Stacy Ann (Bierma) Billings, age 58, of Stapleton, passed away July 22, 2025 at UNMC in Omaha. She was born September 10, 1966 to Dale and Marrietta (Page) Bierma in North Platte.

In infancy, Stacy was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Stacy attended and graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1984. After graduating, she moved to Kansas to be closer to her parents and she worked at McDonalds. In March of 1995 she met Troy Billings, the couple lived in North Platte. They moved to Stapleton several years later.

Stacy loved her dogs, miniature dachshunds and labs. She was always happy and loved to dance, be social, do yardwork and plant flowers. Stacy enjoyed attending her nieces' and nephews' activities.

Survivors include, husband, Troy of Stapleton; parents, Dale and Marrietta Bierma of Stapleton; siblings, Steve Bierma of North Platte, Bea (Scott) Gaites of Stapleton; nieces and nephews, Lindsay (Zach) Curran of Riverton, Wyoming, Chase (Jessica) Bierma of Romance, Arkansas, Tammie Gaites of Chicago, Illinois, Jon Gaites of North Platte; mother-in-law, Linda Billings of Downs, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Tony (Michelle) Billings of San Antonio, Texas, Terry Billings of Norton, Kansas, Tom (Nicki) Billings of Salina, Kansas, Jamie (Amanda) Billings of Portis, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Stacy Billings (1966-2025)

Michele Catlett, age 41, of Holdrege, Nebraska, departed to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at UNMC.

Michele was born August 7, 1983, in Denver, Colorado, to James and Garneta (Slagel) Cunningham.

Michele graduated from Benson High School in Omaha and was always proud of her Benson Bunny background. She went on to attend Iowa Western College where she loved being a part of show choir and piano. After graduating, Michele was married to the love of her life Joel Catlett in 2006. Michele and Joel were partners in every aspect of the word through ministry, work and life with their greatest accomplishments being their beautiful daughters, Leilani and Delaney. Michele worked towards and achieved her degree at the Supernatural School of Ministry and later on was able to draw from her piano and singing training from high school and college so she could lead praise and worship with Joel at church. A very important part of her life was participating in the Mrs. Nebraska program and then moving into directing the Miss Phelps County and Miss Swedish Days local pageants for the Miss Nebraska program. She was an inspiring mentor and friend to so many young ladies in the program and being so involved with others came full circle when she got to watch her daughter Leilani participate in the Miss Nebraska Teen program for the last two years. One of her favorite roles was being a dance mom to both of her girls through MomenTum Dance Studio. Traveling and watching them do what they love brought her joy. Michele was always striving to learn more and grew tremendously as a person as she immersed herself into various passions like photography, writing and editing, holy yoga and baking. Though she followed her passions, her first and foremost love was always her family. She always made sure to be there for her daughters and was an active participant in family events and business. Her kind smile and laugh often brought levity to even the darkest of situations.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck in 2022 when she was diagnosed with liver disease. Thus began her three-year fight for life, as her doctors at the Mayo Clinic did everything they could to help her. Though she fought valiantly, in the end, God called her home to rest peacefully with Him and look out for her family from heaven.

Michele’s kindness and encouragement will be missed most by her husband Joel; daughters Leilani and Delaney of Holdrege; mother Garneta (Roger) Bear of Omaha; brother Lee Cunningham of Omaha; parents-in-law Walt and Jolene Catlett of North Platte; sisters-in-law Cara (Eric) Putman of Lafayette, IN, and Janna (Chris) Swan of North Platte; brother-in-law Joshua (Sarah) Catlett of North Platte; and many nieces and nephews in addition to so many friends she has touched throughout her precious time here.

She is preceded in death by her father James and her sister-in-law Christine Cunningham.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 25, 2025, at 2:30 pm at Harvest Christian Fellowship with Pastor Jeremy Rinke officiating. Book signing will be Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 9-5 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with arrangements.

Michele Catlett (1983-2025)

Gary Wayne Eastwood, 71, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at his home.

Gary was born on August 15, 1953, in Arnold, Nebraska to Wylie and Joan (Pearson) Eastwood. He received his education from Callaway Public Schools, graduating from Callaway High School with the class of 1972.

Following High School, Gary worked with his father, Wylie. He enjoyed the work he did with his dad, focusing on construction and working as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He also dedicated many years working on the Reservation in South Dakota, before moving back to Arnold and working for Pete Hagler Trucking. Gary decided on a change of scenery and moved to California, where he worked for Blackmore Construction as an operator on an Ocean Scraper, which he was incredibly proud of. Missing his home, he returned to Callaway where he owned and operated a body shop and spent his last years trucking. Gary believed in working hard and playing hard.

On June 11, 2014, he was united in marriage to his partner in crime, Trudy Swedberg. They made their home outside of Callaway, where they enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Gary loved being on the lake even though he couldn’t swim. He enjoyed boating and eventually learned how to water ski. He wasn’t much of a cook but always tried his best and of course had the gift to gab. He was quite the storyteller and was always around giving a helping hand. He enjoyed being part of the Rodeo Club in Callaway.

Survivors include his loving wife, Trudy of Callaway; his mother, Joan Schuster of Arnold; his daughters, Katie (Travis) Gewecke of Elm Creek and Shawnie (Tucker) McClain of Briggsdale, Colorado; three grandchildren, Grady and Liberty Gewecke and McCrae McClain; siblings; Allan (Jan) Eastwood of Callaway, Patty (Bob) Olson of North Platte, Dean (Kathy) Eastwood of North Platte, Connie (Brad) Nansel of Arnold, and Bonnie Eastwood of Arnold; sister-in-law, Sheree (Dean) Slover of Brownwood, Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Donald Robert North SR, age 81, passed away on Monday Morning , July 14, 2025 at his home in Tooele, Utah. Don was born December 23, 1943 in Malad, Idaho to Amy Catherine and Arnold Ray North. He was raised in Stone, Idaho and graduated from Malad High School.

He attended Weber State Auto Mechanics in Ogden, Utah. He served in the Army in several different places around the world and was in the Vietnam War and Desert Storm War in 1991. He married Bonnie J. Chilton in Ogden, Utah November 13, 1964. Moved to Tooele, Utah in 1965. From this marriage they had three children: Donald Robert North Jr, Dennis Lee North and Deanna Lynn North. They were later divorced. When he came home from the service, he continued working for the Tooele Army Depot, for 29 years. He then opened a floral shop, drove school buses in Tooele, Utah. He also worked for Cargyle Salt Plant for 11 years. Don was a people person, talking to old friends, neighbors and strangers. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking and anything he could create with his hands. He had every tool you could imagine and had it all organized to his liking.

Don is survived by his brothers: Dean (Celine) North, Gordon (Carol) North: his wife of 12 years Rosalie North. His son Donald Robert North, Jr. of Lincoln, NE and daughter Deanna Lynn North of Stapleton, NE Step-children: Janica Williams, Shaun Nay, Andrea Leyba (Mike), Brittani Nay (Doug Block). Grandchildren: Josh Powell (Kayley) of North Platte NE, Andrew Powell (Lorry) of North Platte, NE, Matthew Powell of Stapleton, NE, Ashleigh Matson of North Platte, NE, Troyce North of Sidney, NE, Great Grandchildren Zaiden, Brekkyn, Tenzley, Avryanna, Madilyn, Corvin, Chevelle and Axxle.

Donald North, Sr (1943-2025)

John Lewis Jensen passed peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2025. He was 87 years old. He was born March 20, 1938, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Lewis Chrasten Jensen and Ruth (Hawkins) Jensen following a spring blizzard.

John Lewis Jensen has been a rancher and a cowboy all his life - all 87 years. John was raised in the Nebraska Sandhills of Arthur County and has lived there his entire life, except for college. John became the man of the house at only 5 years old, when his father was killed in a tragic accident involving a team of horses and a hay sled. Along with his mother Ruth and his older sister Kaye, he worked diligently to keep the ranch going. John assumed full duties of the ranch when he returned from college in 1960 and lived in the sod house his father built on the family homestead. The Jensen Ranch celebrated 100 years in 2013.

John attended a one-room schoolhouse just east of the ranch, riding his horse to school. He graduated from Arthur High School in 1956 and graduated from Chadron State College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science. He participated on the college rodeo team. After graduation he returned to the ranch and married Beverly Kicken on June 12, 1960. To that union three boys were born: John Chrasten (JC) in 1961, Deon Lewis in 1966 and Cameron Ray in 1976.

John and Beverly began breeding horses in 1963. That became John’s main hobby, raising and training outstanding registered Quarter Horses. Beverly passed in May 1979 after a battle with breast cancer.

John married Shari Pound in 1987. For 38 years, they have not only enjoyed ranch life at the Jensen Ranch, they enjoyed traveling for steer roping, fishing, Gideon conventions and sightseeing across the US. They especially enjoy watching their grandkids compete in horse events with horses that evolved from the Jensen Ranch breeding program.

John believed in being involved and active in his community. Locally, John served as a Deacon at the Arthur Baptist Church, served on the Arthur School Board and as an Arthur County Commissioner. He served on the Arthur County Fair Board, as a 4-H leader and a youth rifle instructor. John was a 32-year member of Gideon International and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He served on the Production Credit Association board of directors, served on the Twin Platte Natural Resources District board from 1984 to 1996 and in 2019, Jensen Ranch were awarded the Tree Planting Award. He was a past member of the Nebraska State Rodeo Association, a founding member and served as President of the Nebraska Steer Roping Association, he was a director of the Wyoming Steer Roping Association and a member of the Senior Steer Roping Association and is a PRCA Gold Card holder. John was inducted into the Nebraska Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2021.

John has seen much change come to Nebraska, the Sandhills, ranching and the cowboy way of life, but one thing never changed - for John,&nbsp; there wasn’t anything better than throwing your leg over a good horse, preferably one you raised and trained, and simply enjoying the day on horseback.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ruth Jensen, his first wife Beverly, his toddler son, Cameron, his only sister Kaye Frye, and his step-son, DJ Went.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Shari Pound Jensen, his two sons, JC (Jana) Jensen, Deon (Candy) Jensen, grandchildren Jada (Cody) Jensen Nye, John Cameron Jensen, Molly (Jared Gaines) Jensen, Tanna (Dustin) Jensen Nelson and Adam (Jessica Shafer) Quinn.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM at The Arthur Baptist Church in Arthur, Nebraska with Mathew Wright, DVM officiating.

To that union three boys were born: John Chrasten (JC) in 1961, Deon Lewis in 1966 and Cameron Ray in 1976.John and Beverly began breeding horses in 1963. That became John’s main hobby, raising and training outstanding registered Quarter Horses. Beverly passed in May 1979 after a battle with breast cancer.John married Shari Pound in 1987. For 38 years, they have not only enjoyed ranch life at the Jensen Ranch, they enjoyed traveling for steer roping, fishing, Gideon conventions and sightseeing across the US. They especially enjoy watching their grandkids compete in horse events with horses that evolved from the Jensen Ranch breeding program.John believed in being involved and active in his community. Locally, John served as a Deacon at the Arthur Baptist Church, served on the Arthur School Board and as an Arthur County Commissioner. He served on the Arthur County Fair Board, as a 4-H leader and a youth rifle instructor. John was a 32-year member of Gideon International and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He served on the Production Credit Association board of directors, served on the Twin Platte Natural Resources District board from 1984 to 1996 and in 2019, Jensen Ranch were awarded the Tree Planting Award. He was a past member of the Nebraska State Rodeo Association, a founding member and served as President of the Nebraska Steer Roping Association, he was a director of the Wyoming Steer Roping Association and a member of the Senior Steer Roping Association and is a PRCA Gold Card holder. John Jensen (1938-2025)

He has gone to the blind in the sky, where the skies are always open, and the hunting is forever good.

Larry Lee Golden passed away on July 5, 2025 at the age of 86.&nbsp; He graduated from Sidney High School. Larry was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather. An avid fisherman, a passionate duck hunter, and the master of decoy placement. He was a man who found joy and peace in the great outdoors.

Larry’s memory will live on through generations with “stories told in the duck blind of the greatest hunter there ever was" -well that’s what he would say, anyway, with a big smile on his face. He had an ability to tell the same story over and over again but made it better each time. You couldn’t help but laugh at his jokes because he would laugh at them first. That laugh will be missed by all who were blessed enough to hear it.

Larry was known for many things; his unwavering devotion to family and friends, and a duck call that could, on occasion, sound suspiciously like a goose in distress. He could spend hours in a blind talking with his hunting buddies exaggerating stories, usually involving fish that were” at least THIS big” and talk about weather conditions “so cold that his nose hair froze walking to school as a kid uphill both ways.” He had a unique way of decorating just about everything he could. His house, yard, mule, truck and even his pond where he put upside down mannequin legs in it with flippers. The picture actually made it into The National Geographic Magazine. He was so proud of that. He was the kind of hunter who measured success not just by the number of ducks on the truck, but by the quality of the company, the beauty of the sunrise, and the sheer joy of being in the great outdoors. He had a knack for finding the “honey hole”. Teaching numerous kids about hunter safety and giving them the experience of shooting their first bird. Larry’s dedication extended beyond the hunt itself.

He was an advocate for conservation understanding the importance of preserving the wetlands and wildlife habitats that were so dear to him. He was also the President of Ducks Unlimited for years. He shared his knowledge and passion with others, mentoring younger hunters and instilling in them a respect for guns, and the environment we used them in. He always said “This is not our land, we are just borrowing it.” He was a master of the river. Knowing the flight paths where the birds were going just by living by the river’s rules. His legacy will live on through all of us, not only through stories about him but in the sound of the wind moving through the trees and the beautiful songs of nature around us. He was truly an unforgettable man, and if we stop and take the time to look around, I’m sure he will remind us of his presence every day.

Larry Lee Golden (1939-2025)

Ricky Lynn Volker, 76, went to go race around the heavens on June 28, 2025. He was born October 14, 1948 to James and Esther Volker in Waterloo, Iowa.

After graduating high school, Rick was drafted into the United States Army and did a tour in Vietnam. Upon returning, he lived in several different towns in Iowa and Nebraska while working for the CNW Railroad. Later he moved to Arizona to work for Apache Railroad.

In 1990, Rick moved back to North Platte where he met and married his wife, Myra of 34 years on July 6, 1991. Rick loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing pool. His favorite teams were Denver Broncos, Iowa Hawkeyes (of course), and any team that played Nebraska. Nascar was his absolute favorite and he and Daniel would travel anywhere to watch a race.

Rick was a life member of the VFW and cooties. He was also a member of the Eagles and a little group called the Yatahay a very Special (group of veterans). Veterans were very important to Rick and he worked tirelessly to support them.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Verna, Jimmy, Sharon, and Karen.

Survivors include wife, Myra; sons, Daniel Saul, Joey Ziegler; daughters, Rashae Sheets (Rynae), Heather Lathrop; step-daughter Tina Lara; grandchildren, JJ, Jordy, Jaicee, Makayla, Fred, Ethan, Layla, Shadow, and his very special granddaughter “Natalie”; best buddy and companion, Gibbs; many nieces, nephews, as so many friends.

There will be a memorial service at the Eagles on July 18th at 3:00 P.M. with dinner and a “PARTY” to follow. Family requests casual dress representing his interests. Please don’t be afraid to tell your stories throughout the evening.

Doris Elaine (Kelley) Fox, age 95, of North Platte, NE, passed away on July 4, 2025 at North Platte Care Center.

Born on October 20, 1929, she was the daughter of Glenn A. and Helen (Montgomery) Kelley near Seymour, IN at the home of her grandmother.

She grew up near Seymour, IN, and graduated in 1947 from Shields High School in Seymour. Doris married Hubert M Fox on October 11, 1952 at Reddington Christian Church in Reddington, IN.

Doris worked for Cummins in Columbus, IN until just before Brenda was born. In 1966, they moved to Woodridge, IL, and helped build a new church in Naperville, IL. The family moved to North Platte in 1971. The couple helped build Valley Christian Church’s current building.&nbsp;In 1980, the couple moved to Lincoln, NE where they lived until Hubert’s death in 2014. Then Doris returned to North Platte to be near her children.&nbsp; She was a devoted mother and wife. Doris was very social and loved belonging to various groups such as Bible studies, being a campfire leader, an active bowler in several leagues, and she enjoyed researching genealogy and photography.

Those left to cherish her memory are her 4 children: Brenda Robinson, Mike (Peggy) Fox, Christine (Robert) Nelson and Candice (Tracy) Fox-Martinez all of North Platte, NE; 14 grandchildren: Jennifer, Tyler (Emily), Bradley and Colby Robinson; Travis (Jennifer) and Matthew (Sara) Fox; Benjamin (Patty Jo) Pease, Kelley Enriquez, Brendan (Mallory Liewer) Nelson, Jesse Nelson, Danielle McNulty; Jacqueline (Chanse) Tabke, Vanessa Martinez, and Talia Martinez; 19 great-grandchildren Roark, Ellis, and Meier Robinson; Abbey, Grace, Madison, Bethany and Troy Fox; Felicity (Jeron Seimer) Edwards, Marcus Pease, Elena Enriquez, Isabella and Phoenix White; Jada, Aurora, Althea, and River Nelson; Skye and Hazel Tabke; 1 great-great grandchild Junie Seimer; a brother-in-law Jim Glasson of Seymour, IN; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Doris Elaine Fox (1929-2025)

Carole A. Vencill, 81, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away June 30, 2025 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born September 8, 1943 to Adolph and Eleanor (Lalley) Wonka, in North Platte.

In her own words Carole wrote the following:

Hi, this is me Carole Ann Wonka-Vencill.

After finding out at the age of 80 my blood and heart are having difficulties, I have decided to create my own obituary since who knows more about me than me. I plan on joining dad and mom, Adolph and Eleanor Wonka, along with my son Lee Vencill and great-grandson in heaven since everyone knows that death is the next great adventure. I will be leaving behind my husband, Larry of over 61 years; my 4 great kids, Lori and Tom Bell, Larry Jr and Tina Vencill, Lyndy and Dave Fleecs, Lisa and Bill Rosenof; my grandkids and great-grandkids, and my sister Janice Jones to enjoy life to it’s fullest until we meet again.

I was born September 8, 1943 to wonderful parents and had a great childhood here in North Platte. I have lived and worked in North Platte at many jobs including Davis Drugs, Tim Britt’s Grocery, Ellett’s Tasty Treat, A&amp;W Restaurant, Fairmont’s Creamery, (which only a few will remember), surgery ward clerk, personal banker at Lincoln Federal and finally and still manager of Red Cedars.

The biggest and best part of my life has been my family and friends. What a roller coaster of a ride it has been. I can’t thank my family and friends enough for all of their support and love. But there comes a time when we all will have to say “goodbye for now.”

Carole A Vencill (1943-2025)

Carol Ann Bailey, age 71, passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones after a hard-fought battle with cancer, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 in Alliance, Nebraska.

She was born on June 26, 1953 in Crawford, Nebraska to Harry and Karlene (Lux) Golden.&nbsp; On April 9, 1977 she was united in marriage to Wayne T. Bailey in North Platte, Nebraska.

Her survivors include her loving husband, Wayne, of 48 years; her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Hannah Bailey of Alliance, NE; her grandchildren, Violet Nelson, Jackson Bailey, Brooke Bailey, and Nora Bailey; her brother, Jerry (Candy) Golden of Crawford, NE, and their daughter, Stephanie Broderick of Chadron, NE and her husband and children.&nbsp; Carol is also survived by her sister-in-law, Beverly Bailey, of Gering, NE; her brother-in-law, Danny (Terry) Bailey of Scottsbluff, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews, along with great-nieces and great-nephews that Carol enjoyed following their many activities and athletics.

Carol was a devoted wife to Wayne and mother to her son, Chris.&nbsp; She spent her free time supporting her son and his children, attending numerous activities and athletic events and scrapbooking all of their accomplishments.

Carol was a dedicated Special Education teacher for 32 years.&nbsp; Carol valued and enjoyed the relationships she made during her career in education.&nbsp; Carol's quiet strength and welcoming personality was admired by many.

Memorial services will be on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. MST at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance, NE.&nbsp; Interment will in the West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, NE will be at a later date.

Memorials may be given to Jane's Closet, Infusion Center of Box Butte General Hospital or Festival of Hope.

Carol Ann Bailey  (1953-2025)

Judith “Judy” R. Neal, age 77, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away June 23, 2025 at home.

Judy was born June 23, 1948, in North Platte to Warren and Beula (Dike) Gerken.

Judy grew up on her family farm near Wellfleet, NE, and went to school in Curtis and North Platte. There she developed a love of horses and could often be found riding whenever she had free time. After graduating high school, she continued her education in cosmetology school in North Platte where she achieved her beautician license. She worked as a beautician for many years before moving on to working at the Cabela’s Call Center for several years and then retiring.

During her working life, Judy met the love of her life, Roger Harold Neal. They were wed on March 17, 1978. With the addition of her husband and step-son to her son and daughter, her happy family was complete. Judy often spent her free time crocheting and sewing many gifts for family and friends. She and Roger also raised cocker spaniels for over 10 years. After retiring, Judy enjoyed going to meals at the Moose Lodge to see friends. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities and supporting them whenever possible.

Those left to cherish Judy’s memory are her daughter Tina (Lynn) Pyzer of North Platte; son Tim (Amy) Ham of Hershey; step-son Pat Neal of Texas; grandchildren McKenzie Pyzer (Rance Waigand) of Curtis and Tel (Danneeka) Pyzer of North Platte; great-grandchildren Hayden, Hudson, Hadlynn, Heaton, and Huckley of Curtis; and many more family and friends whose lives she touched.

Judith Neal (1948-2025)

With his family by his side, Niels K. Nielsen passed
away on June 21, 2025, at the age of 87.&nbsp; Niels was born March 21st,
1938, in Karby Mors, Denmark, to his parents Pete and Kate (Madsen) Nielsen.

In 1937, Pete and Kate Nielsen, along with their first-born
son, Albert, traveled back to Denmark to visit family. At that time, WWII broke
out and they weren’t able to return to the United States. During their time in
Denmark, Niels was born. A few years later, his sister Anna was born. In the
midst of those 13 years of Niels’ life in Denmark, he talked fondly of the time
he shared with his grandpa. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren
reliving the special times spent on the boat, fishing, and returning home by
sea. It wasn’t until 1951 that the Nielsen family returned to the United
States. Pete, Kate, and their 3 children (2 born in Denmark) spent 2 weeks on a
ship traveling to New York. From there, they took the bus back home to
Nebraska.

Niels enlisted in the Army at the age of 18. He
completed Boot Camp, before getting honorably discharged. Niels returned home
and moved with his parents to Worland, WY. At this time, Niels met Marno G
McKissor. From the time of their marriage on October 9, 1964 until 1976, four
children were born. Niels later married Margaret Kay Kott-Witz on October 3,
1997. It was at this time 2 more children were brought into the family.

Niels was a plumber by trade. Several years were spent
plumbing side by side with his brother Albert, in Cody, WY. That is what made
him love his job. In 1975, Niels and his family moved to North Platte, NE, where he continued building his career. Niels proceeded to work toward his
master plumbing license, and soon became a member of the North Platte Plumbers
board. Shortly after, Niels started his own business, and passed down the “tools
of the trade” to his 2 sons and grandsons.

Niels enjoyed a variety of things such as dancing,
watching his boys play softball across the street. It was a family tradition to
play pitch, and he never missed a chance to play the slots, the Nebraska
lottery, and was a huge fan of scratch tickets. He spent endless hours
enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren sharing his journey
through life.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Kay Nielsen of
North Platte, NE; Sons, Tim (LeeAnn) Nielsen, Thad (Stephanie Dilley) all of
North Platte, NE; Daughters; Tereasa (Roger) Matticks of Waverly, NE, Tami

blessed with many grandkids that were his pride and joy; Amanda (Justin)

Niels K. Nielsen (1938-2025)

The family of Willis Donald Roethemeyer, 93, is comforted knowing their beloved father went to be with our Lord and Savior and our beloved mother on June 21, 2025. Willis was born on December 1, 1931 to Gustave and Ida (Fleer) Roethemeyer on the family farm near Wellfleet, Nebraska. He was the youngest of five children.

Willis attended country schools in the area near the farm including Mount Pleasant and Echo until being home schooled by his sister Eileen in Third Grade. Beginning the following school year, he went to North Platte, Nebraska and attended Our Redeemer Lutheran School, staying with his eldest sister Paula during the week and returning to the farm on weekends. This arrangement continued until Willis graduated from North Platte High School in 1949. Willis then took a correspondence course on electricity and completed it in 1949 for an Electrical Certificate.

Willis met Greta Gardner on a blind date set up by mutual friends on Christmas Eve 1950. Willis and Greta were married on April 23, 1952. Willis was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1954; the Army provided a 12-week course where Willis obtained his electrical license. Willis was then stationed to an engineering detachment and served at Edwards Air Force Base in Edwards, California until his discharge in 1956.

While stationed in California they were blessed with the first of their five daughters. Upon Willis’ discharge the family of three returned home to the family farm. They worked on the farm together as true partners to provide for their growing family. Both worked the fields, one on the tractor while the other got some sleep, so they could work around the clock allowing them to spend family time together camping and fishing. Willis would patiently bait the hooks and teach the girls to cast. As they got older, he used that same patience to teach them to drive and help around the farm.

Willis and his wife served as Lincoln County 4-H leaders for over a decade. Willis was a hands-on teacher and helped with whatever topic a 4-H member was interested in learning. He was very active in the community. Willis was responsible for the formation of the Maywood/Wellfleet Fire District and served as the Board Chairman for 25 years. Willis also served on the Maywood Co-op Board for 20+ years, the Nebraska Co-op Council for 14+ years, the McCook Public Power board for 18+ years, Lincoln County Historical Museum Chairman for 10 years. Willis served two terms as Lincoln County Commissioner from 2006-2014. During his term as commissioner, Willis was instrumental in the building of the new jail facilities. As a commissioner, Willis was active on several boards including the West Central Health Board and RC&amp;D.

Willis was respected by his family, friends, and neighbors for his serious and wise advice, generosity, and calming demeaner. He is proceeded in death by his beloved wife Greta; his parents; brothers Oscar and Melvin; sisters Paula Windhorst and Eileen Klingsporn; and son-in-law Verne Leyendecker.

He is survived by daughters Debra Roethemeyer, Susan (Richard) Meranda, Angela (Steve) Chittick, Kamala (Aaron) Conley, and Melissa (James) Friend, twelve grandchildren, and seventeen grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, North Platte, Nebraska. Burial will follow at the Curtis Cemetery, Curtis, Nebraska. Rev. David Ramsey will officiate. Visitation will be from noon-7:00, family present from 5-7, Monday, June 30 at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home who is assisting the family.

Willis Donald Roethemeyer (1931-2025)

Bryan Dean Lee, of rural North Platte, passed away unexpectedly at his home June 13, 2025. Bryan was born June 9, 1959 to John and Erna Rae (Erlewine) Lee in Grant, Nebraska. His childhood was spent on the family farm south of Madrid, NE near the Perkins County-Chase County line, AKA “Leeville”. Bryan attended Madrid-Wheatland school, graduating with the class of 1977. In high school Bryan excelled in woodworking and building construction, which turned into his first career path. Bryan also participated in wrestling, track and was a member of the 1976 state championship football team.

Bryan’s love of agriculture and animal husbandry were apparent very early on in his life. Bryan joined his siblings, numerous cousins and extended family participating and excelling in 4-H, showing hogs and cattle with a particular passion for horses. A passion he shared with his Grandpa Rue.

High school sweethearts, Bryan and Chris were married on November 25, 1977. They moved to North Platte in January of 1978 so Chris could attend Mid-Plains Community College and Bryan began his 42-year career with the Union Pacific Railroad as a Conductor/Brakeman. Bryan and Chris eventually purchased farmland, and moved to rural North Platte, where they raised their three children. The young family’s shared love of horses led them to purchase a mare and a gelding at a sale in North Platte in 1985, and evolved into the establishment of Lee’s Quarter Horses.

After son Matt’s untimely death in 2002, Bryan poured his heart and soul into his horses. About this time in the horse industry, Ranch Horse Versatility was quickly rising in popularity. Showcasing his horses’ natural ability for roping, cutting, cow work, as well as arena performance, was a perfect fit for Bryan and his first stallion, Docs Croton Lobo. Bryan and “Doc” won their show first championship in 2006. Chris then joined Bryan in showing and the two traveled throughout the mid-west the next 19 years, participating in stock horse and ranch horse versatility shows. Most notable highlights of Bryan’s show career were showing “Doc’s” son “Lee’s Doc O Sunrise” (aka Dude) to the AQHA Amateur VRH Reserve World Championship in 2014. In 2021 Chris and Bryan teamed up to show “Diamonds at Sunrise” to win the AQHA Year End High Point Award in the Cowboy division. Last year, despite his dad’s passing, Bryan showed the third son of Doc, “Snip O Sunrise Lobo” (aka KJ) to win the AQHA VRH Cowboy World Championship. He was the only exhibitor who qualified for the AQHA VRH World Show every year since its inception. Bryan also won numerous local and regional titles with his Ranching Heritage bred horses. Bryan was a fierce competitor in the show pen and many of his competitors quickly became his best friends.

Bryan was meticulous with the training of his horses. They did not leave the place until they were “Lee broke”. His breeding and training programs allowed his customers who purchased his horses to also reach the highest levels of competition on “Lee bred” horses.

Bryan coached youth wrestling for many years and was an avid supporter of the North Platte St Pat’s Irish football and wrestling programs. Whatever the sport or endeavor, Bryan had a love for helping other people, especially youth, which has led to many generational friendships. Like him or not, you always knew where you stood with Bryan.

Despite Bryan’s deep passion for horses and sports, his love for his family always took center stage. From wrestling with his brothers and tearing up his mom’s kitchen, to wrestling with Matt and breaking stuff in Chris’ kitchen, to teasing and telling stories about monsters to nieces, nephews, grandkids, and anyone who would listen, Bryan’s love for family was unmatched. Teasing was his love language. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

Proceeding him in death were his parents, John and Erna Rae (Erlewine) Lee, brother Doug Lee and son Matt Lee.

Bryan is survived by his wife of 47 years, Chris of rural North Platte; daughters Lannae (Dan) Phelps of North Platte, and Mareesa (Alex) Hasenauer of Wellfleet; grandchildren, Matthew (Bryannah Hyndal), Olivia and Oliver Phelps, and Aubree and Carlee Hasenauer; great granddaughter Scarlett Phelps; sister, Teresa (Rick) Nowak of Bennington, NE; sister- in- law, Penny Lee of Grant, NE; and brother Jay (Dana) Lee of Madrid, NE; and numerous other family members and many friends.

 </figure>Bryan Dean Lee, of rural North Platte, passed away unexpectedly at his home June 13, 2025. Bryan was born June 9, 1959 to John and Erna Rae (Erlewine) Lee in Grant, Nebraska. His childhood was spent on the family farm south of Madrid, NE near the Perkins County-Chase County line, AKA “Leeville”. Bryan attended Madrid-Wheatland school, graduating with the class of 1977. In high school Bryan excelled in woodworking and building construction, which turned into his first career path. Bryan also participated in wrestling, track and was a member of the 1976 state championship football team.Bryan’s love of agriculture and animal husbandry were apparent very early on in his life. Bryan joined his siblings, numerous cousins and extended family participating and excelling in 4-H, showing hogs and cattle with a particular passion for horses. A passion he shared with his Grandpa Rue.High school sweethearts, Bryan and Chris were married on November 25, 1977. They moved to North Platte in January of 1978 so Chris could attend Mid-Plains Community College and Bryan began his 42-year career with the Union Pacific Railroad as a Conductor/Brakeman. Bryan and Chris eventually purchased farmland, and moved to rural North Platte, where they raised their three children. The young family’s shared love of horses led them to purchase a mare and a gelding at a sale in North Platte in 1985, and evolved into the establishment of Lee’s Quarter Horses.After son Matt’s untimely death in 2002, Bryan poured his heart and soul into his horses. About this time in the horse industry, Ranch Horse Versatility was quickly rising in popularity. Showcasing his horses’ natural ability for roping, cutting, cow work, as well as arena performance, was a perfect fit for Bryan and his first stallion, Docs Croton Lobo. Bryan and “Doc” won their show first championship in 2006. Chris then joined Bryan in showing and the two traveled throughout the mid-west the next 19 years, participating in stock horse and ranch horse versatility shows. Most notable highlights of Bryan’s show career were showing “Doc’s” son “Lee’s Doc O Sunrise” (aka Dude) to the AQHA Amateur VRH Reserve World Championship in 2014. In 2021 Chris and Bryan teamed up to show “Diamonds at Sunrise” to win the AQHA Year End High Point Award in the Cowboy division. Bryan Lee (1959-2025)

Dennis Bruce Walther, age 73, of Curtis, Nebraska passed away on June 11, 2025, at Great Plains Health in North Platte. On May 28, 1952, Dennis was born to Willard “Cotton” and Lila “Toots” (Metcalf) Walther in Eustis, Nebraska.

Dennis was raised in the rural town of Curtis, graduating from Medicine Valley High School in 1970. Immediately following graduation, Dennis enlisted into the United States Army, serving four years and in the Vietnam War. While home from the military for a short time, on August 14, 1971, Dennis married Carol Ann Halley in Eustis. The couple welcomed three children into the world- Steven, Clint, and Julie. After being honorably discharged from the military, Dennis began his lifelong career of truck driving- working for Allen Mitchek Trucking and Richard Broils Trucking before driving as a self-employed trucker. Dennis returned to Nebraska in 1986, where he resided for the remainder of his life. He retired in 2017 while employed by Frontier County.

Dennis was a light-hearted man who never took anything too seriously. He loved his truck driving career and riding his Harley-Davidson. Dennis was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to anyone who came into his life. He was known to throw out a few jokes every now and then and could spot a pretty lady from miles away. He had a love for KFC, where they knew him by name.

Dennis is survived by his children, Steven (Darla) Walther of Stockville, Clint (Kerri) Walther of North Platte, Julie (Brian) Brownell of Burwell; grandchildren, Jordan (Molly) Walther of Omaha, Jace (Hailey Fleming) Walther, Cameron (Arlana) Walther, Cole (Shelby) Walther, Caitlyn (Udell Hughes) Walther, all of North Platte, Akilah (Justin) Ellingson of Omaha, Kaden (Brooklyn Douglas) Ross of Gretna, Cory Brownell of Norfolk, and Kelli Brownell of Burwell; great grandchildren, Clay &amp; Clint Walther, Udell Thomas, Udell Griffin, and Udell Bridger Hughes; Jensen Ellingson; siblings, Elwyn Walther of Iliff, CO, Sheryl Fisher of Irrigon, OR, Debra Clinesmith of Curtis, Hugh (Kathy) Walther of Springdale, AR; several other family members and friends.

Wayne D. Dundee, 77, of Ogallala passed away June 4, 2025, at The Center at CenterPlace in Greeley, CO.

Wayne was born March 24, 1948, in Freeport, IL to Elwood and Charlotte (Smith) Dundee. Wayne attended various schools in the Illinois and Wisconsin area, graduating from Clinton High School in 1966.

Wayne started work with Arnold Engineering in 1966 where he met Pamela Sue Daum and they married on October 29, 1966. Wayne and Pam lived in Tomah, Wisconsin when they had their only child, Michelle Marie (Dundee)Wojczynski 1/14/1968. Wayne worked several jobs as a farm hand and milk truck driver before returning to Arnold Engineering in Marengo, IL while living in Belvidere, IL. Wayne also began to pursue his love of writing during this time, publishing several short stories and starting his own mystery/detective publication, Hardboiled Magazine in 1985. Wayne won a SHAMUS award for Best 1st PI Short Story in 1986 and another for Best PI Short Story in 1987. Wayne published his first book, The Burning Season, which was nominated for Best 1st PI Novel in 1989.

Wayne and his family moved to Ogallala in 1999 when Wayne transferred to Arnold Magnetics in Ogallala to serve as manager, where he retired in 2009. Wayne continued to write books, transitioning from the detective genre to westerns. Wayne has written 43 books, his last book, Diablo Gold, was published in 2025.

Wayne enjoyed the landscape and history of the area, often going for drives to explore the area. Wayne enjoyed telling stories, written and spoken, with one of his favorites talking about the time he wrestled a bear…the bear won. Wayne was a man with a heart of gold, that would do anything for anyone, especially his family. Wayne was a rock for the family and will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, June 20, 2025, at 2:00 pm in the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, NE with Rev. Mark Baldwin officiating of the Paxton United Methodist Church of Paxton, Ne.

On June 6, 2025, Rebecca “Becky” Dawn (Welch) Vandewalker passed away at Centennial Park Retirement Village. Becky was born the oldest of seven children to Donald and Cassie (Bryant) Welch on February 3, 1954 in Sutherland, NE.

After attending the District 8 country school southwest of Paxton, Becky went on to attend and graduate from Ogallala High School with the class of 1974. Upon finishing high school, Becky began her lifelong career in customer service, doing what she was passionate about – helping others. She worked at various businesses throughout Keith County and Lincoln County, Nebraska. For a short time, she also worked at the Capitol in Lincoln, NE.

Becky held an adoration for anything involving horses and held a special place in her heart for her Sun Conure parrot (Sunny), a loyal companion for many years. She was a lover of old country western music and enjoyed crafting, which filled much of her extra time, especially painting ceramics. She was also known to play a round or two of keno as well as pull some tabs back on a few pickle cards every now and again. One of her most favorite things to do was play cards, whether it was Liverpool rummy with family or just a good old game of Solitaire. Becky possessed an infectious laugh filled with joy as well as a love that knew no bounds. She held an intense love for her family, especially her many nieces and nephews. Spoiling the residents and staff at the nursing home came naturally to her; she simply wanted to see those around her smile. She was a fiercely loyal friend and longed for that same love and friendship to be returned to her.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Dorothy Stoner was born on July 11, 1942 to Henry and Martha (Thompson) Bauer in North Platte, Nebraska, where she grew up.&nbsp; She passed away at Great Plains Health on May 30, 2025 at the age of 82. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;By the time Dorothy finished 6th grade, the family moved to Billings, Montana and later Portland, Oregon where she finished her schooling, graduating high school in 1960.&nbsp; Following her graduation, the family returned to North Platte and she went to work at St. Mary's Hospital, then Memorial Hospital. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;On August 25, 1962, Dorothy married Larry Stoner at the North Platte Berean Church.&nbsp; After living in North Platte for a number of hears, they moved to Hershey, Nebraska and attended the&nbsp; Hershey Baptist Church.&nbsp; After Larry died, Dorothy returned to North Platte in 1993. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Dorothy was a member of New Direction Baptist Church at Crosby, Texas.&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time with family, scrapbooking, painting, and taking pictures. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Along with her husband, Larry, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Martha Bauer; her brother, Robert Bauer; and her daughter, Pam Campbell Skinner. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She is survived by her children, Larry (Diahann) Stoner and Debra (Warren) Smith of North Platte, NE, Peggy (Robert) DeCent of Sutherland, NE, Linda (Michael) Jeffers of Sacramento, CA, and Deanna (Raymond) Just of Crosby, TX; her sisters, Lorretta Kisslering of Sidney, NE and Mary Pace of Omaha, NE; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren including Leandro Lee Stoner; and many other family members. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. CST on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Oden Colonial Chapel in North Platte, NE.&nbsp; Dorothy will be buried with her husband at Floral Lawns Memorials Gardens in North Platte at a later date.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The guest book may be signed online at <a href="http://odeanchapel.com">odeanchapel.com</a> or at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore in North Platte, which is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp; Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

Dorothy Stoner  (1942-2025)

&nbsp; Robert L. "Bob" Petersen, 89, formerly of North Platte, NE, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones in Kansas City, MO. Bob was born June 30, 1935, in Norcross, MN, to Lloyd R. and Mildred M.(Winders) Petersen. He grew up in Russell, MN, graduating from Russell High School in 1953.&nbsp; Bob attended South Dakota State University for two years before joining the U.S. Air Force, progressing to the rank of captain.&nbsp; Following active duty, he enrolled at North Dakota State University, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering while flying for the North Dakota Air National Guard. On July 27, 1957, Bob married Arleen J. Larson in Tyler, MN. Together, they raised three boys: Todd, Jon, and Marc.&nbsp; In 1963, the family moved to North Platte.&nbsp; Bob worked at Nebraska Dept. of Roads for two years, followed by a 30-plus year career with Nebraska Public Power District, retiring in 1996. Bob was very active in his church and community.&nbsp; He was a 60-year member of First Lutheran Church in North Platte, with many of those years as a member of the church council. Bob enjoyed being involved in his community, he was a member of the Elks Club, Platte Valley Lodge #32AF &amp; AM and North Platte Shrine Club, various barbershop quartet groups, and the North Platte Community Playhouse.&nbsp; After retirement from NPPD, he served on the board of directors of the Central Nebraska Public Power District from 1997 until 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arleen; son, Jon; his parents; and great-grandson, Nolan Petersen. Bob is survived by his children, Todd (Diana) of Kansas City, and Marc of North Platte; four grandchildren, Sarah (Sean) Hull of Southington, CT, Carey (Ka'Ron) Johnson of Chicago, IL, Matthew (Angela) Petersen of St. John, KS, and Alanna (Matt Hardiek) Petersen, of Auburn, NE; brother, Richard (Ilene Wilson) Petersen of Westminster, CO; great-grandchildren, Alexander Hull, Abbigail Hull, Katelynn Hull, Willa Petersen, and Crosby Petersen; and his nieces and nephews.

Bob's steady presence will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Memorials are suggested to the American Red Cross in Bob's memory.

Services will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11:00a.m., Monday, June 2. Burial with military honors is 2 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Robert L. "Bob" Petersen (1935-2025)

Jay Harold Bossert, age 70, of North Platte, died May 23, 2025 at the Birch in Sutherland. He was born on June 15, 1954 in Lemmon, SD to Christ and Helen (Brenner) Bossert.

Jay graduated from Isabell High School and then went on to attend Rapid City Community College where he earned a business degree. Shortly after, Jay married his first wife Brenda Krumm and to this union, 3 children were born: Michael, Joseph, and Brandi.

Jay had begun a career of over the road trucking and traveling across the country. During his travels he met Connie Savage and would often make time to see her on his routes through Western Nebraska. On September 7, 1985 Jay and Connie were united in marriage at the Methodist church in Chadron. To this union 4 children were born: Tammy, Traci, Teri and Travis. After building a family, Jay and Connie started ranching in 1985. They made their home in Lisco for many years where he had worked for Batt Land and Cattle. Jay was also a volunteer fire fighter, ambulance driver, and served as a member of the Sherriff's Posse. Jay was proud of his German heritage and had a passion for the German food he grew up on.

He loved the cowboy life and his passion was ranching. He loved cattle, horses, pickup trucks and his family. Jay enjoyed old westerns and was a huge fan of John Wayne. It became a family tradition to attend the local rodeos in Bridgeport every year. Jay wore his cowboy boots until he could no longer put them on. Jay was a true cowboy at heart; a loving husband, father, and friend.

Survivors include his wife Connie of Sutherland; 6 children: Joseph Bossert of Worthington, MN, Brandi (Bo) Jackson of Arizona, Tammy (Trevor) Miller of Bayard, NE, Traci (Dave Kennedy) Bossert of Kearney, Teri (Brad) Williams of North Platte, and Travis Bossert of Paxton; grandchildren, Linkin Bossert, Logan Bossert, Reign Miller, Skylar Miller, Bryce Bossert, Whitney Bossert, Halsey Bossert, Rylie Williams, and Jaxon Williams; a great grandchild, Maevyn Harris; 2 brothers, Don Bossert of Aberdean, SD, and Jim Bossert of Colome, SD; a daughter-in-law, Carrie Bossert of Worthington, MN; and numerous other family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; a sister, Judy; and a brother Harvey.
