Cherry County officials announced an arrest has been made in connection with a fatal hit-and-run involving a cyclist

Valentine, Neb. - The Cherry County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) announced on Monday that an arrest has been made in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on Saturday involving a cyclist near Valentine. 

The cyclist was participating in the Tour De Nebraska event. The incident occurred on Saturday morning on Highway 2 outside of Valentine. Officials in Grant County were made aware of the situation and were alerted the suspect was traveling in the area east on Highway 2 near Hyannis.

According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, the suspect was stopped by officials at mile marker 153 near Greathouse Road and was arrested. The suspect was later released to Cherry County Deputies on an arrest warrant. No more information has been provided.  

CCSO would like to thank Grant, Hooker, and Arthur County Sheriffs' Offices and the Nebraska State Patrol for their assistance in the investigation, according to officials.
