Wednesday night's Powerball® drawing offers players a chance to win an estimated $835 million jackpot, the tenth-largest prize in game history. The jackpot has an estimated cash value of $357.9 million, according to a media release from the The Multi-State Lottery Association.

“When the jackpot reaches this level, players take notice, and we’ve seen that excitement reflected in ticket sales over the past week,” said Stephen Durrell, Powerball Product Group Chair and Kansas Lottery Executive Director. “Every ticket sold helps grow the jackpot while also generating funding for important public programs and services in local communities.”

The Powerball jackpot was last won on Aug. 12, when a single ticket sold in Illinois captured a $1.04 billion grand prize. Since then, there have been 35 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner, making tonight’s drawing the 36th in the current jackpot cycle. At an estimated $835 million, the jackpot ranks as the second-largest grand prize offered so far this year, trailing only the $1.04 billion prize won on Aug. 12.

If a player from a participating U.S. lottery wins the jackpot, they may choose to receive the prize as an annuity, paid in 30 increasing payments over 29 years, or as a one-time lump-sum payment. Both prize options are before taxes.

This marks the first jackpot cycle in which players in the United Kingdom have participated from the beginning of the run, with every ticket sold contributing equally to jackpot growth.

If a player in the UK wins the jackpot, the cash value of the Powerball jackpot will be transferred to the United Kingdom and paid to the winner over 30 years through The UK National Lottery.

Powerball® tickets cost $2 per play. Powerball is currently sold in 45 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom.

More than half of every $2 Powerball ticket purchase remains in the jurisdiction where it is sold, helping fund public programs and services that benefit local communities. Since 1992, Powerball has generated an estimated $38 billion for good causes, including education and scholarships, veteran services, parks and recreation, and more. Powerball drawings are performed live every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET from the Powerball draw studio in Florida.

The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
