North Platte, Neb. - The North Platte Police Department has implemented a body-worn camera (BWC) program.  In July 2024, the North Platte Police Department applied for, and later received, grant funding for the development of a BWC program.  Agencies with body-worn camera programs report improved officer safety, increased evidence quality, a reduction in civilian complaints and reduced agency liability.

Body-worn cameras promote transparency by providing an objective record of police-civilian interactions.  A BWC policy was adopted, and officers have been trained in the use of the GETAC body-worn cameras.  A grant award of $60,590 was received from the Bureau of Justice Assistance to assist with the implementation of the program.
