Post News Director chatted with Camon Landry from the Salvation Army and the duo recapped Thanksgiving week, chatted about the Red Kettle campaign and so much more.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Salvation Army is officially in full swing during this holiday season. Last week, the Salvation Army did their food distributions box donations and donated over 150 boxes to families who signed up. Boxes included Turkey's, mash potatoes and so much more. Leftover food from the boxes was then donated to partner agencies of the Salvation Army.&nbsp;

The Salvation Army is also gearing up for their Christmas Community Dinner on December 8th starting at 5:00pm. The event is for anyone in the community who wants to attend. Also, the Red Kettle campaign is underway. In North Platte, there are 8 locations. Volunteers are needed and if you would like to volunteer to ring the bell,<a href="https://registertoring.com/"> click here</a>. If someone under the age of 18 wants to volunteer an adult or guardian must be with the Individual.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Cassie Condon, Vice President of Operations for the North Platte Area of Chamber and Development talked about the Shop North Platte event that is going on tell December 12th.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE – Shop North Platte is officially under way and will continue on until December 12th. Shop North Platte was created to shop locally at North Platte businesses this holiday season. Over 30 local businesses are taking part in this year's event. Shoppers who shop locally have a chance to win $5,000. Shoppers will receive a blue ticket and every $10 spent, shoppers can earn another blue ticket. Folks just entering the business will also receive the blue ticket. The drawing is set for December 14th. Shoppers must be 18 and older to participate in the drawing.

Shop North Platte replaces the old passport system that was used for the past 4 years. “I absolutely loved the passport program as it highlighted our local entrepreneurs and small businesses that give so much back to our community... but our one-day program we felt just wasn’t enough,” said Cassie Condon. “We really wanted to find something that encouraged customer loyalty and raise more awareness for retail availability... we really wanted to expand it from a one-day program to a three-week program and reward people for shopping locally.”

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Lauren Coleman, MPCC Assistant Director of Multicultural Leadership and Engagement about the upcoming Native American dancer/storyteller who will be in North Platte this Thursday but also chatted about Santa's Workshop that's going on next week.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - Mid-Plains Community College Student Life Department will be hosting a free event this Thursday when they welcome Native American dancer/storyteller Garan Coons to the McCook and North Platte campuses. Coons travels all around the world to educate the public about negative Native American stereotypes by using his personal experiences. He will be performing in McCook at 11:00am at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center and will be in North Platte at 2:00pm at the McDonald-Belton Theatre on NPCC's south campus.&nbsp;

Also going on December 5th is Santa's Workshop at the activity center and cafeteria on NPCC's south campus. The festivals are planned to run from 5:00-7:30 with lots of fun activities for families to enjoy. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with 4-H'er Nattellia Boyer and 4-H Development Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson about the 4-H Lottery Pig Project.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - NORTH PLATTE - 4-H is America's largest youth development program across the United States that helps learn skills that will last a lifetime. The age requirement for 4-H is the ages of 8-18. There are many different categories that 4-H'ers can participate in during their time in the program. The Lottery Pig Project is new to Lincoln and Logan County 4-H'ers to participate in.&nbsp;

The Lottery Pig Project gives all youths in 4-H who participates a chance to learn about the pig and how to raise it. For these 4-H'ers, they all start at the same spot when participating in the Lottery Pig Project. Getting a pig ready for competition takes time for the 4-H'ers. "It starts months before because you have to train them to walk, train their hair, but it takes a lot, but it's a lot of fun and learning," said Natellia Boyer.&nbsp;Boyer was reserved champion last year in the Lottery Pig Project.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - he North Platte city council held their regular meeting on November 21st and their were different agenda that was discussed amongst the council. Some items discussed in this council meeting was an upgrade to the city of North Platte website, water improvements along 9th and Adams Street, second reading of Ordinance 4148 which is the skills games fees, and so much more.&nbsp;

OGALLALA - Shop Small is a national wide campaign that kicks off this Saturday, Nov. 25th to dedicate a day of shopping to small businesses in communities. As Saturday approaches, Ogallala is gearing up for Shop Small Saturday. The community is full of many small businesses to shop and support. With the holiday season, shopping small is a great opportunity to get a once in a lifetime gift for someone special. This year, participating in business will be a part of a special passport that will be handed out Saturday.

PODCAST- Shop Small Saturday starts this weekend in Ogallala

Post Sports Director had the chance to talk with Haven Smith from the Mid-Plains United Way and also Mark Russell aka Dragon, the President of the Guardians of the Children. The crew talked about what's been going on with the United Way but also giving us an inside of Guardians of the Children.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way recently announced late last week that they received a check from Ace Hardware for just a little over $800. Ace Hardware did a dollar round up in the month of October to help raise money for United Way. Mid-Plains United Way has a busy time ahead of them as they have more events coming up.&nbsp;&nbsp;

- North Platte Year End Giving Starts Tuesday, Nov. 28th&nbsp;

-Gift Wrapping: Friday, Dec. 8th - Dec. 10th at Walmart here in North Platte. Presented by Lashley Land&nbsp;

-Triple Bee Holiday Craft Show Concession Stand: Dec. 16th &amp; 17th at the D&amp;N Event Center&nbsp;

-Giving Tree - FNBO at 201 N Dewey to benefit Hope Esperanza and Nebraska Youth Center Dec. 1st-20th.&nbsp;

Guardians of the Children is a non-profit motorcycle organization that helps children that have gone or may be going through child abuse. Members in the organization will attend the court hearings with these children and show their support for the children while they are testifying in court against their perpetrator.&nbsp;

The organization is also hosting a toy drive that will go through Dec. 5th and has partnered with Taco Johns. Both North Platte Taco Johns is doing their Nacho Navidad fundraiser for GOC as they are donating $.25 for Apple Grande &amp; $.50 for a LG Nacho Navidad.&nbsp;

                    </figure><p>Guardians of the Children is a non-profit motorcycle organization that helps children that have gone or may be going through child abuse. Members in the organization will attend the court hearings with these children and show their support for the children while they are testifying in court against their perpetrator.&nbsp;</p><p>The organization is also hosting a toy drive that will go through Dec. 5th and has partnered with Taco Johns. Post News Director Canon Rath welcomed Mardel Manary and Diane Nuffer from the North Platte Opportunity Center for their monthly conversation but also to talk about the supported employment department.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Opportunity was awarded the Sara Rickertsen Grant last month and have recently used the money to purchase 2 speech tablets for individuals who are nonverbal to use and hooked up phonics as well as flash cards. "I have heard several reports that a couple of the individuals are already recognizing sight words and it's exciting to see that it's doing what we wanted to do," said Mardel Manary.&nbsp;

The NPOC has a supported employment department for individuals to help get jobs and work. The staff at the NPOC helps individuals with resumes, practice interview skills are just a few of many to name. With the supported employment department, it helps Indvidual's who are involved feel included within the community and build confidence.&nbsp;

OGALLALA - Keith County is gearing up for the Annual Keith County Holiday Craft Fair which is taking place tomorrow at the fairgrounds in Ogallala from 9:00am -12:00 pm (mountain time zone). Around 30 vendors will be participating at this years craft fair. During the craft fair, you can expect many one of a type gifts.

For shoppers who are still wanting to explore craft fairs after finishing the Keith County Holiday Craft Fair, just 20 miles down the road, Paxton will be hosting their craft fair as well. NORTH PLATTE - The Salvation Army is gearing up for the holiday season and the Red Kettle Campaign started this past Monday. The Salvation Army is also preparing food box donations for Thanksgiving and Christmas, a toy drive and so much more.&nbsp;

The Red Kettle campaign is the Salvations Army biggest fundraiser event. The iconic red kettles are seen all around the United States. The Red Kettles started in North Platte this past Monday. Volunteers stand out ringing the bells in front of the kettles. North Platte will be ringing at 8 locations this holiday season. Post Sports Director Paxton Gordon chatted with former Husker volleyball player, current Omaha Supernovas Team Ambassador/Assistant Director of Fan Engagement Kenzie Maloney about the Supernovas and her role with the organization.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Omaha Supernovas are the first ever professional volleyball team in the state of Nebraska and gearing up for their first season in a brand-new professional volleyball league, the Pro Volleyball Federation. The league consists of 8 teams and the league plays a 24-game regular season. Omaha will host 12 matches at the CHI Health Center. The league's first ever match will take place at CHI Health Center on January 24th, 2024, between the Supernovas and the Atlanta Vibe at 7pm.&nbsp;

Maloney is originally from Louisville, Kentucky and spent 4 years when the Nebraska Volleyball team. During her time in Nebraska, she was a two-time national champion with the Huskers. Maloney was a four-year standout at both Libro and Defensive Specialist. She was an AVCA All-America Third Team member after her senior season in 2018.&nbsp;

For the Supernovas, Maloney is the Assistant Director of Fan Engagement for the Supernovas but also one of three Team Ambassadors alongside former Husker, Kenzie Knuckles and former Creighton Bluejay,&nbsp; Jaela Zimmerman. As a Team Ambassador, Maloney puts it&nbsp;hand in hand with her current position of Assistant Director of Fan Engagement. "It's viewed as a fan engagement position, so we (team ambassadors) do a good job of spreading the word of the Pro Volleyball Federation and letting people know what it is, where they can find tickets, where they can get involved," said Kenzie Maloney.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Mid-Plains United Way has many upcoming events as we head into the holiday season. The events include:&nbsp;

The Nebraska Youth Center is to provide a safe environment for youths in crisis who can find acceptance in resolving issues. The center provides opportunities for these youth to positively change their behavioral patterns. The Nebraska Youth Center opened up its facility in North Platte in 2011.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath sat down with Axes &amp; Aces owners Lisa Citta and Brian Schimek and discussed the newest family fun/group entertainment attraction that is preparing to open in&nbsp;North Platte.

NORTH PLATTE - Axes &amp; Aces, the newest entertainment attraction coming to North Platte offers a family fun/group entertainment setting for everyone to enjoy. The new attraction will have golf simulators, axe throwing and pickle ball courts. The location also features a bar and will have a kitchen. As of now, the kitchen is not operational as parts to finish the kitchen will be coming in the next couple of weeks.

Axes &amp; Aces has hosted a few private events over the last few weeks with the North Platte Pickleball Club getting the chance to play on the brand new pickleball courts. During Halloween, Axes &amp; Aces hosted the Spooktacular Pickleball event which ended up being a 2-day event with how fast the first night filled up.&nbsp;

Axes &amp; Aces will be showing the Husker/Maryland game today at 11:00am and the bar is fully stocked and ready to go. The owners want to remind guests that there will be no food as the kitchen is still being worked on. Stearn's was in North Platte last Friday for a reception on the opening night of the gallery. Carlini discuses what other gallery's are currently on displayed at the PAC. The 2023 Holiday Passport is quickly approaching and the PAC is one of 20 attractions on this years passport. The PAC also always offers classes.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Annual St. Patrick's Church Christmas Boutique show is going to be held this Saturday, Nov. 11th at the St. Patrick's Church in North Platte. The event runs from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Starting at 11:00 am, a homemade lunch will be served for $5. Lunch will only be served until 1:00pm. There will be live music and door prizes throughout the day. The event is free to attend.&nbsp;

There will be 30 local vendors selling goodies at the St. Patrick's Christmas Boutique show. As of now, there is still room for 3 more vendors. If interested in becoming a vendor at the show, you can call the church at 308-532-0942. North Platte, Neb - This Friday, November 10th, TD Angus at Rishel Ranch will hold a Female only cattle auction at their ranch south of North Platte. According to TD Angus' Trey Wasserburger they will sell over 200 register females, and another 800 plus commercial females.

 Wasserburger said he thinks "it could be the greatest conglomerate of commercial females in the nation this year", with a full sister of Doc Ryan, the $525,000 bull sold from TD Angus at Rishel Ranch, being sold at lot 1 to kick off the day-long sale Friday.&nbsp;

Derek Beck from Eagle Media spoke with Wasserburger in depth about the upcoming sale and also spoke about progress at the Sustainable Beef Plant in North Platte that is currently under construction. LISTEN BELOW.

&nbsp;NORTH PLATTE - The Midwest Championship Fighting is returning to North Platte for their MCF 25: Salute To Veterans III fights November 11th at the D&amp;N Event Center. The fight card features 16 fights with 14 local fighters. Tickets are $30 and you can purchase tickets <a href="https://events.humanitix.com/mcf-25-salute-to-veterans-iii" target="_blank">here.</a>&nbsp;Doors open at 4:30pm with the flights scheduled for 6:00pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

McKeeman went 8-3-0 as an amateur fighter and finished off his amateur run winning his last 2 fights. The 2023-2024 campaign helps support those agencies throughout the year. With the holidays coming up, there are plenty of events like Operation Christmas Card on Nov. 6th, Veteran's Day Parade Nov. 11th are just a few of many events going on during the holiday season.&nbsp;

Post News Director sat down with North Platte native and Doane University Professor Eric Stearns about his opening reception going on tonight at the Prairie Art Center of his latest ceramic work in a show titled Ra•ku.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - Eric Stearns returns to North Platte and tonight at the Prairie Art Center is his opening reception of his latest ceramic work titled Ra•ku. The event goes from 5:30pm - 7:30pm at the PAC and you can chat with Stearns at the event. Check out the latest pieces of art Stearns has done.&nbsp;

Raku is a method of quickly firing ceramic artwork. Eric removes the pieces from the kiln at 1450° F, when they're still red hot. The art is given about a minute or two to cool before placing it in a metal container with a few sheets of newspaper. The paper ignites and smokes then the container is closed.&nbsp;

The reduction atmosphere affects the glaze colors, and the smoke turns unglazed parts of the clay black. The drastic thermal shock also produces cracking in the glaze —known as crazing since it is deliberate. The piece is removed from the container once cool and cleaned up to remove residual soot and ash, revealing the brilliant glazes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with local fighter Jareb Huerta about the upcoming Midwest Championship Fights going on November 11th at the D&amp;N Event Center in North Platte.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Midwest Championship Fighting is returning to North Platte for their MCF 25: Salute To Veterans III fights November 11th at the D&amp;N Event Center. The fight card features 16 fights with 14 local fighters. Tickets are $30 and you can purchase tickets&nbsp;<a href="https://events.humanitix.com/mcf-25-salute-to-veterans-iii" target="_blank">here.</a>&nbsp;Doors open at 4:30pm with the flights scheduled for 6:00pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Huerta, who is a North Platte native, MMA Amateur record is 3-1. He is currently the #8th ranked amateur in the state of Nebraska. Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Mid-Plains United Way Executive Director Haven Smith just about what's been going on since Smith's last visit in studio and give us an update of what's been going on with Mid-Plains United Way.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way has officially kicked off their 2023-2024 campaign. Mid-Plains United Way helps out many different agencies in the region. The 2023-2024 campaign helps support those agencies throughout the year. Also, Mid-Plains United Way is gearing up to have activities, one example is Christmas wrapping, is coming up. 

Also, there are many ways to get involved with Mid-Plains United Way and ways to donate. To learn more about this week's weekly chat with Smith, check out the podcast above.
