A North Platte man was arrested early April 22 following a high-speed traffic stop north of the city.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy monitoring traffic just before 2 a.m. on North Highway 83, approximately seven miles north of North Platte, observed a northbound vehicle traveling at what appeared to be an extremely high rate of speed. A radar check confirmed the vehicle was traveling 126 miles per hour in a 65 mile-per-hour zone.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was identified as 21-year-old Bruk Abebe of North Platte.
During the investigation, authorities reported that Abebe was arrested on charges of willful reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and procuring alcohol to minors after a passenger was found to have consumed alcohol.
Abebe was transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center, where he completed chemical testing and was lodged.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
