Maintenance work will begin on US-34, southwest of Benkelman

(McCook, Neb.) — Weather permitting, a milling and chip seal project will begin on or about August 6 on US-34, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Chip seal is an application of an asphalt binder to a roadway surface followed by an aggregate. Cold milling is a process of removing deteriorated asphalt in preparation of placing a chip seal to improve the roadway surface and drivability.

State maintenance forces will be performing a milling and chip seal project from reference post 17.26 to reference post 28.55, starting at the N-61 and 34 Junction, southwest of Benkelman and working west 11.29 miles. Traffic will be maintained with pilot car and flaggers. Anticipated completion is 12 days.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
