North Platte, Ne - The January Teacher of The Month from Eagle Media is North Platte Community College Softball Coach Janelle Higgins. The Teacher of the Month is sponsored by Prairie Friends & Flowers in North Platte. According to Higgins' nomination, "Coach Higgins is the most selfless person I know! She serves on countless boards and committees for the community. She is a huge advocate for children of all ages. She is hardworking and will go to the end of the earth to help anyone that needs it. She is committed to her team and her program and instills values in her players and students. She never asks for anything so we would love to give her this honor."
Coach Janelle Higgins will begin her 13th season at North Platte Community College in 2022-23. Higgins came to North Platte in 2010 as the second head coach in program history.
Under her leadership, the Knights won Region IX Division II championships in 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2021 – the same years that she was named Region IX Division II Coach of the Year.
Higgins was also designated as the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2017. She was Co-Coach of the Year in 2016 and is currently an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion region ambassador for the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Higgins’ teams won NCCAC championships in 2012 and 2017, were co-conference champions in 2016 and NCCAC runners-up in 2013 and 2015.
