Eugene Alan Waterman, age 71, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at his home in Ogallala.
Eugene was born July 15, 1952, in Grant, NE to Kenneth and Esteline (Lovenburg) Waterman.
Eugene grew up in Southwest Nebraska and then moved to Fort Morgan, CO in 1969. After graduating from Fort Morgan High School in 1971, he married Dixcie Slade of Bird City, Kansas. Eugene and Dixcie continued living in Fort Morgan where they were blessed with three children; Shana, David, and Michelle.
Eugene moved back to Grant in 1997 where he worked for CO-OP’s in the area driving trucks. He later worked for Flemming Farms driving harvest trucks. In 2000 he met and married Jeannette Kohler.
After retirement, Eugene became an avid pool player achieving a plaque honoring 500 games played in his leagues. Eugene and his team also made it to the finals tournaments in Vegas two different times. Eugene was well known in the area as the “Melon Man” due to his hobby of driving across the plains to the Melon Capitol, bringing back juicy melons for all to enjoy.
Eugene is survived by Shana (Bryan) Martin of Weldona, CO; David (Carole) Waterman of Ogallala; Michelle Waterman (Clifford Joyce) of Jacksonville, FL; Sisters Donna Carey of Brule, Darlene Waterman of Grant, Dianna (Nick) McCleary of Venango, Brother Jim (Amy) Waterman of Windsor, CO; six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette in 2020; his parents; one brother, Donald Waterman; and one brother-in-law, Dean Carey.
A luncheon for friends and family will be held at the Grant Senior Center, Grant, NE on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. The family encourages friends and family to share any memories on www.drauckerfh.com.
