NORTH PLATTE - Eagle Media on behalf of the Schmidt Foundation, donated $5,000 to the Lincoln County CASA last week.
The Lincoln County CASA has been serving the county for 11 years and has helped 150 children. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a non-profit, volunteer organization that advocates for foster kids during their court proceedings. "We can advocate for things that a child really needs when in care," said Deirdre Nichelson.
The non-profit organization is already limited in the funds they receive. With the donation from the Schmidt Foundation, the money will be used to help train more volunteers. "It enables us to be able to train more volunteers, to recruit more volunteers, each one of the people that come into our organization and want to advocate for children have to be vetted and they have to be properly trained to do so," said Nichelson. "The more people that we can have that will go through that process to be advocates, then the more children in Lincoln County we can help."
