LINCOLN, Neb. -&nbsp;The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team swept 12th-ranked and fifth-seeded Georgia Tech Thursday afternoon in a third-round NCAA Tournament match in front of 8,580 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

With the win, the Huskers (31-1) advanced to an NCAA Regional Final for the 11th time in the last 12 years. Nebraska will play the winner of No. 2 seed Kentucky and No. 3 seed Arkansas, on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Devaney Center.&nbsp;

Nebraska was impressive and efficient in posting its third sweep in three postseason matches. The Huskers hit .326 in the match, just the third time this season that a Georgia Tech opponent hit .300 or better. While Nebraska's offense was clicking with 37 kills and only nine errors, the Husker defense held the Yellow Jackets to a .019 attack percentage. Georgia Tech had 28 attack errors while being held to a season-low hitting percentage.

Merritt Beason paced the Huskers with 11 kills on only 23 swings, hitting .435 in the match. Ally Batenhorst added 10 kills on 25 swings. Andi Jackson had four kills on six error-free swings while posting a match-high five blocks. Bekka Allick added four blocks and totaled six kills on 11 swings. Lexi Rodriguez had a match-high 12 digs, while Bergen Reilly added 10 digs to go along with 30 assists and three blocks.

Tamara Otene led Georgia Tech (24-7) with nine kills, while Bianca Bertolino had eight kills.

Set 1:&nbsp;Allick and Batenhorst each had two early kills as the Huskers went up 5-1. Two more kills by Batenhorst had the Huskers up 10-3, and Murray put down a pair of kills as the Huskers built the lead to eight at 15-7. Beason had two kills and an ace, and Jackson had a block with Batenhorst and a kill, and the Huskers extended their advantage to 21-10. Nebraska closed out the set, 25-11, hitting .281 to -.111 for Georgia Tech.&nbsp;

Set 2:&nbsp;Beason started the set with a solo block, and Murray had two kills to help NU go up 6-1. Another solo block by Beason between Batenhorst kills made it 9-5. Jackson teamed up with Reilly for a block, and then Jackson tallied a kill for a 12-7 advantage. The Yellow Jackets put together a 3-0 spurt to cut it to 14-12, but Beason terminated a kill and Jackson and Batenhorst combined for a block before Jackson put down a kill and a 17-12 lead. A kill by Beason and block by Jackson and Murray pushed the lead to 20-14. The Huskers earned a set point at 24-16 on a double block from Beason and Allick, forcing a Georgia Tech timeout. Following the timeout, a Murray kill gave Nebraska a 2-0 lead.

Set 3:&nbsp;Nebraska took an 8-6 lead after a block by Jackson and Reilly, but the Yellow Jackets fought back to take a 13-11 lead. Beason pounded her seventh kill, and Georgia Tech hit long before Batenhorst hammered down an overpass for a 14-13 advantage, and the Huskers led 15-14 at the media timeout after another Beason kill. The Yellow Jackets answered to take a 17-16 lead, but a block by Allick and Reilly tied it 18-18. With the score tied 19-19, Beason put down a kill after a scramble at the net, and the AVCA Region Player of the Year tipped a kill to the floor to make it 21-19. Batenhorst added a kill on Murray's service run for a 22-19 advantage, and Murray then served an ace off the top of the net, and Allick and Beason posted a block for match point, 24-19. The Supernovas will return to Omaha in early January as the team looks to finalize&nbsp;a 14-person roster for the inaugural season of the Pro Volleyball Federation beginning with the league’s first-ever match on January&nbsp;24, 2024,&nbsp;against&nbsp;the Atlanta Vibe. &nbsp;

This is Neff's first such honor while Ferguson was a 2022 third-team pick playing for Northwest Missouri.I n the recently completed season, Ferguson led the&nbsp;Lopers&nbsp;in kills (328), was tied for the lead in service aces (35), ranked third in both kills per set (2.83) and blocks (75) and posted a .944 serve receiving percentage. Reaching the 1,000 career kill mark, she also hit .273, averaged 3.03 digs per set had 10 double doubles.

Neff had the same number of double doubles while directing an offense that hit .264 and averaged 14.2 kps. In her second year as a starter, she came in at 11.4 assists, 2.4 digs, 0.8 kills, 0.6 blocks and 0.3 aces per set. Hitting a team-best .308, Neff was the only&nbsp;Loper&nbsp;to appear in all 117 sets and is now up to 2,666 career assists.

UNK went 29-6 (16-4 MIAA), reaching the NCAA Tournament for a 24th&nbsp;consecutive year and posting a perfect 12-0 home record.

On Wednesday, the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) announced the women’s finalists for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy, with Husker senior Eleanor Dale one of three selected by NCAA Division I women’s soccer coaches.&nbsp;

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Most recently, Michelle Cooper (Duke) received the award for her outstanding intercollegiate performance last season.

The other two 2023 finalists joining Dale are Florida State’s midfielder Onyi Echegini of England and BYU’s forward Brecken Mozingo of Utah. The 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 5, 2024, to formally announce this year’s winner.&nbsp;

A native of Billingham, England, Dale turned in one of the best overall seasons in NCAA Division I soccer in 2023 with 61 points, 28 goals and five assists. She leads the country in total goals and now ranks third in Big Ten history in single-season goals and is just the fourth player in Big Ten history to total 60 points in a season.

In an outstanding senior season, Dale scored her nation-leading 27th and 28th goals in the third-round of the NCAA Tournament to post her 11th multi-goal match of the season, while helping Nebraska (17-4-3) to the third Elite Eight appearance in program history. With her total goals, she broke the Nebraska record for goals in a season with Kim Engesser, who previously held the record with 27 goals in 1998. Additionally, she is tied for first in the Husker record books in game-winning goals and her total shots this season place her at the top of the list.

The top-ranked Nebraska volleyball team will host an NCAA Regional in Lincoln for the first time since 2016 when the Huskers welcome No. 12 Georgia Tech to the Bob Devaney Sports Center for a 1 p.m. match on Thursday on ESPN2. The other regional semifinal features No. 8 Kentucky vs. No. 9 Arkansas at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday on ESPNU. HUSKERS RACK UP POSTSEASON AWARDS• Merritt Beason, a junior opposite hitter who transfered to NU from Florida, was named the AVCA Region Player of the Year, as well as All-Big Ten First Team and All-Region Team. Beason has stepped in as a team captain and is contributing a team-leading 3.83 kills per set this season with 2.05 digs per set and a .293 hitting percentage. A native of Gardendale, Ala., Beason earned four Big Ten Player of the Week honors this season and was the AVCA National Player of the Week on Oct. 24 following 21 kills in a 3-2 win over then-No. 1 Wisconsin. Lincoln&nbsp;- Jaz Shelley became the first Husker in history to record a pair of triple-doubles in her career by producing 19 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists to fuel Nebraska's largest victory margin over a Division I team in the school record book with a 108-35 women's basketball win over UNCW at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Tuesday night.

Shelley, a graduate student from Moe, Australia, nearly notched a triple-double in the first half with eight points, eight rebounds and 10 assists to help Nebraska bolt to a 62-12 halftime lead. The Huskers (7-2), who scored 31 points in each of the first two quarters, tied the school record for most points in a first half, while holding the Seahawks (2-6) to the second-fewest points by an opponent in a first half in program history.

Shelley, who previously notched a Husker triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against North Carolina Central on Nov. 20, 2021, hit 5-of-10 three-pointers on the night to ignite the Huskers to a season-high 16 threes, tying for the second-most threes by a Husker squad in school history.

While Shelley stole the show, her historic performance came in less than 25 game minutes, as the Huskers produced a complete team effort.

Junior center Alexis Markowski notched her fourth straight double-double and fifth of the season with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action.

Freshman Natalie Potts continued her impressive play with 11 points and eight rebounds in just 21 minutes, as she came up just two boards short of her second double-double.

Fellow freshmen Logan Nissley and Jessica Petrie both notched career highs, as Nissley pumped in 18 points on four three-pointers while adding five rebounds, four assists and three steals in 20 minutes. Petrie added 11 points and four boards in front of her family who arrived at the arena from Australia shortly before tip-off.

Darian White (11) and Callin Hake (10) rounded out a group of seven Huskers who scored in double figures on the night, while all 10 available Huskers scored at least three points and grabbed at least one rebound.

For the game, Nebraska hit a season-high 58.1 percent (43-74) from the field as the Husker point total tied for the 10th-highest in school history. The Big Red knocked down a season-best 45.7 percent (16-35) of its threes, while hitting 6-of-10 free throws. Nebraska held a dominant 57-25 edge on the glass, holding the Seahawks without an offensive rebound in the first 20 minutes. The Huskers also won the turnover battle, 18-11.

Nebraska's defense was solid, holding UNCW to just 23 percent (14-61) shooting for the game, including just 2-of-18 threes. Taylor Henderson and Kylah Silver, who were two of three Seahawks who entered the game averaging in double figures, managed led UNCW with nine points apiece.

Nebraska opens Big Ten play on the road Saturday, Dec. 9 as NU battles Michigan State in East Lansing at 1 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network and radio coverage will be provided by the Huskers Radio Network.

OHS Senior Lindee Henning signs with University of South Dakota for Cross Country

OMAHA, Neb.&nbsp;– The&nbsp;<a href="http://www.supernovas.com/" target="_blank">Omaha Supernovas,</a>&nbsp;Nebraska’s professional volleyball team in the newly-established&nbsp;<a href="http://www.provolleyball.com/" target="_blank">Professional Volleyball Federation</a>, has announced the signing of former Creighton and Palm Beach Atlantic star&nbsp;Jazz Schmidt.&nbsp;

Born in Nebraska, Schmidt&nbsp;was a dual-position standout across her six-year college career as she split time at both setter and as a right-side attacker. Schmidt spent her first five seasons at&nbsp;Division II&nbsp;Palm Beach Atlantic where she became one of the most prolific hitters in program history. Her versatility excelled during her 2019 sophomore season where she finished second on the team in kills (315), assists&nbsp;(566) and digs (291) while finishing third in blocks (52) and service aces (30). &nbsp;

After playing in just three matches during the shortened 2020-2021 season, Schmidt was named an AVCA All-American after her senior campaign with the Sailfish. Schmidt was also named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year&nbsp;after finishing with 10 triple-doubles which led all of Division II. Schmidt led PBA with 766 assists while being second on the team with 344 kills on&nbsp;a .382 hitting percentage&nbsp;with 33 aces and 297 digs. &nbsp;

“Jazz is an exciting addition to our roster for many reasons,” Supernovas Head Coach&nbsp;Shelton Collier&nbsp;said. “First, she is a talented and skilled player who will contribute as both a setter and as a hitter.&nbsp;Secondly,&nbsp;it’s&nbsp;awesome for us to have a Nebraska native who played at Creighton with our team.&nbsp;

Schmidt brought her dual-position talent to Omaha as she transferred to Creighton for her Super Senior season&nbsp;in 2022. Bluejay Head Coach&nbsp;Kirsten Booth&nbsp;deployed Schmidt as a utility player using her as&nbsp;both an attacker and setter. With the unexpected absence of starting setter Kendra Wait, Schmidt was thrust into the starting role for the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament against Auburn. Schmidt posted a double-double securing 44 assists, 11 digs and one ace.&nbsp;

Following her playing career that included 1,022 career kills, Schmidt spent a couple of months&nbsp;on the Creighton coaching staff before being hired as an assistant volleyball coach for Lauren Tekavec&nbsp;at Division II Wingate University. Tekavec&nbsp;is the successor of NCAA coaching legend&nbsp;Shelton Collier,&nbsp;who is the current head coach for the Supernovas. &nbsp;

“I am so thankful for the opportunity to be back in Omaha with the new Pro Volleyball Federation.&nbsp;Being born in Nebraska, I’ve&nbsp;grown up attached to the sport of volleyball because of all the state has to offer for young girls,” Schmidt said. “Playing at Creighton last year strengthened my love for Omaha and my belief in what the entire state is doing for volleyball on a national stage. I’m&nbsp;confident that the Supernovas are going to do something special with the support this state has, and I’m&nbsp;excited to be a part of it.”&nbsp;

Additionally, Schmidt had a brief tenure with Nebraska. She&nbsp;competed with the Huskers Beach Volleyball team in the spring of 2018 going 5-13.&nbsp;At a&nbsp;young age,&nbsp;Schmidt also had a role as one of Nebraska Volleyball’s ball girls that helped during matches. &nbsp;

The Supernovas are one of seven U.S. teams for the 2024 inaugural season: Omaha Supernovas,&nbsp;<a href="https://atlantavibe.com/inaugural-season-tickets-on-sale/" target="_blank">Atlanta Vibe</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://orlandoprovb.com/" target="_blank">Orlando Valkyries</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.columbusfury.com/" target="_blank">Columbus Fury</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.grrise.com/" target="_blank">Grand Rapids Rise</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://sandiegoprovb.com/" target="_blank">San Diego Mojo</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://vegasthrill.com/" target="_blank">V</a><a href="https://vegasthrill.com/" target="_blank">egas Thrill</a>. Two expansion teams,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.dallasprovolleyball.com/" target="_blank">Dallas Pro Volleyball</a>&nbsp;and Kansas City Pro Volleyball, have been announced for 2025. In Season One, the Pro Volleyball Federation will be showcased&nbsp;in three different U.S. time zones. Matches will take place on 67 different dates between January and May 2024, occurring on every day of the week.&nbsp;

After the regular season, the Supernovas are aiming to be one of the top four squads in the standings that will compete for the Pro Volleyball Federation Championship in May. Supernovas sign former Creighton Star Jazz Schmidt 

Six Nebraska volleyball players and head coach John Cook were honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in the All-Region Awards announced on Tuesday.&nbsp;

Bekka Allick, Merritt Beason, Andi Jackson, Harper Murray, Bergen Reilly and Lexi Rodriguez were all named to the AVCA North All-Region Team. The Huskers' six All-Region selections ties the 2016 team for the most in program history.&nbsp;

Additionally, Beason was named the North Region Player of the Year, and Murray was named the North Region Freshman of the Year. Cook was named the Region Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his career and first since 2016. &nbsp;

Beason is the second Husker ever to be named AVCA Region Player of the Year, joining Kelly Hunter (2017). A junior opposite hitter who transfered to NU from Florida, Beason has stepped in as a team captain and is contributing a team-leading 3.83 kills per set this season with 2.05 digs per set and a .293 hitting percentage. Beason was a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection. A native of Gardendale, Ala., Beason earned four Big Ten Player of the Week honors this season and was the AVCA National Player of the Week on Oct. 24 following 21 kills in a 3-2 win over then-No. 1 Wisconsin. As a sophomore at Florida in 2022, Beason was an All-SEC and AVCA All-Region selection.

Murray is NU's eighth AVCA Region Freshman of the Year. Rodriguez was the last one in 2021. Murray was voted Big Ten Freshman of the Year this season, making her the second ever Husker (Madi Kubik, 2019) to receive that distinction. A two-time All-American libero, Rodriguez was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year this season for the second time in her career, becoming the fifth player in Big Ten history to receive that honor twice in a career. Rodriguez, who averages 3.56 digs and 1.26 assists per set with a .980 reception percentage, leads a Husker defense that ranks third nationally in opponent hitting percentage. The Husker co-captain also received All-Big Ten First Team honors for the third time. A junior from Sterling, Ill., Rodriguez was twice named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week this season. She was a first-team AVCA All-American in 2021 and a second-team AVCA All-American in 2022.

Allick earned her second All-Region accolade in as many years. A sophomore middle blocker from Lincoln, Neb., Allick has been Nebraska’s top defensive presence at the net with a team-best 1.39 blocks per set this season. Offensively, Allick adds 1.82 kills per set on .324 hitting. Allick received second-team All-Big Ten honors for the second year in a row.&nbsp;

Jackson, a freshman middle blocker from Brighton, Colo., averages 2.07 kills per set and 1.08 blocks per set and has a team-high .398 hitting percentage, which ranks 19th nationally. Jackson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week in November and has hit .500 or better in 12 matches this season. In addition to picking up AVCA All-Region honors, Jackson was selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team and All-Freshman Team.&nbsp;

Reilly, Nebraska's freshman setter, collected AVCA All-Region honors one week after being named Big Ten Setter of the Year, becoming the first ever freshman to earn the award since it originated in 2012. She also earned All-Big Ten First Team and All-Freshman Team accolades. Reilly, just the second true freshman setter to be the starter at Nebraska under head coach John Cook, is putting up 10.69 assists and 2.63 digs per set and has 13 double-doubles this season. OMAHA, Neb.&nbsp;– The&nbsp;<a href="http://www.supernovas.com/" target="_blank">Omaha Supernovas,</a>&nbsp;Nebraska’s professional volleyball team in the newly-established&nbsp;<a href="http://www.provolleyball.com/" target="_blank">Professional Volleyball Federation</a>, has announced the addition of&nbsp;Brooke&nbsp;Smith&nbsp;to the Human Performance Team&nbsp;as Head Nutritionist.&nbsp;

Smith is a registered dietitian and licensed medical nutrition therapist. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Smith received her&nbsp;bachelor's degree&nbsp;in dietetics before collecting her master's in nutrition and exercise physiology.&nbsp;

Smith marks the third member of the Human Performance Team, which includes Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Laura Pilakowski Buttermore and team psychologist Doctor Larry Widman. That group is led by Head Team Physician Dr. Jaime Seeman, who&nbsp;was&nbsp;<a href="https://supernovas.com/supernovas-name-dr-jaime-fit-fabulous-seeman-head-team-physician/" target="_blank">announced earlier this week</a>.&nbsp;

“I am incredibly honored to join the Supernovas as a member of the Human Performance Team. I take&nbsp;a lot of pride in and am committed to forming authentic relationships with both the athletes and staff to maximize health, wellbeing, performance, and program success," Smith&nbsp;said. “I strongly believe implementing effective nutritional strategies is crucial to optimize&nbsp;elite athletes' physical and mental performance, as well as expedite&nbsp;recovery between training and competition.&nbsp;I can’t&nbsp;wait to get started.”&nbsp;

Smith is a former college volleyball player&nbsp;who competed from 2015-2018.&nbsp;Smith&nbsp;helped Nebraska win&nbsp;its fourth national&nbsp;championship in 2015 during her freshman&nbsp;season. After her sophomore season in Lincoln, the Texas native transferred to Kansas State for her junior campaign before returning&nbsp;to Nebraska for her final season in which the Huskers would lose to Stanford in the 2018 national title match. Smith was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree during her time with the Huskers while being a part of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team three times. &nbsp;

Smith brings a strong body of work to the Supernovas as she is the current dietician for the University of Nebraska-Omaha's hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, and volleyball programs. She’s&nbsp;also worked with high school, collegiate and professional athletes across 11 different sports. &nbsp;

In July of 2021, Smith founded Team 8 Nutrition to provide&nbsp;individualized nutrition support to enhance athletic performance, overall wellness, and help individuals cultivate success. While her business mostly serves athletes in the Lincoln and Omaha area, Smith’s outreach extends to various states across the country. &nbsp;

Smith is married to her husband, Matt Snyder, who played for the Nebraska football team from 2015-2018. Smith’s family has a strong athletic background as her mother, Janine Gremmel Smith, played volleyball for the University of Texas and helped the Longhorns win a national championship in 1988. Her dad, Warren Smith, was a pole vaulter and decathlete at&nbsp;Texas. Smith’s younger sister, Natalie, was a libero for the University of Michigan from 2017-2020. &nbsp;

The Nebraska women’s basketball team closes its three-game home stand by taking on UNC Wilmington Tuesday night in Lincoln.

Nebraska hopes to continue building momentum by completing a sweep of its three-game home stand. The stand began with a 77-53 win over Florida Atlantic on Wednesday, before a resounding 80-72 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday. The Big Red rallied from a 15-point third-quarter deficit by shooting 75.8 percent from the field, including 66.7 percent (8-12) from three-point range in the second half to put up 58 points after halftime.

Two-time Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award candidate Jaz Shelley led Nebraska with 22 points and eight assists. She became the 37th 1,000-point scorer in Husker history with her late shot clock, banked three-point hook shot from near the top of the key to help seal the win. She also moved into the top five on Nebraska’s career three-point list (175) and the top 10 on NU’s career assist list (395).

Two-time Lisa Leslie Award candidate Alexis Markowski (15 points, 10 rebounds) had her third consecutive double-double and fourth of the season in the win over Georgia Tech. First-year head coach Nicole Woods leads UNC Wilmington to Nebraska with a 2-5 record after suffering an 85-58 loss at Iowa State on Sunday.

The loss to the Cyclones was the second game in a four-game road swing that began with a 66-58 overtime win at Winthrop last Wednesday. The Seahawks jumped to a 15-2 lead in the first five minutes, but scored just 36 points in the next 35 minutes as the two teams went to overtime tied at 51. UNCW then outscored Winthrop 15-7 in the extra period.

The Seahawks are led by senior Evan Miller, who is averaging a team-best 13.1 points to go with 4.9 rebounds after a 19-point effort at Iowa State. The 5-11 guard leads UNCW with 10 three-pointers on the year. Miller carried the Seahawks to victory at Winthrop (Nov. 29) with a career-high 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 3-of-5 from long range. She scored 18 in regulation, including a three in the right corner with five seconds left to trim the UNCW deficit to 49-48 before sinking three straight free throws with less than one second left to send the game to OT tied at 51. She added eight points in overtime to account for the final margin.

Redshirt freshman Taylor Henderson has added 12.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 2.1 steals. The 5-11 guard is averaging six free throw attempts, but is hitting just 26.2 percent (28-107) of her shots from the field, including 4-of-25 three-pointers. Henderson had 11 points, eight rebounds, nine turnovers and five fouls in the win at Winthrop. She banked in a 30-footer from the left wing to cut the UNCW deficit to 47-45 with 12 seconds left. Britany Range (4.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg) and Mary Ferrito (1.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg), a Wisconsin transfer, round out a group of four starting guards for the Seahawks. Range has hit a team-best 34.8 percent (8-23) from three-point range, but Ferrito has hit just 4-of-24 shots overall from the field, including 0-of-10 threes. Freshman Kylah Silver gives UNCW a third double-figure scorer by averaging 11.3 points and 4.3 rebounds off the bench. The 5-7 guard averages more than five free throw attempts per game and is shooting 86.5 percent (32-37) at the line. She also ranks second on the team behind Henderson with 2.0 steals per game. Silver had 12 points in the loss at Iowa State.

Sophomore McCall King gives UNCW more backcourt depth with the 5-10 guard averaging 4.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

Lexi Jackson, a 6-4 senior center, leads UNCW inside by averaging 5.1 points and team bests of 8.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.

Corrie McLaughlin, a 6-2 freshman forward, has added size and efficiency by going 7-for-7 from the field on the season. The Seahawks have more depth inside with 6-3 sophomore forwards Mingaile Urmuleviciute (2.5 ppg, 1.0 rpg) and Sammy Ackles (1.8 ppg, 2.3 rpg).

As a team, UNCW is shooting just 33.4 percent from the field, including 23.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Seahawks have hit 73.8 percent of their free throws. UNCW has been outscored by an average of 64.3-57.7, and outrebounded 39.9-38.6 on the season. The Seahawks have also been strapped by a minus-1.7 team turnover margin.

Tuesday’s game marks the first meeting in history between Nebraska and UNC Wilmington in women’s basketball.

The Nebraska men's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season, as the Huskers travel to Minnesota Wednesday evening. Tipoff from Williams Arena in Minneapolis is set for shortly after 8 p.m. and the game will be televised on BTN and carried on the Husker Radio Network.

Wednesday's game is the first of two Big Ten games this week for the Huskers, as conference play started on Dec. 1 and goes throughout the week before resuming in January. &nbsp;Nebraska's other Big Ten matchup will be on Sunday when the Huskers take on Michigan State.

The Huskers (7-1) look to rebound following a loss to No. 15 Creighton on Sunday afternoon. He is also third in the Big Ten with three double-doubles this season and has 23 career double-doubles</li><li>Williams has started all eight contests and is 22nd in the Big Ten in scoring at 13.5 points per game, while chipping in 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. The 6-foot-7 guard has been in double figures six times this season, highlighted by a 25-point effort in the win against Oregon State on Nov. 17 and a 17-point, nine-rebound, four-assist effort against Stony Brook on Nov. 15. Williams is 91 points away from 1,000 points for his career.</li><li>Allick has been a force inside, averaging 7.3 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game. Huskers open Big Ten play at Minnesota wednesday night

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Creighton’s Baylor Scheierman grew up 75 miles from Lincoln, in Aurora, so he has a deep understanding of the importance of Bluejays' annual game against Nebraska.

Scheierman scored 20 of his 24 points in the first half as the No. 15 Bluejays built a 15-point halftime lead on their way to an 89-60 win on Sunday.

“I started off my first four shots and then I kind of got hot a little bit,” Scheierman said. ”I don’t think we played our best in the second half, especially me missing a lot of open shots. But it means a lot, obviously, in this game to be from Nebraska and be able to have a decent performance. Credit to my teammates for finding me”

Scheierman became one of three players in the six major basketball conferences to make three 3s in a half this season, according to SportRadar.

The Bluejays' 29-point victory is tied for their largest winning margin over Nebraska in the 57-game series dating to 1923.

Creighton (7-1) trailed only twice, the last time with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The Bluejays then held Nebraska (7-1) to 16 points the rest of the half while hitting six 3-pointers, three from Scheierman, and 7 of 8 free throws to go up 52-37 at the break.

Creighton, which avenged last season’s 63-53 home loss to the Cornhuskers, stretched the lead to 21 on Steven Ashworth’s layup four minutes into the second half. Nebraska got no closer than 19 points the rest of the way. Creighton’s largest lead was 31.

The Bluejays, coach Greg McDermott said, did everything they believed they needed coming into the game.

“Obviously we made some shots in the first half and that allowed us to create some separation,” McDermott said. “But our guys played together. We assisted on 17 baskets. Nebraska is a big assist team. They only had six assists. We really wanted to fight them on the boards and were able to rebound them."

Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg concurred with McDermott’s analysis of the game, saying the Bluejays “executed their game plan to perfection.”

“Obviously a very difficult day for us,” Hoiberg said. “We were right there with them about nine minutes to go in the half. They went on a big run and set the tone for the rest of the game.
