Sandra Lee (Stark) Nye, age 81, passed away on April 8, 2024, at her home at Lake McConaughy. She was born August 27, 1942, in Kearney, Nebraska to Glenn and Maryferne Stark. Sandy graduated from Kearney High School in 1960. She received a bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Sandy taught elementary vocal music and junior high instrument music courses in the Ogallala public schools. She was an influential teacher and mentor to many community members throughout her career in education.
Sandy was married to Larry Robb Nye of Ogallala, Nebraska on March 29, 1969. They welcomed a son Shane Patrick Nye in October of 1972.
Her love of music was always present. She sang in the Methodist Church choirs and community choirs of both Chadron and Ogallala. Highlights include directing the Ogallala summer band, performing in weddings, and participating with many other vocal groups from around the area.
Sandy was a proud Scouting Den Mother with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorer Post. She enjoyed cooking and led a group of AAUW ladies in Gourmet cooking.
Larry and Sandy Nye celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this March.
Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Glen and Maryferne Stark and brother Glen Eric Stark.
Sandy is survived by husband Larry Nye, son Shane Nye and his wife Amanda, grandchildren Kinley and Colton Elliott and Sheyden Nye, sister Deborah Day, and family.
Memorial Services for Sandy Nye will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church at 421 North Spruce, Ogallala, Nebraska.
