Sharolyn Hope “Shary” Boon was born October 11, 1945 at home on the school section in Southeast Dundy County, Nebraska to William Kermit and Opal (Lemon) Humphreys. She peacefully departed this life on November 25, 2023 at Papillion Manor in Papillion, Nebraska. She was 78 years of age.&nbsp;

Shary along with her four siblings grew up farming, raising cattle, feeding chickens and milking cows. Sometimes the girls would carry a hoe to protect themselves from the rattlesnakes when bringing in the cows. When school was in session they would stay in their grandfather’s basement in Max, Nebraska and return to the farm on the weekends. Shary was the youngest of the five children.

Shary graduated from Max High School as salutatorian with the class of 1963. She went on to post-graduate studies at McCook Community College where she met her first husband Jerry Jones. Their union was blessed with three children.

Following the birth of their third child, Shary and her family moved back to the family farm north of Parks, Nebraska. Shary shortly thereafter started a career selling Avon beauty products and then went on to a career with the United States Postal Service delivering mail on a rural route. In 1987, the family moved to Max, Nebraska where Shary became a Postmaster until her retirement in 2014.

Shary was a dedicated mother and grandmother, never missing an event, game or program. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Max Community Club. She enjoyed having a cold “Coca Cola”, eating ice cream and playing bingo. Shary loved to joke around with all of her friends and family at Papillion Manor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lyle and Levoine; and husband, Ralph Boon. Survivors include her children, Kirk (Paula) Jones of Cheyenne, WY, Kimberly Lynn (Mark) Sutherland of Cozad, and Kent Jones (Kris) of Cozad; 8 grandchildren, Mitchell (Jeanie), Joshua (Ricky), Brady (Victoria), Bryce Elizabeth (Trever), Bryton (Olivia), Gage, Mayla Lynn and Ryan; 6 great grandchildren, Cameron, Taylor, Ryan, Jackson, Khallen and Annabelle; her older brother and sister, Merril (Sylvia) Humphreys of Imperial, NE; and Ila Foster of Omaha, NE; as well as many other extended family and friends.

Celeste Nanette (Dryden) Bates, 58, of Hamlet, NE passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband and family on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Great Plains Health Hospital in North Platte, NE.&nbsp;

Celeste was born on November 25, 1965 in Fremont, NE, Dodge County, the daughter of Bernard Walter and Deloris Jean (Modlin) Dryden. &nbsp;

Celeste was married in 2008 to Jamie Ray Bates in Grand Island, NE. &nbsp;She loved singing, writing music, and playing the guitar. &nbsp;Celeste also enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband Jamie, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. &nbsp;She was an ordained minister in the Progressive Universal Life Church and was always known as the peacemaker in her family. &nbsp;She never met a stranger and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Celeste’s memory are her husband of 15 years, Jamie; mother and stepfather, Deloris and Marvin Brainard of Fremont; daughter, Alissa Fields; sons, Forrest Fields and Tobias Bates all of Hamlet; grandson, Octivias Paxson of Hamlet; a sister, Cheryl; a brother, Brad; and several nieces, nephews; cousins; and beloved friends.&nbsp;

Celeste Nanette Dryden-Bates (1965-2023)

Dixie G. Riley, 87, of Chappell passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Per her wishes, no formal services are being planned at this time, however a celebration of Dixie's life will be held in the spring.

Dixie Anna Guenin was born on April 27, 1936, to Walter H. and Hazel M. (Hedlund) Guenin. She was the youngest of 3, with older siblings Jacque and Burt. Dixie spent her childhood on the family farm in Garden County, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at Berea Lutheran Church.&nbsp;

She attended grade school in a one-room school house at District 5 in Garden County and then graduated from Deuel County High School with the class of 1953. Following high school, Dixie attended Colorado Women’s College where she received her Associate of Arts Degree on May 25, 1955.&nbsp;

After completing school, she returned home where she taught school at District #39 in Deuel County, when she happened to meet the love of her life, Willis Blaine Riley of Haxtun, CO. They were united in marriage on January 14, 1956, at The Methodist Church in Chappell.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Following “I Do,” Dixie became a dedicated business partner with Willis as they owned and operated Riley Truck Lines. Dixie was the dispatcher, keeping Willis and the trucks on the road.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Along with the trucks, she was a full-time mother to 5: Patrick Blaine, Susan Marie, John Walter, Allison Ann and Daniel Andrew. She would pack the kids into the station wagon and haul them all over to activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was a lifelong resident of the Chappell area and was very active in the community. Dixie was an active member at the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 10 years and was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. If there was ever a blizzard, Dixie was always one of the first responders with the Red Cross.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dixie worked as the librarian at Chappell Memorial Library and Art Gallery for 24 years, from February 1988 to April 2012. Dixie loved her job as the local librarian. She enjoyed all the activities and events, and all the cherished friendships.&nbsp;

For the past 15 years, Dixie has shared her life with her best friend and loyal companion, Zoey. The highlight of her day was taking Zoey on a walk around Lake Chappell. Dixie loved doing crosswords, water coloring, and reading books. She also loved to gather with the ladies for an afternoon of Bridge. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, supporting them in their various activities but most of all bringing them along for an afternoon at the library.&nbsp;&nbsp;

All who knew Dixie felt the spark of life she brought. She was tiny yet had so much personality. No matter where you saw her, she had a smile outlined in vibrant pink lipstick. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who will remain a warm memory in all our hearts.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is survived by her children: Susan Riley of Chappell, John and wife Sharon Riley of Sidney, Allison and husband Bob&nbsp;Cenkner&nbsp;of Lodgepole, Daniel and wife Christy Riley of Chappell; 5 grandchildren: Hannah Riley, Lane and wife Katelin Riley, Wyatt Riley, Vanessa and husband Matthew Wood, and Cooper Riley. 2 great grandchildren: Clayton John and Miles Guenin Riley. Niece, Nina and husband Kevin Custis and nephew Matthew Guenin.&nbsp;

She was proceeded in death by husband of 50 years, Willis, son Patrick and wife Jan Riley, parents Walter and Hazel, sister, Jacque Anderson, brother Burt&nbsp;and sister-in-law Virginia Guenin.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Robert “Bob” Osterman age 77 of Hyannis, NE passed away November 21, 2023, at the Highland Park Home in Alliance, NE.

Memorial Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held on June 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM Mountain Time at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Alliance, NE. Memorials are suggested to the Hyannis Fire Department.

Robert Vincent Osterman was born September 12, 1946, in Omaha, NE to Stanley “Fritz” and Catherine (Brennan) Osterman. Bob attended and graduated in 1964 from Kilgore High School. On April 1965, Bob enlisted in the US Army, and was Honorable discharged January 27, 1968.&nbsp; After the Army, Robert lived in California, Colorado, and then returned to Kilgore. He worked for Cherry County. Bob met Marvel Anthony; the couple was united in marriage on December 15, 1978.

Bob worked for the Hayward Ranch for 27 years before having to retire due to Parkinson Disease. The couple moved to Hyannis in 2005. Due to his declining health Bob moved to the Pioneer Memorial Care Home in Mullen and then to the Highland Parks Home in Alliance.

Bob enjoyed the outdoors fishing, hunting, and playing cards. He was active in the Catholic Church, American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents “Fritz” and Catherine, and a sister Rita.

Bob is survived by his wife Marvel of Hyannis, daughter Marie Osterman of Hyannis, granddaughter Neva Ducker (Ty Crabtree) of Norfolk, four siblings John Jack Osterman of Bentonville, AR, Joan Podsednik, of Kansas, Blane Osterman of Lincoln, and Bruce Osterman of Sibley, IA.

Edythe "Ann" Calkins, 88, of Grant, passed away peacefully November 24, 2023, at her home in Grant.

Ann was born May 4, 1935, at Lewellen, Nebraska, to Henry and Wilma Beckius. She attended school at Keystone and Ogallala.

Ann married the love of her life, Phillip Calkins, on December 28, 1972, at the Congregational Church in Grant. Together, they built a life filled with joy, wonderful memories, and six children: Teresa, Galen, Douglas, Randy, Kimberly, and Shelly.

Ann worked at TRW in Ogallala for several years before opening Ann's Lounge in downtown Grant, which she operated for nearly 40 years. Ann loved to travel, and after selling the restaurant in 2002, she enjoyed 'seeing the sights' much more often. She was an ardent supporter of her children and grandchildren and loved Grant Plainsmen athletics to the core. Ann was the type of grandma who loved being immersed in the activities of her family.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Wilma Beckius; daughter, Shelly Hatch; son-in-law, Kevin Hatch; her brothers, Donald Beckius and his wife Gloria, and Bernard Beckius; in-laws, Dayton Beckius, Ruth Troxel and Larry Troxel.

Survivors include her children, Teresa (Patrick) Swanson, Galen (Terry) Styskal, Douglas (Cynthia) Styskal, Randy (Brenda) Styskal, and Kimberly (Richard Underwood) Calkins; grandchildren, Shawna (Todd Keatley) Washburn, Sharon Washburn, Cheryl Goedert, Kyle (Megan) Hatch, Zachery (Corey Goodman) Styskal, Colby Styskal, Dustin Scholl, Alicia Rye, Jacob (Kimberly) Milner, Lance Milner, and Angela Robinson. Ann was also a proud great-grandmother to Chaz (Samantha) and Micah Cox, Cash Goedert, Tyler and Kersten Larson, Bryce Washburn, Kinsley and Knox Hatch, Ryder and Rhett Robinson, Troy Rager, Danykha and Richard Backus; along with four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Beckius; in-laws, Cheryl Beckius, and Lee (Carol) Calkins; special family friend, Erin Chrisman; along with many other relatives and friends.

Betty was born April 10, 1932, in the mining town of Bingham Canyon, UT. &nbsp;Her parents, R.J. and Donna Contratto, did their best to raise Betty and her siblings, Don and Dottie. &nbsp;Growing up, the family lived in the Knight Hotel and this gave Betty the chance to meet people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds; Big Helen was one of her favorites. &nbsp;Betty had a happy childhood full of adventures and mischief; "Every day was interesting and exciting" to Betty.

After grade school, Betty attended the consolidated junior high in the nearby town of Copperton. &nbsp;Public schooling was fine for Betty and she behaved fairly well but when it was time for high school, Betty was sent to a Catholic girl's school over the border in Idaho, leaving her friends, family and home behind. &nbsp;By the time she was 16, Betty met Clair Curtis (an older man of 19) and threw common sense to the wind as they ran off and eloped. &nbsp;Betty was determined to make the marriage work, but with three young children and years of struggles, it came to an end.

Betty eventually moved to Salt Lake City, UT, with the kids. &nbsp;She took a job at a Woolworth store, working in the coffee shop. &nbsp;She became manager of the fountain and lunch counter and liked her job (especially since she was "boss"). &nbsp;While working Betty was introduced to the new head store manager, Norman Herrick. &nbsp;Norm was just what Betty needed. &nbsp;He was divorced and had sons of his own so he knew the importance of family. &nbsp;In 1963, Norm and Betty married in an Idaho town. &nbsp;They had good times and lots of laughter for over 65 years.

Because of Norm's job with Woolworth's, the family moved to Montana then California until Norm wanted to be closer to his boys and family in Nebraska. &nbsp;He and Betty moved to North Platte where they settled and worked in various businesses. &nbsp;They bought Elletts Tastee Treat, remodeled it into "Betty's Tastee Treat" and operated it for many years. &nbsp;Betty later worked in the hospital kitchen. &nbsp;She never minded hard work and loved visiting with others. &nbsp;

Betty did not grow up with any meaningful experiences of worship but that too changed when she met Norm. &nbsp;He took Betty to church and there she discovered the real meaning of religion, answered the altar call, and was saved. &nbsp;She embraced salvation and the Christian way of life. &nbsp;Betty's faith gave her the strength to persevere, forgive, and to love. She was so proud to receive her G.E.D. at age 68.

Betty was a member of Grace Community Bible Church. &nbsp;She could always be recognized by her bright, colorful clothes and her joyous laugh. &nbsp;She will be remembered for her love of those around her and her positive, faithful spirit.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Contratto, and father and stepmother, R.J. and Clara Contratto; her brother, Don Contratto; sister, Dottie Warner; her daughter, Sharlene McLaughlin; stepchildren, J. Herrick, Steve Herrick and Zelda Herrick; and grandchildren, Brittany Sims and Katie Herrick.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Norman; her children, Daniel Curtis (Julie) of Columbus and Suzanne Anderson (Steven) of Salt Lake City; step daughter-in-law, Connie Herrick of Ft. Lupton, CO; 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, other family, and her special friends.&nbsp;

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Grace Community Bible Church. &nbsp;Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.&nbsp; 

Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and with family greeting from 4-6 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Herrick (1932-2023)

&nbsp; It is with great sadness we announce the death of well-known entertainer and singer- songwriter Jim Salestrom.&nbsp; Jim passed away on Wednesday, November 22 surrounded by loved ones at his home in Arvada, CO after a decade-long battle with cancer. He was 67 years old.

James Kevin Salestrom impacted countless lives throughout his long and successful musical career. To his family he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He was born February 20, 1956 in Omaha, NE to Virgil and Janice Salestrom. He is survived by his wife Pamela Dailer Salestrom, his daughter Casey, son-in-law Brandon Freeman and son James Salestrom Jr. of Nashville, TN. The true joy of his life was his grandson - Casey and Brandon's son, Thomas James. Jim also dearly loved his brothers Chuck and Tom Salestrom and their families.

To his fans Jim was a joy to listen to, a world class singer-songwriter and an Emmy winning performer. His love of music started at the early age of 7 when he got his first guitar. As he got older, he started writing songs, and formed several groups in Nebraska with his brother Chuck. The most notable of these was Timberline, which further launched his career.

He played guitar and sang in Dolly Parton's band over the course of decades. Her shows took him all over the world. Jim also had a close relationship with John Denver and performed with him throughout the years. He shared his love of life and positive spirit through his music. He worked with countless wonderful musicians and performed for 5 U.S. Presidents, and numerous members of the U.S. Supreme Court.

He treated everyone with love and respect. Jim was known for his humor, infectious smile, positive outlook on life and a gift to make everyone feel special. He sang like an angel, and luckily his music will endure long past his lifetime. In one of his final notes Jim said, "I am eternally grateful for all of you, and it's not "goodbye", it's just "see you later". James "Jim" Salestrom (1956-2023)

AC Rowan, age 88, of Lamar, CO passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Community Hospital in McCook, NE.

AC was born July 23, 1935 in Las Animas, CO to parents Archie Cyde and Ada (Barnes) Rowan. He was one of two children.&nbsp; Following high school, AC attended both Lamar Community College and Colorado State University on livestock judging scholarships.

AC was a member of the Army National Guard, completing six months basic training in Arkansas where he proudly bought his first good baseball glove, which he used throughout his career and kept near him until the end of his life. He traveled the country playing fastpitch softball with his best friends and was eventually inducted into the Colorado Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame. AC spent numerous years coaching youth baseball and traveled many miles taking his teams from one end of the state to the other. He also refereed high school basketball for many years.

Though farming and raising sheep were his main vocation, AC also worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier, a job he dearly loved. He especially enjoyed visiting with people he delivered mail to. For many years, AC rang bells for the Salvation Army Christmas Campaign. He always enjoyed wearing funny hats to entertain the kids that would come by and put money in the kettle.

AC’s main love with his family. On November 20, 1960, he married the love of his life, Bonnie (Bowles) Rowan in Wiley, CO. The couple was blessed with two children. He and Bonnie traveled together and worked together on the farm. He also greatly enjoyed his three grandkids.

Many hours were spent on batting practice with all three grandkids. There was nothing he wouldn’t do or any distance too far to take them to events or to travel to watch them participate. He loved being around them and making them laugh, which he was doing up until his final days.

AC joined Bonnie in Heaven on their 64th wedding anniversary, so they never spent one apart.

AC was preceded in death by his parents; wife Bonnie Rowan; grandson, Xander Sharpe Rowan and several brother- and sister- in laws.

Those left to celebrate her life include his son, Jay Rowan of Lamar; daughter, Sheila (Colt) Hosick of McCook, NE; daughter in law, Monette Sutphin of Lamar, CO; sister, Zanetta Kelley of Houston, TX; sister in law Lorene Thompson of Lamar, CO; two grandchildren, Macy Elway Rowan and Canyon River Hosick; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family; and lifelong friends.

&nbsp; Kody Garonn Huff, of Hamlet, NE was born on September 05, 1987 in Colby, Kansas to James Huff and Carol Macklin. Kody passed away at his residence on November 12, 2023.

Kody grew up in Colby and from the moment his life began, he captured attention. In his beginning years, Kody was, no doubt, smart. He learned to speak at an early and age and never did stop talking.

Kody was eager to learn and enjoyed teaching others. So much so, he was regularly placed into gifted and talented programs in school, to occupy his time and his mind. When he finished his work, he would gracefully help others get their work done. Kody was the life of the party, a "social butterfly" who enjoyed being around people and getting to know people. It was not uncommon for the family to be having a planned night in with nothing to do. Kody would burst through the door and immediately cure any boredom.

Kody loved listening to music of all kinds from rap to country. Eminem, Jelly Roll, and 2 Pac were some of his favorites. As he got older, he did manage to change some of his taste to the likings of Lynard Skyward and C.C.R.

Most recently, Kody was working as an apprentice electrician for Pivot Electrical with ambitions of one day earning his journeyman. He had a tremendous heart and genuinely cared for those who cared back for him. If you needed Kody, he was there for you, no questions.

Kody is survived by his parents, Carol Mackin and James Huff; his daughters, Jaycelia Perry, Kaycelynn Perry, and Layceiara Perry; brothers, Boone Huff and Shawn Macklin; Maternal grandparents, Richard and Marilyn Robbins;; his niece, Lilly Huff and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his step father, Merle Macklin Jr.; paternal grandparents, William and Alverna Huff brothers, Shane Huff and Kuper Jones; and Aunt, Joyce Kuper.

Kody Garonn Huff (1987-2023)

Claire Uerling (aka Clara B. Uerling), age 92, of Indianola, NE passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Claire was born May 2, 1931 at the family home in St. Ann, Frontier County, Nebraska to parents Joseph Christ Anderjaska and Lucy Julia (McCracken) Anderjaska. Growing up, Claire went to high school in McCook. Following high school Claire attended McCook Junior College, worked at Ma Bell and saved money to go to the University of Nebraska for one year which was required for her teaching certificate. At UNL Claire joined the pep club and made up the yell, “Go Big Red” along with helping to write their pep songs like “Good Old Nebraska U.” Claire majored in home economics at the University of Nebraska. She entered suits she had designed in the Nebraska State Fair where she earned purple ribbons in sewing and modeling. Claire was a certificated teacher and taught school for a year. She met Robert William Uerling at a local dance and fell in love. She said Robert was pleasant, humble, and handsome. Claire said Bob didn’t brag or need to have a fancy car. They were married June 10, 1952 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayes Center, NE. Over the years, the couple made their home in both rural McCook and rural Indianola. Claire and her family built their home outside of Indianola where they continued to farm and feed cattle. Claire and Bob were blessed with seven children.

Claire was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society. Claire was a talented artist, avid seamstress, baker of delicious cinnamon rolls, bread, homemade noodles, and desserts such as fudge, and fondant. She loved gardening and canning. Claire was a member of the Red Willow Card Club, leader of the local 4-H club called Try &amp; Do, which she started for her children whom she taught a variety of subjects such as cooking, sewing, art, entomology, and first aid. Claire was a former president and a member of the McCook Art Guild for many years. Claire and Robert also enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends and see the world. Among their favorite locations were Alaska and Europe. Claire enjoyed spending summer days at the lake boating and skiing with their children and their friends or socializing at family picnics.

Claire was preceded in death by her husband in 2016, her parents; brothers Conrad, Jerry, Bernard, Arnold, and sister, Joan.

Uerling), age 92, of Indianola, NE passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska.Claire was born May 2, 1931 at the family home in St. Ann, Frontier County, Nebraska to parents Joseph Christ Anderjaska and Lucy Julia (McCracken) Anderjaska. Growing up, Claire went to high school in McCook. Following high school Claire attended McCook Junior College, worked at Ma Bell and saved money to go to the University of Nebraska for one year which was required for her teaching certificate. At UNL Claire joined the pep club and made up the yell, “Go Big Red” along with helping to write their pep songs like “Good Old Nebraska U.” Claire majored in home economics at the University of Nebraska. She entered suits she had designed in the Nebraska State Fair where she earned purple ribbons in sewing and modeling. Claire was a certificated teacher and taught school for a year. She met Robert William Uerling at a local dance and fell in love. She said Robert was pleasant, humble, and handsome. Claire said Bob didn’t brag or need to have a fancy car. They were married June 10, 1952 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayes Center, NE. Over the years, the couple made their home in both rural McCook and rural Indianola. Claire and her family built their home outside of Indianola where they continued to farm and feed cattle. Claire and Bob were blessed with seven children.Claire was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society. Claire was a talented artist, avid seamstress, baker of delicious cinnamon rolls, bread, homemade noodles, and desserts such as fudge, and fondant. She loved gardening and canning. Claire was a member of the Red Willow Card Club, leader of the local 4-H club called Try &amp; Do, which she started for her children whom she taught a variety of subjects such as cooking, sewing, art, entomology, and first aid. Claire was a former president and a member of the McCook Art Guild for many years. Claire and Robert also enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends and see the world. Among their favorite locations were Alaska and Europe. Timothy Jimenez, 69, of Ogallala, passed away on November 18, 2023, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Tim was born January 24, 1954 at Ogallala, Nebraska to Pete and Fanny (Ortega) Jimenez.

On May 1, 1971, Tim married Barbara Tjaden at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala. Their union was blessed with two daughters: Missy and Lori. The couple would make their home in Ogallala, where Tim worked at CHS Grainland for many years as the location manager. He retired as the general manager at FCA in 2015 after nearly 40 years.

Memorials are suggested to the Perkins County Hospital and the Ogallala Volunteer Fire and Rescue in memory of Tim.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Stephen Jimenez.

Diane Lynne Scollin, 67 of North Platte, NE went to be home with her Lord on November 16, 2023 after a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born to Bernie and Lois Derby at Millard, Nebraska on July 26, 1956.

In January of 1972 the family moved to North Platte and Diane graduated from North Platte High School in 1974 and then attended Mid Plains Community College. In April of 1984 she married her soul mate Jim Scollin from Paxton. Diane worked for NPPD at Gerald Gentleman Station from 1980 until 1994. In 1994 she partnered with Allen Miles at Alive Outside until her retirement.

Diane loved to quilt, cruise and travel. Her passion was spending time with her grandchildren as often as possible.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents; in laws; Eugene and Marie Scollin; a sister- in- law and brother- in- law, Jean and Leroy Follis; and a nephew Adam TenEyck.

&nbsp; Roger Thomas Howard was born on July 22, 1953, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Thomas and Karolyn (Stute) Howard. He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman, Nebraska. Roger grew up in Max, Nebraska and graduated from Benkelman High School in 1971. After high school, Roger attended an airline ticketing school in Miami, Florida. He then returned to Max to begin a construction career in the tri-state area. Roger’s first marriage blessed him with two daughters: Heather and Megan. They lived on the family farm just east of Max. His career moved him to Ft. Collins, Colorado, to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands and finally to North Platte, Nebraska, where he worked as a general contractor. Roger and Regina added two sons, Cody and Ryan, to complete their family. They were united in marriage on March 1, 2019. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, golfing with friends and time spent tending to his garden and flowers. His love of golf took him to many Central and Southwest Nebraska golf courses. Daily phone calls with his brother Kevin were an important part of his day. He was blessed with a talent for carpentry and shared that with many of his customers. Roger worked for Select Tile &amp; Carpet in North Platte before retiring to Harlingen, Texas, with wife Regina. His passion for golf continued at many courses in South Texas.

Roger departed this life on November 13, 2023, in Harlingen, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richie Howard. Roger Thomas Howard (1953-2023)

Tyrone C. Farmer, 82, of rural Brule, passed away at his home south of town on November 13, 2023.

Ty was born in Big Springs, Nebraska, on January 5, 1941, to Lloyd James and Augusta "Minnie" Marie (Meyer) Farmer. His life was marked by a remarkable work ethic and a profound transformation of faith.

Ty excelled as a welder, a craft he honed over many years. His hands, large and calloused from years of hard work, were a testament to his dedication and skill in his trade. Ty also spent a good amount of time farming and working in the gas industry. No matter what Ty was doing, from welding, driving a truck, closing a well, or sitting on a swather, he was committed to the task at hand.

Ty was known for his rugged exterior, which concealed a deeply loving and endearing nature. His stories to his friends often began with his signature phrase, "Now I ain't lying..." Despite his outward gruffness, those who knew him, experienced his genuine warmth and willingness to help anyone in need.

A highlight of Ty's life was his whirlwind romance with Patricia Marie Hitchcock. They married on July 20, 1978, after having known each other for a week. Their chance meeting in Lemoyne blossomed into a lifelong partnership. Together, they made their home in Brule, where they enjoyed raising miniature horses.

Ty had a passion for firearms and loved to go shooting. As a result, one of Ty's other great hobbies was reloading ammunition.

Later in life, Ty experienced a profound conversion and chose to be baptized and embrace faith in Christ. With this decision came a significant transformation, enriching his life and relationships in meaningful ways.

Ty was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia in 2021, his son James in 2021, his son-in-law Richard Brewster, and his brothers Larry and Gary Farmer.

Survivors include his children: Paul Farmer of Letcher, SD, Jennifer (Scott) Hovarter of Denver, CO, Samantha Farmer of Brule, Connie (Tim) Barrett of North Platte, Laurie (Scott) Cooper of Bradford, IA, and daughter-in-law Anna Scollard of Apple Valley, CA. Tyrone Farmer (1941-2023)

Andy&nbsp;L. Olson, longtime local business owner and cattleman of Hershey, died November 14, 2023, at the age of 83.

Andy was born April 30, 1940, to George and Berdeen Olson of Hershey. &nbsp;He grew up and attended school in Hershey, graduating from Hershey High School in 1958, then attended Kearney State Teachers College. &nbsp;

While in college Andy met the love of his life, Marcia Alberts. &nbsp;They were united in marriage on June 10, 1962, and made their home in Hershey. &nbsp;Marcia and Andy were blessed with three children: Kirk, Kim and Kendra, and 61 years of marriage.

Strong work ethics began early for Andy as he helped his grandparents and parents. &nbsp;He worked with his father, George, in the Olson Fertilizer Company and did some construction work where he helped in the building of Hershey Public School.&nbsp;

Andy's love for farming and ranching comes from his father and his Grandpa Andrew. &nbsp;He began his business career in 1954 with the purchase of three mares which led to his long career of raising Lazy U Quarter Horses. &nbsp;By 1964 he and his father incorporated Olson Farms; custom cattle feeding was added to the operation in 1986. &nbsp;

Andy was a progressive cattle feeder. &nbsp;He kept up with his thoughts and with the industry; he was always open to trying new ideas. &nbsp;Conservation was also a priority as he implemented numerous conservation practices on his operation and he supported the schools, shelters and food pantries in the area with beef.

Some of his greatest moments were in sales barns. &nbsp;He always attended the Tuesday sale and loved a horse sale. &nbsp;What Andy learned from his grandparents, parents, and his own experiences, he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. &nbsp;Andy wanted people to achieve their dreams and believed in supporting the youth in local and national agriculture programs. &nbsp;

He was active in the Hershey community and belonged to Maria Lutheran Church. &nbsp;Among his awards and recognitions, Andy was named honorary member of the Paxton FFA Chapter; served as Hershey Fall Festival Parade Marshal; received the North Platte Business of the Year award; was founding member of the Hershey Lions Club; and served as president of Maria Lutheran Church.

Andy was a family man and a man of faith. &nbsp;He was also very good at having fun with his close friends. &nbsp;His family and friends benefited from his sophisticated problem solving skills, no matter if it was business or ......&nbsp; &nbsp;Andy had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. &nbsp;He leaves a lasting legacy and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Berdeen and George Olson, and sister, Janelle Emert.

Andy is survived by his wife, Marcia; childrenand their spouses, Kirk and Tracy Olson of North Platte, Kim and Keith Luttrell of Kearney, and Kendra and Paul Strommen of Sidney; grandchildren and their spouses, Dayna and Trey Wasserburger, Caitlyn and Patrick Jacobson and Jayde and Luke Winkelbauer; great-grandchildren, Westyn, Gentry, Gwyn and Wacey; his sister, Georgena and her husband, Alan Arnett of Loveland, CO; as well as many other family and his friends.

Celebration of Andy's Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 17, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte with Pastor Wade Hudson officiating. &nbsp;Family will be receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Maria Lutheran Church in Hershey. &nbsp;A private family inurnment will be at a later date in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Andy Olson (1940-2023)

John L. Volk, 33, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away at his home surrounded by family and loved ones after fighting a brave battle with cancer.

He was born on August 21, 1990, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington to Charles J. and Beverly J. (Parker) Volk. John attended Cozad Public Schools where he was a proud Haymaker. He loved attending basketball games and softball games, especially when his sister played.

John had a smile that would light up any room and it was easy for anyone to fall in love with him. John loved life, he loved being out at the family farm watching trains, and tractors during planting and harvest. John also loved watching sports, especially his Huskers. John loved his family and got so much joy from spending time with them. He was a beloved son, brother, and uncle who is going to be missed so deeply.

John is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence “Doc” and Ila Volk, Glen Robert and Hazel Parker; and cousins, Jeffery Houlden and Billy Brittain.

Survivors include his parents, Charles and Beverly of Cozad; his sister, Jenny of Kearney; nephew, Bentley and niece, Maci of Kearney; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Robert Litzenberger, officiating. The service will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.

John L. Volk (1990-2023)

Carolyn Harmonson-Ross passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Carolyn was born on July 30, 1942, in Oshkosh to Ralph and Irene Harmonson.&nbsp; In 1949 her family relocated to Ogallala where she attended school and graduated from Ogallala High School in 1960.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While growing up, Carolyn and her family were very involved in the Ogallala Rodeo and Carolyn was named Nebraska State High School Rodeo Queen in 1960.&nbsp; Following high school, she attended Colorado State College in Greeley, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1962, Carolyn married Robin Rasmussen of North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; Two daughters were born of that union: Brenda and Lisa.&nbsp; While living in Omaha, Carolyn served the community through her involvement with Jaycees and March of Dimes.&nbsp; Carolyn served on the board of the Omaha chapter of Jaycees.&nbsp;&nbsp;Carolyn and her daughters relocated to Ogallala in 1977 where she worked with her parents at The Linen Shop and Sewing Machine Center.&nbsp; She was also involved in the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; In 1978, Carolyn suffered a brain aneurysm and a massive stroke.&nbsp; She spent many months at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver.&nbsp; Upon her return to Ogallala, her parents and the community wrapped support around Carolyn and her daughters.&nbsp; In her determination, Carolyn continued to persevere through multiple physical and health challenges throughout her life.&nbsp;&nbsp;Carolyn had such a kind heart. Her love of others, smile, and sense of humor were blessings to so many.&nbsp; She brought joy and laughter to those who knew her.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Carolyn is survived by her daughters Brenda (Tony) Ketcham, of Ogallala; Lisa (Jeff) Morris of Colorado, and her four grandchildren, Abby (Travis) Brannan of Oregon, Maddie Ketcham of Ogallala, Ellie and Carson Morris of Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;She is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Irene Harmonson.

Carolyn K Harmonson-Ross (1942-2023)

Darlene Margaret (Gordan) Elder, 85 of Aurora, NE (formerly of Ogallala) died Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora, NE.

Darlene was born March 15, 1938, in Roscoe, NE to Alfred and Enola (Smith) Gordon. She attended school in Roscoe and graduated from Ogallala, NE in 1955.

Darlene was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in St. John’s Church in rural Ogallala. On July 17, 1956, Darlene married Ira Dale Elder at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Alexandria, VA for three years while Dale served in the U.S. Army. During that time their son Barry Dale, was born in 1958. In 1959, the Elders moved back to Nebraska and Darlene worked for Dr. Schindler, DDS, in Ogallala. In 1962 a daughter Debra Jean was born and in 1963 a daughter Cheri Lynn was born to Dale and Darlene.

In 1973 the Elder family moved to Aurora, NE. Darlene began working for James B. Anderson, DDS. Darlene liked to do craft work in her spare time. She also enjoyed camping and taking trips with her family, it filled her summer months along with raising garden flowers. Darlene enjoyed country and gospel singing and country dancing with Dale. Dale and Darling were high school sweethearts and celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 2023. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life.

Preceding Darlene in death are her parents, son Barry Dale Elder, and her sisters Pauline Armknecht, Naomi Mailand, Aileen Gordon, and brothers Darrell Gordon, Clifford Gordon, John Gordon, and Alfred Gordon. &nbsp;

Surviving family includes her husband Dale of Aurora, NE; her daughters Debra (Wayne) Wehmeier, of Hampton, NE and Cheri (Matthew) Keyes of Gretna, NE. Grandchildren, Jari Ann (Thomas) Dunekacke of Auburn, NE, Jordan Wehmeier, of Omaha, NE, Jacob Keyes of Phoenix, AZ and Rachel Keyes of Elkhorn, NE, Katherine Elder of Des Moines, IA; and two great-grandsons, Parker and Dylan Dunekacke. Darlene’s surviving sisters include Evelyn Frosh, Shirley Ziegler, JoAnn (Jerry) Perlinger, and Marilyn (Roger) Dahlkoetter.

Visitation will be Friday, November 17th, 2023 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Southeast of Ogallala.

Darlene M Elder (1938-2023)

A note to my dad...These are by far the most difficult words I have ever written. Your presence in my life has been the most profound of anyone I've ever known and your loss will be the same. I will forever be proud to call myself your daughter. The simple lessons that you taught me in life will always be with me. I promise I'll always work hard to take care of Mom just as you did. You worked so hard...go rest now.

Jerry L Newkirk, 83 of Hershey, Nebraska passed away in his home Saturday, November 11th, 2023.&nbsp; Jerry was born September 7th, 1940 in Lewellen, Nebraska where he and his brothers were raised on a farm/ranch operation.

In the fall of 1962 Jerry met his bride to be, Cheri Briggs, and they were wed just 10 days later. Their union produced 2 children. A son Tony and daughter Cyndi.&nbsp; Although Jerry spent a good share of his life farming, he also spent many hours behind the wheel of a semi, and even owned a small dairy at one point. He eventually brought his family back to Lewellen to farm with his dad. In 1985 Jerry and Cheri made the move to Imperial, Ne where they would reside for 30 years until Jerry officially retired. They made a final move to Hershey, Nebraska to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.&nbsp; Jerry never lost his love for farming and could often be found tinkering with a tractor in his yard, working in his garden, or sitting on the front porch watching the neighbors work the soil. &nbsp;His little dog Chloe always at his side.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Effie, step mother, Elizabeth; parents- in-law, Charles and Eula; brothers, Harvey and Harry; brother-in-law, Dan; son, Tony; grandchildren, Corey and Casey; and great grandson, Esiah.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Cheri; daughter Cyndi; grandchildren, Jazmin, Jon, Jackson, Joey, Amelia and Seaira; great grandchildren, Ethan, Emelio, Javier, Ki'auna, Dominique, Aiyana, and Skylynn. &nbsp;Along with many other family members and friends.

Your presence in my life has been the most profound of anyone I've ever known and your loss will be the same. I will forever be proud to call myself your daughter. The simple lessons that you taught me in life will always be with me. I promise I'll always work hard to take care of Mom just as you did. You worked so hard...go rest now.Jerry L Newkirk, 83 of Hershey, Nebraska passed away in his home Saturday, November 11th, 2023.&nbsp; Jerry was born September 7th, 1940 in Lewellen, Nebraska where he and his brothers were raised on a farm/ranch operation.In the fall of 1962 Jerry met his bride to be, Cheri Briggs, and they were wed just 10 days later. Their union produced 2 children. A son Tony and daughter Cyndi.&nbsp; Although Jerry spent a good share of his life farming, he also spent many hours behind the wheel of a semi, and even owned a small dairy at one point. He eventually brought his family back to Lewellen to farm with his dad. In 1985 Jerry and Cheri made the move to Imperial, Ne where they would reside for 30 years until Jerry officially retired. They made a final move to Hershey, Nebraska to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.&nbsp; Jerry never lost his love for farming and could often be found tinkering with a tractor in his yard, working in his garden, or sitting on the front porch watching the neighbors work the soil. &nbsp;His little dog Chloe always at his side.Memorials are suggested to the family.Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Effie, step mother, Elizabeth; parents- in-law, Charles and Eula; brothers, Harvey and Harry; brother-in-law, Dan; son, Tony; grandchildren, Corey and Casey; and great grandson, Esiah.He is survived by his wife of 61 years Cheri; daughter Cyndi; grandchildren, Jazmin, Jon, Jackson, Joey, Amelia and Seaira; great grandchildren, Ethan, Emelio, Javier, Ki'auna, Dominique, Aiyana, and Skylynn. &nbsp;Along with many other family members and friends.Cremation was chosen.&nbsp;&nbsp;Joint Memorial Service for Jerry and Cheryl will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, April 19, 2024 at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home. Book signing will be 9-5, Thursday, April 18 at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home who is in charge of assisting the family.
