Memorial Services will be on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Oconto Community Center in Oconto, NE with Military Honors. Burial will be in the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA at a later date. Memorials are suggested to The Family for future designation. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. Chuck Bowen, 89, of Oconto NE, passed away on the 19th of February at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Charles Edward Bowen was born May 15, 1934, in Centerville, Massachusetts. He was the youngest of five children born to Norman and Josephine Bowen.
He was a committed Christian.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. He remained in the service until his retirement in 1973, remaining in the Reserves until 1981.
After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for General Electric for many years. He was a founding member of the McChord Air Museum Foundation. He oversaw airplane restoration operations for the museum and was Crew Chief for the restoration of the C-124 “Old Shakey.”
He was married to Charlene Campbell from 1952 until her death in 2003. In 2013, he married Doris Myers, and they traveled extensively before returning to her home state of Nebraska.
Memorials should go to the McChord Air Museum Foundation, or to Oconto Rescue Unit.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Charlene, his parents, his four brothers and one sister, and daughter-in-law Sue.
He is survived by his wife Doris, his oldest son Ken and wife Patti, of Miami, Florida, his son Gary, of Spanaway, Washington, his daughter Sally and husband Dave Bricker, of Huntsville, Alabama, son Richard of Seattle, Washington, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
