Hawks steal two from Knights in Sunday doubleheader

Norfolk, Neb. – The North Platte Community College softball team fell in its doubleheader against Northeast Community College on Sunday.

Northeast 12 North Platte 2

Northeast tallied five runs in the bottom half of the first inning, before adding seven more runs across the next three innings to build a 12-0 lead.

Victoria Arellano reached on an error to open the fifth inning, before a single by Byanka Tyan advanced Arellano to second. Northeast struck out the next two batters before Samantha Seger and Alieze Moreno drew walks to plate the first run of the afternoon. A single by Sarah Perez plated Tyan as the Knights tacked on their final run.

Sheena Smith took the loss for the Knights in the circle. Smith pitched 2.2 innings but was charged with 11 runs on seven hits. Arellano allowed one run in 1.1 innings in relief.  

Northeast 12 North Platte 0

Northeast once again built a sizable lead in the bottom of the first inning. Hawks would go on to tally two more runs in the second and seven runs in the third inning to earn the run-rule victory.

Arellano gave up five runs on five hits and struck out one batter in her two innings of work.

North Platte (0-6) will travel to Beatrice next Saturday for a Region IX doubleheader with the Bobcats of Southeast Community College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
