Lareen M. Jacobson, 93, of North Platte, NE passed away on November 8th at the Mount Carmel – Keens Memorial Home in Kearney, NE.
Lareen was born to Henry L. and Mary (Moore) Wiest on September 4, 1930, in Hazard, NE.
Lareen graduated from Kearney High School in 1947 and worked for several years as a secretary with Consumers Public Power. She married Wes Jacobson on July 25, 1953, in Kearney, NE at St. James Catholic Church and together they were blessed with and raised four sons: Jon, Tom, Dan, and Doug. Lareen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker for most of her life. She and Wes started their married life together in Kearney but then lived in North Platte for approximately five years until Wes was transferred to McCook in the early 1960’s. They also lived in Ogallala for six years before moving back to North Platte in 1972. Lareen was a devout Catholic and member of Holy Spirit Catholic parish in North Platte and she enjoyed canning hundreds of pints of vegetables from their garden every year. Lareen also enjoyed baking, sewing, painting ceramics, and traveling in their RV, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Lareen’s memory are her four sons: Jon Jacobson of North Platte, Tom (his wife Ann) Jacobson of North Platte, Dan (his wife Stephanie) Jacobson of Overland Park, KS, and Doug (his wife Joan) Jacobson of Kuna, ID; 11 grandchildren: Patrick and his wife, Caitlyn, Rebecca and her husband, Andy Miller, Austin and his wife, Rachel, Brian, Courtney, Ashley, Danielle and her husband Alex Verdoni, Erin and her husband Noah Stolz, Danielle and her husband Blake Seever, Karli and her husband Matt Trudeau, Lindsey and Molly; great-grandchildren: Gracie, Jacob, and Owen Miller (Rebecca), Cecelia, Azelia, and Gianna Jacobson (Austin) and Jesse Seever (Danielle); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wes “Jake”, sister, Delores Peckman and brothers, Milford, Harland, and the Rev. Robert Wiest.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on November 13th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Vidya Sagar Arikotla as celebrant. Burial will follow on a later date at the Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on November 12th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Rosary prayers will follow at 7:00 PM. Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
