LISTEN TO LAKE MAC REPORT
OGALLALA, Neb. (June 13, 2025) — Anglers are seeing solid success on Lake McConaughy this week, with a strong night bite for walleye reported near the face of the dam, according to the latest outdoor report from Nebraska Game and Parks.
Walleye are also being caught in 8 to 20 feet of water near Lemoyne, where a good white bass bite is underway. During the day, smallmouth bass of notable size are being reeled in along the rocky points on the lake’s south side and near the dam.
Surface water temperatures near the dam are holding around 66 degrees Fahrenheit.
Boat ramps currently in service include:
- Diver’s Bay
- Martin Bay (low water ramp)
- Lemoyne
- Both ramps at Lake Ogallala
Lake McConaughy is currently at an elevation of 3,234.8 feet, with a storage level of 74,600 acre-feet — about 55.9% of capacity. Inflows this week are around 850 cubic feet per second, while outflows are at approximately 2,400 cfs. Updated water level information is available at cnppid.com/lake-river-data.
With Father’s Day weekend approaching, both Lake McConaughy and Lake Ogallala remain popular destinations, but campsites — including basic, electric, and primitive sites — are still available. Reservations can be made online at outdoornebraska.gov by clicking the "Reservations" tab, or by calling the Lake McConaughy Visitor Center at 308-284-8800.
Reservations for beach camping may be made up to 30 days in advance, while modern campgrounds with electricity can be reserved up to 180 days in advance.
Fire Safety Reminder: Campfires are currently allowed at both Lake McConaughy and Lake Ogallala, but visitors are urged to follow fire safety protocols. Fires must be contained within designated fire rings no larger than 3 feet, and should never be left unattended. Always fully extinguish fires before leaving. Fireworks remain strictly prohibited at both State Recreation Areas and throughout Keith County.
