North Platte, NE - Several organizations are working together to help sponsor a free conference to provide information about disability services and how to access those services.  The Disabilities Resources Conference will be held April 19-20, 2024 at North Platte Bethel Church.  Conference presenters will be staff members with PTI (Parent, Training and Information), an organization based in Omaha. The conference is for parents, caregivers, educators, and any agency workers who want to learn more about serving those with disabilities.

The schedule each day will have educational sessions in the morning followed by afternoon appointments for persons in need of assistance in completing paperwork. Topics to be presented include:  Transition Plans, Applying for Developmental Disability Services, SSI:  Social Security Income for a Dependent Adult, and Decision Making Options.  The PTI staff will dedicate the afternoon to working one on one with those who need assistance in completing paperwork.

Since July of 2023, 12 organizations have had representatives involved in Families 1st Partnership hosted discussions to bring more education and support for individuals with disabilities—both adults and families whose children are disabled.  Many of these organization representatives along with family members are aware of the challenges in accessing programs that provide continued education for those with a disability.  The timing of enrollment to such programs is crucial to ensure support for the individual and the family.  This is also an area where families may not have all the information that they need.

Conference sponsors include:  North Platte Bethel Church, Thrivent Financial, Hand of Heartland, Families 1st Partnership, and PTI.

Registration information will be coming out in early March.
