21-year-old Imperial man sentenced for the 2022 shooting that killed a 19-year-old

Imperial, Neb. - An Imperial man who shot and killed a 19-year-old in 2022 was sentenced on Tuesday.  

21-year-old Tristan Ferguson was sentenced to 8 to 14 years in prison for manslaughter and attempted possession of a firearm while committing a felony.   

On November 25, 2022, the Imperial Police Department and Chase County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting in Imperial that occurred at a residence near east 12 street. When law enforcement arrived on scene, 19-year-old Jesse Krausnick was found with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Chase County Community Hospital where he passed away. 

Alcohol was involved when Ferguson, who was 19, pointed the shotgun at Krausnick and pulled the trigger, striking the 19-year-old. Ferguson thought the gun was unloaded. 

Krausnick was a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
