Mabel Lorine "Savage" Brown 93 of Ogallala passed away on Sunday,   January 21, 2024 at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala. 

Mabel was born on April 26, 1930 on her grandparents farm north of Stratton, Nebraska.  She lived in Stratton with her father, mother, older brother and two sisters until she was 2 years old.  Her family moved to Holyoke, Colorado where they lived for six years. At age 13, her family moved to Chappell, Nebraska, where they moved into a house just north of the high school. She graduated from the Chappell High School in 1948. She worked as a waitress in every café in Chappell at one point or another.  She worked as a Teller and Insurance Secretary at the Duel County State Bank.  While working as a waitress in one of the cafés, she met a man named Alan Brown, an auto parts salesman for Humphreys Auto Parts in Ogallala in Oct 1957. A year later at a drive in café in Chappell, Alan said "We need to put a ring on that finger," and on Oct 26, 1958, he did just that. They were married at the Methodist Church in Chappell.  After a two week honeymoon in San Francisco, California, they returned to Ogallala where Mabel started working as a teller at the First National Bank.  She worked there for three months when she found out she was pregnant with their first child.  On Aug. 8th, 1959, Lorraine Kay (Lori) was born into the family, 11 1/2 months later Lori passed away from Spina Bifida.  On July 26 of 1961 she gave birth to their second child, Andrew William.  22 months, later on June 1st, 1963, she gave birth to twins. A girl, Diann Carol  and  a boy, Charles Ray.  Mabel was Baptized in 1958 and was a faithful member of the Ogallala Church of Christ, a church that her husband Alan helped start in 1959, until her death. She taught bible school for many years helping bring many young souls to Christ. She taught Vacation Bible school for many years during the summer, and assisted Alan with their home Bible study program either in their home or at the homes of the people they were studying with. 

Survivors include her son Charles "Chuck" Brown of Ogallala; daughter-in-law Anjanette "Jan" (Fortner) Brown of Sedgwick, Colorado; son-in-law, Brett Richardson of San Ramon, California; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alan Brown; two daughters Lorrain  Brown and  Dyan Richardson; son,  Andrew "Andy Bill" Brown; her parents; William Jasper and Hazel Hannah Katherine (Weaver) Savage;  father and mother-in-law; Andrew Jackson and Gertrude Orvetta (Witt) Brown;  two brothers Leo and James Savage,  three sisters Laura Riley, Marge Christensen and Lucille Romine.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 28th, 2024 at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel, Ogallala, Nebraska from 2:00 P.M.- 5:00 P.M.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, January 29th, 2024 at the Church of Christ in Ogallala, Nebraska at 10:00 a.m. with  George Robison of The Church Of Christ, of Haslet, Texas officiating.

A Memorial has been established to the Church of Christ

Internment will take place at 2:00 pm at the  Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta, Nebraska.
