The Nebraska Public Service Commission is reminding eligible Black Hills Energy customers that they have one week left to select a natural gas supplier through the Nebraska Choice Gas Program.
The deadline to choose a supplier is April 22. The program is available to residential and commercial customers in Black Hills Energy’s Rate Area 5 service territory, which covers roughly the western two-thirds of Nebraska.
Customers who participate can select an independent supplier to provide their natural gas for the upcoming program year, with options that may offer different pricing or contract terms. Those who do not make a selection by the deadline will be assigned a supplier.
The program does not apply to Black Hills customers in eastern Nebraska or to customers served by other natural gas utilities. Anyone unsure about their eligibility is encouraged to contact Black Hills Energy.
The Choice Gas Program allows customers to review multiple supplier options each year and choose a plan that fits their needs. For 2026, eight suppliers are participating in the program. Black Hills Energy will continue to deliver the gas, maintain infrastructure, handle billing, and respond to emergencies.
In 2025, nearly 81,000 customers were eligible for the program, with about 54% making an active selection.
More information about the program is available through the Nebraska Public Service Commission.
