April 20, 2026 (North Platte, Neb.) — Weather permitting, work will begin April 27 on U.S. Highway 26 (US-26), from reference post 118.79 to reference post 128.73, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Western Engineering Company, Inc., of Harlan, Iowa, is the contractor for this project. Work includes bridge repair at reference post 119.26 and reference post 119.54, milling and asphalt resurfacing, culvert work, and electrical items. Traffic will be maintained with a pilot car and flaggers for asphalt paving operations, and traffic signals for the bridge work. A 12-foot width restriction will be in effect. Anticipated completion is Oct. 2026.
The purpose of this project is to preserve the transportation assets, improve the reliability of the transportation system and perpetuate the mobility of the traveling public.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
