Mary Ann Horst (1935-2023)

     Mary Ann Horst, age 88, of Gurley, Nebraska, passed away in Kimball, Nebraska on Sunday, September 24, 2023.  Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date.

     She is survived by three sons, Warren & Shelley of Gurley, NE, Mike of St. Paul, MN, and Maury and wife, Diane, of Potter, NE; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Rufenacht of Lodgepole, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
     Mary Ann was born in Lodgepole, NE on January 1, 1935 to Walter and Mattie Rufenacht and had five brothers: Lester, Carlton, Pete, Bob, and Butch.  She graduated high school from Lodgepole and attended college to become a country school teacher.  On August 14, 1055, she married Virgil H. Horst and lived on the farm at Gurley her whole life until moving to Kimball Manor in 2018.
     She was a talented seamstress, artist, pianist, gardener, homemaker, and loved her family and faith.  She was a Nebraska State Wheat Queen in 1949 and won several talent contests.
     Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers; and one grandchild.
