Ann Nelson, age 85 of Broken Bow, NE passed away on April 1, 2024, at the Brookestone View in Broken Bow.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Family for future designation. A visitation will take place on Friday, April 5th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Virginia Ann Nelson was born on August 3, 1938, at Hazard, Nebraska to Oscar and Virginia (Miller) Hunter.   She grew up in the Sandhills of Nebraska and graduated from Thedford High School.  After high school, Ann taught in a moveable one-room schoolhouse for 3 years.  Ann was married to Kenneth “Red” Nelson on August 9, 1956.  

Ann worked as the manager of Stockman’s Café in Broken Bow and later as a waitress at the Tumbleweed Café in Broken Bow.  She spent over 40 years serving the customers of Broken Bow.  Ann was also well-known in the community for her 52 years of selling Avon.  Ann enjoyed bowling with the local women’s bowling leagues.  Ann was a member of the Broken Bow Doe’s and Rebekah’s.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband “Red”, and a daughter Kennetha.

Ann is survived by daughter Kenda (Mike) Ekdahl of North Platte, son Troy (Betsy) Nelson of Falls City, grandchildren Mick Ekdahl, Luke Ekdahl, Mackensie Nelson, Riley Nelson, and Connor Nelson, and unofficial adopted daughter Carmen (Anson) Bumgarner.
