North Platte, Neb. - People's Health in North Platte is back again to education young adults with their focus this time around on high school students with the annual Wild Night. This event is taking place Friday at Wild Bills from 4:00pm - 6:00pm.

Students have the opportunity to attend the event and earn a passport card and attend all the different agencies to learn. The event is geared around health. After students complete their passport, they will get a card and that card can get them free laser tag, bowling and pizza. Their will be raffles and giveaways. Students are asked to bring their HS ID with them

Ogallala, Ne - The Ogallala Regional Arts Council is hosting another concert this Sunday, this time at the new Willow &amp; Oak Event Center at 801 Diamond Springs Trail on the north side of Ogallala. According to ORAC's Barb Jeffries, three members of the Council drove to Red Cloud a year ago to see The Wildwoods and said "they fell in love with their music". Jeffries and Elisha McBride joined Derek Beck on Thursday's Sandhills Spotlight on Z93.5 Country to talk about the show.

The Wildwoods have become a force in the folk scene, boasting accolades like being finalists at the FreshGrass Music Festival Band competition and Gems on VHS "Gems in the Rough" competition in 2023. Their songwriting prowess is underscored by semi-final placements in the International Songwriting competition, with tracks like "Untitled" and "Way of Train." Recognized consistently at the Omaha Arts and Entertainment Awards, they were crowned "Best Band" by the Lincoln Journal Star’s Lincoln Choice Awards in 2022.

The doors will open for the concert at 3:00pm Mountain time, at Willow and Oak. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.The Ogallala Regional Arts Council is able to bring entertainment to the area with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and through the sale of tickets and&nbsp;memberships. Members will be admitted with membership cards. Individual tickets may also be purchased at the door. Individual tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students.

North Platte, Ne - March is National Agriculture Month, and Eagle Media is spotlighting businesses and organizations giving back to agriculure this month. For years, homeschool students either had to take a minimum number of classes at public schools to participate in Future Farmers of America, or missed out entirely. Now a new Nebraska Agriculture Acadamy has entered the picture over the last few years. It started with former public school teachers Breann Zimmer, and Ann Dvorak in 2022 and they ave since been joined by Katie Shadbolt who are all Nebraska Certified Agriculture Educators. The three teamed up to create an online agriculture education academy for homeschool students.

Zimmer, who joined Derek Beck this week on Sandhills Spotlight on Z 93.5 Country says, "The Nebraska Agriculture Academy provides hybrid education to students grades 7-12. Our goal is to make it possible for homeschool students across Nebraska to participate in FFA and learn about agriculture."

Ogallala Basketball Games (Broadcast Replay)

The spring semester is here and People's Health is once again making their way over to NPCC for this semester STD and Tacos. The event is for college students only and runs from 11:00am - 1:00pm in the NPCC Health Building room #25. 

Students can get tested for STD's, learn educational facts about sexual activity and more. West Central District Health Department will be on location to provide vaccines.

Grant, along with his parents Shawn and Julie formed Chundy Land &amp; Cattle in 2016. This was also the year that the family purchased Bob and Randy Martin’s cow/calf pairs. Today, the operation consists of Stan and Phyllis Jones, Shawn and Julie Jones and Grant Jones, the sixth generation. Together, they work to maintain and grow this beautiful ranch we call home. They also operate a small backgrounding lot and finish cattle at yards in Nebraska and Kansas. &nbsp;

Chundy Land & Cattle Company moves 9th Annual Bull sale to Ogallala on March 15

Ogallala, Ne - The Ogallala City Council held their regular meeting last night, amongst the conversation, the council talked about future plans for the reconstruction of Highway 30 through Ogallala.

Ogallala City Manager, Kevin Wilkins said "The State, in order to move forward with a level of confidence to incur costs in the work and in the final design and getting ready to go out for bids; they (State) want some assurances from the local government. We have that agreement to move forward with this project." &nbsp;

Wilkins said the construction and reconstruction of highway 30 would be from one end to the other. The city is looking at a bid in 2026 and highway construction in 2027 or early 2028. &nbsp;

He says the reconstruction of 30 would primarily be around highway 61 and highway 30 junction, with resurfacing being the largest focus on the rest of highway 30 through Ogallala.&nbsp; <a href="http://www.npkubota.com">(LISTEN TO PODCAST sponsored by North Platte Kubota)</a>

The Council also discussed and voted in favor of the "Request for Qualification" for the City of Ogallala Flood Protection for City of Ogallala and Surrounding Areas. Wilkins said, this request had to happen for the City to be able to apply for an EPA Grant that potentially would give the City more funds to work on flood infrastructure when the highway 30 projects begin. The EPA Grant application is due in April of this year.&nbsp;

&nbsp;According to Wilkins, "we're looking at early estimates of eight million bucks to fix the drainage issues. &nbsp;We had a meeting with the Department of Roads a week ago and I think there's some synergy that we can gain as they tear up the highway. They've got a certain amount of drainage infrastructure that they need to replace if they tore it up anyway without oversizing it. We may be able to negotiate something where you (Department of Roads) pick up what it would cost to have just replaced it, and we (City of Ogallala) pay for the oversight.&nbsp;

They don't want to build a brand-new road and then two years later we get the money and then we go in and tear it out to put the flood infrastructure in. We're trying to time the two projects to happen at the same time."&nbsp;

The city is planning a public open house meeting on April 6 to share and discuss the feedback from this survey.&nbsp;

The City of Ogallala is embarking on an update to its Comprehensive Plan to guide future growth and development. &nbsp;

The EPA Grant application is due in April of this year.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;According to Wilkins, "we're looking at early estimates of eight million bucks to fix the drainage issues. &nbsp;We had a meeting with the Department of Roads a week ago and I think there's some synergy that we can gain as they tear up the highway. They've got a certain amount of drainage infrastructure that they need to replace if they tore it up anyway without oversizing it. We may be able to negotiate something where you (Department of Roads) pick up what it would cost to have just replaced it, and we (City of Ogallala) pay for the oversight.&nbsp;</p><p>They don't want to build a brand-new road and then two years later we get the money and then we go in and tear it out to put the flood infrastructure in. The program began as a goodwill gesture between girls in the local community and the visiting delegates. Miss Nebraska Organization's Megan Doughty says Sparklers is for little girls 6-12 years old, "they are paired with one of the Miss or Teen delegate during the Miss Nebraska and Miss Nebraska's Teen cometition in June for the entirety of the week. The girls get to dance with the delgates on stage, are introduced to the pageant crowd and more".&nbsp;

North Platte, Neb. - Miss Nebraska Raechel Warren has a had a busy schedule for her with plenty different events to attend but she recently attended the Miss America Pageant in Orland Florida in late December to early January. During her trip to Florida, Warren experienced many different fun filled activities and connecting with the other states misses. Miss Nebraska roommate was Miss Montana and for Warren there might have been an 8-year age gap, but the two had a blast.&nbsp;

"It was really fun because I am one of the oldest candidates but I'm 28 and my roommate was 20 and it was quite fun. There's an age gap there but we did some Tik Tok videos, and we had so much fun together rehearsing, we got to do a ton of production rehearsals," said Miss Nebraska Raechel Warren.&nbsp;

Also happening this weekend in North Platte is the Crown and Gowns which welcomes the 2025 contestants who are in town for their headshots, get their gowns and attend workshops. On Friday, all the 2025 contestants are meeting up with Miss Nebraska for a big roller-skating party. Warren plans on keeping herself busy for the next 6 months doing events throughout the state.&nbsp;&nbsp;

There are plenty of classes that everyone can enjoy. The PAC also welcomes in 2 new galleries beginning in February. Ogallala, Ne - St. Luke's Catholic 5th Graders&nbsp;Jetta Peterson and Elizabeth Tickle along with Lisa Kraus joined Derek Beck on Sandhills Spotlight on Z93.5 Country Thursday morning to talk about Catholic Schools Week at St. Luke's and the annual Winter Festival set for this Sunday afternoon at the Keith County Fairgrounds. There will be lunch available, along with Kids Games, a Cakewalk, a Silent and Live Auction, Raffle and more.
