Sharon LaRae Neal, 79, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at The Birch at Sutherland.

Sharon was born on October 12, 1944 in Kearney, NE the daughter of Belva and Ilah Marie (Maurer) Thomas.  She graduated from Gibbon High School and attended business school in Omaha for training as a secretary.  On February 4, 1968 she was married to Larry Dean Neal and together they had 2 sons.

Sharon was an active housewife and helped with the P.T.A. while her sons were in school.  She loved watching her sons and grandchildren participate in activities, especially rodeo.  Sharon was a passionate volunteer for Alzheimer’s support and volunteered her time in taking care of Alzheimer’s patients.  She served on the Lincoln County elections board and attended the Methodist Church.  She was an avid photographer and loved gardening.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Belva and Marie, and siblings, Jack Thomas, Boneta Schurer, Maynard Thomas, Garry Thomas, and Marland Thomas.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 55 years, Larry; sons, Scott (Robyn) Neal of North Platte, and Tim (Barbara) Neal of North Platte; grandchildren, Brent, Ridge, Jake, and Jayden Neal; sister, Cheryl (Terry) Wortman of OK; sister in laws, Beverly, Donna Belle, and Diana Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2023 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mark Baldwin officiating.  Burial at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell will be held at a later date.  The memorial book will be available to sign on Thursday, March 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
