SIDNEY, NE — Sidney Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for its new Cancer Care Center, marking an important step forward in expanding access to comprehensive cancer care in the Nebraska Panhandle.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., in the grass in front of the east parking lot. Community members and members of the media are invited to attend.
The new Cancer Care Center will be directly connected to the hospital’s Radiology Department, bringing providers, care teams, screenings, and treatments together in one convenient location.
The advanced facility is being designed to provide comprehensive cancer care services, including innovative therapies, advanced technology, and compassionate support closer to home. The center will feature a skilled team of oncology professionals and a healing environment focused on comfort and personalized care for patients and their families.
As part of the project, PET/CT services will be available five days a week once the center is completed. PET/CT technology plays an important role in cancer care by helping providers monitor treatment effectiveness, track disease progression, and detect potential recurrence.
The project will also bring in-house radiation therapy services to Sidney Regional Medical Center for the first time. Radiation therapy uses a linear accelerator to precisely deliver high-energy radiation to cancer cells, helping prevent them from growing or spreading. It can be used in the treatment of many types of cancer, including breast, lung, skin, prostate, and brain cancers, and may be incorporated into a patient's treatment plan alongside other therapies such as surgery or chemotherapy.

The Cancer Care Center is currently planned to open by November 2028.
