Today we come together to grieve, to mourn, and to celebrate the life of Susan K. Jones. Susan was born Susan Todd on the 30th of April 1956 to Floyd Walter and Irene (Kragt) Todd in Holland, Michigan. She was the youngest of three sisters, with Bev and Nancy being the older ones.
Susan and her family stayed in Holland throughout her school years. She attended Holland Christian High School where she became prolific at Dutch dancing, known as Klompen. She loved Tulip Time and walking the Mackinac Bridge in the summers.
Susan moved to Alaska in the late '80s. There she did traffic for a local radio station and ended up meeting her husband, James L. Jones. They were married on February 3rd, 1989 in Soldotna, Alaska. Two years to the day, they welcomed a beautiful baby girl named Allison. Susan gladly stepped into the role of stay-at-home mom.
Susan loved being a mom, she would read to Allison in the hospital constantly, trying to distract her from her numerous medical complications and trying to make her smile. Where Allison went, Susan went.
In 1994, Susan and her family moved to Rodgers, Arkansas where they lived close to family. Then in the beginning of 1998, the family moved to Ogallala. Nebraska. At first, Susan was able to keep being a stay-at-home mom. When things got tight, she started working at Sixth Street grocery store, where she made many friends that would remember her for years to come. From there she became the traffic manager at KOGA radio station in 2001 and worked there for several years before retiring.
Susan was known for being an extremely caring and selfless woman. She was extremely generous and kind-hearted. She wanted the best for people and tried to see the good in everyone, and always had a smile. She was also known for her morbid sense of humor. She loved her family, loved the water, green tree frogs, hedgehogs, and foxes, but most of all, she loved her daughter Allison, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She had a profound faith in the Lord and believed that through Him, all things were possible.
She was the absolute best mom a daughter could ask for, constantly by Allison’s side through every medical procedure and surgery, guiding her through life’s big questions, and encouraging her faith in Jesus.
She is survived by her daughter Allison; sisters Bev Johnson (Bob), Nancy Schaafsma (Bob); and numerous nieces and nephews.
