– Twelve different players registered a kill and eight-ranked Nebraska Kearney hit .456 to blast Dominican (-7, -8, -12) Thursday night in Arcata, Calif.
This match was part of the "Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic" hosted by Cal Poly Humboldt. The Lopers (5-1) battle Northwest Nazarene (Idaho) and Rollins (Florida) on Friday.
UNK hadn't hit higher than .261 on the young season but went off tonight to the tune of 40 kills in 79 swings with only four errors. Meanwhile, the Penguins (1-3) from San Rafael mustered just 27 total points on 12 kills, three aces and a block.
A balanced Loper attack was led by All-American outside Carly Purdy (seven kills, .600 pct.), middle Sydney Davis (six kills, .400 pct.) and outside Grace Schmedding (six kills, .600 pct.). Next, lefty DS Julia Davenport (three) and libero Ellie Spang (two) combined for five aces with setter Callie Squiers at seven digs and 12 assists. Finally, Davis had three blocks to push her season total to 24.
