
Lincoln, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol is proud to announce the promotion of two NSP leaders to the ranks of Major and Lieutenant.
- Capt. Andy Ecklund has been promoted to Major of the Eastern Operations Division.
- Sgt. Peter Rutherford has been promoted to Lieutenant of the Technical Crimes and National Information Analysis Center
“Major Ecklund and Lieutenant Rutherford have demonstrated throughout their careers that they are exceptional leaders who embody our commitment to a people-first culture,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “They understand that strong leadership begins with clear vision, purposeful goals, and a dedication to developing others for success. I am confident they will continue to lead with integrity, invest in those they serve alongside, and strengthen our organization for the future.”
Major Ecklund is a 19-year veteran of the Nebraska State Patrol. He most recently served as the Director of Training at the Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy in Grand Island, Nebraska. Throughout his career, he has served as a dedicated Patrol Sergeant and Lieutenant while working as a Drug Recognition Expert and member of the SWAT Unit. Major Ecklund is a graduate of the University of Nebraska. During his career, he pursued higher education and graduated from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command as well as the University of Virginia National Criminal Justice Command College.
Lieutenant Rutherford is a 14-year veteran of the Nebraska State Patrol. He most recently served as the Tech Crimes Unit Sergeant for the last four years. Throughout his career, he has served in Carrier Enforcement and Criminal Investigations before transferring into the Technical Crimes Unit shortly after its formation. He has also held various specialized roles, such as Mobile Field Force, ICAC, and computer forensics. We wish them both continued success and safety.
