Carl Leroy Rundback, 92, of Tryon, passed away May 9, 2024 at Great Plains Health. He was born October 23, 1931 to Herbert and Daisy (Trembly) Rundback in Sutherland.
Carl grew up near Ringgold, the school he attended was moved to Ringgold, where his sons went to school, and then was eventually moved to Carl’s place. He moved south of Ringgold and worked on the family ranch. Carl bought the home place in 1951. He enlisted in the United States Army from 1949-1950. Carl married Barbara Mae Ragland on July 14, 1951 in Tryon. Carl bought his first airplane in the late 1940’s and continued flying until he was in his 80’s. He enjoyed team pinning and roping and loved good cattle horses and neighbors. He continued to ranch until the end.
Carl was county commissioner from 2004-2020 and a field rep and board member for ASCS. He was a member of VFW, past president of the Ringgold School board and past president of West Central Health Department. In 1970, he started his life with Jo Gaites, they purchased the Wagon Wheel Bar in Stapleton and she helped raise Carl’s four sons.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth (Jo Ann) Rundback of Stapleton, Wayne (Dona) Rundback of North Platte, Bill Rundback of North Platte, Scott (Bea) Gaites of Stapleton, Frank (Krissy) Rundback of Tryon; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Moore of Valentine, Kelly (Justin) Loeffer of Cheyenne, Bryce Rundback of North Platte of North Platte, Robin (Zach) Zentner of Cedar Rapids, NE, Cody Rundback of North Platte, Josey (Abe) Marshall of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, Tammie Gaites of Chicago, John Gaites of Stapleton, Stacy (Pedro) Mora of Denver, Chase Rundback of Mullen, Reatta Rundback and Dallie Rundback, both of Tryon; great grandchildren, Shyla (Cody) Bridwell, Isabelle Loeffer, Hayden Loeffer, Roper Lee Rundback, Stetson Rundback, Sadie Zentner, Preston Marshall, Winston Marshall, Wiley Marshall, Johnathon Marshall; great great grandson, Wesley Bridwell; sister, Irene (Gary) Branham of North Platte; sisters-in-law, Rachel Patterson of Scottsbluff, Lavonne Ragland of Broken Bow; brother-in-law, John Ragland of Aurora, good friend, Bernice; numerous other family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Herbert and Daisy; wife, Barbara; Jo Gaites; daughter, Carolyn Rundback; sisters, Mary Lou Lake, Hazel Wolf; granddaughter, Tyann Gaites; great grandsons, James and Jed VanderWay.

Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Ringgold Free Methodist Church in Ringgold with Reverend John Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at McCain Cemetery near Stapleton. Visitation will be held noon-7:00 P.M., with family present 5:00-7:00, Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
