Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Haven Smith, Executive Director from the Mid-Plains United Way and the pair discussed about the upcoming Holiday Café fundraiser event the united way is doing at the Holiday Craft Fair and Vendor Show this weekend and ways to help donate.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way is providing a Holiday Cafe at the Holiday Craft Fair and Vendor Show that is going on this Saturday and Sunday at the D&amp;N Event Center in North Platte. Instead of a traditional concession stand of nachos, hot dogs, etc, this year, the united way will offer a Holiday Cafe with different breakfast and lunch menu items and beverages. The craft fair and vendor show runs Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm and Sunday from 10:00am-3:00pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The holidays can be a stressful time to donate, Smith talks about how you can take part in the community. Smith also talks about what is the best way of donating to the united way. If you would like to learn more, check out the podcast above.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Prairie Arts Center Executive Holly Carlini about what's going on at the Prairie Arts Center. The duo chatted about the Statewide Holiday Passport, ladies night out and classes the PAC is offering.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - &nbsp;The 2023 Holiday Passport is officially underway and the PAC is one of 20 attractions on this years passport. All four floors at the PAC is full decked out in holiday decorations and will be on display until January 7th. The floors are decorated in different themes.&nbsp;

Ladies night out is going on tomorrow in downtown North Platte and the PAC will be providing games and activities. This years theme is Willy Wonka. Even thought you have to sign up, for folks who did not get signed up are still invited to come shop and check out the discounts.&nbsp;

Lastly, the PAC is offering different classes for anyone to enjoy. A fun one going on tomorrow is a beer tasting with Pal's Brewing Company and you get to paint with beer. NORTH PLATTE - Communty member are gearing up for a fundraiser event involving Christmas caroling to raise funds to purchase 6 sewing machines to send to Kenya. The group is looking to raise $1,400 to purchase the 6 machines with. The machines will be used to create new uniforms for school children who attend Overcoming Faith Schools. The school has over 900 students.&nbsp;

The group will be caroling from 6:00pm - 9:00pm on December 22nd in North Platte. The club says for a suggested $50 donation, you can have the carolers come to your home or send the group to someone else's home. If you would like to donate, you can send checks to North Platte Rotary PO Box 2313, North Platte, NE 69103. Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Teresa Helie, member of The Compassionate Friends Group about the Worldwide Candle Lighting event taking place this Sunday but also to learn more about the Compassionate Friends Group.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - This Sunday, is the Worldwide Candle Lighting for The Friends Compassionate Group as chapters will light off their candle at 7:00pm as the candles will stay lit for an hour in honor of a child who has passed away. The Compassionate Friends Group North Platte Chapter invites members from the public to arrive at the First Lutheran Church at 6:30pm to participate in the 7:00pm candle lighting event. Guests are asked to bring a candle, a picture if they choose too and the group ask guests if they can bring a votive candle.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Compassionate Friends Group is a worldwide group of people who have lost their children, grandchildren or lost someone and need folks to talk with. Members in this group meet once a month and will learn from one another. The group was founded over 50 years ago. NORTH PLATTE - With December starting to roll through, the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign is off to a strong start for this year's campaign. This week, Habitat for Humanity and the North Platte Rotary club are doing a match day with the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is anywhere between 30-32% of their goal for the end of the campaign.

This Friday will be the community dinner. The free event is open to everyone who wants to enjoy a meal with the community. Turkey, mash potatoes are just a few of the items that will be available. Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Lenny Hassel about the upcoming North Platte Elks Lodge #985&nbsp;Hoop Shoot that's taking place this Sunday.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Elks Lodge #985 is hosting their annual Hoop Shoot challenge this upcoming Sunday at Adams Middle School in North Platte. The event is for ages 8-13 (age determined as of April 1st, 2024) and is free to participate. Doors will open around 12:30pm for sign ups. Girls will shoot at 1:00pm and boys will shoot at 2:00pm. Each shooter will have 25 free throw attempts.

Last week, the Salvation Army did their food distributions box donations and donated over 150 boxes to families who signed up. Boxes included Turkey's, mash potatoes and so much more. Leftover food from the boxes was then donated to partner agencies of the Salvation Army.&nbsp;

The Salvation Army is also gearing up for their Christmas Community Dinner on December 8th starting at 5:00pm. The event is for anyone in the community who wants to attend. Also, the Red Kettle campaign is underway. In North Platte, there are 8 locations. Volunteers are needed and if you would like to volunteer to ring the bell,<a href="https://registertoring.com/"> click here</a>. If someone under the age of 18 wants to volunteer an adult or guardian must be with the Individual.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE – Shop North Platte is officially under way and will continue on until December 12th. Shop North Platte was created to shop locally at North Platte businesses this holiday season. Over 30 local businesses are taking part in this year's event. Shoppers who shop locally have a chance to win $5,000. Shoppers will receive a blue ticket and every $10 spent, shoppers can earn another blue ticket. Folks just entering the business will also receive the blue ticket. The drawing is set for December 14th. Shoppers must be 18 and older to participate in the drawing.

Shop North Platte replaces the old passport system that was used for the past 4 years. “I absolutely loved the passport program as it highlighted our local entrepreneurs and small businesses that give so much back to our community... but our one-day program we felt just wasn’t enough,” said Cassie Condon. “We really wanted to find something that encouraged customer loyalty and raise more awareness for retail availability... we really wanted to expand it from a one-day program to a three-week program and reward people for shopping locally.”

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Lauren Coleman, MPCC Assistant Director of Multicultural Leadership and Engagement about the upcoming Native American dancer/storyteller who will be in North Platte this Thursday but also chatted about Santa's Workshop that's going on next week.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - Mid-Plains Community College Student Life Department will be hosting a free event this Thursday when they welcome Native American dancer/storyteller Garan Coons to the McCook and North Platte campuses. Coons travels all around the world to educate the public about negative Native American stereotypes by using his personal experiences. He will be performing in McCook at 11:00am at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center and will be in North Platte at 2:00pm at the McDonald-Belton Theatre on NPCC's south campus.&nbsp;

Also going on December 5th is Santa's Workshop at the activity center and cafeteria on NPCC's south campus. The festivals are planned to run from 5:00-7:30 with lots of fun activities for families to enjoy. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with 4-H'er Nattellia Boyer and 4-H Development Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson about the 4-H Lottery Pig Project.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - NORTH PLATTE - 4-H is America's largest youth development program across the United States that helps learn skills that will last a lifetime. The age requirement for 4-H is the ages of 8-18. There are many different categories that 4-H'ers can participate in during their time in the program. The Lottery Pig Project is new to Lincoln and Logan County 4-H'ers to participate in.&nbsp;

The Lottery Pig Project gives all youths in 4-H who participates a chance to learn about the pig and how to raise it. For these 4-H'ers, they all start at the same spot when participating in the Lottery Pig Project. Getting a pig ready for competition takes time for the 4-H'ers. "It starts months before because you have to train them to walk, train their hair, but it takes a lot, but it's a lot of fun and learning," said Natellia Boyer.&nbsp;Boyer was reserved champion last year in the Lottery Pig Project.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - he North Platte city council held their regular meeting on November 21st and their were different agenda that was discussed amongst the council. Some items discussed in this council meeting was an upgrade to the city of North Platte website, water improvements along 9th and Adams Street, second reading of Ordinance 4148 which is the skills games fees, and so much more.&nbsp;

OGALLALA - Shop Small is a national wide campaign that kicks off this Saturday, Nov. 25th to dedicate a day of shopping to small businesses in communities. As Saturday approaches, Ogallala is gearing up for Shop Small Saturday. The community is full of many small businesses to shop and support. With the holiday season, shopping small is a great opportunity to get a once in a lifetime gift for someone special. This year, participating in business will be a part of a special passport that will be handed out Saturday.

PODCAST- Shop Small Saturday starts this weekend in Ogallala

Post Sports Director had the chance to talk with Haven Smith from the Mid-Plains United Way and also Mark Russell aka Dragon, the President of the Guardians of the Children. The crew talked about what's been going on with the United Way but also giving us an inside of Guardians of the Children.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way recently announced late last week that they received a check from Ace Hardware for just a little over $800. Ace Hardware did a dollar round up in the month of October to help raise money for United Way. Mid-Plains United Way has a busy time ahead of them as they have more events coming up.&nbsp;&nbsp;

- North Platte Year End Giving Starts Tuesday, Nov. 28th&nbsp;

-Gift Wrapping: Friday, Dec. 8th - Dec. 10th at Walmart here in North Platte. Presented by Lashley Land&nbsp;

-Triple Bee Holiday Craft Show Concession Stand: Dec. 16th &amp; 17th at the D&amp;N Event Center&nbsp;

-Giving Tree - FNBO at 201 N Dewey to benefit Hope Esperanza and Nebraska Youth Center Dec. 1st-20th.&nbsp;

Guardians of the Children is a non-profit motorcycle organization that helps children that have gone or may be going through child abuse. Members in the organization will attend the court hearings with these children and show their support for the children while they are testifying in court against their perpetrator.&nbsp;

The organization is also hosting a toy drive that will go through Dec. 5th and has partnered with Taco Johns. Both North Platte Taco Johns is doing their Nacho Navidad fundraiser for GOC as they are donating $.25 for Apple Grande &amp; $.50 for a LG Nacho Navidad.&nbsp;
