LINCOLN, Neb. — Twenty-two people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways during August, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

The fatalities occurred in 19 separate crashes. Thirteen of the 15 vehicle occupants who died were not wearing seatbelts, while only two were buckled in.

Fifteen of the deaths happened in rural areas. Two fatalities occurred on the interstate, 11 on other highways, and nine on local roads. The victims included three pedestrians and four motorcyclists.
