Area NSAA Boy's State Basketball results from 3-12

(North Platte, Nebraska) – Visit North Platte is thrilled to announce the return of the highly anticipated Flatrock Pro/Am hosted by Disc Gauntlet. This exciting disc golf tournament, sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), is set to take place on March 15th and 16th, 2025, at the Cody Park Disc Golf Course and River’s Edge Golf Course.

The Flatrock Pro/Am will be a captivating two-day, three-round B-tier tournament featuring both professional and amateur players. On March 15th, competitors will play the first two rounds, with the third and final round held on March 16th for select divisions. All participants must be current PDGA members; those who are not yet members can join during the registration process.

“We are incredibly excited to host the Flatrock Pro/Am here in North Platte,” said Lisa Burke, Executive Director of Visit North Platte. “This tournament is an excellent opportunity to showcase our vibrant community, while also growing the sport of disc golf in Nebraska and the surrounding region. Disc Gauntlet to Host Flatrock Pro/Am Disc Golf Tournament Sponsored by Visit North Platte

After spending the last 15 years at North Platte High School coaching the Wrestling program Coach Dale Hall is back on the mat this time as the new Head Coach for the Hershey Panthers. Hall led North Platte High School to one of its best-ever Wrestling finishes in 2021, where they finished runner-up, and is looking to bring that success to Hershey.&nbsp;

In addition to his duties as the new Wrestling Coach, he will also Coach the Girls' Tennis Team.

Kearney, Neb. –&nbsp;Freshman southpaw&nbsp;Jerzie Schindler&nbsp;threw five strong innings and junior shortstop&nbsp;Mary Chvatal&nbsp;had an RBI triple to help Nebraska Kearney salvage the second game of a double header with Central Missouri,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://lopers.com/sports/softball/stats/2025/central-missouri/boxscore/8180">3-2</a>, Sunday afternoon at Dryden Park.

This is MIAA “Opening Weekend” with these games pushed back two days due to weather and field conditions.

After the Jennies (9-7) hit three homers to take game one,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://lopers.com/sports/softball/stats/2025/central-missouri/boxscore/8179">9-0 in five innings</a>, the Lopers rebounded behind Schindler (Central City). She improved to 5-2 by limiting UCM to one run over the first five innings with sophomore&nbsp;Daniela Morillas&nbsp;(Newcastle, Calif.) working out of two jams to pick up her second save.

Schindler walked two and gave up six singles with UCM stranded nine on the base paths. That included leaving the bags full in the second and stranding two in the fourth. At the plate, Colorado senior second baseman&nbsp;Rylyn Nelson&nbsp;(1 for 2, walk) laced an RBI double to right center to make it 1-0 in the first. UNK added two insurance runs in the fifth after Arizona junior left fielder Alivia De La Cruz led off with a single and Chvatal brought her home with a line drive triple to left center. She then scored via wild pitch.

In the top of the sixth, the Jens had runners at second and third with one down when leadoff hitter and center fielder Lea Blackman hit a grounder to third. Junior&nbsp;Alyissa Fortik&nbsp;(Raymond) threw home for the out with sophomore catcher&nbsp;Gianna Galli&nbsp;(Stockton, Calif.) then throwing down to second to catch Blackman in a run down. Finally, UCM had a sac fly in the seventh, but a ground out ended the game.

Emily Brouse (3-2) threw a five-inning one-hitter in game one. She worked around five walks thanks to four K’s with second baseman Jadyn Sheffield (3 for 3, three runs &amp; two RBI’s)&nbsp; pacing a 12-hit attack.

UNK (9-9) hosts Missouri Western State Monday at 12 and 2 p.m. The Griffons (11-6) split with Fort Hays State today.

UNK Softball: Lopers Split Home Opener with UCM; Griffs Up Next

North Platte, Neb. – North Platte finishes the weekend road trip with a doubleheader loss to Central Community College on Sunday.&nbsp;

The Raiders tacked on one run in the bottom of the first inning, before stretching their lead to 11-0 with two runs in the third and eight in the fourth.

North Platte avoided the shutout with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Back-to-back errors by the Central shortstop put two North Platte runners at first and second. A fielder’s choice moved Samantha Seger to third, before a ball hit on the right side of the infield plated the baserunner from third.

Sheena Smith pitched all four innings for the Knights allowing 11 runs on nine hits and struck out two in game one.

A Braelyn Sindelar home run put the Raiders out front in the bottom of first inning, before the Knights exploded for five runs in the top of the third.

Byanka Tyan drew a walk to open the inning before back-to-back singles loaded the bases with no one down. Alieze Moreno waited patiently in the box and on the seventh pitch of the at bat drew a walk to knot the game at 1-1.

A single by Victoria Arellano plated two baserunners to stretch the North Platte lead to 3-1. North Platte would go on to tally two more runs in the inning to stretch their lead to four. Central fought back with three runs in the bottom of the third, before regaining the lead with three runs in the fourth.

North Platte managed one run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Arellano. Central added one more run in the bottom of the frame, while holding off the Knights in the top of the seventh to earn the win.

Sarah Perez surrendered four runs on three hits in just three innings of work in the circle. Arellano came on in relief but allowed four runs on seven hits in the loss.

North Platte (0-10, 0-4 Region IX) will return to the Dowhower Sports Complex for a doubleheader with Dakota College at Bottineau on Saturday beginning at noon.

Lincoln, Ne - First round girls games at the Nebraska State Basketball Tournament are in the books after Thursday's games. Area team Gothenburg plays Lincoln Christian Friday morning at 9am in the Class C1 Semifinals. Winner plays for the state championship on Saturday at 11am.

Semifinal Friday from Girls State Basketball Tournament in Lincoln

With its fourth victory in the last five games, 10th-seeded Nebraska improved to 21-10 overall (10-8 Big Ten) and advanced to Friday's quarterfinal against No. 2 seed UCLA. Tip-off against the AP No. 4 Bruins (27-2,) is set for 5:30 p.m. (CT) with live television coverage by the Big Ten Network.

Seventh-seeded Illinois slipped to 21-9 (11-7 Big Ten) on the season, as Nebraska avenged a 77-68 loss to the Fighting Illini in Champaign on Feb. 16.

Prince hit 6-of-10 shots from the field including all three of her three-point attempts in the game, while adding a team-high five assists for the Big Red. Prince hit back-to-back short jumpers to tie the game at 65 with 2:18 left, after the Huskers fell behind 56-47 in the closing seconds of the third quarter.

Petrie, a 6-2 sophomore forward from Gold Coast, Australia, then gave Nebraska the lead for good with a huge three-pointer from the left wing to make it 68-65 with 1:34 left.&nbsp;

Genesis Bryant, who scored 17 of her game-high 20 points for the Illini in the second half, hit a pair of free throws to cut the margin to one with 1:16 left. Petrie then provided a layup on a baseline inbounds play that included an outstanding screen from&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/logan-nissley">Logan Nissley</a>&nbsp;with 26.8 seconds left after Nissley had kept the possession alive with two enormous offensive rebounds for the Huskers.

Nebraska then got a defensive stop that ended with an&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/alexis-markowski">Alexis Markowski</a>&nbsp;defensive rebound.&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/callin-hake">Callin Hake</a>&nbsp;was fouled and calmly stepped to the free throw line with 11 seconds left to sink both free throws to give NU a 72-67 edge.&nbsp;

Petrie finished with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting while adding five rebounds, two assists and two early blocked shots in the game. Nissley, who started Nebraska's late rally with a layup at the buzzer to end the third quarter, finished with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.&nbsp;

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/petra-bozan">Petra Bozan</a>&nbsp;gave a huge lift to the Big Red inside with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including a three-point play midway through the fourth quarter that pulled Nebraska within 60-59.

The double-figure efforts from Bozan and Petrie supplied substantial support inside to Markowski, who was held to nine points and four rebounds. Markowski added two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Hake added seven points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, while&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/alberte-rimdal">Alberte Rimdal</a>&nbsp;also pitched in seven points off the bench. Illinois natives&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/kendall-moriarty">Kendall Moriarty</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/amiah-hargrove">Amiah Hargrove</a>&nbsp;rounded out the scoring for the Huskers with two points apiece in a true team effort in which Nebraska's bench outscored the Illini, 22-7.

For the game, Nebraska hit 28-of-57 shots (.491), including 8-of-16 threes. The Huskers also connected on 10-of-12 free throws, including all five in the decisive fourth quarter.&nbsp; The Big Red won the rebounding battle, 30-27, including 12-6 in the fourth quarter.

Illinois connected on 26-of-57 shots (.456), including 5-of-14 threes (.357), while going 13-for-15 at the line. The Illini won the turnover battle, 15-12.

Kendall Bostic scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds but was held to just one second-half field goal and was scoreless in the fourth quarter. Adalia McKenzie added 16 points and a game-high 10 assists - all in the first three quarters for the Illini.

In an entertaining first half, Illinois jumped out to a 13-2 lead before Nebraska responded with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to four points at 19-15 at the end of the first quarter.

The Huskers continued to cut lead in the second quarter, trimming the margin to one point on two occasions, before the Illini took a 32-30 lead to the half.

Prince and Bozan led Nebraska with eight points apiece. Bozan went 4-for-4 in the half, while Prince hit 3-of-5 shots including both of her three-point attempts. Prince added three assists for the Huskers.

Nebraska hit 12-of-28 shots (.429) in the half, including 3-of-7 threes (.429), while going 3-for-4 at the line.

Illinois got 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting from Bostic, while McKenzie added nine points and six assists in the half.

The Fighting Illini hit 14-of-28 shots, including 1-of-3 threes and 3-of-4 three-point attempts. Both teams committed seven first-half turnovers, while Illinois won the first-half battle of the boards, 16-13.

Nebraska started the second half strong with a three from Nissley, a layup from Hake and a three from Prince to take its first lead of the game at 38-37 with 7:11 left in the third period. Nissley's second three-pointer put NU up 41-39 with 6:04 left, and a Rimdal three-point play kept the Huskers in front at 44-42 with 4:29 left in quarter.&nbsp;

However, McKenzie and Bryant then teamed up on an 8-0 Illini run to claim a 50-44 lead with 2:26 left in the third. The lead grew to 56-47 before Nissley's third quarter buzzer beater. Illinois won the third quarter 24-19, before Nebraska responded with a decisive 25-14 edge in the fourth.

Lincoln, Ne - The Boys 2025 State Basketball Brackets were officially released Thursday morning. In Class C1, Ogallala (24-1) is the #2 seed while Cozad (24-3) is on the other side of the C1 bracket as the #4 seed. In Class D1, North Platte St. Pat's (19-6) is the #6 seed and also from the area, Dundy County-Stratton (19-5) is the #7 seed. The tournament begins next Wednesday in Lincoln.

After concluding the regular season ranked No. 5 and with a 11-3 dual record, the Nebraska wrestling team heads to Evanston, Ill., for the <a href="https://bigten.org/wrest/article/bltd1976440184eae42/">2025 Big Ten Championships</a>. The Huskers bring seven top three <a href="https://huskers.com/news/2025/03/5/huskers-earn-seven-top-three-preliminary-seeds">pre-seeds</a> to the two-day championship event, set to begin Saturday, March 8 at 10 a.m. (CT), which will be carried on the Big Ten Network.

The Big Ten Network will offer live linear and streaming coverage of the championships. Session I begins Saturday, March 8 at 10 a.m. (CT) and Session II semifinals start at 7 p.m. (CT). The championship coverage continues Sunday at noon (CT) with consolation matches on B1G+ and returns to BTN at 4:30 p.m. (CT) for the final bouts. Additional mat coverage can be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required) for every session.

In its 13 years in the Big Ten, Nebraska has nine top-five finishes, most recently claiming third at the 2022-23 and 2023-24 championships with an individual champion at each in Ridge Lovett (149) and Silas Allred (197). The 111th Big Ten Wrestling Championships will be held at the Welsh-Ryan Arena, hosted by Northwestern.

Last season, the Huskers finished third with 118 team points. Lovett highlighted the tournament, winning the 149-pound Big Ten title, marking back-to-back Big Ten Champions for Nebraska after Allred won in 2023. NU had seven top-five finishes and clinched nine automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.

Caleb Smith grabs the highest pre-seed for Nebraska as the No. 2 at 125. Six Huskers are seeded as No. 3, including Brock Hardy (141), Lovett (149), Antrell Taylor (157), Christopher Minto (165), Lenny Pinto (174) and Allred (184). Jacob Van Dee (133) also comes in as a top-10 seed at No. 6. Husker Wrestling set for Big Ten Championships

Indianapolis -&nbsp;Alexis Markowski led a complete team effort by Nebraska, as the Huskers rolled to an 84-60 win over Rutgers in the first round of the TIAA Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening.

Nebraska, the tournament's No. 10 seed, improved to 20-10 (10-8 Big Ten) on the season with its third victory in the last four games, while ending No. 15 seed Rutgers' season at 11-19 overall and 3-15 in the Big Ten. The victory by the Huskers secured their third 20-win season in the last four years and 20th 20-win season in program history.

Nebraska will advance to Thursday's second round to face No. 7 seed Illinois at 5:30 p.m. (CT) in a game televised live by the Big Ten Network. Nebraska's game with the Fighting Illini also can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network, including Huskers.com.

Markowski, a four-time All-Big Ten center from Lincoln, notched her 12th double-double of the season and 52nd of her career with team highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes of work, as Nebraska led from nearly start to finish.

Freshman Amiah Hargrove added a career-high-tying 13 points to go along with four rebounds off the bench, while senior guard Alberte Rimdal contributed 12 points and a career-high-tying eight assists. Hargrove and Rimdal, who combined to go 9-for-18 from the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, combined for 25 of Nebraska's 38 bench points in the contest.

Big Ten All-Freshman selection Britt Prince rounded out four Huskers in double figures with 10 points and five assists, while fellow freshman Petra Bozan added nine points and three boards behind Markowski inside.

As a team, Nebraska drained 13-of-31 three-pointers (.419) on its way to 55 percent (33-60) shooting overall from the field. It marked the most three-pointers the Huskers have hit in the all-time series with Rutgers, fueling the first scoring performance of more than 70 points by the Big Red in the series with the Scarlet Knights.

The Huskers held Rutgers to just 60 points, including 37 through the first three quarters, on 35.6 percent (21-59) shooting, including 5-of-17 threes (.294). Nebraska also won the rebounding battle, 38-30, while matching the Scarlet Knights with 14 turnovers.

Markowski put up a big first half with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting including a pair of three-pointers, while adding seven rebounds to power Nebraska to a 39-24 halftime lead. The Huskers drained eight threes in the first half, including a pair from Rimdal, to surge to lead.

Eight Huskers scored in the first half, as Nebraska hit 14-of-29 shots from the field. NU matched Rutgers on the glass in the half, while winning the first-half turnover battle, 9-8.

Nebraska held Rutgers to 9-for-32 (.281) shooting, including just 2-of-9 three-pointers.

Nebraska jumped to a quick 6-0 lead to force a Rutgers timeout just over 90 seconds into the game, before the Scarlet Knights responded to take a 9-8 lead with 3:30 left in the quarter

Then the Huskers responded with a major flurry of their own, beginning with a Rimdal three-pointer with 3:09 left. After a Rutgers basket, Markowski and Prince drained back-to-back threes before a layup by Markowski and a three-pointer by Hargrove capped an 11-0 Big Red run to give Nebraska its first double-digit lead at 22-11 with 46 seconds left in the quarter.

Mya Petticord sank a jumper at the buzzer to stop the run and send the teams to the second quarter with Nebraska leading 22-13.

The second period started slow for both teams before Logan Nissley drained another three-pointer. Nissley finished with six points, four rebounds and four assists in a solid effort on the night. Rimdal added her second three before a layup by Callin Hake and a three-pointer by Bozan pushed Nebraska's lead to 34-17 with 3:06 left in the first half.

Markowski scored Nebraska's last five points of the half to send the Huskers to halftime with a 39-24 lead. Huskers storm past Scarlet Knights in Big Ten First Round

COLUMBUS, Ohio —&nbsp;The&nbsp;Omaha Supernovas,&nbsp;Nebraska’s professional volleyball team and first Pro Volleyball Champions, got a monster performance from rookie opposite&nbsp;Emily Londot,&nbsp;who recorded a match-high 19 points in Omaha’s dominant 25-17, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of the Columbus Fury (4-10) Wednesday night at Nationwide Arena. The win marks Omaha’s sixth in its last seven matches, moving the&nbsp;Supernovas (10-4)&nbsp;back into a tie with the Orlando Valkyries atop the Pro Volleyball Federation standings.

Londot put on a show in a return to her home state, pouring in 15 kills on a season-high .367 hitting percentage to go with three blocks, one ace and four digs. It was an offensive showcase for the Supernovas who also got impressive performances from outside hitters&nbsp;Reagan Cooper&nbsp;and&nbsp;Brooke Nuneviller.&nbsp;Making a second trip back to her former home, Cooper added 13 kills (.281) with seven digs and her team-leading 11th ace of the season. Nuneviller finished with 11 kills and hit over .300 for the sixth time in the last seven matches with a .308 clip. The Oregon product also recorded a match-high 15 digs with two aces and four assists.&nbsp;

Omaha middle blockers&nbsp;Kayla Caffey&nbsp;and&nbsp;Kaitlyn Hord&nbsp;combined for one of their best nights of the season. Caffey slammed down six kills on a team-high .455 clip with two blocks and her eighth ace of the year. Hord had five kills on nine swings with one error (.444) while posting three blocks and four digs. She continues to lead the PVF in both blocks (48) and blocks per set (1.00). Setter&nbsp;Natalia Valentín-Anderson&nbsp;hit the 40-assist mark for the fifth time in 2025 with 40 assists, nine digs and one kill. Libero&nbsp;Camila Gómez&nbsp;ended the night with 11 digs and a trio of assists.&nbsp;

The Supernovas hit .339, recording their sixth .300-plus hitting performance in franchise history and third of the season. Omaha put down eight blocks and tied its season high with five aces.&nbsp;

Kaylee Cox led the Fury with 14 points on 11 kills and three blocks. Opposite Izabella Rapacz chipped in eight kills and a pair of stuffs. The Supernovas’ PVF-leading defense held Columbus to a .190 hitting percentage while also recording nine blocks and two aces.

Set 1:&nbsp;Cooper got the party started with a kill on her former home court, jumpstarting a 7-1 run to start the match. Londot posted four points in the run with two kills and two blocks, while Hord also tallied a pair of kills. Cooper, Londot and Nuneviller each added a kill in to hold a steady lead at 11-5. Raina Terry and Cox went back-to-back on kills to cut the deficit to four, but Caffey and Hord responded with one kill each. Londot put down her fifth kill of the opening set, which was followed by Cooper’s ace to put Omaha up 16-10 heading into the media timeout. The Fury kept pace with the Supernovas as Abby Walker added two kills to keep within striking distance at 20-15 Omaha. Then, Cooper and Londot recorded two kills apiece to make up the next four points giving the Supernovas set point. Cox fended off the loss with a point, but Nuneviller ended the set for a 25-17 win.&nbsp;

The win marks Omaha’s sixth in its last seven matches, moving the&nbsp;Supernovas (10-4)&nbsp;back into a tie with the Orlando Valkyries atop the Pro Volleyball Federation standings.Londot put on a show in a return to her home state, pouring in 15 kills on a season-high .367 hitting percentage to go with three blocks, one ace and four digs. Olivia Lovegrove earned a top-20 individual finish for the Nebraska women's golf team at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., March 2-4.

Lovegrove, a freshman out of Lincoln Christian High School, finished 19th at 223 (+7) while competing as an individual outside the Husker lineup. Lovegrove opened with a 71 (-1) on Sunday, before closing with a round of 73 (+1) on Tuesday on the 6,345-yard layout of The Preserve Golf Club at Saddlebrooke.

Hannah Kono and Danica Lundgren both added top-30 individual finishes to lead the Huskers to a ninth-place finish. Kono, a sophomore from Enkoping, Sweden, tied for 28th with a three-round total of 225 (+9), while Lundgren, a freshman from Austin, Texas, tied for 30th at 226 (+10).&nbsp;&nbsp;

Senior Miu Takahashi and sophomore Arden Louchheim tied for 42nd at 228 (+12), while Andrea Velez rounded out Nebraska's lineup with a tie for 58th at 233 (+17).

As a team, Nebraska finished with a three-round total of 905 (+41). The hosts from Kansas State won the team title at 868 (+4) behind individual medalist Carla Bernat's 205 (-11). Arizona claimed runner-up honors at 878 (+14), 10 shots behind the Wildcats, while TCU took third at 879 (+15). Oklahoma finished fourth at 885 (+21), and Wisconsin rounded out the top five at 894 (+30).

The Huskers return to action at the Spring Break Shootout in Dade City, Fla., March 17-18.

Lovegrove earns top 20 finish at MountainView

Columbus, Ohio – Despite a record-breaking performance from&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/brice-williams">Brice Williams</a>, Ohio State outlasted Nebraska, 116-114 in double overtime Tuesday evening in Columbus,

The Huskers (17-13, 7-12 Big Ten) and Buckeyes traded blows in the highest scoring game in school history, as the 230 combined points tied a school record for most combined points in a game. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field and combined for 24 3-pointers (12 each) in a game between two teams on the NCAA bubble.

Williams was magnificent in the loss, as the 6-foot-7 senior guard finished with 43 points, breaking the school mark for points in a game which was set by Eric Piatkowski in 1994. Williams, who hit a career-high five 3-pointers, bettered his previous career high of 32 and was the most by any Big Ten player this season.

Williams, who had 20 points in the two overtime periods, tied the game with a free throw with 8.4 seconds remaining in regulation. In the first OT, he scored nine points, the last a jumper that put Nebraska up 99-95 with 1:07 left. Ohio State rallied, getting a 3-pointer from Micah Parrish with 46 seconds left and tied the game as Devin Royal split a pair of free throws with 7.2 seconds left the first overtime. On the Huskers’ final possession, Williams had a baseline jumper that wad just off the mark, sending the game to a second overtime.

Nebraska led 103-00 with 4:01 left in the second overtime, before Ohio State (17-13, 9-10) scored seven straight points, capped by Brice Thornton’s 3-pointer to give OSU a 107-103 lead. Nebraska would fight back, as a 3-point play from&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/ahron-ulis">Ahron Ulis</a>&nbsp;pulled NU within one. The Huskers had one final chance after a Williams 3-pointer made it 114-111 with 3.5 seconds remaining.&nbsp; After a deflection on the sideline, OSU inbounded on the sideline with 3.3 seconds left. After the potential violation was missed, John Mobley Jr. sank a pair of free throws to seal the win for Ohio State.

Williams was one of four Huskers to finish in double figures, as&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/juwan-gary">Juwan Gary</a>&nbsp;had 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting and seven rebounds while&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/connor-essegian">Connor Essegian</a>&nbsp;(16) and&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/andrew-morgan">Andrew Morgan</a>&nbsp;(14) also finished in double figures off the bench.

Thornton led five OSU players in double figures with 29 points, while Parrish (22), Royal (22) and John Mobley Jr. (20) all finished with at least 20 points.

The Huskers overcame a slow start to get back into the game and trailed just 45-39 at the half, as Williams and Gary had 12 first-half points for the visitors. &nbsp;

Ohio State started hot, hitting seven of their first 10 shots from the field to jump out to an early 19-8 lead in the first seven-plus minutes, but the Huskers would not go away. A five-point possession, capped by a three-point play from Conor Essegian got the Huskers going and Nebraska continued to chip away, getting to within 21-15 after a Williams jumper.

OSU led 27-18 with 8:31 left in the half before Nebraska ran off seven straight points over the next two minutes, including five from Gary to pull to within 27-25. The Buckeyes eventually built the lead to 38-30 after a Micah Parrish 3-pointer with 4:35 left in the half, but Nebraska battled back with a 7-2 run to pull within 40-37 after an Essegian jumper with 57 seconds left in the half. Nebraska was within 42-39 after a Williams jumper before Mobley ended the half with a 3-pointer at the buzzer to stretch the lead back to six.

Nebraska opened the second half with a 9-2 spurt, taking its first lead of the game on Williams’ 3-pointer with 17:05 left, but Ohio State would respond. With the score tied at 51, OSU went on a 15-4 run to take a 66-55 lead on a 3-point play from Royal with 11:29 left.

The Huskers would hang around and trailed 85-78 with 2:30 left before making a final push in regulation. The Huskers went on a 10-3 run, tying the score at 88-all on a three-point play from Morgan with 42 seconds left. Mobley would split a pair of free throws with 15.8 seconds left before Williams split a pair of free throws with 8.4 seconds in regulation and the Huskers held to force overtime.

The Huskers will host Iowa on Senior Day this Sunday, March 9, at 11:30 a.m. The Huskers will honor seven seniors with pregame ceremonies beginning at 11:05 a.m.

Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field and combined for 24 3-pointers (12 each) in a game between two teams on the NCAA bubble.Williams was magnificent in the loss, as the 6-foot-7 senior guard finished with 43 points, breaking the school mark for points in a game which was set by Eric Piatkowski in 1994. Williams, who hit a career-high five 3-pointers, bettered his previous career high of 32 and was the most by any Big Ten player this season.Williams, who had 20 points in the two overtime periods, tied the game with a free throw with 8.4 seconds remaining in regulation. In the first OT, he scored nine points, the last a jumper that put Nebraska up 99-95 with 1:07 left. Ohio State rallied, getting a 3-pointer from Micah Parrish with 46 seconds left and tied the game as Devin Royal split a pair of free throws with 7.2 seconds left the first overtime. Williams breaks school record in Double OT loss

Redshirt junior point guard Jillian Aschoff (Lincoln Pius X) made the second-team, graduate forward Kia Wilson (St. George, Kan.) was tabbed third-team with senior wing Samantha Moore (Mullen) named honorable mention. This is Aschoff's second All-MIAA honor and the first for both Wilson and Moore.

The league's head coaches vote on the makeup of the team and cannot vote for their own players. ​

Heading into the MIAA Tournament this weekend, Aschoff is at 11.9 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. One of three Lopers to have stated all 28 games, she leads UNK in points, rebounds, assists, steals, free throws made (94) and attempted (120). Having three double doubles, Aschoff shoots 78% from the line and 45% from the field.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Wilson is one of the MIAA's better shooters from the floor, coming in at 58.7%. She is second on the team in scoring (9.6 avg.), fourth in rebounds (5.1), and first in blocks (23). Starting all 28 games to date, the second-year Lopers had back-to-back 20-point games in mid-February and reached double digits in nine other contests. Finally, Wilson recently reached 700 career points.

Finally, Moore had a breakthrough senior campaign and enters the postseason at 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. Finally, Annay Trusty is the league's Top Freshman with Amanda Davied of Pittsburg State the Coach of the Year.

UNK (20-8) is the fourth seed in the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City and faces Washburn (17-12) this Friday at noon.

Norfolk, Neb. – The North Platte Community College softball team fell in its doubleheader against Northeast Community College on Sunday.

Northeast tallied five runs in the bottom half of the first inning, before adding seven more runs across the next three innings to build a 12-0 lead.

Victoria Arellano reached on an error to open the fifth inning, before a single by Byanka Tyan advanced Arellano to second. Northeast struck out the next two batters before Samantha Seger and Alieze Moreno drew walks to plate the first run of the afternoon. A single by Sarah Perez plated Tyan as the Knights tacked on their final run.

Sheena Smith took the loss for the Knights in the circle. Smith pitched 2.2 innings but was charged with 11 runs on seven hits. Arellano allowed one run in 1.1 innings in relief.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Northeast once again built a sizable lead in the bottom of the first inning. Hawks would go on to tally two more runs in the second and seven runs in the third inning to earn the run-rule victory.

Arellano gave up five runs on five hits and struck out one batter in her two innings of work.

North Platte (0-6) will travel to Beatrice next Saturday for a Region IX doubleheader with the Bobcats of Southeast Community College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

North Platte, Neb. – North Platte carried the lead into the final minute of regulation, but a clutch three helped Trinidad State escape with the 91-89 win on Saturday afternoon.

Sedrick Nari led the Knights with 24 points on 6-of-12 shooting from long range, while Justus Michael chipped in 19 points and four rebounds. Mo Diao, Trey Summers, and Alex Harper rounded out the Knights players in double digits with 11 points apiece.

“It was another tough loss tonight in a game that we played well enough to win,” said head coach Jacob Brandl. “We had to many mental mistakes that caught up to us in the end.”

North Platte held the lead for most of the second half until an 8-2 run capped off by an Amir Reaves putback gave the Trojans the 72-70 lead. The game remained tight down the stretch as the margin stayed within one possession.

Inside the final two minutes, Michael forced a Trinidad turnover before finding Diao in transition for the game tying bucket. North Platte limited the Trojans to a deep three on their next possession, before Summers split the defense and finished his layup as the Knights took the lead.

North Platte could not steal back the lead in the closing seconds, as Trinidad closed the game out at the free throw line.Knights finished the game shooting 45.1 percent (32-71) from the field but only managed to connect on 33.3 percent (12-36) from long range. Trinidad knocked down 49.2 percent of their shots from the field, while winning the rebounding battle, 43-32.The Trojans used a 7-2 run to take control early in the first half. Trinidad State would not let the Knights catch up, until five straight points from Nari pushed the Knights into the lead. North Platte held the momentum the rest of the way to take a 47-43 lead into the halftime break.“Now we need to get ready for playoff basketball and fortunately for us we earned the right to host the first-round game,” Brandl said.Knights (19-11) will host the opening round of the Region IX postseason tournament next Saturday.
