Marian F. Patterson, age 88, of Valentine, Nebraska, passed away, at Ogallala Community Hospital in Ogallala, Nebraska on Monday, February. 5, 2024.
Marian was born November 24, 1935, in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Hiddie and Edna (Feis) Kuhlman. She grew up on the family farm three miles outside of Gothenburg.
Marian attended school in Gothenburg and after graduation, she worked as a school secretary until 1956. She was united in marriage to Ronald H. Patterson, Jr. in Gothenburg on June 2, 1956. The couple moved to California so Ronald could finish his basic training as a United States Marine. In 1959 they moved to Benkelman, Nebraska where her husband taught business courses at the high school. In 1963 Ronald re-enlisted in the Marine Corps as a captain and the family of four moved to California. From 1963 until 1976, the family of four lived in Stafford, VA, Virginia Beach, VA, Hampton, VA and in Jacksonville, NC, and Camp LeJeune, NC. Also twice during that time, they lived in Gothenburg when Ronald was deployed overseas for a 1-year tour in 1964 and also in 1969.
As a major, Ronald retired from the military after 20 years of service in 1976 and they moved back to Gothenburg, Nebraska. Marian worked at the Gothenburg State Bank and the Gothenburg Chamber of Commerce until she retired in 1999.
Marian loved to spend time with her family, paint, play bridge, and travel. Marian is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Kim) Channer of Arthur, Nebraska; son, Jeffrey Patterson of Valentine, Nebraska; grandchildren, Corey Patterson of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Kelsey (Walter) Carr of Whitman, Nebraska, and Kasey Channer of Kearney, Nebraska; great-grandson Cayston Patterson of Rock Springs, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and son-in-law, Kim Channer.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at the Arthur Baptist Church with Rev. Blake Wilkes officiating.
A Private Family interment will take place in Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE.
A memorial has been established for The Arthur Ladies Auxiliary in Arthur, NE, or The Presbyterian Church in Valentine, NE.
