Mervin Donald Philpot, age 70, of North Platte, NE passed away on May 23, 2024. He was born on March 25, 1945 in Cozad, NE to Donald and Adda (Ambler) Philpot.
Mervin grew up in Minnesota with his grandfather and helped him on the farm starting at a very young age. He married Darlene Shower and to this union, two daughters were born, Michelle and Teresa. Mervin did construction work, was a metal worker and a truck driver for Nebraska Salt & Grain. He worked transportation for a private company transporting inmates and people with medical conditions.
Mervin loved to weld and woodwork. He was open minded and loved to talk, he was very opinionated. Mervin had a big heart and would do anything for anybody, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. If he could help a person out, he would. He loved to fish and ride motorcycles. He had a passion for putting puzzles together when the weather would not permit him to be outside. He loved watching westerns, eating cherry tomatoes, and ranching. Mervin enjoyed a PBR once in a while and was definitely a family man.
Survivors include daughters, Michelle (Henry) Kivett of Hershey, NE and Teresa Mains of Texas; grandchildren Austin Mains of Texas, Gage Mains of Texas, Anessa (Cody) Newton of North Platte, NE, and Kaitlyn Kivett (Beau Craig) of Carbondale, IL; great grandchildren Zoey and Addison; sisters Patti Smith and Geri Ambler; and numerous other family members and many friends.
Mervin was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Adda; a brother Bill Ambler; and former wife and best friend, Darlene Philpot.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at North Platte Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Tripett officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from noon to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2024 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte, which is in charge of arrangements.
