North Platte, Neb. - Miss Nebraska Raechel Warren has a had a busy schedule for her with plenty different events to attend but she recently attended the Miss America Pageant in Orland Florida in late December to early January. During her trip to Florida, Warren experienced many different fun filled activities and connecting with the other states misses. Miss Nebraska roommate was Miss Montana and for Warren there might have been an 8-year age gap, but the two had a blast.&nbsp;

"It was really fun because I am one of the oldest candidates but I'm 28 and my roommate was 20 and it was quite fun. There's an age gap there but we did some Tik Tok videos, and we had so much fun together rehearsing, we got to do a ton of production rehearsals," said Miss Nebraska Raechel Warren.&nbsp;

Also happening this weekend in North Platte is the Crown and Gowns which welcomes the 2025 contestants who are in town for their headshots, get their gowns and attend workshops. On Friday, all the 2025 contestants are meeting up with Miss Nebraska for a big roller-skating party. Warren plans on keeping herself busy for the next 6 months doing events throughout the state.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Post news director Canon Rath chatted with Scrappy the president for the Guardians of the Children (GOC) about the upcoming 11th annual "caller" chili/soup, rib/meat cook off and silent auction taken place this Saturday at the D&amp;N Event Center in North Platte.&nbsp;

The event runs from 11:00am - 2:00pm and costs $5 at the door to get in. That $5 paid will let you taste all the chili/meats being served. The event is in honor of Ed "Caller" Clafin. The Lil' Guardians will be on location selling drinks and cinnamon rolls. Attendees will have the chance to vote on the best chili/soup, rib/meat and best decorated booth. 

The GOC is still looking for teams to participate in the event. If you would like to participate, it does cost $45 per team. To get the contact information, check out the flyer attached to the story.

Ogallala, Ne – The Ogallala City Council met in regular session Tuesday night. It was a fairly fast meeting. They had an update from the Goodall YMCA and had an update on the new water operator PeopleService Incorporated who took over operation of the water and wastewater operations recently in Ogallala. City Administrator Kevin Wilkins said, “PeopleService has been managing our water and wastewater for about three months now it's been good for staff because they have 110 people that are all trained water operators. Our local staff gets better support. We've retained all the local staff, basically they just see a change of name on their paycheck. They're better supported, communications have improved, and we've achieved some cost savings as a city. We're anticipating even more cost savings as we get into some of those improvements that we need at the wastewater treatment plant because you have that depth of experience. "&nbsp;

The City Council did approve the purchase of a new city bus. The council was already prepared to replace one of the older buses, but the process was sped up because that bus was recently involved in an accident. The council passed a resolution to seek Federal financial aid in the purchase of a new bus. Wilkins said the city would be responsible for about 10% of the purchase.&nbsp;

The Ogallala Tree Board also gave a report. Barb Jeffries told the Council the board has a grant to cut down approximately 15-20 trees in the city that would be deemed a nuisance. Wilkins said the city will be sending letters to homeowners who have been identified as having any nuisance trees. Part of the grant, the tree board has been approved for includes the homeowner agreeing to replace and maintain a new tree. If the homeowner agrees to that, the city will cut down the trees at no cost.&nbsp;

The next Ogallala City Council Meeting is Tuesday, February 11.&nbsp;

Ogallala, Ne - The former Ogallala Goodall Recreation Center was rebranded and has new leaders since being handed over to the YMCA of Scottsbluff late in 2024. New CEO Conrad Bostron says it all came together rather quickly, "It came together very quickly over the summer last year working with the city of Ogallala and the city manager (Kevin Wilkins)." Bostron says " The community acceptance has been fantastic. It's one of these places where you can walk in and make little incremental changes to something that's already successful and already working well and just see an exponential return from that little incremental change."

The new YMCA is having a open house this Thursday, January 30."You can come check out the branch, check out the facilities at no charge. Use the pool; enjoy a couple of different classes if you want, and maybe have a few refreshments. Then get some information about membership. We're gonna do it in two increments. 10am-Noon our focus is going to be seniors citizens. They're at the "Y" at that time of day anyway for some classes. We have some great water aerobics that day and great facilities to show off" said Bostron. The YMCA will then hold another open house from 3pm - 5pm for the community as a whole and families.

Recently rebranded Ogallala YMCA hosting open house on Thursday

North Platte, Neb. - When most folks here 4-H, they instantly think it's animal showing, which there is plenty of that. However, there are different areas of activities for 4-H'rs to get involved in and one of those areas is the entrepreneurship project.&nbsp;

Emersyn Sheard, a local 4-h'r for Lincoln, Logan and McPherson County spent this past summer doing different activities but one of those activities was her entrepreneurship project which was a robot that can clean your room.&nbsp;

"For my four H entrepreneurship project, I identified a problem that I think most people relate to keeping their room clean. I know we can all struggle with that, and it can be overwhelming to find the time and motivation to tidy up. So, I came up with a solution, a robot that could clean your room for you, " said Emersyon Sheard. " I designed a prototype which was more like a concept or an idea to show what the robot could look like and how it could work. Through this project I learned about the importance of problem solving. It was fun to learn how to gather data with a survey."&nbsp;

Sheard also participated in food and nutrition, sewing, entrepreneurship and art and crafts and plans on to do many of those activities once again this summer.&nbsp;

                    </figure><p>Emersyn Sheard, a local 4-h'r for Lincoln, Logan and McPherson County spent this past summer doing different activities but one of those activities was her entrepreneurship project which was a robot that can clean your room.&nbsp;</p><p>"For my four H entrepreneurship project, I identified a problem that I think most people relate to keeping their room clean. I know we can all struggle with that, and it can be overwhelming to find the time and motivation to tidy up. So, I came up with a solution, a robot that could clean your room for you, " said Emersyon Sheard. " I designed a prototype which was more like a concept or an idea to show what the robot could look like and how it could work. Through this project I learned about the importance of problem solving. It was fun to learn how to gather data with a survey."&nbsp;</p><figure>

North Platte, Neb. - Exciting times are upon us at the North Platte Regional Airport is making numerous changes. Earlier in the fall, the city welcomed state and federal leaders alongside local leaders, community members and more for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new terminal building.&nbsp;

The terminal will bring a new, modern look. Also, the terminal is scheduled to be done in Spring 2026, but if nice weather continues, the project could move along a tad bit quicker. While the terminal has been the highlight at the airport, the committee have brained storm and discussed new projects to be done. North Platte also saw a record-breaking year in 2024 and wants to build off that success.&nbsp;

POST news director Canon Rath had the chance to with Dan Phelps from the North Platte Airport Authority. The duo discussed the new terminal, how expansion of the airport can help economic development in North Platte, how the existing building will be repurposed and so much more. Post news director Canon Rath chatted with Tuna from the Guardians of the Children (GOC) about the upcoming 11th annual "caller" chili/soup, rib/meat cook off and silent auction taken place this Saturday at the D&amp;N Event Center in North Platte.&nbsp;

The event runs from 11:00am - 2:00pm and costs $5 at the door to get in. That $5 paid will let you taste all the chili/meats being served. The event is in honor of Ed "Caller" Clafin. The Lil' Guardians will be on location selling drinks and cinnamon rolls. Attendees will have the chance to vote on the best chili/soup, rib/meat and best decorated booth.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ogallala, Ne - Ogallala City Manager Kevin Wilkins joined Derek Beck in our Ogallala Eagle Media Studio on Wednesday morning during "Sandhills Spotlight" on <a href="http://www.z935country.com">Z 93.5 Country</a> to recap Tuesday's (January 14, 2025) City Council meeting.

Among topics dicussed were the appointments to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, who report to the board. Karen Bowlin and Maria Parker were appointed to three year terms. Also there were new appointments to the Board of Health. Jessica Liebhart, Lori Rowley and Richard VanRotz were all appointed to three year terms.

Wilkins also spoke in depth about the construction at the corner of Highway 30 and A streets where GenGen LLC is constructing a building. They were awarded $12,000 for utilities etc. to complete the project. Wilkens said "people need to be aware that these economic development incentives come with strings attached for whatever you need to get your project done; in this case the best way to hook up the utilities was to go into the street to avoid a dead end utility hook up, so we're gonna pay them $6,000 upon connection once it's inspected and then we'll give them another $6,000 at certificate of occupancy when the building is occupied with the stipulation that there is the creation of three additional jobs. So you have a taxable investment which is gonna be about $300,000 for the building and then in addition they're gonna need to create three jobs by June 2027."

(Podcast) Mid Plains Community College, Ogallala Campus gearing up for busy 2025

North Platte, Neb. - When most folks here 4-H, they instantly think it's animal showing, which there is plenty of that. There are different areas of activities for 4-H'rs to get involved in and one of those areas is the music contest where the kids can participate in by using just vocals, playing an instrument, or even both.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jayden Tillman is a senior at Brady High School and has been involved in the music contest since he was in 8th or 9th grade. Around that same time is when he started to develop an interest in music. When participating he likes to use his vocal cords and play his guitar.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"The music contest. It's a really an overly glorified talent show. It is a phenomenal thing," said Tillman. &nbsp;"You can take it. You can have time to showcase your talents, whether it be poetry or singing or just playing an instrument and stuff, you know, gives you a way to express yourself and kind of show your skills to people that you may not otherwise be able to show them to and stuff. It is a really, like I said, really good deal and stuff to do.&nbsp;

While not participating in the music contest, Tillman likes to enter bake goodies during the fair season and more He is also the recipient of the 4 H council scholarship and plans to go a tech school in Kansas following his graduation from Brady.&nbsp;

                    </figure><p><i>North Platte Post</i></p><p>North Platte, Neb. - When most folks here 4-H, they instantly think it's animal showing, which there is plenty of that. There are different areas of activities for 4-H'rs to get involved in and one of those areas is the music contest where the kids can participate in by using just vocals, playing an instrument, or even both.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Jayden Tillman is a senior at Brady High School and has been involved in the music contest since he was in 8th or 9th grade. Around that same time is when he started to develop an interest in music. When participating he likes to use his vocal cords and play his guitar.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><figure>

                    </figure><p>"The music contest. It's a really an overly glorified talent show. It is a phenomenal thing," said Tillman. &nbsp;"You can take it. You can have time to showcase your talents, whether it be poetry or singing or just playing an instrument and stuff, you know, gives you a way to express yourself and kind of show your skills to people that you may not otherwise be able to show them to and stuff. Grandels Roofing and Construction in North Platte will be giving away toys this Sunday from 1:00pm - 3:00pm to the first 500 kids (kids must be present). Santa Claus will also be making an appearance at the event. This event is a way for Grandels to give back to their community. It is asked to park in a safe area and to arrive pretty early to get lined up down E street. Grandels Roofing and Construction is located at 421 S. Dewey Street.&nbsp;

The event is set to begin around 5:30pm and the cookie platter can be bid on at the Mockingbird. This year has been a slower year in donation for the Mid-Plains United Way. Also an update on the giving tree at FNBO and all tags have been claimed.

Kearney, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Kearney sports communication majors received news that the group has been nominated in three categories for this year's IBS awards in New York City. &nbsp;

Amongst the students is North Platte native Kade Mohr who has been nominated for the second year and this year is a finalist with seniors Jon Willis and Ethan McCormick for "Best Sports Talk Show". All sporting events and talk show aired on 91.1 KLPR the student run radio station during the 2024 year. This marks another year where UNK students have been nominated for the IBS awards in New York City.&nbsp;

The event kicks off at 11:00am and runs until 4:00pm however brunch with Santa starts at 10:00am. Saturday is shaping to be a beautiful day in North Platte and enjoy it at the PAC for holiday fun. Live artist demos from around the state, a chainsaw demo, face painting and so much more going on.
