WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) voted in favor of the Health Care Freedom for Patients Act, which will help lower the cost of health care and give patients the resources to control their own health care decisions.“Today I voted for the Health Care Freedom for Patients Act to lower costs by putting money directly into Americans’ pockets. Senate Democrats refused to join us, choosing to preserve a failed system that sends billions in taxpayer dollars to insurance companies, not the people. These expanded COVID-era Obamacare subsidies were meant for a pandemic that ended years ago; continuing them without reform is unacceptable. Federal support should go directly to families — not enrich insurance companies. My priority is giving Americans the freedom to choose the care that works best for them, and I urge Democrats to meet us at the table to get this done,” Fischer said.Health Care Freedom for Patients Act:

  1. Sends money to patients, not insurance companies;
  2. Lowers insurance premiums by funding cost-sharing reduction (CSR) payments;
  3. Empowers Americans to choose the insurance plan that fits their needs by increasing access to low-cost catastrophic plans; and
  4. Prevents illegal immigrants from accessing Medicaid by requiring states to verify citizenship and immigration status before coverage.
