Nina Maxine Hallett was born September 28, 1922, to Myrtle Helen Hallett (Finch) and Charles Martin Hallett on a farm one mile east of Enders, Nebraska. The family moved to a farm two miles south of Enders in 1929. Nina attended grade school at Enders School. She graduated from Chase County High School in 1940. After graduation, Nina taught her first year of teaching in Arthur County, Nebraska. Then she returned to Chase County and taught Prairie Gem School in 1942-43. She taught District 2 -2 years, Dist. 8- one year, Dist. 1- 2 years, Dist. 4- 2 years, Dist. 1- (again) 3 years, Lamar School – 2 years, District 66 – 12 years. Then she taught at Chase County High School 17 ½ years – and retired in the spring of 1985 – having taught a total of 43 ½ consecutive years.

               Nina received the Degree of Associate in Arts from McCook College in June, 1950. She received the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Education from Chadron State College on July 25, 1962. She received the Degree of Master of Science Education from Chadron State College on August 10, 1967.

               Nina thoroughly enjoyed her years of teaching and relished many memories of former students and incidents, some were invigorating, others were somber.  After retirement Nina enjoyed her home life, gardening, lawn work, flower beds, house remodeling, and various other activities.

 Nina’s hobbies were piano and organ playing. She loved to do needle work, especially needlepoint and finished and framed many beautiful pieces of her work, using them for house décor.

               Nina found Jesus as her Savior in the year 1940. She lived a life that exemplified the change Jesus wrought in her life. She taught Sunday School classes for many years, a task she thoroughly enjoyed.

               Nina was devoted to her family whom she loved dearly. She cared for her mother until her mother’s death. She cared for her sister, Marjorie, and her brother, Charles, until the time of their deaths.

               She was preceded in death by her father, mother, 3 half brothers Roy, Welman, and Paul Ouderkirk, her sister Marjorie Hallett, her brother Charles Hallett, and her youngest sister Delores Grosvenor (94 years old) of Caldwell, Idaho. 

               She is survived by her nephew Bob Stumbaugh, niece Eileen Schoonover and husband Mick, all of Caldwell, Idaho; Loretta Moyer and husband Lance of Ketchican, Alaska, and several great nieces and nephews.

 A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. (MT) Friday, May 10, 2024 with visitation one hour prior to services at God’s Missionary Church in Wauneta, NE with pastor Gary Hunt officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Imperial, NE.
