North Platte, Neb - Interstate 80 near North Platte opened back up just before 9pm Friday evening after it had been closed for nearly 7 hours after a fatal multi-vehicle accident 4 miles east of North Platter earlier in the day due to winter driving conditions. Nebraska State Patrol's Cody Thomas confirmed to the POST that 2 people were killed in the accident. Names have not been released and others were transported to Great Plains Health in North Platte according to scanner traffic.
Multiple accidents have been reported throughout the afternoon around the area. A snow emergency was issued for North Platte for Friday evening into Saturday so city crews can clean up the snow covered streets.
