken Arrow, OK, sisters-in-law Jan Lepard and Sandra Chamberlin and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Janet Grosshans, and brothers-in-law Larry Grosshans and Paul Lepard.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 1:00 pm from the United Methodist in Ogallala with the Rev. Curt Magelky officiating. Roger Adkins II (1945-2025)

Just a little about my life, then we’ll have fun. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;I was born on February 2nd, 1952 in Bloomfield, Nebraska, to Anna (Peterson) and Donald Chrans.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;I married Edward Arnie Arneson on July 1st, 1967. He was the love of my life. If you ever find the love of your life, hang on because it only happens once in a lifetime. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;I had BillieJo Arneson on July 24th, 1968. BillieJo has her own family now. Jordan, Breanna, Steven and Jake. Jordan has Ivery and John. Bre has Bennett and Brooks. I had Edward Joseph Arneson III on July 26th, 1971. He had Dirk Edward Arneson, Jeremiah Lynn, Brittiny Morgan (who passed away on October 24th, 1996), and McKenzie. Ed passed away on September 10th, 2000. I had Chris on August 13th, 1973. Chris had Christopher and Kelli. Kelli has Kinsley, Raelynn, and twin boys. Rick was born on January 23rd, 1979. Rick has Cabby, Draven, Talon, and of course my little man Victor. Eddie died on July 20th, 1980. Nicholas James was born June 16th, 1984. I married Elmer on December 7th, 1985. I had Lynnette Suzanne on April 2nd, 1986. She has Anakin. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Also, I have Hank and Sue Obermier. They have been like second parents to me and grandparents to my kids! They’ve been there through not only the good times, but even the bad times. They’re the most fantastic people I’ve ever known! I’ve been very blessed with a beautiful family that has grown throughout the years. I still have some family left. Thelma, Adi and Joy Arneson are some of the nieces I have left. My favorite is Dana Chrans and of course beautiful Jessica. I’m so glad they’re back in my life! I’m so grateful and proud of my four kids I have left. I can’t forget my son-in-law or I’ll never hear the end of it. Jaret, you are great, the only son-in-law that kept me in dish towels. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;So let’s all give them a big hand and get on with the party! Linda E. Witt  (1952-2025)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Donald "Don" James Keck, age 83, of North Platte, NE, peacefully passed away at home on January 28, 2025. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Don was born August 25, 1941, in Colby, KS, to James and Vera Keck.&nbsp; He graduated from Colby High School then attended Kansas State University where he received a degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting.&nbsp; After graduation, he moved to Denver, CO, where he began his career with the Big 8 accounting firm Arthur Young &amp; Company.&nbsp; In 1974, seeking a quieter life, Don relocated to North Platte, where he became a partner in the CPA firm Hansen, Fuenning, Raetz, Erb, Roggow &amp; Keck.&nbsp; He later founded his own CPA firm Keck &amp; Associates, LLC, and worked continuously up to the time of his passing.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Don was united in marriage to Darleen Davis in 1980, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and family. Donald "Don" James Keck  (1941-2025)

Donald Lee Haws, 91, life-long
resident of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on &nbsp;Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Linden
Court.&nbsp; Don was born on February 9, 1933,
the son of Ralph and Lyra Haws.&nbsp; He
graduated in 1951 from North Platte High School and went on to attend Trade
School in Milford, NE.&nbsp; He was employed
by the UP Railroad for 10 years before opening Haws Plywood Cash and Carry
Lumber yard.&nbsp; He expanded his business
starting the Home Improvement Center (HIC) and later purchased a Manufactured
Home Plant, building over 100 homes in a four-state area.&nbsp; 

Don spent the majority of his life
in service to others.&nbsp; He was an active
member of the Lutheran Church for 80 years, serving in many positions including
Chairman of the Church Council.&nbsp; He
served as a Lincoln County Commissioner for 16 years.&nbsp; He enjoyed mentoring a young man for many
years through the Community Connections program. &nbsp;&nbsp;Don served as President of the school board
for Hall School and worked on the alcohol and drug committee of Mid-Nebraska.&nbsp; He served on the board of Community Action
Partnership of Mid Nebraska located in Kearney, NE.&nbsp; He served 20 years in the Nebraska National
Guard, retiring as a Captain.

Those left to cherish Don’s memory
are his beloved wife of 70 years Betty Haws of North Platte; daughters Michele
Haws (Hector Zarate) of Parker, CO, Jan (Chris) Earley of Colorado Springs, CO,
Denise Haws of Eaton, CO,&nbsp; and son Jeff

resident of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on &nbsp;Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Linden
Court.&nbsp; Don was born on February 9, 1933,
the son of Ralph and Lyra Haws.&nbsp; He
graduated in 1951 from North Platte High School and went on to attend Trade
School in Milford, NE.&nbsp; He was employed
by the UP Railroad for 10 years before opening Haws Plywood Cash and Carry
Lumber yard.&nbsp; He expanded his business
starting the Home Improvement Center (HIC) and later purchased a Manufactured
Home Plant, building over 100 homes in a four-state area.&nbsp; Don spent the majority of his life
in service to others.&nbsp; He was an active
member of the Lutheran Church for 80 years, serving in many positions including
Chairman of the Church Council.&nbsp; He
served as a Lincoln County Commissioner for 16 years.&nbsp; He enjoyed mentoring a young man for many
years through the Community Connections program. &nbsp;&nbsp;Don served as President of the school board
for Hall School and worked on the alcohol and drug committee of Mid-Nebraska.&nbsp; He served on the board of Community Action
Partnership of Mid Nebraska located in Kearney, NE.&nbsp; He served 20 years in the Nebraska National
Guard, retiring as a Captain.Those left to cherish Don’s memory
are his beloved wife of 70 years Betty Haws of North Platte; daughters Michele
Haws (Hector Zarate) of Parker, CO, Jan (Chris) Earley of Colorado Springs, CO,
Denise Haws of Eaton, CO,&nbsp; and son Jeff

Donald Lee Haws (1933-2025)

Aaron Michael Tuenge, 36, of North Platte, NE passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.&nbsp;

All of Aaron’s family would like to say thank you for all
the condolences, cards, food, memorials, and his Celebration of Life. From

Aaron was born on March 3, 1988 in North Platte, NE to Michael Tuenge and Shirley (Mitchell) Tuenge. &nbsp;He grew up in Sutherland and North Platte. &nbsp;Aaron graduated with the North Platte High School class of 2006. &nbsp;He attended Southeast Community College Lincoln Campus. &nbsp;He then started his career in the HVAC business in Colorado, while there he held membership with “SMART” a sheet metal workers union. &nbsp;Aaron worked for several HVAC companies in Lincoln and North Platte and was proud of being a mentor to some of the new start-ups. &nbsp;

Most of all Aaron had a “heart of gold” was very compassionate, caring, beautiful soul whom he could relate to others. &nbsp;He also had that “kind of touch” with people and animals that was really liked and gave it back to many friends and family. &nbsp;Aaron will always be remembered by his beautiful smile and kindness shown to others.&nbsp;

Aaron was predeceased by his grandparents, Carl “Bud” and Mary Tuenge, Shirley Miller, and uncle, Carl Tuenge.

He is survived by his parents, Michael Tuenge, Shirley Tuenge; sister, Megan (John) Nielsen; nieces, Adeline and Norah; many other family members and great friends he had met along life’s journey. &nbsp;We lost a special one.&nbsp;

Aaron Michael Tuenge (1988-2024)

William “Bill” L. Suit, age 79, of Sidney Ne, passed away in his home on the morning of December 18, 2024. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on January 10, 2024 at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance, NE.

He then spent two years of service in the US Army before resuming his education, earning his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Nebraska, Omaha.

His law enforcement career included work with the Protective Ranger Service in Yellowstone and Death Valley National Parks, the Scottsbluff County Sheriff’s Office, and the Burlington Northern Railroad. In retirement he served on the Cheyenne Veterans Service Board.

William “Bill” L. Suit (1945 - 2025)

Barbara&nbsp;Frels peacefully passed away at home on December 18, 2024. She was 80 years old.

Barb was born October 12, 1944, to Arla and Bennie Qualls in Torrington, WY. Raised by Arla and stepfather Clive Miller, the family later moved to North Platte and Barb graduated from North Platte High School with the Class of 1963.

On June 16, 1963, Barb married Donald Frels at Maria Lutheran Church in Hershey and the young couple moved into a sod house on the family farm east of Hershey. In 1967, they built their present home on the same property where they raised their three children.

Along with being a wife and mother of three, Barb and Don were foster parents to many babies and high school girls. Professionally, Barb was a hairdresser and realtor. She graduated from North Platte Beauty Academy in 1973 and was a hairdresser for 11 years, first for others and then as the owner of Legato Beauty Shop in Hershey. She sold the shop in 1979 before receiving her Nebraska Real Estate License and was a realtor for over 35 years.

Barb had a positive outlook on life due to her strong faith. She was a member of Maria Lutheran Church and served as a former council member. She also belonged to the Lincoln County Board of Realtors, National Board of Realtors, Union Pacific Jr. Old Timers, the Velvet Spurs Riding Club, and was an Honorary Curtis Aggie.

Barb had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards with friends, and traveling. She especially loved their time in Arizona. In her retirement, she embroidered personalized tea towels to share with others. Barb rarely missed her grandchildren's activities and was often considered a second grandma to the grandchildren's friends. Barb not only loved her family, but she loved her friends like family. She and her high school group, "The Troop," loved traveling, socializing, and sharing the ups and downs of life together.

Barb is survived by her husband, Don, of 61 years; their children, Julie (Chuck) &nbsp;Kinnaman of Kearney, Jon (Shelley) Frels and James (Kerry) Frels of Hershey; grandchildren, Alex Kinnaman, Annie (Jack) Kinnaman, Addison Kinnaman, Ashley (Joe) Weigel, Lily Frels, Clay Frels, and Jenna Frels; great-grandson, Lyric; stepsister, Sandra Betz; sisters-in-law, Jann Qualls and Jackie Qualls; brother-in-law, Robert (Bette) Frels; special nieces and nephews, other family, and her many friends, including "The Troop."

She was preceded in death by her father, Bennie Qualls; mother and stepfather, Arla and Clive Miller; her brothers, Milburn and Gerald Qualls; and infant twin sister, Sandra Lou.

Carol L. Runge, age 68, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on December 9, 2024 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Carol was born on December 6, 1956 in Manassas, Virginia, to Wilbert and Irene (Wean) Davis.&nbsp; She graduated from McCook High School in 1975, subsequently earning her nursing degree in 1990.

On November 1, 1990, Carol married Robin E. Runge at Culbertson, Nebraska.&nbsp; The couple eventually made their home in North Platte, and they were blessed with three children:&nbsp; Eric, Jonathan, and Heath.

Carol was dedicated to her career in nursing, but her greatest love and dedication was reserved for her family.&nbsp; She also greatly loved her dogs and cats, which benefited from her patient and nurturing spirit.

In addition to her caring temperament, those familiar with Carol might affectionately recall her penchant for making fashionably late entrances and her appreciation for an ice-cold Mountain Dew.

Carol was preceded in death by her son, Heath Fletcher; and infant daughter; her daughter-in-law, DeAnna Runge (2022); parents, Wilbert and Irene Davis; her mother-in-law, Lila Runge; and her siblings, Francis (Hank) Lehl, Wilbert (Nancy) Davis, Jr., Shirley (Charles) Finch, and Janet Berube.

Survivors include her husband, Robin, of North Platte, Nebraska; two sons, Eric Runge (Amber) of Paxton, Nebraska and Jonathan Runge (Brenna) of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren Preston, Makayla, Matthew, Cheyenne, Travis, Chris, and Allen, her sister, Ann (Kenny) Minary; along with many other relatives and friends.

Carol L. Runge  (1956-2024)

Alice Cotton, 90, of rural Garden County passed away Friday evening, September 27, 2024 at the Garden County Health Services Hospital.

A gathering of family and friends and a memorial service will be at her home on the ranch on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. Come, bring your chair or horse and celebrate Alice’s life.

Alice I. Cotton was born on July 27, 1934 to Fred and Eva (Simpson) Wills of rural Alliance, Nebraska. She grew up being a tomboy and riding horses, always wanting to best her older brother, Bud. Alice also had two older sisters, Irene and Verna, and a younger brother, Dale. She attended rural District #22 school and graduated from Alliance High School.&nbsp;

In 1953, in a car with her baby daughter, she traveled by a lone tree on her way to a new home in the sandhills on the Sibbitt south ranch. She had no idea then that years later with her daughter (Penny) and son (Fritz), she would remarry and spend the rest of her life looking out her window at that same lone tree. In 1967, she married Sid Cotton and in 1970 was blessed with another son Tuff (Ira Sidney Jr.).

Alice loved horses, she could rope and drag calves to the branding fire or drive a team of horses if needed. She rode her big buckskin, Handy, running barrels and heeling steers. Many times she roped with Denny and she always said it was bad when he had to rope with his mother-in-law! She would tell you she had been kicked and bucked off a few times. One story was about the “Red” horse mom rode. On the way back home there at the pass he bucked her off hard. She lost hearing aids and false teeth. Red bucked her off many times with the same results, but she always got back on him. She even rode a few racehorses in her younger years, once run over by seven horses. She was known to ride a few steers early on and even got on a bull in Bridgeport one year. A real cowgirl and a hero to all who knew her but to some she was ‘Just Alice’!

Alice worked her big garden and yard; she would say she had her Daddy’s green thumb. She made the best dill pickles around and all her grandkids ate them up. Her jellies and chocolate cakes were pretty good too. As a grandma, she loved teaching her grandkids anything from baking angel food cakes from scratch, to working leather; letting them loose in her leathershop.&nbsp;

Mom was happiest at her home on the ranch. She would check the cows, herd the goats, tool a belt, mend a pair of reins or make a pair of chinks. She would try doing or making about anything. Mom enjoyed a cup of coffee from her kitchen table looking at the wildlife or looking out at that lone tree in the heart of her sandhills. Often times she would say that it was snowing so hard she couldn’t see past the lone tree or there are three deer down by the tree. A lot of card games were played at that table with kids or friends, she liked to win. The ranch was home, she didn’t need to go to town to shop, she could make do with about anything but….. if you are coming, could you bring a can of chew!

Cotton was born on July 27, 1934 to Fred and Eva (Simpson) Wills of rural Alliance, Nebraska. She grew up being a tomboy and riding horses, always wanting to best her older brother, Bud. Alice also had two older sisters, Irene and Verna, and a younger brother, Dale. She attended rural District #22 school and graduated from Alliance High School.&nbsp;In 1953, in a car with her baby daughter, she traveled by a lone tree on her way to a new home in the sandhills on the Sibbitt south ranch. She had no idea then that years later with her daughter (Penny) and son (Fritz), she would remarry and spend the rest of her life looking out her window at that same lone tree. In 1967, she married Sid Cotton and in 1970 was blessed with another son Tuff (Ira Sidney Jr.).Alice loved horses, she could rope and drag calves to the branding fire or drive a team of horses if needed. She rode her big buckskin, Handy, running barrels and heeling steers. Many times she roped with Denny and she always said it was bad when he had to rope with his mother-in-law! She would tell you she had been kicked and bucked off a few times. One story was about the “Red” horse mom rode. On the way back home there at the pass he bucked her off hard. She lost hearing aids and false teeth. Red bucked her off many times with the same results, but she always got back on him. She even rode a few racehorses in her younger years, once run over by seven horses. She was known to ride a few steers early on and even got on a bull in Bridgeport one year. A real cowgirl and a hero to all who knew her but to some she was ‘Just Alice’!Alice worked her big garden and yard; she would say she had her Daddy’s green thumb. She made the best dill pickles around and all her grandkids ate them up. Her jellies and chocolate cakes were pretty good too. As a grandma, she loved teaching her grandkids anything from baking angel food cakes from scratch, to working leather; letting them loose in her leathershop.&nbsp;Mom was happiest at her home on the ranch. She would check the cows, herd the goats, tool a belt, mend a pair of reins or make a pair of chinks. She would try doing or making about anything. Mom enjoyed a cup of coffee from her kitchen table looking at the wildlife or looking out at that lone tree in the heart of her sandhills. Often times she would say that it was snowing so hard she couldn’t see past the lone tree or there are three deer down by the tree. A lot of card games were played at that table with kids or friends, she liked to win. The ranch was home, she didn’t need to go to town to shop, she could make do with about anything but….. if you are coming, could you bring a can of chew!Again, like that lone tree she has weathered life’s storms. On September 27, 2024 after suffering from cancer and pain, she is free and going to her green, green grass of home.
