SUTHERLAND, Neb. — A 75-year-old rural Hershey man died Monday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 25 on the west edge of Sutherland.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:05 p.m. on Aug. 3.
Investigators said James W. Ward was driving an eastbound GMC Sonoma when the pickup crossed the center line in the intersection and collided with a westbound semi-tractor trailer driven by Taylor Manley of Beaver City.
Ward was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff's office said Manley suffered minor scrapes and scratches in the crash.
Following the collision, the semi overturned and landed on the back of another vehicle parked at a nearby property adjacent to the crash scene. No additional injuries were reported.
The Nebraska State Patrol assisted with post-crash inspections and crash reconstruction.
In a statement, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office extended its condolences to Ward's family during their time of loss.
